Honda SensingTM
Highlighting Civic’s category-leading innovation is the Honda Sensing suite of safety
and driver-assistive technologies, standard on the Touring Coupe:
Honda Civic Sedan Model Shown
• Collision Mitigation Braking System™
(CMBS™)18 is designed to detect a possible
frontal collision and apply the brakes
automatically if it determines that a collision
is imminent, helping to mitigate the forces of
a possible collision.
Honda Civic Sedan Model Shown
• Lane Departure Warning (LDW)21 is
designed to monitor the Civic’s position
in a detected lane and alert the driver if it
begins to leave the lane without a turn signal

• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with
low-speed follow19 is designed to detect
vehicles ahead and use the throttle or brakes
to maintain a set following interval. And
if the vehicle detected ahead slows to a
complete stop, the system will stop the Civic
automatically. The driver then just needs
to tap the throttle or cruise-control RES/+
button to resume the system’s operation.
• Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)22 uses
a windshield-based camera to detect lane
markings, and can actually influence the
steering to help keep the Civic in the middle
of a detected lane.

• Forward Collision Warning (FCW)20 is
designed to detect the possibility of a frontal
collision and alert the driver visually and
audibly to apply the brakes.
• Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)23
uses the windshield-mounted camera to
identify the side of the road, and can alert the
driver with a warning message and steeringwheel vibration if the car is about to leave
the road. The system is designed to then use
the Electric Power Steering system to guide
the Civic back into its detected lane or apply
the brakes to keep it from leaving the road
Intercooled Turbocharging
The 2016 Civic EX-T, EX-L and Touring Sedan and Coupe models feature the first turbocharged engine in a Honda-badged vehicle in North America. Here are some things to
know about turbocharging—and the Honda of turbos:
• In basic terms, a turbine wheel placed
within the exhaust system is spun by the
flow of exhaust gases. That turbine drives a
shaft which in turn spins an air pump in the
intake tract.
• The increased pressure pushes more air
and fuel into the engine’s combustion
chamber, for a more powerful expansion
of the ignited air-fuel mixture and greater
power production.
• Compressing the air heats it, creating
less density of the oxygen needed for
combustion. So the heated air passes
through an intercooler, where its
temperature is reduced and an even more
dense concentration of oxygen is then
available for burning.
• The bottom line is an engine that produces
excellent horsepower and torque for
its size, providing extremely enjoyable
acceleration. Plus, fuel efficiency is
enhanced as well, for greater savings at the
• Amazing responsiveness is available
thanks to Honda’s use of a relatively small,
lightweight turbine wheel. There’s virtually
no “turbo lag,” a phenomenon that afflicts
many competitors’ turbo engines.
• Regular fuel is specified for the Civic’s
turbocharged engine, unlike many
competitors who recommend premium fuel
for theirs. That means lower fuel expenses.
Customization Domination
Coupe buyers tend to be more inclined to make a personal statement with their
vehicles than most others. So you can say with confidence that every 2016 Civic
Coupe offers its owner an opportunity to drive a genuinely unique car—when
they apply all these possible variations:
• Five trim levels: They include the LX, LX-P,
EX-T, EX-L and Touring coupes. Plus, the LX
offers a choice of two transmissions.
• Second skin: One of those Settings
opportunities allows buyers to change the
entire look of the Display Audio screen.
• Eight exterior colors: Your Coupe buyers
have a choice of Aegean Blue Metallic,
Crystal Black Pearl, Energy Green Pearl (a
2016 Civic Coupe exclusive), Lunar Silver
Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Rallye Red,
Taffeta White and White Orchid Pearl.
• Wallpaper: Owners can upload their very own
images to display as wallpaper on the audio
display—it doesn’t get any more personal than
• Customizable settings: Trying to compute
the number of unique combinations
possible via the Settings menus will melt
your calculator. Let’s just say they vastly
outnumber the world’s human population.
And they’ll let each owner tailor the
operation of several vehicle functions
precisely to their desires, including how the
doors automatically lock and unlock, where
the clock appears, the language in the
displays—and a whole lot more.
• Accessories: And you can offer your customers
a wide range of quality Honda accessories to
make their Civic Coupes truly distinct from a
mile away. The following section contains a
tempting sampler...

Civic Vs. the Competition
2016 Civic EX-T Coupe
vs. 2016 Kia Forte Koup SX 6AT
2016 Civic EX-T Coupe
vs. 2016 Scion tC 6AT
• Although the Kia has an edge in horsepower (201
vs. 174), it pays a tremendous price in EPA fueleconomy ratings. (See chart below)
• The Civic Coupe receives vastly better EPA fueleconomy ratings than the Scion tC. (See charts
• The Civic’s sophisticated multi-link rear
suspension provides a much higher degree of
handling precision and a more compliant ride
quality than the economy-oriented torsion-beam
setup on the Forte Koup.
• Although the tC has slightly more horsepower
than the Civic 1.5T models (179 vs. 174), it
also has more than 235 extra pounds to haul
around (3,124 vs. 2,889); the turbo Civic’s power
to weight ratio is much more favorable for
responsiveness (16.6 lbs/hp vs. 17.5).
• Apple CarPlay™10 and Android Auto™11 are
standard on Civic EX-T and above Coupes; they’re
not available on any Forte Koup.
• The Honda Sensing™ suite of safety and driverassistive features is standard on the Civic Touring
Coupe; no similar features are available on any
Forte Koup.
• No Forte Koup offers any similar feature to the
Civic Touring Coupe’s LED headlights or rainsensing windshield wipers.
• Even with tC’s $900 audio upgrade, the Scion
doesn’t offer the Civic EX-T Coupe’s standard
Apple CarPlayTM10 or Android Auto™11
• Every Civic Coupe is equipped with a standard
multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines4; no
camera of any kind is available on the tC
• The Civic Coupe has more interior room in almost
every dimension.
