The learner will:
The learner can:
1.0
Demonstrate the skills to plan a
live recording session.
1.1
Produce a recording plan describing:
a. repertoire or tracks to be recorded with
instrumentation and personnel;
b. accommodation
c. list of resources needed
d. schedule, date and timescale.
2.0
Use an audio recorder to
record a piece of music in a live
situation.
2.1
Create a multi-track (four track minimum) live
recording of an ensemble of at least four
musicians which meets the following
requirements:
a.
there should be at least four tracks;
b.
use of a variety of microphones for
different applications (e.g. vocal and
instrument);
c.
use of both ambient and close micing
techniques;
d.
use of sound screens/ acoustic panels to
diffuse reflections where appropriate;
e.
use of direct injection;
f.
use of input gain to avoid distortion and
excessive noise levels;
g.
application of EQ, pan and level to mix
the track
h.
use of effects (internal or external) on at
least one track;
i.
creation of a balanced two-track mix

This unit aims to develop learners’ skills in
effectively planning for and recording a live
performance which underpin the skills needed in
multitrack recording. The purpose of the unit is to
enhance the development multitrack recording skills
required to function effectively in a live
environment.
