Title: Multi-Skill Cook
Salary Schedule Range: 30
Purpose of Position: Under direction, participate in large-scale food production at a school site,
catering operation, mobile café, contract or satellite location.
Reporting: Reports to the Director of Food Service or other management level supervisor
Employment Status: Full-time (FLSA Non-Exempt)
Location: Production Kitchen, Mobile café, or on-site catering
Essential Functions:
Play a lead role in planning and executing large scale preparation of entrees, sandwiches, salads,
vegetables, soups, sauces, beverages and dressings.
Determine appropriate quantity of food items for cooking and baking; measure and weigh ingredients;
calculate, adjust and extend recipes; maintain high food quality standards including appearance and
nutritional requirements.
Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold menu items; observe quality and quantity of food served
according to established guidelines; assure proper temperature of foods; assure compliance with safety
and sanitation requirements.
Mix, slice, grate and chop food items using a variety of implements or machines.
Operate standard food service equipment such as slicers, warmers, ovens, grills, fryers, stoves and
carts.
Operate a mobile café or catering vehicle.
Stock condiments, food items and paper goods; assist in the ordering, storage and rotation of supplies
in storage areas; assist with daily and periodic inventories as assigned.
Maintain fixed or mobile food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition;
clean spills in a timely manner to assure a safe and sanitary work environment; wash trays, pots, pans,
plates, utensils and other serving equipment; clean and sanitize serving counters, tables, chairs, and
food containers.
Perform routine cashiering duties utilizing a Point of Sale (POS) system; count money and make
correct change; assist with reconciling and accounting for meals and collected monies.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Food service environment. Subject to heat from grills, stovetops and ovens. Exposure to hot foods,
liquids, equipment and metal objects; working around knives, slicers or other sharp objects; exposure to
cleaning chemicals and fumes. Some travel between District schools and facilities when operating a
mobile café.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety
of documents; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; walking; dexterity of hands and fingers to
operate equipment; intermittent bending, stooping or reaching overhead to retrieve or store materials;
occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of moderately heavy equipment or objects; driving a
vehicle to conduct business activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures of large volume food production.
Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices related to handling, cooking, baking and serving food.
Knowledge of portion control techniques, recipes, and appropriate substitutions.
Knowledge of basic math, cashiering and money handling techniques.
Ability to operate a variety of food service equipment, including slicers, warmers, ovens, grills, fryers,
stoves and carts.
Ability to drive and operate a mobile café.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
Education, Training and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the
knowledge and abilities listed above. Typically, this combination is gained through graduation from high
school and three (3) years of experience in the food service or hospitality industry
