Advantages of Videologix
Video Analytics
Everyday, human beings recognize an extraordinary number of new and familiar
objects in various shapes, sizes, colors, and textures. What’s more, we have the
ability to recognize objects from different vantage points (front, side, and back). In
fact, with little effort, we can even recognize objects that are partially obstructed
from view.
- Taking traditional surveillance technology to the next level, i³’s VideoLogix software
is a biometric security solution designed for use in a variety of applications.
- VideoLogix utilizes state-of-the-art technology that allows the computer to
closely mimic the recognition abilities of a human being. Its built-in Human/Object
Recognition and Tracking System (HORTS) is a real-time recognition and tracking
system for video surveillance that offers a range of security solutions.
- One of the primary benefits of this software is that it is smart enough to know
the difference between harmless motion such as a tree swaying, and threatening
motions such as a person approaching a secure area.
Reduces CPU and Hard Drive Space Usage
Unfortunately, many related products on the market are limited by heavy CPU usage.
In order to increase CPU usage efficiency, VideoLogix uses YUV rather than RGB color
space, which allows CPU usage to dramatically decrease. What’s more, hard drive
storage is maximized because the technology first identifies the specific objects that
need to be recorded rather recording unthreatening objects or events unnecessary. This
results in an extremely efficient use of hard drive storage.
Performs Well in Varying Environments
The algorithms used by VideoLogix have been proven effective in a number of different
environments. Its background subtraction technique is highly effective even under
environment challenges such as moving cameras, shadows, or tree branches.
How The Technology Works
First, VideoLogix uses a background subtraction technique and specific filters such
as shadow filters to detect blobs. Next, the features such as shape, edge, color,
direction, and velocity are extracted and used to classify these blobs into the specific
categories of human, vehicle, or unknown object. Once this process is complete,
the classified objects are tracked under the assumption that the object will retain a
similar shape, color, edge, direction and velocity between successive frames. Finally,
the predefined events are detected and reported during the object tracking process.
Videologix motion detection technology works in the following five stages:
1. Background Subtraction: During this stage, the background is detected and
removed from the image.
2. Shadow Detection: During this stage, shadows are detected as part of the
foreground formation.
3. Foreground Segmentation: During this stage, objects and noises are distinguished
and separated from the foreground image.
4. Classification: During the classification stage, the detected objects are classified
as either humans, vehicles, or unknown objects.
5. Object Tracking: During this stage, objects that were detected in the
Classification stage are tracked to determine whether their behaviour corresponds
with any configured alarm settings. For example, the object is tracked to see if
it moves in a predefined direction, steps into a configured zone, or remains in the
same area for extended period of time.
Alarm triggers when one or more persons enter a predefined area
Reduces Number of Faulty Alarms
False alarms account for a significant percentage of all activated alarm calls, resulting
in an unnecessary waste of time and money. For this reason, being able to determine
whether something significant is happening is a fundamental benefit of intelligent
surveillance. VideoLogix is a highly intuitive technology that uses false detection
algorithms to tell the difference between a branch swaying in the breeze, for example,
and a person crossing a secured perimeter. The software actually learns from false
alarms, ensuring that the same mistakes are not repeated. As a result data generated
from the system is extremely reliable, boosting your business performance and reducing
your overall operating costs.
Mimics and Exceeds Monitoring Capabilities of Human
Security Guards
Hiring security guards to watch large amounts of video feeds can be cost-prohibitive
and ineffective as guards can’t always detect security threats on screen. VideoLogix
provides an unmatched security solution that never suffers from the fatigue or boredom
that often plagues human guards tasked with watching endless hours of video feed. By
doing much of the work of human security guards, VideoLogix allows to monitor a far
greater area without the cost and potential lapses associated with human guards.
Improves Search and Playback Capabilities
VideoLogix motion detection technology allows you to limit and qualify the categories of
searches you wish to perform. For example, you can specify that you wish to search for
a human being or automobiles only. In this way, playback becomes considerably more
efficient, and your time and resources can be put to better use.
Why BAM?
Business Activity Monitoring
Stores which rely only on traditional retail technology – entrance-monitoring and
point-of-sale systems – can track just two of these metrics: how many people
entered? how many transaction were performed? That information is useful but
it is also very thin: it doesn’t allow for analysis of customer behaviour. If a person
walks out without making a purchase, for example, is it because he could not find a
salesperson to assist him?
BAM is business intelligence software that parses and analyses the output of
existing store video systems and delivers the results in meaningful and easy-tounderstand charts and graphs. Managers and owners can then use that data to make
business decisions that will help increase revenue and decrease cost.
Rich Data
The BAM software works by analysing the movement of individual pixels and
masking out other elements of the images, thereby identifying moving objects
(people). A camera near the entrance can count the number of people entering and
leaving, while cameras in specific departments monitor traffic flow in those areas.
i³ International’s Video Surveillance Solutions brings forth only the best in stable
systems that go beyond your everyday business needs. Our units are equipped to
provide high quality video streams which can be conveniently viewed live and remotely
for purposes of deterring vandalism, theft prevention, and to ensure customer and
employee safety.
- Prevent shrinkage
- Achieve consistent services & sales
- Encourages productivity among employees
- Attain weekly, monthly, and yearly goals set out by corporation
- Facilitate customer centricity
- Understand customer behavior at a micro level
Implementing BAM
BAM works with existing analog or IP cameras, maximizing the investment stores have
made in these systems. The cameras are linked to a computer server which stores
the output in a digital format and makes it accessible to any authorized user, located
anywhere. This means managers and owners can monitor performance from the retail
floor or from a hotel room while travelling on business.
BAM is being used by North America’s largest retail chains but it is equally useful for
smaller one-location companies. A completely hosted solution starts at approximately 5
to 10 dollars per day.

These days, almost all retail stores employ video systems and almost all of that
video data is underutilized. Studies indicate that – at best – only one per cent of
video content is ever viewed or analyzed. There is often value in that one per cent
if, for example, it allows a thief to be identified, but companies could benefit from
greater use of this resource.

For most people, video security is about capturing incidences of theft on camera. i³’s
state-of-the art CCTV cameras provide the extra pair of eyes you need to monitor all
aspects of your retail business. While visible cameras deter theft by the mere fact
of their presence, hidden cameras let you monitor activities without making your
presence known. But a DVMS system equipped with PACDM™ software is more
than just a surveillance tool – it is a retail operations solution.
Designed for both small and large-scale retail applications, our PACDM™ software
takes traditional video surveillance to the next level. This new breed of analytical
software easily integrates with your;
- POS systems
- ATM machines
- Card Access systems
PACDM™ also acts as a data manager for Videologix™ and our Sentinel™ Licence
Plate Recognition software, additionally it allows you to collect critical data about
your operation 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
- Monitor multiple facilities remotely
- Access critical data from a single or multiple DVMS
- View single or multiple cameras from various facilities
- Web based PACDM allows you to generate customizable software graphs and
reports, even while watching live video surveillance feeds.
When travelling on business, you’ll have real-time data at your fingertips. The ability
to configure and administer your system remotely saves you valuable time and
money. PACDM™ affords you the luxury of being where you want to be and the
security of knowing you can monitor your business just as effectively.
Pinpoint Areas for Process Improvement
Remote monitoring of multiple store operations can be regarded as a security matter,
but it can also be viewed as an issue of productivity.
There are many ways in which PACDM™ running on an i³ DVR server with
VideoLogix™ can pinpoint areas of your business for efficiency improvement. For
example:
- Monitor customer wait times
- Examine high and low traffic periods and zones
- Analyze staffing requirements, and
- Monitor floor inventory
By performing custom search queries, PACDM™ conducts thorough trend analysis
to improve process flow. Use its powerful features to identify high and low traffic
times, correct overstaffing and understaffing issues, and train your staff to provide
superior customer service.

Reduce External and Internal Threats to Your
Business premises
PACDM™ sends out an alert to the people, who need to know. If one of your cash
registers is open for an extended period of time, for example, or an unauthorized
vehicle is parked in one of your monitored areas, PACDM™ instantly notifies you of
the potential issue. This ensures that you no longer have to rely on second or third
party information to stay up-to-date. As an intelligent monitoring tool, PACDM™ is a
critical part of staying informed of your day-to-day business operations.
In retail, there is nothing more vulnerable than your cash register, and inventory
shrinkage isn’t always the result of an outside threat. Rather, it is due to internal
theft from “sweethearting” – employees who ring in unauthorized discounts or aid in
shoplifting.

Imagine being able to view all of your store operations at one time, from virtually
any location. PACDM™’s Remote Viewing Technology coupled with its latest add-on,
Web PACDM™, allows you to do just that. Web PACDM™ lets you view and access
data from multiple video and data sources. While it features all the standard benefits
of our DVMS-based application, it uses a unique web-based server database to store
critical data and transactional information. Because it is a web-based solution,
you are no longer restricted to client server access. All you need is remote access
[of Tedious Video Review]
With PACDM™ running on an i³ DVR server you can instantly pinpoint the exact
location of critical events and inconsistencies in your data. This capability makes
PACDM™ one of the most valuable timesaving tools on the market. Now you can
monitor your staff and transactions without having to sift through tedious hours of
recorded video. Put quite simply, PACDM™ eliminates the need to rely on others for
the information you need to make informed business decisions.
Rely on Perfect Digital [ Video Quality ]
At any time, you may be called upon to provide proof of who sold what, to whom,
at what time, and for what price. You may also be required to address liability
claims and customer complaints. To meet the burden of proof, your evidence must
stand beyond a reasonable doubt. Irrefutable proof leaves no room for blurred and
distorted images. In addition, date and time stamping must be accurate down to the
millisecond. PACDM™ delivers all of these criteria, producing evidential quality video
you can rely on every time.

of the gasoline, but also the profit that the sale would have generated. What’s more,
many gas stations are also convenience stores that sell food, cigarettes, beverages,
lottery tickets, motor oil, and auto parts, among other merchandise.
Gas stations are built for the ease and convenience of customers. Therefore, proposed
solutions like pre-pay policies are ineffective because they take away the convenience
of being able to browse and shop in gas station stores, greatly reducing owner profits.
To offset the negative side-effect of pre-pay policies, the petroleum and C-store
industry has begun to take advantage of license plate recognition technology.
License Plate Recognition
Sentinel LPR software offers the tremendous benefit of a ‘time window’ in the review
of drive-offs. Automated time stamping reduces the number of hours required to review
suspected losses and improves the system’s capacity to gather accurate, reliable
information, which can be used as evidence by local law enforcement.
The i³ Sentinel License Plate Recognition (LPR) is a surveillance method that uses
optical character recognition (OCR) on images to read licence plates on vehicles.
Using CCTV cameras and a special recognition algorithm, LPR software captures and
identifies licence plate text in real time and with minimal latency.
Benefits of a Software-Based Solution
The growing list of applications & environments for our Sentinel license plate
recognition software includes:
Parking management, Law Enforcement, Border control, Tollbooth monitoring,
Access control, Traffic analysis, Marinas, Theme Parks, Inventory Control,
Construction Sites, Hotels, Airports, Shipping/ Container Areas.

Unlike many other LPR solutions on the market, i³’s LPR technology is software, rather
than camera-based. In addition to capturing and identifying licence plates, the software
technology offers superior capabilities of storage and retrieval. In other words, all of
that valuable license plate information can be stored on a searchable database for later
use and analysis. The software runs on approved PC hardware, is extremely easy to
use it is reliable, and can be linked to other applications or databases.

www.i³ international.com
Sentinel is a highly specialized, image-processing software allows the computer
to read photographs of vehicle licence plates taken by video surveillance cameras.
The cameras focus on the vehicle plates and, in a matter of seconds, the software
extracts, reads, and records the series of numbers and letters imprinted on the plate.
Computer Vision Technology (CVT) is a new and rapidly growing field. While the
process of converting digital images of vehicle plates into electronic text is extremely
complex, it can be summarized in a few steps. First, CCTV cameras capture images
of the vehicle.
From that point, the software begins the following processes:
- Plate Localization
- Plate Extraction
- Character Transformation
- Character Segmentation
- Character Interpretation
Identifies precise location of licence plate
Extracts image of plate from background
Transforms license plate into standardized format
Separates individual characters from each other
Invokes special algorithm to “read” entire plate
Storage
Petroleum and C-Store Industry Applications
With the rising cost of gasoline, incidents of drive-offs are escalating at self-service
stations across North America. More than a costly annoyance, they’ve become a
potentially dangerous problem, so that simply training cashiers to get license plate
numbers as “best they can” is no longer a safe or effective option.
When customers drive away without paying, the owner loses not only the cost price

- Software-based system for trouble-free storage and quick retrieval
- High recognition confidence

6 recognition speed
- Recognizes all vehicle types in less than one second
- Marks entrance and exit time of vehicles
- Adjustable to full or partial plate recognition
- Activates alarm when unauthorized plates are detected
- User-friendly -- system requires minimal setup
Why Use an LPR System from i³ International?
To find and prosecute motorists who drive away without paying, you need a clear,
unobstructed photo of their license plate. Whenever a vehicle enters into a facility,
i³’s powerful software captures plate images at a rate of up to 30 frames per second
before isolating the best picture. It then uses optical character recognition to extract
the alphanumeric characters of the plate and places them into a searchable database.
Once exception is incorporated into the database, the system can send out an alert
whenever unauthorized plates enter the facility.

IP VIDEO
SOLUTIONS
IP Video Solutions
A video encoder digitizes analog video signals and sends digital images directly
over an IP network, such as a LAN, intranet or Internet. It essentially turns an
analog video camera into a network video camera and enables users to view live
images using a Web browser or a remote video client on any local or remote
computer on a network. i³ video encoders make it possible to move towards a
network-based video system without having to discard existing analog equipment.
Users can connect to any analog camera, digitize the images and send them over
an IP network, using analog cameras to take advantage of many of the same
benefits provided by network cameras.

Application & Benefits
With the Annexxus series of encoders, i³ International is the first security company to use an internal
SATA drive in an IP video encoder. This innovative idea is a very cost effective way of providing
redundancy and is an effective solution for data back-up in a NVR environment.
By using the Ax316 a conventional Network Video Recorder (NVR) method of redundancy servers is
no longer needed, thereby reducing substantial cost to the system. With video being locally stored on
the Ax316, storage loss can be avoided when the network is down. Simultaneously the Ax316
encoder can be used as an IP Network video appliance for transmitting video over the LAN to i³ Digital
Video Management Software (DVMS) software.
The Ax316 storage capabilities, enable it to function as a conventional DVR as well as a high-quality
video streaming encoder. Dual-streaming provides two independent streams per video input, allowing
viewing and recording at two different quality levels to save disk space and bandwidth.
Internal view
The Ax316 can transmit full-motion video at 30 fps (NTSC) or 25 fps (PAL). For the highest
performance, full 4CIF resolution is available at 7.5 fps for all channels.
For high-performance, multi-channel surveillance over IP data networks, the Ax316 is a unique
multi-channel encoder that can aid the transition from analog video to IP video at the best possible
cost with little concern of video storage loss.

Application & Benefits
Application & Benefits
The i3416U wide dynamic range (WDR) dome uses 560 TVL lines of resolution
and a pixel-by-pixel shutter speed that lets you see better in areas, where both
very bright and dark areas exist, such as an entranceway. Night mode improves
performance in low light situations, automatically switching from color mode
to monochrome as light dims, and reverting back to color mode once light is
restored.
The i3F417U Domes are the ideal choice for applications requiring 560 TVL
to provide high resolution images and accurate color rendition. This camera
incorporates 1/3” SONY Super-HAD IT CCD Chip technology. For scenes with
typical lighting such as daylight or lit, indoor applications, this camera provides
560 TVL high resolution images. This camera produces a much more distinct
image as signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio is dramatically reduced with higher sensitivity;
due to an increased lux sensitivity. Cameras are available in NTSC or PAL formats
and are provided in IP67-rated, vandal resistant housings to meet a variety of
installation requirements.
Built with a vandal resistant, rust-proof aluminum housing, this camera is rated
at IP67. The i3416U model incorporates a 560TVL Pixim CMOS Chip technology
with a built in UTP and is a cost effective and reliable solution to your
demanding surveillance and security needs. This WDR dome has a digital Noise
Reduction feature which helps conserve valuable hard drive space, reducing
the size of video files by up to 30% when used with an SRX-Pro digital video
management system.

The EA24A6-P9 will provide the power output
needed for most i3 series cameras. This
power supply series comes with PTC (Positive
Temperature Coefficient) for each camera
power output. PTC is a resettable fuse. As the
temperature rises, nearing danger levels, the
resistance increases, so less current flows,
thereby protecting the vulnerable equipment
that receives the current flow. Therefore, the
EA24A6-P9 provides a high degree of protection
for your investment.
