Your SPARC SHD-ITR2BT

Your SHD-ITR2BT is a high-quality tabletop and transportable radio offering the most advanced radio reception technology—HD Radio™ Technology.

2

HD Radio™ Technology

The SHD-ITR2BT tunes both traditional analog AM/FM and new

HD Radio digital broadcasts. In digital mode, sound quality is improved, new broadcast streams (stations) not available in analog are available, and advanced programming information such as Artist and Song Title can be displayed. To find new digital stations, go to www.hdradio.com/stations .

Primary (HD1) signals are received in both analog and digital. If the digital signal is lost, the Radio will automatically blend to the analog signal and continue to play. However, when receiving the new additional signals (HD2/HD3), there is no analog signalcomponent : if the signal is lost, the Radio will mute to silence.

If this happens, you can wait for the signal to return or simply tune the Radio to another station.

Exploring Emergency Alerts

Emergency Alerts (EA) is a warning system used by broadcasters to notify listeners about potential hazardous situations related to extreme weather, floods, infrastructure failures, amber alerts (child abductions), and more.

The Radio must be in an environment so that it can receive the audio and data services from a station that broadcasts the

Emergency Alerts.

NOTE: Out of the box, the Emergency Alerts Monitoring feature is set to OFF.

When Emergency Alerts Monitoring is ON, the Radio will present the listener with audio and text-based alerts; and, the alerts can even awaken the Radio from a standby mode.

Enabling EA Locations in your Radio

There are advantages to enabling EA locations in your Radio’s memory. For example, when the setting for Location is enabled

(“On”) and when various locations are defined in the broadcast signal but none of your locations match any of the locations in the broadcast signal, then the Radio will not display text alerts (and the alerts will not awaken the Radio from standby mode).

Thus, your Radio will process and present only those alerts that are relevant to your area.

Optionally, when the setting for Location is enabled (“On”) and when various locations are defined in the broadcast signal and when one of your locations matches one of the locations in the broadcast signal, then the Radio will display text alerts (or the alerts will awaken the Radio from standby mode).

Thus, your Radio will process and present all of the received alerts, for your situational awareness.

Optionally, when the setting for Location is enabled (“On”) but there are zero locations defined in the broadcast signal (and your locations are defined the Radio’s memory), then the Radio will display text alerts (or the alerts will awaken the Radio from standby mode). In these conditions, the Radio will set aside your locations that you defined in the Radio’s memory and the Radio will present the situational emergency information for your awareness.

Thus, your Radio will process and present all of the received alerts, for your situational awareness.

SNOOZE button.

Ignoring an Emergency Alert:

After the Emergency Alert is ignored, no alerting functionality will be triggered on the ignored message until the ‘ignore’ time has expired. ‘Ignore’ expires immediately when a new Alert message is received.

How to improve signal reception

You may notice:

 that the HD Radio sound keeps switching between digital and analog audio

 that the HD Radio indicator keeps turning on and off

If so, you may be out of range of the HD Radio stations in your area. Extend your antenna or move your Radio closer to a window to improve reception.

Change the position of the Radio and/or antenna

Reception is improved when the Radio is near windows and outside walls. Electrical devices like appliances, computers, smartphones, light fixtures, light dimmers, motors, etc. may interfere with reception.

This Radio is equipped with an external, extendable FM antenna. Take care not to bend or break the antenna while moving it: position the antenna for best possible reception.

This Radio is also equipped with an internal AM antenna. Repositioning the Radio may improve reception in AM mode.

Change the location of the AC power supply

Locate the AC power supply as far from the FM antenna as practical, and position the FM antenna for best possible reception.
