Bringing an Unexpected Edge and Versatile Dimension to Home Style Components

For a relatively diminutive A/V receiver system, the L-UN7 really does cover all the bases. The ability to handle breakthrough audio formats,

DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, as well as regular CDs, digital MP3 and WMA files, is impressive enough. But the L-UN7 will also enable you to playback progressive scan DVD sources with a virtual surround sound-field, and it also takes DTS ® and Dolby ® Digital sources into the full 5.1-channel realm with connection to a power (main) amplifier and speakers. Onkyo has incorporated its core technologies—VLSC

(Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) and Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry—to give you the cleanest, most accurate signals possible. With space-saving qualities and versatility, the L-UN7 will neatly integrate into virtually any space of your choice and give you greater entertainment options.

Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio on Top of MP3s, WMA and Regular CDs

With the capability to accommodate today’s leading audio formats, DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, the L-UN7 brings you a sound quality previously unfound in compact systems. DVD-Audio offers 5.1 channels (up to 96 kHz/24-bit) or

2 channels (192 kHz/24-bit), while Super Audio CD has a 100 kHz frequency response and a 2.822 MHz sampling rate (64 times greater than a regular CD).

As DVD-Audio also carries the DTS and Dolby Digital formats, you also have the option of enjoying their respective audio formats with the L-UN7’s onboard codecs. And if you don’t have the L-UN7 connected to another power amplifier for multichannel music, the L-UN7 will downmix the multichannel recording into stereo for playback. Also, take any of your MP3 or WMA files copied to CD-R or

CD-RW for playback through the L-UN7’s scintillating audio fidelity.

Progressive Scan DVD Playback with Surround Sound Effects

With component video outputs on the rear, the L-UN7 is ready to send progressive scan video signals to compatible displays. To appreciate DTS Surround, Dolby

Digital and Dolby Digital Pro Logic II decoding, you can set-up a full 5.1-channel surround system (with an external power amplifier as well as center/surround speakers and a subwoofer). If you want to keep it simple, Onkyo’s Theater

Dimensional virtual surround sound-field will work with your existing two speakers (as well as a subwoofer via the pre out).

WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology)

Originally developed for our high-end A/V receivers, WRAT is a collection of

Onkyo’s proprietary technologies that achieves three fundamental goals in the pursuit of superior audio:

1) Wider frequency response;

2) Reduced amplifier distortion at high volume;

3) Better control of current and electro/mechanical kick-back from speakers.

By incorporating WRAT into the L-UN7 ensures that you’ll get audio playback quality from your movies and music that just isn’t possible from poorly conceived audio components.

VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) for Front Channels

The L-UN7 incorporates Onkyo’s VLSC, which employs a unique digital-to-analog conversion circuit to mitigate the effect of signal noise. As noise is further magnified by the DAC and surrounding circuitry, it is necessary to effectively remove noise that can adversely affect the signal. VLSC compares the signal between two sampling points, and then joins the points with analog vectors in real-time to create a smooth output wave. Through this circuitry, we can realize a pulse-noise-free signal based on the digital source.

iPod Playback through Onkyo’s RI (Remote Interactive) System Capability

With Onkyo’s RI system capabilities, you can add other Onkyo components to the L-UN7 and operate them through one single remote control. RI capability also gives you the opportunity to integrate the iPod with your CD receiver system through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Simply connect the dock to the L-UN7, place your iPod in the dock and relish the fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability also gives you remote operability over your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music. The DS-A1 is compatible with most iPod models, and will also accommodate the latest iPod releases.

2-Way, Bass Reflex Speakers Incorporating Onkyo’s Own

Speaker Developments

Designed to neatly complement the CD receiver in any room of the home, the L-UN7’s 2-way, bass reflex speakers are designed to playback music with no interference and maximum efficiency. The Advanced Onkyo Microfiber

(A-OMF) diaphragm woofer is made from a three-layer construction that absorbs vibrations that can adversely affect the quality of the emitted sound. This thin yet rigid diaphragm enables an extremely fast and accurate response—essential for the reproduction of quality audio. Also, a V-Line Edge on the suspension suppresses any extraneous vibrations that can cause the sound to deteriorate significantly. Capping it off, an Aero Acoustic Drive (slit duct) has been included to reproduce a sound that is both responsive and spacious it its delivery.
