Forte sedan and Forte5 wear new front and rear styling with a “tiger nose” grille that has been extended to connect with
new headlights. Completing the exterior redesign are newly designed tail lights, with optional LEDs.

Both the S and EX trims come standard with UVO link*, which is displayed on a 7-inch color touch screen and includes a

Forte’s available convenience features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)* with Pedestrian Detection,
Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS)*, Lane Change Assist (LCA)*, Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)*, Lane

VOICE OF THE
CUSTOMER
J.D. Power and Associates*
Initial Quality StudySM (IQS)*
Opportunities for
increasing satisfaction
J.D. Power and Associates* Initial Quality StudySM (IQS)* surveys new Kia buyers for reported vehicle problems within the first 90 days of ownership.
In past studies, J.D. Power and Associates* has found that many of the “problems” customers report are not actual problems but rather perceived
problems because customers don’t fully understand how to operate the feature or know how the feature is designed to work.
Kia Sales Consultants and dealerships can prevent these misperceptions by setting proper expectations and fully explaining and demonstrating
feature operation during the delivery process.
Below are features we foresee as potentially difficult to understand (DTU) or hard to operate (HTO) on the 2017 Forte.
During vehicle delivery, it is important for you to explain and demonstrate these features so that your customers completely understand what they
are and how to use them.
• It affects the ownership experience: When the customer knows how everything works and feels comfortable operating all the features on the vehicle, he/she
gets more from the ownership experience
• It affects customer impressions of quality: If the customer has an improper understanding of how something works, or simply doesn’t know how to operate a
feature, they are apt to blame their misunderstanding or lack of familiarity on a feature malfunction
• It affects important survey scores: If customers mistakenly think something is wrong with a feature on the vehicle, they will negatively mark it on important
quality surveys like J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality StudySM (IQS)

WALKAROUND
Walkaround Strategies
There are 3 essential elements
to presenting a superior Kia Forte
walkaround:
1) FEATURE-FUNCTION-BENEFIT STRUCTURE
Great Forte walkaround presentations translate product features into
explanations of functions and the specific benefits those features provide
to the customer.
Remember: Customers don’t buy features, they buy benefits. By clearly
explaining them, Kia Sales Consultants build perceptions of value and
help move customers more confidently toward a purchase decision.
2) FIVE KEY BUYER MOTIVATORS
During your walkaround, focus on features that are most important
to the customer’s unique motivations to build the greatest interest
in your product. This helps the customer build an emotional
connection with the vehicle and expand their “reasons to buy” list.
Typical customer motivations fall into the following categories:
Feature-Function-Benefit Example:
• Feature: Bluetooth* wireless technology
• Function: Wirelessly integrates capability of compatible cellular phones
with Forte’s audio system
• Benefit: Provides hands-free voice-command phone operation to
enhance convenience
Value
Safety & Security
Comfort &
Convenience
Performance
Reliability
3) 6-POSITION WALKAROUND FORMAT
A 6-position style walkaround is a helpful structure for Kia Sales Consultants to learn and memorize features,
functions and benefits, as well as an excellent flow for your actual showroom product presentations.

FRONT END
• Projector Beam Headlights help provide improved visibility and offer a
luxurious touch (Standard on all trims)
• Available LED Positioning Lights help make Forte more visible to
oncoming drivers and project an upscale, modern image. (Standard on S,
EX, and SX)
• Available Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights with
Dynamic Bending Light (DBL) and auto-leveling uses special bulbs
filled with pressurized xenon gas to produce up to three times the light of
a traditional halogen bulb with up to 70% wider road coverage. Dynamic
Bending Light (DBL) helps improve cornering visibility by moving the
headlight beam into upcoming turns. The self-leveling feature ensures
optimal headlight aim and visibility. (Available on Sedan EX, Forte5 SX
(no DBL); Standard on Koup SX)
• Front fog lights help enhance visibility in inclement weather.
(Available on S and Forte5 LX; Standard on EX and SX trims)
• Strong, stiff unibody structure for exceptional stability and handling.
Forte’s unibody structure featuring high-tensile strength steel in about
70% of key body parts benefits the vehicle’s stability and handling
(Standard on all trims)
• Great-looking wheels add to Forte’s good looks:
»» 15-in. steel wheels (Standard on Sedan LX and Forte5 LX)
»» 16-in. alloy wheels (Available on Forte5 LX; Standard on Sedan S
and Koup EX)
»» 17-in. alloy wheels (Standard on Sedan EX and Forte5 EX)
»» 18-in. alloy wheels (Standard on Forte5 SX and Koup SX)

2017 FORTE WALKAROUND
UNDER THE HOOD
• 2.0L Atkinson MPI 4-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower
(Standard on Sedan LX and S)
2.0L GDI 4-cylinder engine with 164 horsepower
(Standard on Sedan EX, Koup EX, Forte5 LX and Forte5 EX)
Available 1.6L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower
(Standard on Koup SX and Forte5 SX)
All three engines feature strong, lightweight aluminum cylinder blocks and
cylinder heads for greater performance and efficiency
• In addition, the 2.0L GDI 4-cylinder engine features a unique weightreducing and performance-boosting design, including:
»» Optimal variation of intake/exhaust valve timing to help improve fuel
economy* and reduce exhaust emissions
»» Lightweight intake manifold to help reduce weight and increase
engine output
»» Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (Dual CVVT) varies the timing
of the intake and exhaust valves, based on the engine rpm and load, to
help provide increased performance and fuel efficiency at all speeds
• Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) (2.0L GDI engine) is a state-of-the-art
fuel delivery system that routes/injects fuel directly into the combustion
chamber cylinder. This orientation allows for greater precision, resulting in
better, more efficient combustion for increased power and efficiency while
helping to reduce emissions. And since the fuel charge is cool, it also helps
mitigate pre-ignition, or knock.
• A choice of transmissions:
»» 6-speed manual transmission has higher high gears and lower low
gears, providing smooth shift and clutch performance, excellent
durability and enhanced fuel economy (Standard on Sedan LX, Koup SX
and Forte5 SX)
››Advanced pull-up “Reverse” gear release button offers easier operation
and a sporty feel
»» 6-speed Sportmatic® automatic transmission provides responsive,
effortless shifting throughout the RPM range, and offers Sportmatic®
clutchless manual shifting for a more enthusiastic driving experience
»» 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) uses two clutches to provide
the best of both worlds; the efficient design of a manual transmission
with the convenience of an automatic. (Available on the Forte5 SX and
Koup SX)
12
2017 Kia Forte | Product Workbook
• Available Sport-tuned suspension increases responsiveness for sportier
handling. (Standard: Sedan S, Forte5 SX, Koup SX)
• Electric Power Steering (EPS) uses an electric motor, versus the
conventional hydraulic pump to provide steering assist. It varies assist
according to speed: more assist at lower speeds to make maneuvers such
as parking easier; less assist as speeds increase, for better road feel.
Since the system does not require a hydraulic pump, it does not draw
engine power, helping improve fuel efficiency compared to a conventional
hydraulic power steering system (Standard on all trims)
• 4-wheel disc brakes deliver great braking performance and resistance
to fade
• 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) modulates brake pressure to help
prevent lockup during hard braking situations, helping to give the driver
better control of the vehicle
• Brake Assist System (BAS)* senses an emergency stop and automatically
applies full brake pressure to help reduce stopping distances
• Electronic Stability Control (ESC)* can detect if the vehicle is straying
from the driver’s intended path and assists with correcting the situation by
adjusting engine power and applying select brakes to help the driver bring
the vehicle back in line
• Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)* helps the driver maintain control
by providing further enhancements to vehicle stability and steering
response when a vehicle is driving on a slippery road or when the system
detects changes in the coefficient of friction between the right and left
wheels when braking. It is like conventional Electronic Stability Control* but
uses steering inputs in the corrective action. NOTE: VSM* does not operate
when driving on a banked road, driving in reverse, when ESC* is OFF or if
there is a system malfunction
• Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)* helps to prevent rollback on steep
inclines by applying the brakes when the driver moves his/her foot from
the brake to the accelerator pedal. When starting on slopes, the driver may
experience a slight hesitation. This is normal

TILT AND TELESCOPING STEERING COLUMN
Point out:
• To adjust the steering column, push down the lock-release lever and adjust
to the desired angle and distance
• When finished, pull up the lock-release lever to lock the steering wheel
in place
PUSH BUTTON START WITH SMART KEY*
Point out:
• Weak battery or malfunctioning Smart Key*: Use the mechanical key inside
the Smart Key* fob to unlock the driver’s door. Start the engine by pressing
the ENGINE START/STOP button with the Smart Key*, facing the “Lock”
button side of the fob
• Emergency engine shutoff: Some emergency situations may require the
driver to turn off the engine while the vehicle is in motion. To do this, turn the
engine to the ACC position by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button for
more than 3 seconds or 3 times in succession. With the engine off, hydraulic
power assist for braking will be disabled and the vehicle will be more
difficult to control. If you need to restart the vehicle while it is in motion, put
the shift lever in Neutral (N) and press the ENGINE START/STOP button
• To enter ACC mode: With the engine off and your foot NOT depressing the
brake, press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. You can now listen to the
radio and operate many of the other accessories. Press the button again (with
foot off the brake) and the system will enter ON mode. You can now operate
features such as the power windows. Press the button once more and the
system will go back to OFF. The vehicle automatically goes back to OFF if left
in ACC mode for more than 1 hour, in order to preserve battery life
• Lost Smart Key*: During Delivery, you will want to record the key-code
number in a safe place. The key-code number is on the tag that comes with
the key. With this number, Kia can duplicate the key should it ever get lost
POWER-FOLDING EXTERIOR MIRRORS
Point out:
• Customers should not MANUALLY fold in or fold out the mirrors. Should the
power–folding mirrors be folded in or out manually, the mirrors will need to
be re-synced with the motors or they will not stay in the desired position and
appear loose. To sync a power–folding mirror with the motor:
»» Manually fold the mirror out, and then use the power–folding switch
on the driver’s door panel to close the mirror
»» The mirror should then operate properly when using the power–folding
option; cycle three times to ensure proper operation

the vehicle’s horsepower-to-weight ratio and contributing to improved
fuel efficiency

WALKAROUND > REAR — DELIVERY TIPS (CONTINUED)
TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS)*
Point out:
• The TPMS* light functions as both the Low Tire Pressure Light and the system
malfunction indicator
• It will light up and stay lit if one or more tires is significantly underinflated,
if the vehicle has a spare tire without TPMS* installed or if the outside
temperature becomes significantly colder
• To turn off the light, inflate the tire(s) to specifications using an accurate
digital tire pressure gauge (see the front driver’s door jamb for PSI specs) and
drive vehicle for approximately 20 minutes
• If the light blinks for approximately one minute and then stays lit, there is a
problem with the TPMS* system. See the dealer for service
Key Points:
»» Check the tire pressure manually at least monthly
»» Always use a quality tire pressure gauge to check inflation pressure
»» Tires should be checked and inflated when they are COLD, meaning
the vehicle has sat for more than three hours or been driven less than
one mile
»» The tires should be inflated to the recommended pressure, as indicated on
the Tire and Loading Information Label on the driver’s door jamb
»» Tires lose pressure over time, even without a puncture. Temperature also
affects pressure — approximately 1 psi for every 10°F of change
»» After inflating your tire to the recommended pressure or replacing a tire, it
may take up to 20 minutes of continuous driving above 16 mph before the
low tire pressure warning light turns off
»» The TPMS indicator may flash briefly when driving in areas with radio
frequency transmitters. The indicator may also flash due to external
electronic devices connected to the vehicle’s power outlets. This is not
a TPMS malfunction and will not affect its safety features. No repair is
necessary unless the TPMS indicator remains on

APPENDIX
2017
KIA FORTE SEDAN VS. 2016 FORD FOCUS SEDAN:
THE FORTE BOTTOM LINE: WORDTRACKS
PERFORMANCE
Kia Forte WordTrack: Forte’s 2.0L GDI engine blows past Focus’ 1.0L Turbo engine:
164 hp vs. 123 hp. Plus, Forte’s standard 6-speed manual transmission bests Ford’s
standard 5-speed manual transmission.
VARIETY
Kia Forte WordTrack: Forte is available in three body styles: a four-door sedan,
five-door hatchback and two-door coupe; Focus only offers four- and five-door models.
COMFORT & CONVENIENCE
Kia Forte WordTrack: Ford has done a fair job at improving its interior over the
years; however, there are several luxurious features that the Focus simply does
not offer. Forte makes available ventilated front seats – which is not offered on any
trim of the Ford. Forte features not available on Focus include Android AutoTM* and
Apple CarPlay®* (late availability), Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS)* and
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)* with Pedestrian Detection.
ROOMINESS
Kia Forte WordTrack: Forte offers more passenger volume than Focus: 96.2 cu.-ft.
vs. 90.0 cu.-ft. and also offers more front/rear legroom than the Ford competitor: 35.9
inches vs. 33.2 inches. Plus, Forte serves up more trunk space, too: 14.9 cu.-ft. vs.
13.2 cu.-ft.
WARRANTY*
Kia Forte WordTrack: When it comes to peace of mind, Forte Sedan offers 2
years/24,000 miles* more of New Vehicle Limited Basic coverage and 5 years/40,000
miles* more of Limited Powertrain coverage than the Focus.

APPENDIX
2017 KIA FORTE SEDAN VS. 2016 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN:
THE FORTE BOTTOM LINE: WORDTRACKS
VARIETY
Kia Forte WordTrack: Forte is available in three body styles: a 4-door Sedan, 5-door
hatchback and 2-door coupe. The Civic is only available in two body styles, a 4-door
Sedan and 2-door coupe.
VALUE
Kia Forte WordTrack: The Forte offers added value with available Blind Spot
Detection (BSD)* with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Assist (RCTA)*.
The Forte has available added comfort with the 10-way power adjustable driver’s
seat and ventilated front seats. None of these are available on the Civic.
COMFORT & CONVENIENCE
Kia Forte WordTrack: While both Forte Sedan and Civic Sedan feature an attractive
array of standard technology and convenience features, Forte raises the bar with
additional luxurious features uncommon in the compact segment. These include
Standard SiriusXM®* Satellite Radio on all trims with 3-month trial subscription;
available on Civic only as part of a package or on higher trims, and Xenon HID
headlights with Dynamic Bending Light (DBL) not offered on Civic.
WARRANTY*
Kia Forte WordTrack: When it comes to peace of mind, Forte Sedan has
5 years/40,000 miles* more of Limited Powertrain coverage than the Civic.

APPENDIX
2017 KIA FORTE5 VS. 2016 FORD FOCUS HATCH:
THE FORTE BOTTOM LINE: WORDTRACKS
PERFORMANCE
Kia Forte WordTrack: Although they both feature standard Gasoline Direct Injection
(GDI) technology, the 2.0L 4 cyl. engine found on Forte5 produces more horsepower
and more lb.-ft. of torque than the 2.0L engine on Focus 5-Door. What’s more, Forte5
features a standard, smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission, compared to
the standard 5-speed manual transmission on Focus 5-Door.
COMFORT & CONVENIENCE
Kia Forte WordTrack: While both Forte5 and Focus 5-Door feature standard invehicle infotainment/telematics systems, when it comes to amenities, Forte5 ups the
ante with available Android AutoTM* and Apple CarPlay®* (late availability). Forte5 also
offers available features like LED tail lights and ventilated front seats — neither are
available on Focus 5-Door.
ROOMINESS
Kia Forte WordTrack: With a generous 98.2 cu.-ft. of interior volume compared to
91.0 cu.-ft. on Focus 5-Door, Forte5 offers passengers more front head, shoulder and
leg room, and more rear head, shoulder, hip and leg room.
VALUE
Kia Forte WordTrack: Focus 5-Door and Forte5 offer many of the same features,
such as anti-lock brakes and Electronic Stability Control (ESC)*. However, Forte5 also
offers drivers the peace of mind of standard Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)*, a feature
that will cost Focus 5-Door owners extra.
WARRANTY*
Kia Forte WordTrack: With Kia's revered 10-Year/100,000 mile* powertrain Warranty
Program, every Forte comes with 2 years/24,000 miles* more of Limited Basic
