On a hard, flat, stable, level surface
(±1° or less slant—a round pencil
should not roll in any direction).
Close to an easily accessible grounded
power supply (on an exclusively
dedicated power outlet) that meets
printer specifications; near your
computer; at the length 2 m (6.5 feet) or
less for an IEEE 1284 bidirectional

Antistatic Protection
Attention
It is extremely important to protect the printer from electrostatic damage
while all operations are being performed.
If you don’t have an antistatic wrist strap, discharge your body’s static
electric charge by touching a grounded surface before performing any
servicing operation.

Your printer weighs approximately 56.8 kg (125.2 lbs) with
consumables. Be sure to have help when lifting and moving it.

Unpacking the Printer

We strongly suggest that you save the packaging materials in case
you ever need to move or ship the printer.
Fold open the flaps at the top of the carton, and then remove the boxes
containing the toner cartridges, print units, and accessories.

Pull the carton up off the printer.

Remove the protective plastic cover from
the printer.
With another person’s help, lift the printer
from the carton.
Attention
Be sure to lift the printer by
correctly grasping its handles;
otherwise, the printer may be
damaged or fall.

For best output quality and longest consumables life, place the printer on
a hard, flat, level, stable surface.
Remove all tapes from the outside of the printer except the fuser
protection tag.

Slide out Tray 1 (the 250-sheet universal
media tray).
Attention
Be careful not to touch the media
pickup roller with your hands. If
you touch the roller, wipe it with a dry
cloth.

packing material from the media-lifting
plate.
Close Tray 1.
Slide out Tray 2 (the standard
500-sheet tray).

Pull up the right-side door release to
open the right-side door.
Attention
Do not touch the wire harness or connectors on the inside of the
right-side door, shown in the illustration. Otherwise, the electronic parts
of the printer may be damaged by static electricity from your body.

Lower the two fuser levers , and
then pull the tag to remove the
shipping brackets .

save the shipping brackets in
case you ever need to move or
ship the printer.

If the printer is not used (not turned on) for more than two weeks, lower the
fuser levers , and then reattach the shipping brackets to the fuser unit.
Move the two fuser levers back to their original positions .

Close the right side door with the tags on the
shipping brackets protruding from the door.
If the printer is to be used again, be sure to
remove the shipping brackets first.
If the shipping brackets are not available, you may also do the following:
Lower the fuser levers to their lowest positions , before closing the
right-side door. Before using the printer again, return the fuser levers to their
original positions.

Using both hands, open the front door.
Grab the handle on the cover of the
waste toner box and pull it toward
you to remove it.
We strongly suggest that
you save the cover in case
you ever need to move or
ship the printer.

With the front door still open, use your left hand to grab the handle of
the print units’ lock lever.
Use your right hand to support
the lever.
Pull the handle toward you to
release the lever.
Pull the left end of the lock
lever toward you to open it to
a 45° angle.
Attention
If the lock lever is opened
too far, it may accidentally
come off its shaft before
you’re ready to remove it.
Be careful not to drop the
lever.

Push the right end of the lock
lever toward the printer to
remove it from its shaft (),
and then pull the lever toward
you to remove it ().
Remove the yellow print unit
from its packaging.
Hold the left and right ends of the new
print unit, wrapped in the aluminum
pack, and then turn the print unit over
toward you (upside down).
Attention
Do not turn the print unit over to
the left or right. Otherwise, the
toner will be unevenly distributed
within the print unit.

Gently shake the print unit five or six
times to the left and right.
Turn the print unit over away from you.

Check “Operating Procedure” that
appears on the front of the
aluminum pack.
Open the aluminum pack, and then
remove the print unit from the pack.
Grab the print unit handle with your
left hand, and hold onto the knob with
your right hand.
Attention
Since the print unit is very sensitive to light, do not remove it from
its protective bag until immediately before installation. Be sure to
protect it from light and install it in the printer as soon as possible.

Be careful not to touch or damage the green surface of the OPC. If
you need to set the print unit on a flat surface, make sure it is not
resting on the OPC.
Do not touch the terminals on the print unit; otherwise, the
electronic parts of the print units may be damaged by static
electricity from your body.
Any damage resulting from mishandling of the print unit will void the
warranty of the print unit.

Check that the color of the print unit is
the same as the color indicated in
the print unit compartment.
The order of the print unit
compartments from right to left is
yellow, magenta, cyan, and black.

Insert the yellow print unit in the direction indicated by the arrow about
10 cm (4 inches) into the compartment.

Let go of the print unit handle, grab the knob, and then slowly slide the
print unit as far as possible into the printer.
Do not force the print unit.
Repeat steps 5–13 to install the print units for the other colors in the order:
magenta, cyan, and then black.

The print units are not secured until the lock lever is attached.

Make sure that all four positioning pins
on the print units enter the positioning
holes in the frame of the printer.
After the print units for the four colors
are installed, attach the print units’ lock
lever. Holding the lock lever with both
hands, hook the right end onto the shaft
, and then pull it toward you . Make
sure that the right end is secured onto
the shaft.

With your left hand, pull the handle
of the lock lever toward you, and
then insert the left end of the lock
lever into the holder in the printer.
Attention
The handle of the lock lever must be
pulled out before attaching the lock
lever. If you try attaching the lock lever
without first pulling out the handle, the
end of the lock lever cannot be correctly
inserted.

This printer is equipped with a lock lever
installation indicator that partially covers
the lock lever holder. The lock lever
installation indicator is designed so
that the lock lever holder is revealed
when the end of the lock lever is
inserted, indicating that the lock lever
has been correctly installed. It is not
necessary for the user to operate the
lock lever installation indicator.

Move the handle of the lock lever toward
the printer to secure the print units.

If the print units’ lock lever
and handle are not correctly
positioned, the front door cannot
be closed.
Peel off the tape securing the tab
of the yellow print unit upper
protective film , and then pull the
protective film straight out.
Repeat this for the other three
print units: magenta, cyan and
black.
Pull the yellow print unit lower
protective film straight out.
Repeat this for the other three
print units: magenta, cyan and
black.
Attention
Be careful not to drop any toner from the protective film onto your
hands and clothes while pulling out the film.
The toner is nontoxic. If you get toner on your hands, wash them in cool
water or a neutral detergent. If you get toner on your clothes, lightly
dust them off as much as possible. If some toner remains on your
clothes, use cool, not hot water, to rinse the toner off.

WARNING!
If toner gets in your eyes, immediately flush them with water, and then
seek medical attention. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) information
can be found at printer.konicaminolta.net/support (click on “Answer
Base”).
Installing the Toner Cartridges
Install the toner cartridges in the same color sequence as the print units (from
right to left: yellow, magenta, cyan, and black). Be careful not to spill toner
while installing a toner cartridge.

Remove the yellow toner cartridge from its packaging.
To loosen the toner inside the
cartridge, vigorously shake the
toner cartridge horizontally 10 or
more times.
Attention
Do not shake the toner cartridge vertically. Be careful not to hold the
toner cartridge by its shutter.

Next, to distribute the toner evenly
inside the cartridge, gently shake
the toner cartridge horizontally a
few more times.
Check the color of the label on the
printer, and then slowly and fully
insert the toner cartridge of the
same color into the compartment.
The arrow at the end of the toner
cartridge indicates the direction to
insert it.

Check that the lever at the top of the
toner cartridge is positioned up as
shown in the illustration .
If the lever is not positioned up , the
toner cartridge is not correctly
positioned. Install the toner cartridge
again.

Turn the knob on the toner cartridge
clockwise.
Check that the lock mark can be
seen in the window of the knob.

If the knob is not positioned
correctly, the front door cannot be
closed.
Repeat steps 1–6 to install the
remaining toner cartridges.
Slowly close the front door.
Loading Tray 1 (Universal Media Tray)
Tray 1 (the universal media tray) is used for all supported media types. Check
printer.konicaminolta.net/support (click on “Answer Base”) for currently
approved media. To order approved transparency media, go to
www.q-shop.com.
For information about loading different types of media, refer to “Using Media”
in the User’s Guide.
Attention
Do not mix media types/sizes in any media tray.

Squeeze both media guides to slide them to fit the media size to be
loaded.
For 311 x 457 mm (12.25 x 18 inch) media, adjust the trailing-edge media
guides .

Fan a stack of approximately 250
sheets of paper.

If the paper is curled, flatten it before loading it.
Align the edges of the paper, and then load it into the tray with its print
side up.

Output Tray
All media is output to the output tray on top of the printer. An OUTPUT FULL/
REMOVE MEDIA message appears in the message window when the
face-down output tray has reached its capacity.
Depending on the media type and the

Installing Accessories
Attention
Always turn off and unplug the printer while installing accessories.
If you purchased any additional printer accessories (such as an optional
lower feeder unit, duplex unit, or additional memory), then install them now. If
installation instructions are included with the accessory, follow them. If not,
instructions are included in the User’s Guide on the Documentation CD-ROM.
Plugging in/Turning on the Printer

Plug the printer power cord into the printer
and into a dedicated, grounded,
surge-protected electrical outlet.

Turn on the printer.
After approximately 100 seconds, READY/
MAGICOLOR 7300 appears in the message
window. A start page prints.
If READY/MAGICOLOR 7300 is not displayed
in the message window, recheck the setup.
Attention
Never turn off or unplug the printer while it is receiving data, printing, or
performing its automatic adjustments while it is in the Energy Saver
mode. Before turning off the printer, check that the printer is ‘IDLE’.
The printer automatically switches to power-saving (Energy Saver) mode
after 30 minutes of inactivity. You can change the number of minutes in the
SYS DEFAULT/ENERGY SAVER/SLEEP TIMER menu.

Parallel Port Use a Centronics IEEE 1284 bidirectional
parallel cable when connecting the parallel
port on the printer to the parallel port on
your computer.
USB Port Use a USB 1.1 cable (Type B) when
connecting the USB port on the printer to
the USB port on your computer.
Ethernet Port Use a twisted-pair (RJ45) Ethernet cable
when connecting the Ethernet port on the
printer to a 10BaseT/100BaseTX network
connection.

If you are connecting via parallel or USB, skip to Step 3. If you are
connecting via Ethernet, set your IP (Internet Protocol) address.
With DHCP—If your network supports DHCP (Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol), your IP address will be automatically assigned by
the DHCP server when you turn on your printer (refer to the Reference
Guide, in PDF on the Documentation CD-ROM).
Without DHCP—If you are not using DHCP, you may set the IP address
in one of two ways:

Insert the Software Utilities CD-ROM and follow the instructions on the
screen to install a printer driver and printer utilities. There are several
installation options, depending on your host environment.
Windows—Use the CD-ROM AutoInstaller for the easiest installation.
If you prefer to install a printer driver and utilities manually, refer to
“Software Installation” in the User’s Guide, in PDF on the
Documentation CD-ROM.
Windows NT does not support Plug & Play. When you see the
pop-up menu to select where to install the driver from, select
“Specify a Location.” Do not select “from CD-ROM” for the
driver location.
Macintosh—Use the Macintosh Installer on the CD-ROM to install a
PPD and other utilities.
If the installation cannot be performed, even after the CD-ROM
is specified, specify the location of the installer.

About the Control Panel
The control panel, located on the top of the printer, allows you to direct the
printer’s operation. In addition, it displays the current status of the printer,
including any condition that needs your attention.
Five indicators (LEDs) provide printer status information.
A message window displays status and configuration information.
Eight keys allow you to control the printer configuration through access to
frequently used printer functions.

When you receive your printer, the message window language is set to
English. However, status messages and configuration menus can be
displayed in the message window in English, Czech, French, German, Italian,
Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
If you want to change the message window language, use the following
