What is stereoscopy?
There are several ways to display 3D images in a planetarium, but the two most common ways are
Passive Stereo Visualization and Active Stereo Visualization.

Infitec Stereo Visualization
uses two projectors to display two images onto a screen. The images are projected with different colored filters. The audience wears glasses equipped with the same filters that allow each eye to see a separate image. The brain puts these two images together as one, resulting in
3D.
Active Stereo Visualization
systems present the left and right eyes images that are alternating so fast, the viewer doesn’t even notice. The audience wears active shutter glasses that have lenses which turn from opaque to transparent in unison with each alternating image. The left image is only displayed when the left lens is transparent (and the right one is opaque) and vice versa. The brain puts these two distinct images together as 3D.
3D Infitec Stereo
• 2 projectors (left + right) with color filters
• Glasses with left/right color filters
• 2 images projected on the dome at the same time
3D Active Stereo
• 1 projector working at 120 Hz
• Electronic glasses with infrared emitter
• 1 image projected on the dome alternating at 120 Hz

Hybridization & Synchronization
What is Hybridization?
Hybridization means that the two systems, optical and digital, work together in a total Synchronization so the customer can switch from one system to the other one in a transparent way, or can use both systems simultaneously to simulate Sun’s analemna or planets retrograde motion.
Hybridization has been possible thanks to close collaboration between RSA Cosmos and GOTO INC engineering team to allow to our customers, using just one manual console, to take control of both systems.
We can also do synchronization
If you have a non-GOTO opto-mechanical system and you want to combine it with a digital system, we can help you do that as well. RSA Cosmos has done just that for the planetarium of Brussels.
