OVER STAINS AND GAME LINE PAINTS
DRY TIME
For Stains: Ready to screen: 12 to 18 hours. Allow 24 hours dry time for light
traffic and at least 72 hours for heavy traffic and replacing furniture.
Humid conditions, cool temperature, lack of air flow, or finish coats
applied too thick, will increase the dry time required.
Allow stains to dry per manufacturer’s
directions or longer depending on
environmental conditions. Apply 2 coats
of a Basic Coatings’ Quick Dry Sealer and
2 coats Player’s Choice OMU of choice.
For Game Line Paints: Please refer to Basic Coatings’ Technical
Bulletin, Approved Game Line Paints and
Procedure, for proper application and a
current list of approved paints.
Note: A TEST BOARD IS RECOMMENDED WITH ANY STAIN/GAME
LINE PAINT TO INSURE COMPATIBILITY AND COLOR ACCEPTANCE.
SURFACE PREPARATION
1. 2. 3.
4. 5. For new installations, refer to NWFA/MFMA specifications
and accepted procedures for acclimation of the wood, floor
preparation, and sanding.
Before sanding, clean the floor using Basic Coatings’ Squeaky
Cleaner following label instructions. Cleaning should be done to
remove contaminants from the floor.
Sand floors using accepted NFWA/MFMA procedures. All old
finish must be removed. A NIOSH dust mask should be worn
during sanding.
Finish sanding with new 120-grit screens is recommended.
Vacuum. Tack the floor with 3-4 clean terry cloth tack towels
dampened with mineral spirits to remove all dust caused by the
sanding and screening process. Tack until no residue collects on
the towels. Allow the floor to dry with good ventilation.
FINISH APPLICATION
Always maintain adequate ventilation during all phases of the coating
and drying process.
1. Stir product well before application.
2. Using Basic Coatings’ Applicator or lamb’s wool applicator,
apply Player’s Choice OMU at the recommended coverage rate.
Apply with the grain.
3. Allow to dry, times will vary depending on conditions. Use air
blowers to dry corners and dead air spots thoroughly.
4. Abrade floor with new 150-180 grit screens or intercoat abrasion
strips is recommended.
5. Vacuum. Tack with 3-4 clean terry cloth tack towels dampened
with virgin mineral spirits to remove dust. Tack until no dust
residue collects on the towels. Allow the floor to dry with good
ventilation.
6. Apply second and third coat of finish in the same manner as
described above. Again, the use of air movers speeds the drying
process.
RECOATING PROCEDURES
DO NOT USE Player’s Choice One over waxed surfaces.
See Basic Coatings Technical Bulletin, Testing and Removal Procedure
for Acrylic Polish and Paste Wax.
1. Clean floor with Basic Coatings’ Squeaky Cleaner to remove all
grease, oil, dirt, and residue from other soaps or detergents.
2. Screen with new 120 grit screens or higher is recommended.
3. Vacuum. Tack with 3-4 clean terry cloth tack towels dampened
with virgin mineral spirits to remove dust. Tack until no dust
residue collects on the towels. Allow the floor to dry with good
ventilation.
4. Apply finish according to application procedures described
above.
DAILY MAINTENANCE
Do not use any liquid cleaners other than water for the first 2 weeks.
Use Basic Coatings’ Squeaky Cleaner as directed for routine cleaning
and maintenance once the 2-week window has passed. See Basic
