Expansion of LED activities with two new start-ups: Lexedis and Ledon
The international Light+Building fair that opens its doors in Frankfurt, Germany, from April 23-27, 2006,
is the lighting industry's premier event. The Zumtobel Group of Dornbirn, Austria, will be using this
prominent platform to showcase its three established international brands – Zumtobel, Thorn and
TridonicAtco – alongside its two new LED start-ups. This will be the first time that the Group's brands
have set out their stands in a cohesive display area, reflecting the Zumtobel Group's positioning as
one of the few global players in the international lighting industry. Through the interplay of the various
brands and start-ups under the umbrella of the Zumtobel Group, the Austrian lighting company is able
to address complementary target groups, markets and segments across the professional lighting
industry, and exploit the synergies and economies of scale available to a global player.
Technology and innovation leader
As the industry's technology and innovation leader, the Zumtobel Group will be showing leading-edge
technology and the latest lighting solutions on five stands covering a total of 1,305 square metres. The
stands are located in the Festival Hall (Festhalle) which this year forms part of what is the world's
largest lighting trade fair for the first time. The most significant innovations among the many new
products from the Zumtobel Group include new recessed LED luminaires, the HELIODISC with its
avant-garde design by Hadi Teherani, the swivelling downlight 2LIGHT C, the patented 3-dimensional
light control of the PYTHAGORAS recessed luminaire (all from Zumtobel) and the innovative ORUS
street lantern system from Thorn. One highlight on the Zumtobel stand will be the LED spotlight
TEMPURA, the first shop-lighting system based on innovative LEXELTM technology, developed in
conjunction with the EOOS design company and the Group's own LED start-up, Ledon. In the
components business, the TridonicAtco brand is setting the pace of innovation in the fields of digital
dimmable electronic ballasts and high-power LED light modules.
For Zumtobel AG CEO Andreas J. Ludwig, the Group's presence at the fair is indicative of its
international orientation: “We are delighted to be so strongly represented at this landmark event with

New brand logo: Zumtobel Staff is now Zumtobel

The Light+Building fair also marks the launch of a new Corporate Design for the Zumtobel brand in
preparation for the further internationalisation of its business. The Zumtobel Staff brand, which
originated as a combination of the names Zumtobel and Staff following their merger in 1994, is
replaced by a striking and distinctive "Zumtobel" logo. The new combination of the Zumtobel name and
an icon stands for the fascination of light. The clear message conveyed by the logo with its appealing
icon communicates the brand’s core competencies at international level. The launch of the new
Zumtobel Corporate Design is accompanied by a comprehensive image campaign under the brand's
overarching motto for the fair: "Humanergy Balance".
The investments in the Zumtobel brand's new Corporate Design are part of the
internationalisation of the brand, which is increasingly focused on growing its business in the
English-speaking and Asian markets. According to the brand's Executive Vice President Peter
Matt, "'With our new Corporate Design we are aiming to send out an international signal: the Zumtobel
brand stands for innovative, integral lighting solutions that we offer worldwide. In the course of
Zumtobel's global expansion strategy we are anticipating strong growth, and that calls for a brand that
enjoys high recognition around the world."
Ledon and Lexedis make their debut at Light+Building
At Light+Building, for the first time the Zumtobel Group is showing visitors the range of products and
services offered by its two recent start-ups in the LED sector, Lexedis Lighting and Ledon Lighting.
LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are semiconductor-based point light sources that offer high brightness and
outstanding durability. With their ever-increasing efficiency, white LEDs will in future become more and
more important as light sources in their own right. In 2005, the Zumtobel Group laid the foundations for
the expansion of its LED business by founding two new companies. Based in Jennersdorf, Austria,
Lexedis Lighting is a 50:50 joint venture between TridonicAtco and the Japanese chip manufacturer
Toyoda Gosei, focused on the development and production of high-power white LED light sources.
Ledon Lighting, based in Lustenau, Austria, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zumtobel AG and will be
concentrating on innovative lighting solutions based on new LED technologies.

The Zumtobel Group, based in Dornbirn in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, is one of the few global
players in the lighting industry. The Group, which started life as Elektrogeräte und Kunstharzpresswerk
W. Zumtobel KG in 1950, today employs a workforce of 7,000 and concluded the financial year
2004/05 with consolidated sales of EUR 1,129.2 million. Under the leadership of its Executive Board of
Dr. Andreas J. Ludwig (CEO) and Thomas Spitzenpfeil (CFO), the Group today comprises two
subgroups. Zumtobel Lighting Division, the luminaire business, includes the Thorn and Zumtobel
brands along with their shared production network, International Lighting Technologies. The
TridonicAtco Division handles the lighting components side of the business. The financial year of the
Zumtobel Group commences on May 1 and ends on April 30.
