WHAT IS
SOLAR
PV ?
Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight directly to electricity that can be
stored in a battery or fed back into the utility grid (i.e. PLN). They work
anytime the sun is shining, but more electricity is produced when the
sunlight is more intense. PV allows you to produce electricity— without noise
or air pollution—from a clean, renewable resource.
The basic building block of PV technology is the solar “cell.” Multiple PV cells are connected to form a PV “module”.
Modules range in power output from about 10 watts to 300 watts. A PV system connected or “tied” to the utility grid
has these components:
• One or more PV modules, which are connected to an inverter
• The inverter, which converts the system's direct-current (DC) electricity to alternating current (AC)
• Batteries (optional) to provide energy storage or backup power in case of a
alternating current (AC) power interruption or outage on the grid.
What is the difference between solar PV and solar thermal?
Unlike solar thermal systems for heating water, PV does not use the sun’s heat to make electricity. Instead, electrons
freed by the interaction of sunlight with semiconductor materials in PV cells are captured in an electric current.
Why should you invest in a PV system?
People decide to invest in PV systems for a variety of reasons. Some people want to help preserve the Earth's finite
fossil-fuel resources and reduce air pollution. Others want to invest in an energy-producing improvement to their
property. Some people like the security of reducing the amount of electricity they buy from their utility because it
makes them less vulnerable to future price increases. And some people just appreciate the independence that
a PV system provides.

Polycrystalline panels are made up from the silicon offcuts, moulded to form blocks and create a cell made up of
several bits of pure crystal and it is identifieable by its signature light or dark blue colour, but not uniformly some
patches are lighter than others. The differences in appearance come about as a result of the manufacturing process.
However, this mis-alignment can help in some circumstances, because the cells work better from light at all angles,
in low light, etc.

Solar Charge Controller berfungsi untuk mengatur energi yang masuk (charge) dan keluar (discharge).
Laju pengisian baterai dari input Photovoltaic Array dapat dikontrol sehingga tidak akan terjadi over
charge yang dapat mengakibatkan kerusakan pada baterai. Demikian juga sebaliknya, apabila energi
yang tersisa pada baterai telah mencapai batas minimum, maka secara otomatis SCR akan memutus
penyaluran energi ke beban (pengguna). Untuk pemakaian di Solar Home System (SHS), PJU tenaga
surya, off-grid, PLTS terpusat/komunal, PV hybrid system.

ABOUT GRID-TIED PV SYSTEM
WHAT IS SOLAR PV GRID-TIED SYSTEM?
A solar PV grid-tied system is used to convert sunlight directly into electricity that
can power your homes and workplace. The grid-tied system consists of only two
main components: solar panels and the grid-tied PV inverter.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Grid-tied PV system is ideal for businesses and homeowners that want to reduce
electricity cost and save money. It is especially suitable for homes and businesses
that experience peak load during daytime.
HOW DOES GRID-TIED SYSTEM WORKS?
An array of solar panels installed on the rooftop, directly converts sunlight into DC
power, and the DC power is then converted into AC power using a solar grid-tied
inverter. The AC power produced by the grid-tied inverter is synchronized with
power from the grid (i.e. PLN, 220Vac). When the power generated by sunlight
exceeds current load usage, you may sell power back to the grid (i.e. PLN).

combines the best of both worlds: Combining energy storage with a grid connection to your

An advantage of hybrid systems is that they are able to control and balance the available
sources of energy:
If the power generated by a solar array is insufficient to supply daytime loads as well as charge
your batteries, the system can recharge your batteries from the grid when a lower off-peak
electricity rate is available.
When your electricity usage goes above a certain level, electricity companies may charge you at
a higher rate for this increased level of demand. Hybrid systems can provide ‘peak lopping’
where some stored power can be drawn from the batteries to help balance the power usage.
‘Grid support’ can also be provided by your hybrid system if your grid connection does not have
the capacity to supply a load. The hybrid system could supply the extra power. And this may
allow you to avoid a costly mains upgrade to your property.
