OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW
The picasso
TM
104-3C is a high-performance ‘plug and play’ PC-card for the PC/104-plus bus.
It enables each standard PC/104-plus system to capture and store single images for image processing or full-frame display of real-time video in a window (30 frames/sec).
The picasso
TM
104-3C operates as a PC/104-plus bus master, allowing it to transfer images directly to the system or VGA memory without impacting the processor.
TM
The picasso 104-3C has one analog RGB input with separate sync inputs. Sync is also accepted on one of the color inputs. The video input is software controlled and accepts both standard and non-standard video signals. Progressive scan and line scan video formats are optionally supported. The grabber is also designed as a triple channel 8-bit digitizer for monochrome video (three synchronized B&W cameras).

FEATURES
n
32-bit PC/104-plus interface, 3.3V or 5V I/O compatible
The
picasso TM
is a full PC/104-plus 1.1 “compliant” bus master with a transfer rate up to 132 Mbytes/sec. This allows the bus master to transfer up to 30 frames/sec. Support of zero wait state burst transfers.
n
RGB colour/multiple monochrome video inputs
One RGB camera or 3 synchronised monochrome video inputs, selected by software.
n
Resolution
24 bit color levels for 3 component video acquisition. Standard square pixel format with 768/640 active pixels resolution per frame. NTSC, PAL, SECAM, interlaced or progressive scan.
The maximum sample frequency is 20MHz.
n
RS-170 CCIR 601 level-compatible
n
Square pixel – 1:1 aspect ratio
n
Memory
Memory Management Unit (MMU) supports Virtual Memory up to 4
Mbytes/DMA channel.
n
Data Formats
RGB digital Video can be stored in several formats (RGB565, RGB
α
555,
RGB55
α
5, RGB24) in system memory or the displays adapter frame buffer.
n
Optional single power supply, 5 V.
Ask ARVOO support for more information.
n
Two digital inputs and two digital outputs
The
picasso TM
has two digital inputs and outputs. These TTL compatible I/O
(non-isolated) are software controlled and can be used for external events such as light switching and camera triggering. The inputs can be programmed as interrupt for fast input reaction time.

User Manual
1. GETTING STARTED
1.1 Hardware Requirements
The following minimum system characteristics are required by the
picasso TM
framegrabber.
n
IBM PC or compatible with Pentium 266MHz (or better).
n
One available position for a PC/104-plus version 1.1 bus master stackthrough add-on module
(32-bits, 3.3V or 5V I/O). The maximum configuration for a PC/104-plus system is 4 add-on modules on a host board.
n
32 Mbytes of DRAM.
n
PC/104-plus (or onboard PCI) or AGP compliant VGA board, with 2 Mbytes linear accessible frame buffer (supporting one or more of the colour space formats supported by the
picasso TM
framegrabber).
n
A mouse or compatible pointing device.
n
CD-ROM drive for installation.
ARVOO recommends only motherboards that are equiped with modern PCI-chipsets, good test results have been found with e.g. the Intel 440BX, i810, i815 or i820 chipsets.
1.2 Installing the picasso TM
1. If standard PC/104 modules are used in the stack, they must be the top module(s) because they standard not include the PC/104-plus connector [see Figure 1]. Because the picasso
TM
is compatible with 5V or 3.3V I/O signal levels, both KEY pins are implemented. Universal boards (5V or 3.3V) must be located at the top of the stack.
2. Before handling the board, discharge any static build up on your body by touching the metal case of the computer. Remove the board from its bag and hold the picasso
TM
by its top edges and do not touch its components.
3. When the bottom of the stackthrough connector contacts the top of the other stackthrough bus connector, gently press down on the board until it is fully seated. Secure the board.
4. Select the correct module using JP1 and JP2 [see Table 1].
5. Connection of the video signal to the picasso
TM
is accomplished using standard SMC connectors.

1.3.1 Video sources
The
picasso
TM
104-3C accepts one RGB/YUV colour video source or three locked B&W monochrome video sources. The selection of the different video inputs is software controlled.
The green LED D3 [see Figure 2] indicates locking of the frame grabber on an incoming video signal.
When the green LED is flashing it indicates an error condition:
- Video input signal doesn’t contain sync timing.
- Wrong selection of video standard (PAL instead of NTSC).
- Wrong selection of sync input (sync on red instead of sync on green)
When the green LED doesn’t light-up at all, it indicates:
- No video or sync signal.
- Wrong video input-port selected (Y2 instead of Y1).

Table 2 shows connection of the video sources to the SMC connectors. Two modes can be distinguished: the RGB mode and the Y-mode. (1) In the RGB mode one multiple component video source is accepted (RGB or YUV e.g.). (2) In the Y-mode upto three locked monochrome video sources are accepted.
The Composite SYNC OUT pin is TTL compatible and re-outputs the Composite SYNC IN
(also when SYNC on component [green, red or blue] is selected) and can be used for camera synchronisation.

1.3.2 General Purpose Input /Output connector
The General Purpose Inputs and Outputs are connected to the
picasso TM
by a male header.
In Figure 3 you see a drawing of the 2X5 pins header (2,54 mm pitch).
The pin connections are listed in Table 3. Warning: These I/Os are non-isolated.
