As the industry continue to explore new business models and delivery platforms, it is more important than ever to keep pace with technology. Of course, budgets cannot be ignored – broadcasters and post production houses need performance, reliability and value – but many more companies are finding the monitoring solutions they need with JVC. Consistent design, exceptional images and high build quality are just some of the reasons why JVC monitors have remained industry leading; now with new monitors available, JVC continues to deliver affordable technological innovations for professional video. Reliable operation JVC monitors are renowned for great reliability and performance, with many companies now standardising on the brand for its production requirements. 24-hour London-based international news network, CNN, has around thirty DT-V series monitors in use in its non-linear edit suites, while additional large format GM-F520S monitors are used as multiviewer screens in its machine control room. Turner Broadcasting also uses DT-V monitors for its editing suites in London, ensuring uniform image quality and colour reproduction throughout its whole facility. London-based post production specialists, ENVY, has around forty JVC DT-V Series monitors in its offline editing suites. “They have a great feature set, a comprehensive set of inputs and, for the price, there is little competition,” comments Daniel Sassen, ENVY’s Head of Technical Operations. Meanwhile, leading outside broadcast provider, NEP Visions, uses DT-V production monitors in its vehicles and flyaway kits. Director of Engineering and Technology, Rob Newton, says, “When our OB vehicles are on location, we need the reassurance of using well-built, reliable monitors, with professional functionality – our JVC DT-V monitors offer exceptional value and performance.” Hire challenges The 24" DT-V model is particularly suitable as a production monitor, with its IPS panel, high viewing angle, 3G and dual link, waveform monitor and vectorscope, and has already proved very popular for use in rental markets. David Johnson from The Hiring Post explains, “We have purchased many JVC professional 20" and “The JVC monitors have proved extremely reliable in all challenging conditions; the editors have only ever complimented their quality, reliability and ease of use.” David Johnson Owner, The Hiring Post Key monitor technology Full HD panel resolution LED backlight technology Whatever environment you work in, it is always important to monitor at the highest quality and resolution possible. A key trend in JVC’s monitor line-up is the move to full HD 1920x1080 resolution panels across the range. Display technology continues to evolve and JVC has now introduced LED backlight technology on a number of its monitors. Previously only seen in the 24" models, full HD panel resolution now appears on many of JVC’s latest products; from the 21" DT-V21G11, driven by LED backlights, to the new affordable DT-E series 17" and 21" models. This now means that high definition images can be viewed natively, without any scaling artefacts. This offers a number of benefits over CCFL-driven LCDs, including reduced energy consumption, better contrast and brightness, less heat radiation, and they are also free of the environmental pollutant mercury. This technology also helps achieve a high-speed response, with low latency of less than one frame. RGB LED technology A new 17" full HD RGB 10-bit panel will be launched this autumn to add to the professional DT-V Series. With RGB LEDs aligned over the panel, each different coloured light helps provide a higher colour gamut overall, with exceptionally accurate colours. This is often particularly noticeable on skin tones, where this technology provides very realistic colour reproduction. 24" video monitors for our hire fleet over the years; they have the features we are looking for and offer excellent quality at the right price point. The monitors have proved extremely reliable in all challenging conditions; we have also sent them on post production editing systems that have been shipped abroad. They were recently used for the BBC programme Planet Earth Live in Kenya and Bristol, and previously on the Springwatch and Autumnwatch series. The editors that hire the monitors have only ever complimented their quality, reliability and ease of use.” Environmentally friendly JVC recently launched the cost-effective E Series professional LCD monitors, its first with mercury-free LED backlighting, consuming less power than LCDs that use conventional CCFL-driven lighting. LED technology is also used in the latest edition to our high-end DT-V Series, the DT-V21G11, which benefits from a full HD 1920x1080 nonglare IPS panel, with high contrast ratio and viewing angle. Professional features Indispensable monitors for any professional post and broadcast application, the DT-V series offers 3G-SDI and dual link HD-SDI connections, plus handy features including vectorscope, waveform monitor and audio level meter. IPS (in-plane-switching) LCD panels with wide viewing angles and low chromatic variation ensure minimal colour change from different viewing positions. There are pre-set gamma modes to suit particular applications, and the monitors can be calibrated in order to adjust colour temperature, gamma curves and luminance levels, making them the ideal monitor for critical viewing. When used with a compatible colour calibration probe, such as the Minolta CA210, X-Rite EyeOne Display 2, EyeOne Display 3 PRO or JETI specbos, the software re-calibrates monitors to a single reference. Monitor calibration data can be saved and re-applied to groups of monitors to achieve uniform colour reproduction throughout an entire facility.
