Introduction
The hand winding display unit from TVC, is a stand-alone positional tracking device, intended to audibly
and visually report the position and floor level status under hand winding operation.
This unit includes the battery backed supply, battery charger, and DDU display unit, housed in one
enclosure.
Positional tracking is performed by monitoring the floor level and reset switches, under hand wind
operation, battery power is diverted through the existing tape head switches.

Application
This section describes the three different types of application. The first being the tape head application,
which as its name suggests, allows the handwind display to be controlled via existing tape head unit or
proximity switches of many kinds.
The second application within this manual describes the application of the hand wind unit to an existing
TVC controller utilising the SE500 shaft encoder.
The third application within this manual describes the application of the hand wind unit to an existing TVC
controller utilising the ETHOS VCOM encoder.

3.1 Tape Head Application
This application uses existing volt free contact switches or tape head contacts to signal the hand wind unit
of floor level status, this works by diverting your existing tape head signals into the hand wind unit, which
then creates a duplicate set of contacts through pilot relays, which are then fed back to the control
system.
Beware of power inductor type switches, which require mains voltages, which won’t be present during
power down situations.

8 Visual Display Messages
There are three types of display messages, Hand-Wind/Normal, Reset Messages and Floor position
messages, these messages are constantly rotated and re-cycled depending upon their respective input
configuration.
8.1 Hand-Wind / Normal Messages
There are two operating modes, Normal and Hand-Wind, the selection of which depends upon the status
of input HW on the electronics display unit.

8.2 Reset Signal Messages.
The reset signal BFR synchronise the internal selector positions, and are reported on the message
display when active.

8.3 Floor Level Messages.
The floor level messages will be displayed depending upon the input signals LU, LD & SDZ, although
SDZ is reserved for applications with an SE500 Shaft Encoder system and DZF for VCOM applications.

8.4 Floor Position Display.
The floor position characters have been pre-programmed during manufacture of this device; contact
Liftstore Ltd for modifications to the floor characters.
“XX” will be displayed in the floor position display when the position is unknown, the position is unknown
when the unit is powered for the first time, or when the mains power and battery have been removed or
exhausted.
The position will automatically update when the position is synchronised by the assertion of the bottom
floor reset, BFR.
If the parameter dipswitch SW1.4 is set to ON, position display will be allowed to show inverse video
whilst at floor level.
8.5 Selector Stepping Sequence
The floor leveller switches are used in this application to automatically step the internal electronic
selector.
Once a sequence has been triggered by the assertion of a floor level signal, the sequence will only
terminate when both leveller switches become inactive, then the sequence can start again.

The Hand-Winding unit has been fitted with an Audible device, this device will sound if the unit is on hand
winding mode, and is within door zone.

10 Option Configuration
This unit has been fitted with a number of option dipswitches, these dip switches are located on the
reverse of this electronic display unit. The configuration will depend on the software version fitted to the
unit. Changes to the settings will only take place after a full system power down and reset.

To reset the new dipswitch settings, remove and replace JP1 on the electronic display module.
11 Position Reset.
The position-reset input BFR (bottom floor reset), becoming active forces the position to the preprogrammed bottom floor position and inhibits the selector stepping function.
Selecting the appropriate dipswitch to the ON position will enable normally closed reset limits operation.
