2 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
2.2
Protective measures and disposal
RAUVISIO mineral is a cured acrylic resin composite and
has no environmental impact.
-Disposal code in accordance with the waste catalogue ordinance:
-170203/Construction and demolition waste consisting of wood,
glass, plastic
-120105/Waste from mechanical shaping processes and from the
physical and mechanical surface treatment of metals and plastics
(plastic shavings and lathe shavings)
-The swarf is non-toxic. Concentrations of dust should be minimised
through suitable safety measures such as extraction or dust masks.
-Dust from RAUVISIO mineral does not pose any particular risk of
explosion.
2.3
RAUVISIO mineral is a homogeneous, non-porous, mineral-filled
acrylic panel made of aluminium trihydroxide (ATH) and polymethylmethacrylate (solid surface material/SSM). This material, which is
durable and easy to clean, has a high-quality appearance and is
pleasant and warm to the touch.
RAUVISIO mineral makes possible a huge range of creative ideas for
functional and decorative applications in interior design, kitchens,
plumbing, clinical environments, doctor’s surgeries and furnishing.
RAUVISIO mineral is also available in a 3 mm thickness for vertical
surfaces.
2.1
Due to its composition of ATH and polymethylmethacrylate, RAUVISIO
mineral demonstrates favourable fire behaviour and is classified as
normally inflammable under DIN 4102-B2. In case of fire, no toxic
substances such as heavy metals or halogens are released. The same
firefighting techniques that are used for wood-containing materials
can be used.
The guidelines and recommendations presented here do not absolve
the processor of the responsibility to observe all valid safety and
environmental regulations, and the regulations of the factory inspectorate and trade association, as these are always paramount.
The safety regulations of the adhesives used must be taken note of
and strictly observed.

Fire behaviour
Auxiliary materials such as alcohol-based cleaning products and other
easily flammable materials should only be stored in safe and well-ventilated places.
Safety gear such as gloves, goggles, ear protectors and dust masks
must always be used.
3 TRANSPORT, PACKAGING AND STORAGE
3.2
Check the exterior packaging for damage immediately
when the goods arrive:
-If damage has occurred, open the packaging in the presence
of the haulier and record the damage to the goods.
-This must be confirmed by the haulier with their name,
company, date and signature.
-The damage must be reported to the haulier within 24 hours.
If you do not do this, the haulier's transport insurance is not
liable!
3.1
When handling RAUVISIO mineral panels that have already been
processed, it is imperative that the edges and surfaces are protected.
For the protection of surfaces, corrugated board or bubble wrap are
suggested. For the edges and borders, foam blocks, foam angle
profiles or robust cardboard angle profiles should be used.
Work surface panels with cut-outs should only be transported upright.
Any weak points such as cut-outs, notches or cut-outs with inserted
moulded parts should be protected by whole pieces of 19 mm thick
chip board.
Transport
-The general transport and loading provisions must be observed
across the board.
-Upon delivery, always unload pallets with a fork lift truck or similar
appliance.
-If such appliances are not available, unload the pallets manually,
upright, one by one and with two people. The use of transport aids
such as suction lifters, lever holds and board transporters is
recommended for handling.
-Because of the danger of breakage, do not transport individual
panels horizontally. Rather, set them upright from the stack and
transport them vertically. Otherwise, push them across a pallet of the
same height (Fig. 3-1).
-In cold conditions, panels in particular are significantly more brittle
and prone to breakage, as are semi-finished and finished products.
Care must therefore be taken during transport.
-We advise against manually transporting individual 3 mm thick
panels out of unheated storage in such temperature conditions.

Packaging
For safety, "Fragile, handle with care" should be marked on all
packaging with stickers in the warning colour red.
3.3
Storage
RAUVISIO mineral panels should be stored lying on a flat, even surface
with support from below to avoid bending or twisting.
RAUVISIO mineral moulded parts should not be stacked higher than
six units, even in their packaging.

4.3
Balancing sheet material for the substrate
As balancing sheet for the substrate, you should use a phenol sheet or
high-pressure laminate in 0.7-0.8 mm.

5 PRIOR TO PROCESSING
5.1
Check panels
5.3
Check the surface adhesive
Please check the panels for the following issues before carrying on
with the processing:
-External damage, such as cracking or notches
-Surface damage
-Warpage
-Colour uniformity within the production batch
The consistency must be equally viscous throughout. If this is not the
case, give the surface adhesive a good stir.

When bringing together panels with the same design, only panels with
the same batch number should be used.
The adhesive must harden in the allotted time evenly at room
temperature. If this is not the case, the adhesive should no longer be
used.
A technical data sheet and safety data sheets regarding adhesives/
curing agents can be downloaded from www.rehau.com/rauvisio.
When processing panels with different batch numbers, it is imperative
that the colour compatibility is checked before processing begins.
This should be done in daylight, not in bright sunlight. The best
judgement can be made in daylight without rays of sunlight, with a
viewing distance of 60 cm and after polishing with a damp cloth (this
comes very close to the visual end result).
5.2
Check sinks and basins
Please check the sinks and basins for the following issues before
carrying on with the processing:
-Flatness of the edging
-Edge milling
-Damages caused by improper transport or unprofessional handling

Check two-component acrylic adhesive
Conditioning
RAUVISIO mineral panels and all other materials that are to be
processed should be conditioned before use for at least 24 hours at
room temperature (min. 18 °C). Processing should also be carried out
at room temperature.
5.6
Documents for the material warranty
The delivery notes for panels, sinks and basins have to be kept for the
material warranty, as well as the labels for the batch numbers used.
Furthermore, the batch numbers must be noted on the delivery note.

6 PROCESSING RAUVISIO MINERAL
6.1
Mechanical processing of RAUVISIO mineral
6.1.1
Saws/routers
Do not use jigsaws.
Approved sharp tools which are HM-equipped and offer sufficient
performance:
-Surface grinders 1,600-2,200 W, RPM 8,000-24,000 U/min.
-Spindle moulders 3,000-5,000 W
-Panel saws with RPM 4,000-4,500 U/min.
-Saw blades with flat trapezoidal teeth (positive/negative) (e.g. d =
300 mm, z = 96).
Notching effect
The molecular structure of RAUVISO mineral requires that all cut and
milled edges be given a radius of at least 1.5 mm. Internal corners
must be rounded with a radius of at least R6, while internal corners
must be rounded with a radius of at least R10 under temperature
stress conditions.
6.1.2
Drilling
Do not use augers or gimlets.
-Ø 10 mm HM drill with inverted V-point 60°
-Ø >10 mm HM drill with cylinder head with two strobes
6.2
Adhesives
6.2.1
RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive for 3 mm panels
The special RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive is used to glue the
entire surface of RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm to wooden substrates.
A veneer press is necessary for compression.
Only 3 mm thick RAUVISIO mineral is glued across the
entire surface.

Store the adhesive for 24 hours at room temperature
(at least 18°C) before use.
-If the temperature on delivery was lower than 5°C, store the
adhesive for at least 48 hours at room temperature (at least
18°C) before use.
-Stir well before use!
-Can be used 12 months after date of bottling, if it has been
stored at up to 18°C.

6.2.2
RAUVISIO mineral two-component acrylic adhesive
For the adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral edges, RAUVISIO mineral panel
edges or RAUVISIO mineral panel edge joints, apply the RAUVISIO
mineral two-component acrylic adhesive in the appropriate panel
design.
For the adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral wash basins and panels, apply
the RAUVISIO mineral two-component acrylic adhesive in the
appropriate basin design.
-Check the adhesive before use.
- Only use the adhesive if it hardens evenly within 48 hours!
-Can be used until the date on the label, as long as it has been
stored at a constant temperature of 5-18°C without exposure
to direct sunlight. After this date, test the adhesive before use
to check if it still dries properly.
-A higher storage temperature significantly reduces the
workability (e.g. six months at 25°C).

Material requirements two-component acrylic adhesive
One 250ml cartridge will suffice for approx.:
  7 linear metres edgeband 40 mm
  10 linear metres edgeband 30 mm
  25 linear metres edgeband 10 mm
6.3
Adhering/affixing surfaces
6.3.1
Complete surface adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm
Apply the surface adhesive evenly to the entire surface of the
substrate using a glue applicator roller or machine. The RAUVISIO
mineral surface adhesive can also be used for the balancing sheet.
For small areas, a glue roller or fine serrated scraper can be used.
RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive is not suitable for
the surface adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm to
substrates other than wooden materials (e.g. Rigips, Fermacell,
Styrodur or PU panels).
The 1-component Sikabond Parquet PU adhesive is used for
those cases, as well as for gluing wood based materials if no
press is available.
Ensure even application of the adhesive and press down well
with the hard rubber roller.

6.3.2
Complete surface adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral >3 mm
RAUVISIO mineral panels in thicknesses >3 mm must not be glued
across the whole surface to the base material.
With silicone, Sikaflex 221, Sikabond Parquet or MS Polymer these
mineral panels are fixed using dots or a line of adhesive lengthwise
and diagonally to be permanently elastic every 600 x 600 mm.
-RAUVISIO mineral 6 mm on a continuous substrate P3 (moisture
resistant) min. 25 mm.
-RAUVISIO mineral 10 mm on a frame construction 600 x 600 mm
made from plywood strips 25 x 100 mm glued and dowelled to be
watertight, aluminium or metal frames 600 x 600 mm made from a
profile cross-section min. 20 x 20 mm or on a continuous substrate
P3 min. 25 mm (Fig. 6-1).
The double-sided adhesive tape 3M 9088 can also be used for
aluminium or metal frames.

The adhesive joint should be 1-2 mm following compression. The
underside and all edges of wooden substrates are to be protected
against moisture and steam.
6.4
Gluing edges and joints
RAUVISIO mineral two-component acrylic adhesive bonds RAUVISIO
mineral to RAUVISIO mineral, RAUVISIO mineral to wooden substrates,
and wooden substrates to wooden substrates.
The wooden substrate should be low-formaldehyde (e.g. E1 chip
board). The two-component acrylic adhesive does not fully harden on
substrates with a high formaldehyde content.
After use, the adhesive cartridge can be re-sealed with the original
seal and kept for further use.
Various edge designs can be produced using RAUVISIO mineral
two-component acrylic adhesive.
RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm flush fitted edge strips or concealed
edgebands produce a watertight and almost invisible joint. Before the
edges are glued, clean all surfaces to be glued with acetone or
methylated spirit and a clean white cloth. Do not touch the surfaces
after this with your fingers.

In order to achieve a near seamless joint, the sawn edges must be
remilled at the adhesive surfaces of the joints.
This applies for all designs. Where dirt and nicks on the edges are
caused by the saw, the joints become clearly visible. Apply the
two-component acrylic adhesive to the edgebands with an edge
surface that is free from damage (Fig. 6-2). Permitted joint gap
0.1-0.2 mm.

After the acrylic adhesive has hardened (approx. 45 min. at room
temperature, test with your finger nail), trim the edge flush and apply
the radius. Use microfinish sandpaper for SSM and a random orbit
sander to produce the desired finish manually.
With material thicknesses of 3 mm for the surface and edge, a radius
of up to R3 is possible. To produce an edge radius of R 6/R12 on
surfaces with RAUVISIO 3 mm, an edgeband of the corresponding
panel thickness 6 mm (for R6)/10 mm (for R10) can be used. A
edgeband 45 x 10 mm is also available ex stock. Processing
flush-fitted with the radius matching the edge thickness, as the 3 mm
material and other panel thicknesses are different production batches
(Fig. 6-5).

During the fixing process, use a hardwood strip and edge clamps
spaced at 20-25 cm, tightened only by hand. A sufficient level of
adhesive and pressure can be recognised by the adhesive seeping
evenly and without interruption from the outside edges of the joint.
For matt surfaces in RAUVISIO 3 mm, processing with flush fitted
edgebands is sufficient (Fig. 6-3).

6.4.1
Adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral edgebands >3 mm
When gluing edges made from material >3 mm to panels in the
corresponding thickness, the edge is placed under the surface of the
panel (Fig. 6-6).
Concealed edgebands are recommended for semi-matt or high gloss
finishes or RAUVISIO > 3 mm, as adhesive joints can show slightly
more with higher gloss levels, (Fig. 6-3).

substrate to a depth of approx. 5 mm (Fig. 6-4).

Prior to gluing, re-mill the sawn edge of the edgeband. Clean the
adhesion surfaces on the panel and the edge with acetone or
methylated spirit and do not touch them after this.
Reinforce the glue area on the back of the edge with an additional,
continuous line of adhesive using RAUVISIO mineral
2-component acrylic adhesive (Fig. 6-6 and Fig. 6-7).
An expansion joint of 6 mm must be left between the substrate and
the edgeband.
After fixing the panel to the substrate, the expansion joint is sealed
with MS-Polymer (Fig. 6-6 and Fig. 6-7).
After the acrylic adhesive has hardened, trim the edgeband flush and
apply the desired radius. Use microfinish sandpaper for SSM and a
random orbit sander to produce the desired finish.

Trim the joint faces of the panels at right angles. In the area of the
joint, cut a 13 x 3 mm groove into both panels directly under the
RAUVISIO mineral material.
For Visione and solid designs, cut a groove 6 mm below the top edge
so that the RAUVISIO tongue does not show up on the substrate.
Secure the grooves during transport with MDF tongues.
The second groove of the same dimension is cut approx. 6 mm from
the bottom edge of the substrate (Fig. 6-8 and Fig. 6-9).
A connection with only a joint in RAUVISIO 3 mm, as depicted in
Fig. 6-10, would cause the glue joint in the 3 mm panel joint to break
during transport and handling, as the adhesive surface is too small.
Alternatively to the tongue/groove process, a RAUVISIO solid concealed edgeband (min. 6 mm thick) can be glued under the surface of
RAUVISIO 3 mm and milled flush. Sand both surfaces with P80, clean
and apply RAUVISIO mineral acrylic adhesive in the surface design
across the whole adhesion surface.
Extending panels beyond the format 3680 is carried out during
installation on-site as illustrated in Fig. Fig. 6-15 or Fig. 6-16. This is
achieved with two 25 x 3.5 mm tongue and groove joints in RAUVISIO
across the entire length of the joint.

adhesive tape along the butt joint. Then press the composite in the

The guide fence for all groove milling is generally the top surface of
the RAUVISIO mineral panel.
Remove dust from grooves, sand the RAUVISIO mineral tongues on the
top with grade P80, clean the RAUVISIO mineral tongues and area to
be glued with methylated spirit or acetone and then do not touch the
surfaces after this. Glue in the tongues with two-component acrylic
adhesive in the panel design. Only clamp the butt joint manually until
the acrylic adhesive seeps out of the joint equally.
Butt areas in the balancing sheet are to be sealed against moisture
and steam (e.g. PU adhesive).
Before finishing, sand the adhesive joint flat with a belt sander all
along the adhesive joint (P150). The manual finishing with a random
orbit sander is always carried out diagonally to the adhesive joint.
Corner or butt joints of panels made from RAUVISIO
mineral >3 mm
In the case of corner or butt joints, the panel edges to be joined are
trimmed at right angles positively/negatively with a profile cutter. The
cutter is positioned on the top side of the panel. The adhesive joint is
increased in size through the profiling.
In the case of elements not exposed to temperature loads,
stick 50 mm strips of RAUVISIO mineral across the bottom of the
whole length (Fig. 6-11).
The strips can then be fixed at the ends with hot-melt adhesive.

In the case of elements exposed to temperature loads, glue one 10 x
100 mm strip of RAUVISIO mineral across the bottom of the whole
length, the strip being chamfered at 45° on both sides (Fig. 6-12).
The strips can then be fixed at the ends with hot-melt adhesive.

In the area of the RAUVISIO mineral 780 mm butt joint, mill a groove
of 25 x 3.5 mm into the substrate. Using a two-component acrylic
adhesive, insert a 24 x 3 mm RAUVISIO mineral tongue into the groove
and sand the visible surface with grade P80 sandpaper after cleaning.
Trim the abutting faces of the RAUVISIO mineral panel at right angles
and clean them. Coat the substrate with RAUVISIO mineral surface
adhesive and the top of the inserted tongue with two-component
acrylic adhesive in the RAUVISIO mineral panel design. Before laying
and affixing another RAUVISIO mineral panel, apply a continuous line
of two-component acrylic adhesive to the edge of the first panel. Apply
the RAUVISIO surface adhesive with a glue roller. Using a serrated
scraper results in too much glue being deposited, which may cause
the adhesive surface to float when compressed and the RAUVISIO
panels to drift away from each other at the butt joint. Compress the
butt joint together by hand using screw clamps or vacuum board
clamps until the acrylic adhesive seeps out continuously along the top
side of the panel. First of all, apply 50 mm wide strips of Tesa 4024
adhesive tape (clear or brown, identical to the acrylic-based adhesive)
diagonally to the butt joint at intervals of max. 30 cm and rub well.
Then, affix Tesaband 4024 along the entire length of the butt joint in

abutting areas flat with a belt sander (P150).
The manual finishing with a random orbit sander is always carried out
diagonally to the adhesive joint.
6.6
Element connections
6.7.1
Manual corner joint and butted surface element with
RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm
The edgebands of the elements to be connected should be milled
cleanly and at a right angle (Fig. 6-14).
Installation of worktops with RAUVISIO mineral
The worktop panels should be entirely supported by base units. This
applies especially for areas with cut-outs for basins, sinks and hobs.
Load areas with cut-outs with weights of up to 25 kg only. It is not
permitted for people to sit or stand on worktop panel areas with
cut-outs or overhangs.
The max. spacing of base units with worktop panels above should not
exceed 40 cm. A single-sided worktop overhang of up to 60 cm
should be supported on two support legs. The positioning of top units
on the worktop panel is not permitted in this area.
In the case of installation between two walls, an expansion joint of 1
mm per linear metre is to be taken into account. (e.g. room dimension
6 m/6 mm expansion joint). An expansion joint of min. 3 mm must be
observed on the back wall (Fig. 6-13).
6.6.1

Installation of worktop panels with RAUVISIO mineral in
window recesses

Milled grooves, RAUVISIO tongues and gluing see section 6.5.1.
Lay the panels flat and push them together. Join the two elements by
attaching offset softwood blocks (do not use hardwood) with super
glue and clamp together using screw clamps. Do not apply the
adhesive above the groove; otherwise there is a risk of breakage when
the softwood blocks are subsequently removed. Alternatively, vacuum
board clamps can be used. Only tighten the clamps/board clamps
until the adhesive seeps out evenly along the top side of the panel.
After approx. 45 min. the fixing strips can be knocked off, the board
clamps removed and the joint finished to the same standard as the
panel elements (Fig. 6-15). Sand the adhesive joints flat with a belt
sander (P150) prior to finishing with the random orbit sander. The
manual finishing with a random orbit sander is always carried out
diagonally to the adhesive joint.

A machined corner connection can also be produced by milling and
fitting worktop clamps. In order to avoid stress cracking and to achieve
a joint that is also almost invisible, use RAUVISIO mineral two-component acrylic adhesive and the two inserted RAUVISIO mineral tongues
just as in connection design A. Only tighten the worktop clamps until
the adhesive seeps out evenly along the top side of the panel (Fig.
6-16 and Fig. 6-17). Sand the adhesive joints flat with a belt sander
(P150) prior to finishing with the random orbit sander. The manual
finishing with a random orbit sander is always carried out diagonally to
the adhesive joint.

Positioning of joints and cut-outs
No joints are permitted in the cut-out areas for sinks, washbasins and
hobs.
Likewise, no joints are permitted over any appliances that emit heat,
cold or steam (e.g. dishwasher, washing machine, oven, freezer).
Joints adjacent to cut-outs or appliances that emit heat, cold or steam
should be a minimum of 100 mm away.
The minimum distance for hob cut-outs from corner joints and from
the short edges of the worktop is 100 mm, the minimum distance
between 2 hob cut-outs next to each other is 200 mm. The minimum
distance for sink cut-outs from corner joints and from the short edge
of panels is 50 mm, the minimum distance between 2 cut-outs next to
each other (e.g. for washbasins and sinks) is 100 mm.
No diagonal joints are permitted for the design of corner connections
(Fig. 6-19).

If the minimum gap of 7 mm between the hob unit and worktop cut-out
cannot be met all the way around, a stainless steel frame which
supports the hob unit is to be produced. A gap of min. 7 mm between
the stainless steel frame and RAUVISIO mineral must be maintained all
the way round. Heat protection tape No. 1245099 is to be applied all
the way around the edge of the RAUVISIO mineral cut-out.
If the frame is screwed into the substructure, the heat protection tape

must be applied over the screws. Clip joint screws on the cut-out
edges should also be covered with heat protection tape.
With RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm a radius of R3 is milled all the way
around the top of the cut-out edges.
With RAUVISIO mineral > 3 mm a radius of R3 is milled all the way
around on the cut-out edges at the top and bottom.
Before installing the hob, seal the edges of the cut-out in the chip
board against moisture. A PU adhesive is suitable for this (RAUVISIO
mineral heat protection tape will not stick to silicone). The surface of
the mineral panel is then sanded to the specified finish.
The matt finish is recommended for work surfaces, the supermatt
finish for dark designs. Heat protection tape Mat. No. 1245099, made
from the foam and aluminium tape, is applied continuously all around
the edges of the cut-out up to the top edge of the RAUVISIO mineral
material (end of the radius R3). The heat protection tape is 50 mm
wide and the overhang over the worktop should hang down freely (Fig.
6-21 and Fig. 6-22).
The rim of the hob should not lie directly on the RAUVISIO mineral
surface. Always attach the foam tapeprovided by the hob supplier
under the rim before installing the hob unit (Fig. 6-21 and Fig. 6-22).
Frameless hob units must not be installed in surfaces made from
RAUVISIO mineral as these do not create any boundary to the
RAUVISIO mineral cut-out and cause damage by overheating (Fig.
6-23).
This information only applies to hob units, hot plates or
similar in the home, not in a commercial setting.
Industrial kitchens and catering
For hob units, fryers, hot plates or similar. A stainless steel frame is
generally fitted additionally for hobs, fryers, hot plates or similar
appliances that radiate heat in excess of 80°C in the installation area
of the worktop or counter. The total distance between the internal unit
housing and the edge of the cut-out in the worktop or counter should
be no less than 20 mm.
RAUVISIO mineral heat protection tape Mat. No. 1245099 is applied in
three places:
1. Layer below the stainless steel frame
2. Layer on the edges of the worktop cut-out, as previously
described
3. Layer on the edges of the stainless steel frame. The heat
protection tape also needs to cover the screws which fix the
stainless steel frame to the cut-out (Fig. 6-24)

cause stress cracking due to heat on the RAUVISIO

Causes of stress cracking:
-The hob area was cut using a jigsaw.
-The corner radii of the cut-out are smaller than 10 mm.
-The distance all the way around the hob housing to the worktop
panel cut-out is less than 7 mm.
-The radius R3 has not been milled onto the edge of the worktop
cut-out.
-The heat protection tape Mat. No. 1245099 has only been partially
applied or has been omitted entirely.
-The heat protection tape Mat. No. 1245099 was damaged during
installation of the hob, e.g. on the corner radius or by the screw/clip
-A hot pot was placed without a mat/trivet fully or partially on the
RAUVISIO mineral worktop.

6.9.1

The standard solution for a connection to the wall is achieved using
the 45 x 10 mm RAUVISIO mineral edgeband, which is available ex
stock. The strip is profiled on the top and has rebates of approx. 2 x 2
mm on the top and bottom. Sealing to the wall and to the worktop is
achieved with sanitary silicone colour-matched to the RAUVISIO
mineral design. Spray the excess silicone with releasing agent and use
a plastic scraper to finish it cleanly and flush with the rebate edges
(Fig. 6-25).

When using as a wall element, glue the RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm and

wall using PU construction adhesive or silicone. The transition from
the worktop may be done as a fillet. To do this, insert a 10 mm strip of
RAUVISIO mineral and trim with a fillet router R6.

Remove the dust from the cut surfaces of the substrate and clean the
adhesion surfaces of the basin and the RAUVISIO surface in the
adhesive joint with methylated spirit (ethanol) or acetone. Do not touch
the adhesion surfaces after cleaning (prevents accidental adhesion).
Apply two-component acrylic in the same colour as the basin in the
adhesive joint, insert the basin and fix with clamping screws. Apply
pressure until the acrylic adhesive seeps out evenly along the edge of
the basin.
After the adhesive has hardened (approx. 45 min.), the desired
semi-gloss surface finish is produced. The inner contour of the basin
may have a radius applied. Use a milling tool fitted with a plastic guide
sleeve to avoid scratches on the basin surface with the semigloss
surface finish.
Seal the cut-out edge of the substrate against moisture using PU,
acrylic or silicone sealant.

When using a surface grinder
Templates A + F are fixed to the underside of the substrate. Using
template A, cut the contour for the basin cut-out in the RAUVISIO
mineral, approx. 3 mm smaller than the basin inner edge all the way
around. Mark the position of template A and place template F in the
same position. Then, cut the rebate for the basin slot into the reverse
of the RAUVISIO mineral panel in the substrate until it is free of chips
(Fig. 6-32).
Undermounted AQUAFONTE washbasins
These basins are produced in all panel designs using the gravure
method from 10 mm RAUVISIO mineral panels. The AQUAFONTE
basins must be undermounted (Fig. 6-31).

Clean all adhesion surfaces (cut-out and basin edge) with acetone or
ethanol (methylated spirit) and do not touch them after this. Glue the
basin under the RAUVISIO mineral surface using two-component
acrylic adhesive, fill the rebate with RAUVISIO mineral two-component
acrylic adhesive to a height of at least 10 mm all the way around, so
that stress caused by temperature differences in the basin caused by
warm and cold water is discharged into the substrate.
Affix clamping screws to the basin or apply gentle pressure to the
adhesion surface for approx. 45 min.
After the adhesive has hardened, trim the panel flush to the contour of
the basin, then apply a radius R3 to RAUVISIO 3 mm or chamfer 45°
directly to the edge of the basin/adhesive joint. In the case of other
RAUVISIO panel thicknesses, select exactly the radius for the panel
thickness.
This visually eliminates any colour differences which are present in the
natural mineral or arise as a result of the moulding process. For both
of these cutting operations, use only milling tools with plastic guide
sleeves in order to prevent scratching of basins with a semi-gloss
surface finish. Seal the cut edges of the substrate against moisture
using PU adhesive, silicone, acrylic or similar. Alternatively, fill the
cut-out with PU foam.
Holes for fittings in the substrate are to be sealed as described under
Section 6.12.
Due to the light reflection from two sides, the corner
radii of square corner basins in solid designs appear
lighter than the adjacent surfaces.
This optical effect occurs regardless of material and colour tone
(e.g. also with stainless steel, quartz).
6.12
Sealing holes for fittings in wooden substrates
Holes in wooden substrates should be sealed against moisture before
fittings are installed to avoid swelling of the substrate due to moisture.
A two-component epoxy cast resin is best suited for this, carried out
as per Fig. 6-34. Alternatively, a solid block of glued RAUVISIO mineral
(with minimum dimensions 55 x 55 for standard fittings) in the
thickness of the substrate may be inserted using two-component
acrylic adhesive (Fig. 6-34).

6.12.1 Undermounting of AQUASINO sinks

Undermounting in RAUVISIO 3 mm
The push-on sleeve 54 is a special product for the surface grinder and
can be ordered from REHAU using Mat. No. 1282839. The position of
the sink is determined by the dimensions of the base units and
marked on the underside of the worktop. Fix the milling template to
the bottom of the worktop in the corresponding position.
Cut the contour using the guide sleeve and push-on sleeve. Turn the
panel over (the template remains fixed to the bottom) and mill the
radius on the top edge of the cut-out. After this, remove the protective
foil from the surface.
Sand the milled edges and the surface to the desired finish. The matt
finish is recommended for worktops. AQUASINO sinks are also
supplied with the ‘matt’ finish. Turn the panel back over. With the
guide sleeve fitted without the push-on sleeve, use the same template
to cleanly cut a 12 mm rebate the full depth of the substrate up to the
back of the RAUVISIO mineral panel. The adhesive surface should be
free of swarf and adhesive residue (Fig. 6-35).

Apply the flexible adhesive Sikaflex-221 from Sika (as supplied), insert
the sink, and centre it with veneer strips. Tighten the rail clamps only
until the adhesive forms a small bead all around the top of the visible
side. Use the adhesive to seal the joint between the sink edge and
substrate as well as the rail clamp grooves.
Use only Sikaflex-221 adhesive, as only with this adhesive can the
seal of the joint be permanently guaranteed when the sink is subjected
to temperature load.
Seal any open areas on the top of the adhesive edge with the Sikaflex
adhesive.
Spray the visible joint with a releasing agent and remove excess
adhesive with a plastic scraper. Remove any surplus adhesive on the
surface with releasing agent. Finally, clean the surface of the sink with
methylated spirit if required.
Seal the cut edges of the substrate against moisture using PU
adhesive, silicone or acrylic.
Silicone or acrylic sealing compounds are not suitable
for use on RAUVISIO mineral sinks!
Attention! Due to the risk of cracks in the adhesive joint and
damage to the substrate due to moisture, we strongly advise
against the flush installation of the sinks.
Fixing the sink in the rebate below the worktop prevents water
running onto the worktop.

With a 3 mm groove cutter, mill three grooves into each of the
lengthwise sides and one groove into each of the crosswise sides for
the rail clamps. Check the fit of the sink in the cut-out by placing it in.
Sand the adhesion surface of the sink all around at a width of 8 mm
with grade P80 sandpaper. Clean the adhesion surfaces of the sink
and RAUVISIO mineral edge with acetone or methylated spirit and do
not touch them afterwards with your naked hands.
Allow the cleaned surfaces to air for min. 10 min.

6.12.2 Undermounting AQUASINO sinks
The individual AQUASINO sinks are installed below the RAUVISIO 3
mm or 10 mm panels (details see also Section 6.11) in a rebate (Fig.
6-37). In the case of installation below 10 mm RAUVISIO mineral,
grooves can be milled into the panel for the water drain/draining
boards.

7 THERMOFORMING RAUVISIO MINERAL
When thermoforming RAUVISIO mineral and other solid surface
materials, there are considerable differences in comparison to the
post-forming of HPL (high pressure laminate).

Thermoforming
The smallest bending radius is approx. R50 for 3 mm panels, approx.
R70 for 6 mm panels, and approx. R100 for 10 mm panels. This
statement is a non-binding reference value and must be trialled by the
processor with their heating elements, particularly for dark and coarse
designs.
Different designs require different heating times, so these specifications can serve only as reference values. Check the flexibility several
times during heating or test in advance on a spare piece of material.
One positive and one negative template is generally required for
shaping (original component and counterpart). Between the moulds, a
clearance gap should be maintained which corresponds to the
thickness of the RAUVISIO mineral material panel that is to be shaped
(Fig. 7-1 and Fig. 7-2).
Cooling period: The parts that are fixed in the moulds should not be
removed until the temperature has cooled down to at least 70 °C (this
can be tested manually with the hand). If the parts are removed from
the moulds at too high a temperature, there is a risk of the shaped
pieces returning to the original shape.
If the colour lightens after forming, this is an indication that the
warming time was too short or the radii too small. If the colour
changes after being heated, this is an indication that it took too long
to heat up or that the heating temperature is too high.
Neither of these faults can be corrected retrospectively.
The use of heater fans or partial heating is not permitted, as this can
create tensions in the RAUVISIO mineral material that can lead to
cracks (Fig. 7-3).

9 REPAIRING
Scratches or minor damages can be removed with follow-up sanding.
When it comes to more significant damage, RAUVISIO mineral
surfaces can be milled out and repaired with a piece of RAUVISIO
mineral (a leftover piece from the same panel batch) with barely visible
joints.
Between the milled out damaged section and the repair piece, there
should be a joint of max. 0.1 mm, and two-component acrylic
adhesive must be used to glue together the repair piece and the
damaged section all around.
Every processor should make their own stencil to conform precisely to
the given milling tools and their tolerance. The material for these
stencils should not be in any way absorbent of liquids (e.g. foamed
PVC or ABS panels). The thickness of the material of the stencils must
be higher than the router's thrust ring.
Round stencils ensure a repair that is not easily visible to the eye, as
long as the repair piece has a diameter of approx. 100 mm.
The repair can be carried out at the customer’s location on-site.
Mill out the damaged area using a negative template
(the milling tool’s guide sleeve is guided along the inner contour). Fix
the template over the damaged area using double-sided adhesive
tape (Fig. 9-1).

Mill a slightly deeper recess into the damaged area than the thickness
of the repair piece.
In order to avoid air bubbles in the repair and so that any surplus
adhesive can run off, drill at least one hole in the substrate (not right
through) at the damaged area. Clean all adhesion surfaces with
acetone or methylated spirit and do not touch them after this.
Apply RAUVISIO mineral two-component acrylic adhesive matching the
respective panel design all over in wavy lines and make one continuous line of adhesive around the edge of the milled out area. Fix two
softwood blocks to the repair piece with contact adhesive, both of
which should project 3-4 cm beyond the edge of the circular area.
This ensures a precise levelling of the height with the panel surface
(Fig. 9-3).

For repairs, a leftover piece of RAUVISIO mineral from the same panel
batch should be provided for every commission, as well as giving a
note of this to the customer.
Mill out the repair insert from the section of RAUVISIO mineral supplied
using the positive template (the router guide sleeve is run along the
template’s outer contour), (Fig. 9-2).

Insert the repair piece into the damaged area, turning and twisting it
until the adhesive seeps out of the joint throughout and the pattern fits
as closely as possible to the panel’s design, and apply weight to the
adhesion.

After the adhesive has hardened, carefully knock off the wooden
blocks. Sand away the remaining adhesive ridge and wood fibres until
smooth with a belt sander (P150). The finish of the repaired surface
must match the sanding of the previous finish on the panel so that no
subsequent sanding of the whole surface will be necessary.
Sanding the joint in the repair piece or refinishing the
surfaces with the 3M Finesse-it refinishing set No.
60475 is customer-friendly and does not produce any dust.

10 REMARKS
When using and processing the Visione design and the metallic
designs Oro, Antracite and Grigio metallic designs
10.3
10.1
These designs are characterised by the special dispersion of metallic
particles throughout the material.
Due to the flat orientation of the flake-shaped metallic particles, they
stand out more when the panel is viewed face on. The panel appears
to be a single base colour, with the particles far less apparent, when
the material is viewed side on.
The illusion of a single solid body colour is created for all material
thicknesses with a 45° joint between the surface and the edgeband
(Fig. 10-1).
10.2
Processing Visione designs in 3 mm thickness
In order to show off the particular visual effect of these decorative
designs, the surfaces and edges of the substrates need to be coated
with a white base colour:
-For wooden substrates and substrates made from other materials,
Sikaflex 11FC white adhesive is applied to the whole surface. The
substrates are coated with a white priming film prior to this in order
to achieve an even surface colour. The reverse of the RAUVISIO
mineral panels must be pre-treated with Sika adhesion cleaner 1,
and allowed to air prior to adhesion for 10 min.
-This treatment with Sika adhesion cleaner 1 and Sikaflex 11FC white
is used for Visione panels and Visione panels printed on the reverse
-Pre-coat all visible edges of the wooden or PU material substrates
with a thin, white melamine edge (do not use polymer edges)
-With PU substrates, use a PU hotmelt to bond the melamine edge
-Apply the melamine edge and trim flush
-Pre-sand the melamine edges with grade P80 sandpaper and clean
them with methylated spirit or acetone. Do not touch adhesion
surfaces after cleaning
-Glue Visione surface
-Glue the Visione edgeband to the white melamine edge under the
Visione surface with transparent two-component acrylic adhesive
(concealed edgeband)
The acrylic adhesive does not stick to polymer edges!
The butt joints, edge joints and joints of the repair inserts used are
somewhat visible in RAUVISIO Visione.
If 3 mm panels are not processed on a 45° mitre, the edgeband
should always be placed under the 3 mm surface!

The scratch resistance of these designs is lower than the others in the
RAUVISIO mineral collection.
We recommend this design range for decorative applications and not
for worktops.

If 3 mm panels are not processed on a 45° mitre, the edgeband
should always be placed under the 3 mm surface!
The visual appearance of the surface can change as a result of the
alignment of the metallic particles, especially where 90°-180° rotated
panels are joined (corner and butt joints). To achieve the best overall
impression in terms of colour, lay the panels together prior to gluing.
(Wet the panels for a better evaluation.) Ideally, the end result will also
be shown to the end customer before the panels are joined together
permanently.
For designs with metallic particles, the best visual effect is achieved
with a manual semi-gloss or gloss finish. A semi-gloss or gloss finish
is recommended for decorative surfaces only; worktops should have a
matt/supermatt finish.
The depth effect and brilliance of these designs can be optimised for
worktops with the matt/supermatt finish by carrying out the last finishing
stage with a damp Scotch-Brite pad 7447 red or 7448 grey. As the
colour intensity and gloss level of the solid surface materials increase,
scratches become more apparent. Black and dark grey designs with a
high gloss finish are comparable with lacquered surfaces.
Unlike other materials, the surface of RAUVISIO mineral can be
refreshed through re-sanding. This product advantage is standard with
all designs, even if the finish has different gloss levels.

11 SANDING/FINISH
RAUVISIO mineral panels are delivered with a top surface pre-finish of
grade P600, object designs P280 and a reverse surface finish of
grade P80.
The finish for the visible surfaces is produced manually by the
processor using a random orbit sander, as this is the only way to
achieve a directionless sanding appearance. Sand with low surface
pressure in order to prevent overheating of the mineral panel.
11.1
Sanding equipment
-Random orbit sander, with RPM min. 2,000-6,000 U/min., hub 3,
hard sanding disk for surfaces, soft sanding disk for curves
-Swarf extraction (increases the service life of the sanding tools)
-Microfinish sandpaper for solid surface materials at the desired
sanding stages, for ‘supermatt’, ‘matt’, or ‘semi-gloss’ finishes
-Microfinish sandpaper, polishing fleece, polishing felt and polish for
‘high gloss’ finish
-Cleaning cloths for intermediate cleaning between the individual
sanding stages
-Abrasives that are used damp create a better sanding appearance
and a stronger depth effect with the RAUVISIO mineral designs

finish depend on the application purpose.

12 ASSEMBLY GUIDELINES RAUVISIO MINERAL
1. Transport raw panels and fabricated panel elements only on the
original delivery pallet lengthwise.
2. Never unload/load pallets with a forklift from the longitudinal side
of the pallet, but always from the transverse side.
3. Always store raw panels and fabricated panels on the original
pallet.
4. Do not store raw panels and fabricated panels in damp rooms or
directly on the ground.
5. Do not store raw panels and fabricated panels in the open air, nor
in areas with strong UV light sources.
6. Never carry raw panels and fabricated panels horizontally. Always
carry them upright.
7. Allow fabricated panels to acclimatise for at least 24 hours at
room temperature (min. 18 °C), and for at least 48 hours if the
temperature on delivery was below 0 °C. Every single element
should have total contact to the air in the room.
8. For indoor applications, not for outdoor applications.
9. Materials and components must be checked for damage or
defects prior to processing/installation.
10.Before installation, store elements in their original packaging,
frost-free in closed rooms.
11.Make sure supporting substructures (e.g. base cabinets) for
covering panels and worktop panels are flat and level, and screw
them together so that they cannot be moved.
12.Stress cracking will result if there is no direct and indirect
fastening to the wall or if there are dips in the floor.
13.To avoid stress cracking, ensure there is no stress during
processing and installation.
14.Do not bring the unprotected edges of connecting elements on
wooden substrate materials into contact with damp before
installation.
15.Seal the joins of connecting elements with wooden substrate
materials so that they are watertight and waterproof.
16.When it comes to wooden substrates, seal all cut-out edges and
raw panel edges during the installation so that they are watertight.
17.All drill holes in the wooden substrates must be sealed during
installation to make them watertight.
18.Do not work with tools on the object surfaces themselves.
19.When installing covering panels and worktop panels between two
walls, make an expansion joint of 3 mm on both sides and in
cases of a windowsill on three sides.
20.When working with multiple worktop panels, check that the
custom-fit is correct before installation.
21.Install a discharge plate over undermounted appliances that
produce warmth, cold or steam.
22.Screw the supporting structure by the narrow panel strip with
sinks, cooking areas and cut-outs so that it is sufficiently tight and
supportive, screw the full support to the worktop panel and screw
the base cabinets to the worktop panel.
23.Strong solvents, special cleaners (e.g. drain cleaners, industrial
cleaners) as well as stronger chemical substances may damage
the surface.
24.Grains of sand or similar can cause scratches during cleaning.
25.Do not stand on panels, whether they have been installed or not.
26.Do not stand in sinks or basins, whether they have been installed
or not.
27.Do not stand on cooking areas, whether they have been installed
or not.
28.Do not pour boiling water/fat/oil into sinks and basins.

13.1.4 Requirements for walls on the construction site
1. The walls to be covered must conform to the industry standard
and must be dry.
2. Damp walls require inspection and repair by a construction
specialist and, where specified, must be dried if necessary before
shower trays and shower walls can be fitted.
3. Remove loose paint, check the paint for compatibility with the
adhesive that is planned to be used for the shower walls and
pre-treat with leaching agent where necessary.
4. Remove loose tiles, pre-treat existing old tiles with leaching agent,
correct any unevenness.
5. All adhesive surfaces must be free from dust, dirt and grease.
13.1.5 Storage at the project prior to assembly
Before installation, store the shower tray and shower
wall at room temperature, min. 18°C, in the room it will
be installed for at least 48 h. After removing all of the external
packaging, store horizontally.
13.1.6 Assembly guidelines for shower trays and shower walls
13.1.6.1Shower tray
1. Installation at room temperature, min. 18°C.
2. A recess should be created in the existing or new screed for a flush-fitting (floor level) installation of the shower tray. Alternatively, the drain
should be located in the concrete surface to reduce the installation height, see illustration of the installation options Fig. 13-1 to Fig. 13-4.

3. The top edge of the floor, including floor covering, must match the
installation height of the top edge of the shower tray.
4. Position the shower tray at the intended installation location and
mark the position for the drain.
5. Position the drain, apply lubricant to the rubber seal in the flange
and connect the drain to the drainage pipe.
6. For vertical drainage through the ceiling, the ceiling break has to
be filled subsequently.
7. The top sealing surface of the drain housing must be positioned
horizontally.
The drainage pipe should have a gradient of min. 1%.
8. Fix the drain to the floor with adhesive or mortar.
Insulate the wall seal for the drainage pipe with a wall collar.
9. Check whether the drain is leak tight with 2l of water.
Cover the drain to protect it from dirt.
10.Position the 60 mm compensating plate made from XPS foam
above the drain and cut to the contour of the drain and the
drainage pipe with a blade/precision saw.
11.Use polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive to glue the compensating plate to the floor across the whole surface without gaps.
Where necessary, glue on the second 20 mm compensating
plate.
12.Check the horizontal positioning of the compensating plate(s) with
a spirit level.
13.Fill any remaining gaps in the area of the drain and drainage pipe
completely with screed.
14.Apply polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive evenly across the
compensating plate and adjoining wall and floor areas.
15.Position the shower tray with the seal at the drain connection and
press onto the adhesive bed across the whole surface.
Ensure that the seal is positioned precisely and that it fits
correctly!
16.Lay the protruding non-woven sealing fleece around the bottom of
the shower tray in the adhesive bed at the adjoining wall and floor
areas and press down without creasing.
17.Check with a spirit level that the shower tray has a gradient of 2%
and that the water can easily flow from the surface.
18.Connect the shower tray to the drain and screw in firmly.
Whilst the adhesive sets, distribute weight evenly across the
shower tray, e.g. using packets of tiles or similar.
19.Apply polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive to the adjoining walls
in the area of the shower and bed in the non-woven sealing fleece
without creases or bubbles. For RAUVISIO shower walls with a
non-woven material coating on the reverse, only one strip of
non-woven fleece is required for the corners of the shower walls
or the element joint. The non-woven sealing fleece must overlap
by at least 10 cm at the joints between the lengths/elements.
20.Apply polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive where the non-woven sealing fleece overlaps.

13.1.6.2 Polymer-modified waterproof thin bed mortar for the
bonding of shower trays and shower walls to mineral
fixed level surfaces indoors
- Contains cement, avoid contact with eyes and skin
- On contact with eyes, rinse well with water and
consult a doctor
-Use gloves
-Wash hands with soap after every use
-Store out of reach of children!
1. Processing
-Processing at 5-25°C.
-Surface must be dry and free from dust, dirt, releasing agent and
screed residue.
-Roughen the surface of the old tiles or pre-treat with leaching agent
according to the manufacturer's instructions. Check that the
adhesive is strong enough before gluing RAUVISIO elements.
-Prime extremely absorbent surfaces with a mixture 1:1 water and
adhesive.
-Mix the adhesive evenly with 30% water (1.4-1.6 litres of water for
5 kg of adhesive), after 3 min. stir well again.
-The mixture should be used within 30 min., do not use excess
mortar after this.
-Apply a contact layer to smooth surfaces with a smoothing trowel
where necessary.
Apply the adhesive to the contact layer with a serrated scraper while
it is still wet and fresh.
-Press down the RAUVISIO elements evenly and firmly.
-Using water, clean away dirt and clean tools before the mixture
dries.
-Keep freshly bonded elements away from drafts.
2. Processability
-Sealed containers can be kept for 12 months if stored in dry
conditions indoors; contents 5 kg.
13.1.6.3 Shower walls
1. Before fitting the shower walls protect the shower tray against
scratching/damage from dirt/tools by covering it with strong
cardboard.
2. Use leaching agent to pre-treat existing old tiles which are to be
covered.
3. All adhesive surfaces must be free from dust, dirt and grease.
4. Prior to bonding the shower walls, apply EPDM sealing tape along
the entire length in the corners vertically and along the entire
length horizontally at the joints with the shower tray.
5. Fit wall collars at the ducts for the water pipes.
13.1.6.4 Bonding the shower walls
1. Apply RAUVISIO 6 mm shower walls to existing tiles evenly across
the whole surface with permanently elastic PU adhesive, e.g.
Sikabond T54 Parquet or similar, even application with a 5 mm
serrated scraper, adhesion within the time specified by the
adhesive manufacturer. Press the elements across the whole
surface and evenly using a hard rubber roller.
2. Apply 23 mm shower walls (XPS foam + RAUVISIO 3mm) to
existing tiles across the whole surface with permanently elastic PU
adhesive, e.g. Sikabond T540 or similar or with a specially
approved special polymer modified flexible tile adhesive, application with a 5 mm serrated scraper.
3. Apply 23 mm shower walls to cement plaster or gypsum
plasterboard across the whole surface with a polymer-modified
flexible tile adhesive. Even application and bonding within the
specifications of the adhesive manufacturer, level out any
unevenness. Press completely and evenly and secure mechanically against slippage for min. 8 h. Bond wall corners and element
joints with strips of non-woven sealing fleece beforehand so that
they are watertight.
4. Seal all connecting and movement joints with fungicidal sanitary
silicone, e.g. Ottoseal S130 or similar.
5. Lay down the stainless steel cover in the frame of the shower
drain.
6. Cross-section of the shower walls see Fig. 13-6.

-Only put pressure on freshly bonded elements after 2 days, at
temperatures below 18°C after 3 days.
-Apply weight evenly to the shower tray immediately after bonding,
e.g. with packets of tiles.

13.1.6.5 Visible sides shower tray
For shower trays that are not installed at floor height the visible sides
can be covered with RAUVISIO mineral 10 mm.
A stainless steel angle bracket can be used as an alternative to covers
made from RAUVISIO mineral 10 mm and glued with an adhesive like
Ottocoll M500, Soudaseal 240FC or similar.
13.1.6.6 Important general information for constructing wet
rooms
1. Apply non-woven sealing fleeces to the corners with an overlap of
min. 10 cm. The use of a sealing tape with an elastic centre part
is recommended for heavy loads.
2. For break-free sealing of connecting or movement joints, the
depth and width of the joints are to be matched to one another.
3. A fungicidal sanitary silicone, e.g. Ottoseal S130 or similar
(ensure bonding on both sides) is recommended for sealing
connecting or movement joints. Where necessary, insert a rope
seal beforehand into the joint to be sealed.
4. Connecting or movement joints are maintenance joints that have
to checked regularly and replaced where necessary according to
the seal manufacturer's specifications, e.g. OTTO Chemie or
similar.
5. Open joints should be avoided in wet rooms to prevent dirt/
stagnant moisture/mould.
6. When designing floor-level showers, showers with floor drains or
showers without a bath, the entire floor of the room is to be sealed
against water ingress. The connection to the non-woven sealing
fleece around the shower tray must be carried out so that it is
watertight and system-compatible, see Fig. 13-7 and Fig. 13-8
on page 38side 38.

7. The base surfaces in the area of shower walls are also to be
sealed against water ingress. The connection to the non-woven
sealing skirt around the shower tray must be watertight and
system-compatible.
Current notes from the German Contractors Federation
(Zentralverbund Deutsches Baugewerbe / Fachverband
Fliesen und Naturstein) for the installation of bonded waterproofing with tiled finishes in indoor areas must be observed to
ensure that water cannot penetrate and cause construction
damage.

of TI M53620, using a random orbit sander and microfinish sandpaper
for solid surface materials in wet or dry sanding.

inwards with a full surface intermediate layer of paper or

packing tape along the entire length, e.g. 7 x 3 mm tongue for a

pre-treat with leaching agent where necessary.
4. Remove loose tiles, pre-treat existing old tiles with leaching agent,
correct any unevenness.
5. All adhesive surfaces must be free from dust, dirt and grease.
13.2.6 Assembly guidelines for wall elements
1. Prior to fitting the wall elements in the corners of rooms, apply a
non-woven sealing fleece at least 10 cm wide to the floor and
ceiling connections and in the area of the connecting joints of the
elements. Gluing should be done with a polymer-modified flexible
tile adhesive applied with a 5 mm serrated scraper. Bed in the
non-woven sealing skirt without creasing.
2. Install the elements at room temperature, min. 18°C
13.2.6.1 Total surface adhesion of RAUVISIO 6 mm elements
On firmly bonded layers of old tiles with permanently elastic PU
adhesive, e.g. Sikabond T54 Parquet or similar, even application with
a 5 mm serrated scraper, bonding within the time specified by the
adhesive manufacturer. Press down the elements completely and
evenly with a hard rubber roller and secure mechanically against
slipping for min. 8 h.
13.2.6.2 Total surface adhesion of 23 mm elements (XPS foam +
RAUVISIO 3 mm)
AOn firmly bonded layers of old tiles with permanently elastic PU
adhesive, e.g. Sikabond T54 Parquet or similar, or with a special
polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive approved for bonding to tiles.
Even application with a 5 mm serrated scraper, bonding within the
time specified by the adhesive manufacturer. Press down the
elements completely and evenly and secure mechanically against
slipping for min. 8 h.
BOn cement plaster or plasterboard across the whole surface with a
polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive. Even application with a 5
mm serrated scraper and bonding within the time specified by the
adhesive manufacturer, level any unevenness. Press down the
elements completely and evenly and secure mechanically against
slipping for min. 8 h. In corners of rooms and at element joints, seal
the wall areas with strips of non-woven sealing fleece beforehand
so that they are watertight.
13.2.6.3 Adhesion of 23 mm elements in strips
With MS polymer/hybrid polymer, e.g. Ottocoll M500, Soudaseal
240FC or similar.
Apply lines of adhesive Ø min. 8 mm along the entire length, spacing
max. 30 cm,
5 lines of adhesive across the element width 1 m. Press down the
elements completely and evenly and secure mechanically against
slipping for min. 8 h.
13.2.6.4 Assembling 23 mm elements on partition wall
constructions
Removable elements hung on the wood or metal partition construction
(e.g. with light design, disguising water, waste water, electrical
installations or maintenance of installations) with hook-on profiles, e.g.
fit Häfele Art. 783.50.955 or similar across the whole element width,
spacing between the profiles max. 60 cm, 5 rows of hook-on profiles
for a room height of 2.60 m.
Fix the hook-on profiles to the XPS panel with PU adhesive, fix until
the adhesive sets e.g. with Spax screws, screwed in manually without
any pre-drilling, or with suitable 20 mm double sided adhesive tape
for use on cement mortar, see Fig. 13-10.

13.3.1 Substrate

adhesion and shape according to the contour of the rebate for the

13.3.7 Work steps for manufacturing elements
1. Format the substrate and apply the edgebands made from
RAUVISIO 10 mm with PU adhesive/MS polymer, Fig. 13-18.
- Approved and sharp sawing and milling tools with HM or diamond
- tip, diamond cutting discs.
No jigsaws!
13.3.4 Complete surface adhesion
-Adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral (and also HPL 0.8 balancing sheet
where necessary) with RAUVISIO surface adhesive, double application (RAUVISIO on the reverse and XPS panel covered with non-woven material) with a glue roller, application quantity min. 200 g/m²,
cold pressing with a veneer press, compression pressure max. 1 kg/
cm². Compression duration min. 15-20 min., store flat and level for
12 h prior to further processing. Alternative adhesion with elastic PU
adhesive Sikabond T54 Parquet or similar, apply 3 mm of adhesive
evenly with serrated scraper and, to achieve an even adhesive joint
(flat surface), press in a cold press for approx. 15 min. with 1 kg/
cm², alternatively press for min. 12 h stack pressure across the
whole surface, min. 30 cm FPY stack (= 200 kg/m²). Store flat and
level for 12 h prior to further processing.
-Machine adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral (and also HPL 0.8 where
necessary) with elastic PU hotmelt, application min. 150 g/m² and
throughfeed press. Repress in the cold press in the event of rippling.
13.3.5 Surface adhesion is flame-resistant as per EN 13501-1
-RAUVISIO 6 mm of the design group FR
-Flame-resistant dispersion adhesive, e.g. Bindan BR (Bindulin) or

13.4
Floor elements
Elements for floors/wet room floors can also be manufactured with
RAUVISIO mineral.
RAUVISIO in the material thickness 6-10 mm is used to do this. Floor
coverings made from RAUVISIO can be laid on screed or existing tiled
floors.
13.4.5 Cleaning floors with a non-slip surface
Only clean non-slip surfaces with cleaning agents that do not contain
any water repellent additives, lubricants, gloss enhancers, wax,
silicone or similar. Any of these additives in the cleaner will create a
patina and will cause smearing/staining and will make the non-slip
surface ineffective.
13.4.1 Requirements for floors on the construction site
13.4.6 General information about planning floors for wet rooms
1. The floors to be covered must conform to the industry standard
and must be dry.
2. Damp floors require inspection and repair by a construction
specialist and, where specified, must be dried if necessary before
the flooring elements with RAUVISIO/the RAUVISIO floors can be
fitted.
3. Remove loose tiles, pre-treat existing old tiles with leaching agent,
correct any unevenness.
4. All adhesive surfaces must be free from dust, dirt and grease.
13.4.2 RAUVISIO floor covering with XPS panel
Elements made from the XPS lightweight panel and RAUVISIO 6 mm
are used in the case of additional thermal and sound insulation being
needed, or for height compensation for flush-fitting showers.
Using polymer-modified elastic tile adhesive, the elements with the
XPS panel are bonded to screed or tiles sanded with P80 across the
whole surface. Apply the adhesive evenly with a 5 mm serrated
scraper and press down on the panels evenly with a suitable tool, e.g.
metal roller or similar. Note the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
The bonded surface can be walked on after 24 h, or after 48 h at
temperatures below 15°C.
1.When installing flush-fitting shower trays, it is
necessary to create a waterproof seal across the entire
surface of the adjacent floor by sticking on a non-woven
sealing fleece (joints of the non-woven sealing fleece must
overlap by min. 10 cm), before the new floor surface is laid.
2. For break-free sealing of joints between panel elements and
of connecting or movement joints, the depth and width of
the joints are to be matched to one another, min. joint width
6 mm.
3. A fungicidal sanitary silicone, e.g. Ottoseal S130 or similar
(ensure bonding on both sides) is recommended for sealing
joints between panel elements and connecting or movement joints. Insert a rope seal into the joints to be sealed
beforehand where necessary.
4. Connecting or movement joints are maintenance joints that
have to checked regularly and replaced where necessary,
according to the seal manufacturer’s specifications, e.g.
OTTO-Chemie or similar.
13.4.3 RAUVISIO floor covering without XPS panel
RAUVISIO 6/10 mm can also be bonded with a permanently elastic PU
adhesive, e.g. Sikabond T54 Parquet (Sika) or similar directly to even
surfaces made from screed or to tiles pre-treated with leaching agent
across the whole surface. Apply the adhesive evenly with a 5 mm
serrated scraper and press down on the panels evenly with a suitable
tool, e.g. metal roller or similar. Note the information in the adhesive
manufacturer’s safety data sheet. The bonded surface can be walked
on after 24 h, or after 48 h at temperatures below 15°C and/or when
there is relative air humidity below 50%.
Current notes from the German Contractors Federation
(Zentralverbund Deutsches Baugewerbe / Fachverband
Fliesen und Naturstein) for the installation of bonded waterproofing with tiled finishes in indoor areas must be observed to
ensure that water cannot penetrate and cause construction
damage.

Disinfectants
-Use only water-based disinfectants for disinfection.
-Observe the disinfectant manufacturer’s advice on the mix ratio and
application.
-Disinfectants with the label: ‘Not suitable for acrylate’ should not be
used, as they cause damage to solid surface materials.
-Disinfectants for instruments in some cases contain a strong
oxidation agent and are significantly more aggressive than disinfectants for surfaces, causing damage to solid surface materials.
Anti-bacterial solid surface materials and hygiene
RAUVISIO mineral is not available in an anti-bacterial design. Such
designs (e.g. Microban) do not offer any product advantages and
burden the user.

Even anti-bacterial designs do not release the user from the obligation
to observe all hygiene guidelines.
Even stubborn stains can be removed by abrasive cleaning of the
surface with a Scotch-Brite pad 7447 or P600 sandpaper. Follow this
by sanding wet with Scotch-Brite pad 7447 or P600 sandpaper. Sand
only with a sanding disk.
This information is to the best of our knowledge based on the current
level of findings. A guarantee for the processing result in individual
cases cannot be made due to the variety of storage and processing
conditions lying outside of our area of influence. The user must check
all substances and concentrations not listed here themselves.

17 USAGE GUIDELINES FOR END CONSUMERS
Congratulations on choosing a product made with this high-quality
and durable material.
RAUVISIO mineral is a solid and fully coloured solid surface material
made of natural minerals and acrylic. The non-porous, homogeneous
material is hygienic and licensed for contact with foodstuffs and is
resistant to fungal and bacterial growth.
RAUVISIO mineral is pleasant to the touch, warm and has an excellent
visual depth effect.
RAUVISIO mineral is resistant to all household chemicals and
substances such as disinfectants. Extended use of aggressive
substances can leave marks or damage the material.
Chemical-resistance as per table “Chemical resistance (ISO 19712)
for panel thicknesses 3, 6 and 10 mm” on page 48. Users should
check the suitability of the substances not listed here themselves.
Refinishing can be carried out by a specialist.
In contrast to the most commonly known tiled and laminate surfaces,
the solid surface material RAUVISIO mineral can be repaired and
refurbished. Small indents and scratches or marks left by cigarette
burns can be removed with a Scotch-Brite sponge or wet P400
sandpaper. The surface finish can then be restored by a specialist.
The specialist can also repair areas of damage.
Use of cleaning agents
Make full use of the hygienic properties of RAUVISIO mineral in
day-to-day use by removing spillages as soon as possible with a
damp cloth.
Fundamentally, every form of stain or soiling is the result of water
composition, especially chalk content and a failure to clean
consistently.
Do not soak surfaces over a long period of time with aggressive
chemical substances, e.g. oven or drain cleaners, hydrogen peroxide,
nail polish remover, paint thinners, acetone, turpentine, chlorine or
disinfectant.
A specialist can remove damage to the surface caused by chemicals
or disinfectants using a suitable sanding stage and refinishing.
Matt surface
Cleaning work surfaces, sinks and washbasins with stainless
steel bases
Simple cleaning using a soft, wet sponge or microfibre cloth and a
degreasing cleaning agent without refattening agents is sufficient.
Stains from fat and oil can be removed in the same way.
Stubborn stains, dried spots or staining agents (fruit juice, coffee, tea)
can be wiped way with a soft sponge and liquid cleaning lotion
(without scouring agent). You can also use dishwasher, ceramic hob or
bath cleaners.
Remove heavy stains with a chlorine-based bathroom cleaner or VISS
power spray with active bleach and a soft sponge. Note the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Remove lime stains with a vinegar-based cleaner, vinegar or a
decalcifier.
Do not use sponges with a scrubber (e.g. Scotch-Brite, scouring
pads), as these may cause scratches.
After cleaning, rinse with clean water and rub dry every time.
Semi-gloss surface
Cleaning work surfaces and washbasins
Simple cleaning using a soft, wet sponge or microfibre cloth and a
degreasing cleaning agent without refattening agents is sufficient.

Scratches are more clearly visible on dark designs than on light
designs due to the heavy colour pigmentation.
High gloss surface
High gloss surfaces are very susceptible to scratching and require a
high level of care. These surfaces are suitable for decorative applications, but not for work surfaces.
Use of disinfectants
Only use water-based disinfectants to disinfect surfaces. Observe and
implement the manufacturer's information regarding the mixing ratio
and application. Do not use any cleaning agents and disinfectants with
the label:
‘Unsuitable for acrylates’ or ‘Unsuitable for surfaces or products made
of acrylic material’. These can cause irreparable damage to RAUVISIO
MINERAL. Disinfectants used for instruments or appliances contain
strong oxidation agents and should not be used for RAUVISIO
MINERAL as they can cause irreparable damage.

Refinishing of the surface to recreate the original condition
can be carried out by your supplier/specialist. Damage on horizontal

or vertical surfaces, e.g. including wall elements, can be repaired by a
specialist using a repair insert so that it is almost invisible.

-When cutting on the worktop, use a suitable cutting board
-Place hot objects (pots, pans, baking trays) only on a suitable,
heatproof mat or coaster rather than directly onto the worktop
-Hot objects should not jut out beyond the cooking area
-Install discharge plates over undermounted appliances that produce
warmth, cold or steam
-Do not use any heat sources (e.g. infra-red to keep meals warm), as
these cause stress cracks in the material
-The sanded underside of ceramic or porcelain can cause scratches
on the surfaces
-Do not pour any boiling liquids into basins without stainless steel
bases

-Only pour boiling water into sinks with stainless steel bases when
simultaneously letting cold water pour into the sink. Pour boiling
water onto the base of the basin only, not the side walls
-Do not pour boiling grease or oil into sinks or rinsing sinks. Wait until
it has cooled to dispose of it
-Do not stand on panels that are being stored or that are installed
-Do not stand in sinks or basins
-Do not stand on cooking areas

18 MATERIAL WARRANTY
GUARANTEES REHAU CONTRACTUAL PARTNER AND PROCESSOR
Guarantees for RAUVISIO mineral panels
1.
Scope of the warranty
REHAU grants its contractual partners and processors a
guarantee that extends beyond the agreed warranty for the
following products from the RAUVISIO mineral range in the scope
described in this warranty document:
The guarantees are granted for RAUVISIO mineral panels.
The guarantee concerns exclusively the panel material, not its
processing or other components of the product such as, for
example, basins, edgebands or accessories such as adhesive or
drainage kits.
The guarantee exclusively concerns delivered RAUVISIO mineral
panels where there are deviations from the specifications
provided in the data sheets from Section 14 according to the
Technical Information which is valid at the time of purchase.
2. Warranty conditions
2.1 The warranty is granted to the REHAU contractual partner and
processor on the condition that the defect appears before 10
years after the production of the panels. The relevant delivery
note and batch number has to be provided by REHAU’s contractual partner or the processor.
2.2 The guarantee from REHAU is rendered void if there is no proof
that the processing guidelines valid at the time of processing
were followed, or that the RAUVISIO Technical Information (www.
rehau.com/rauvisio) was not observed.
2.3 Damage of any type and incorrect processing, handling, use,
outside influences and installation errors or deficiencies are
excluded from the warranty.
3. Content and implementation of the warranty services
3.1 REHAU's liability covers the following compensation described
for panel material to which damage has occurred, that can be
proven to have been caused by production errors in our plant
and for which the fault lies with us.
-up to 10 years after panel production:
25% of the net sales price according to the purchase
agreement.
-up to 5 years after panel production, free-of-charge replacement of the panels (if REHAU no longer has the relevant
product in its range, a full refund of the net sales price
according to the purchase agreement will be made) as well as
50% of the production cost which were incurred during the
initial production of the protested installation.
-up to 2 years after panel production, free-of-charge replacement of the panels (if REHAU no longer has the relevant
product in its range, a full refund of the net sales price
according to the purchase agreement will be made) as well as
100 % of the production cost which were incurred during the
initial production of the protested installation.
The above described guarantee does not include free-of-charge
delivery from REHAU.
Further claims other than the aforementioned right to replacement deliveries, in particular claims for compensation of any
kind, do not form part of this warranty. This warranty does not
affect other claims against REHAU.
3.2 The overall duration of the warranty is not extended if a claim is
made against the warranty during the warranty period.
3.3 Additional verbal agreements have no validity.
2.4 In case of damage, REHAU must be given a chance to inspect
the damage immediately, not later than 14 days after the
damage has appeared and before any rectification measures are
carried out. Failure to do so will render this warranty void.
2.5 Any measures taken by REHAU to reduce the damage cannot be
counted as acknowledgement of any liability. Negotiations about
compensation do not in any way count as a waiver of the
requirement that the notice as per 2.4 should be given in good
time, be well founded or otherwise sufficient.
