Introduction
Column thermostat is used to keep column temperature in HPLC assembly stable.
Temperature is controlled both in column space, and it is eventually possible to measure and
regulate temperature of two external positions.
Column thermostat is designed as a stand alone device, which can be connected into a
central controlled assembly, consisting of more devices, which can communicate with DataApex
software. There is no limitation in device producer. INGOS assembly also communicates via
freeware Chromulan. Serial communication allows interconnection of particular units as an HPLC
assembly or for other purpose. This assembly (slave) can be controlled via computer (master).

Caution:
The fasteners are fitted with a standard thread for HPCL (UNF10-32 th/inch). Be sure not to use
the M5 screws!
Usage discordant to user manual can cause safety violation!
2.
Description and specifications
2.1 Description
The device consists of case, which encloses tempered space. Keyboard and display is on the
front side, switch and connectors are on the rear side. Heat transfer is realized through aluminium
block, whole tempered space is isolated. Temperature is regulated on two positions. Heating /
cooling is realized by Peltier element.
Device can be controlled via device keyboard or via computer software (CHROMuLAN or
DataApex). Special assemblies can be turned on by TTL signal.

Device is designed for ambient with a temperatures range 15 - 35 °C, humidity up to 80%
without acidic and corrosive vapours.
Operating stuff must be instructed about security regulations and safe work with used liquids.
3.
Putting into operation
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully unpack the column oven from the box. Check the enclosure for any transport
damages. If there are any, please contact the carrier.
With reference to packing list check presence of all items. Don´t forget to check the entire
wrapping material. In case of any missing part, please contact your provider or producer.
Place the column oven on the table and familiarize yourself with the location and function
of particular control and connection components. Before the first switch-on, read carefully user
manual.
Space behind the device must be at least 0,1m. Cold air inlet is at the base of the device, this
should not be covered!

3.1.1 What will you need
For putting into operation will be needed these items:
1. Column.
2. Appropriate hydraulics.
3.1.2 Connectors, device assembly
Power switch is placed in the back panel to the right. On the back panel is power inlet, fuse,
communication connector and connectors additional controllers.
Aux. output: Connector with TTL logic level signals for control additional devices (4 output control, 2 input – to confirm execute the function).
Communication: Couple of µ LAN connectors for double-wire connection of the whole set
connected into purpose system. µ LAN network is electrically compatible to RS 485 standards.
All connections and interconnections shall be done only by cables delivered by the producer.
Connectors are mutually noninterchangeable.

3.2 Keyboard and display
Display with a keypad provides useful facturing comfort for direct control and program
management.
The function of each button follows:

button to turn on/ off control temperature in the column box.
The correct function is indicated with continuous illumination LED in the
upper left of the button. Flashing led is signaled failure.
F
is a reserve for special functions to customer requirements.
LESS a MORE
key for setting the temperature.

key for the memory, where it is possible to save two parameters temperature
settings.
The functional memory is indicated illumination LED in the upper left (right)
of the button.
Use the arrow buttons to switch views of individual regulators. The current status is indicated by
LEDs on the right side of the display.

3.3 Switched on the instrument
Procedure to switch on the instrument follows:
1. Connect the device to a power outlet of the corresponding voltage.
2. Connect the communication cable with the set chromatographic.
3. Connect with capillaries and fittings with set chromatographic.
4. Power switch on, after the switching is instrument in STANBY mode.
5. Then follow the next chapter.

OPERATION
All instrument function are controlled using the keypad on the front panel. Mode button with
the arrow keys switch to the temperature you want to set (for columns is t1). Shortly shows the
temperature value set and than actual value. Use the MORE or LESS you can change the desired
temperature. If you hold the buttons longer, change rate the set data progressively increases. During
setup, you see the desired temperature, after about 3 seconds the display switches to the actual
temperature. Setting values can be saved in memory. At the same time are saved desired values for
all the regulators. The instrument can save two sets of values. For the memory control button is 1 2
LEDs in the button indicates the active memory. Switching memory and invoking save values is by
pressing the button 1 2. Long press (more than 5s), the set values are saved in the appropriate
memory. When you press the button, the LED goes out, saving is indicated by lighting up again.
After switching is recall settings saved in memory 1. Electronics instrument includes four
independent regulators. The first two are linked desired value (t1) and is used to regulate a column
space. Another two (t2 a t3) can be used for the regulation, or only for temperature measurement.
Controller inputs are adapted for platinum thermometer Pt 100, which are connected through
connectors on the rear panel (figure 2). The output of the first auxiliary regulator (t2) is a power 24V,
1A, and is connected to pins 1 and 2 with the four-pins connector on the rear panel (figure 2), this
regulator can heat only. The output of the second auxiliary regulator (t3) is TTL and is led out to the
7-pin connector on the rear panel
(figure 2). Connection of this connector is follows.

4.2 Routine maintenance and service
The instrument not require any maintenance. Cleaning all external surfaces of instrument shall be
performed with a soft cloth dampened with water. Can also be used common cleansers.
On the surface of instrument do not leave stain from corrosive substances. It would be a violation of
paint on the instrument. Clean the surface of the instrument with a soft clean cloth.
Warning: When cleaning with a damp cloth to remove the instrument from the power supply!
4.3 Troubleshooting
After switching on the instrument does not respond. Check the fuse, or replace with a new one with
the same parameters. Backlight button tx flashes. Turn off and turn on the power switch and than
again, turn on the appropriate button tx.
5.
ELECTRONICS
Pump electronic is formed as a compact unit, powered only by voltage for operation of the engine,
which is 24 V DC, 2,5 A. All electronics, except connection socket with fuse, power switch and
mode power supply is a safe voltage. All voltages for analog and digital functions are generated by
the switching power supply. The control unit consists of a plate Conner the keyboard, sensors,
peltiers and outputs.
The power supply designed for 230V supply voltage 110-130V must be requested in advance. In the
instrument is tube fuse values T1.6A (for 230V). To the correct value fuse take special attention!
6.
SOFTWARE
Software column thermostat LCT 5100 controls all functions, arranges interaction with the user
using keyboard and display communicates by RS 485 with other instruments targeted Gross,
including computers. Given to the performance a large number of time-consuming operations is
software stratified into the followings levels:
Commands received at the highest level included in the input queue, are decoded and executed
sequentially.
Also, the time orders are generated for interoperability with the other instruments and peripherals
assemblies of liquid chromatograph.
Level with the highest priority is reserved for communication with other devices assembly and with the
master computer. Senior computer can to use free software ChromuLan, or CLARITY. I case if for the
autosampler control is used CLARITY software from DataApex, is possible to include in the set
some instruments from the other manufacturers, which together with the software cooperate and than
is possible whole set of instruments to control and evaluace by one computer.

GUARANTEE
On the column thermostat manufacturer provides a warranty of two years from the date of delivery
of the product to the customer. The instrument may be used only as specified in this manual. The
manufacturer is not liable for damages arising from failure to comply with the conditions specified in
this manual.
The instrument is designed for an ambient temperature of 15 – 35°C, humidity to 80% without acid
and caustic vapors. The operator must be instructed on safety regulations and working with used
liquids. Power supply 230 V, 1 A, 50 Hz. The power cord plugs into the socket circuit fused by 10 or
16A.
Caution! In case the column temperature is higher than 40°C use when handling columns safety
gloves. When handling pay extra caution.
All warranty an post-warranty repairs are performed by the manufacturer, or its authorized
organization.
8.1 Waste management
After the end of life dispose the instrument according to valid regulations on waste or give back to
the distributor or to the manufacturer for disposal.
Caution: The instrument consists of (PCBs) that fall into the category of hazardous waste.
