System Sensor BEAM 1224, 1224S smoke detector Installation and Maintenance Instructions

Below you will find brief information for smoke detector BEAM 1224S, smoke detector BEAM 1224. These models are designed for providing open area protection in large spaces with high ceilings. Beam 1224 and 1224S are equipped with a microcontroller that monitors signal strength and updates the alarm and trouble thresholds. The detector has a red LED for alarm, a yellow LED for trouble, and a green LED blinking for standby operation. It can be tested remotely and has a local test button. The sensitivity of the detector can be set in 6 levels.

Frequently asked questions

The alignment procedure involves both coarse and fine adjustments. You need to look through the alignment mirror and find the reflector. Adjust the horizontal and vertical alignment wheels until the reflector is centered in the mirror. Then, depress the alignment switch and adjust the horizontal and vertical adjustment knobs until you reach the peak value, confirmed by the decreasing number on the digital display. Finally, depress the alignment button to save the settings.

You can test sensitivity using an opaque material to cover the reflector by an amount indicated on the graduated scale on the reflector. The detector should not alarm or fault when the material is placed at the obscuration level that is 10 less than the detector's setting. It should alarm within 1 minute when the material is placed at the level that is 10 more than the setting.

The detector is suited for environments with high ceilings, dusty and dirty environments, or environments that experience temperature extremes. However, it's not suitable for locations where heavy condensation or icing is likely, or where the detector, reflector, or optical pathway is exposed to outdoor conditions like rain, snow, sleet, or fog.
