Connect the handset to the machine, connect the power cord to the machine and plug it into an electrical socket, and connect the telephone line cord to the machine in the socket marked LINE.

Press Menu/Set, 1, 2. Enter the last two digits of the year, then press Menu/Set. Enter two digits for the month, then press Menu/Set. Enter two digits for the day, then press Menu/Set. Enter the time in 24-hour format, and then press Menu/Set. Press Stop/Exit.

Press Receive Mode repeatedly until the screen displays the setting you want to use. There are several options: FAX ONLY (dedicated fax line), FAX/TEL (receiving fax and voice calls on one line), TAD:ANSWER MACH. (for use with an external answering device), MANUAL (receiving fax and voice calls on one line with manual control), and MC:MSG CTR (built-in answering machine on FAX-837MC only).
