Safety

Apart from the information of this manual all general safety and accident prevention regulations of the legislator must be taken into account.

The device must only be used by trained persons. The setting-up and installation must only be executed according to the manufacturer’s data.

Intended Use

The device must only be used for its intended applications. Technical modifications and any misuse are prohibited because of the risks involved!

ALGE-TIMING is not liable for damages that are caused by improper use or incorrect operation.

Power supply

The stated voltage on the type plate must correspond to voltage of the power source. Check all connections and plugs before usage. Damaged connection wires must be replaced immediately by an authorized electrician. The device must only be connected to an electric supply that has been installed by an electrician according to IEC 60364-1. Never touch the mains plug with wet hands! Never touch live parts!

Cleaning

Please clean the outside of the device only with a smooth cloth. Detergents can cause damage. Never submerge in water, never open or clean with wet cloth. The cleaning must not be carried out by hose or high-pressure (risk of short circuits or other damage).

1 Device description

The

ALGE Photocell Adapter LA5 is used if you have big distances between the photocell and the timing device. For the LA5 you need only a two core cable. At the LA5 you can e.g. connect a impulse device (e.g. photocell). The LA5 has also an integrated speech amplifier that allows to communicate with the operator of the timing device.

2 Batteries

The LA5 has 6 Baby batteries to run the internal speech amplifier and to supply external impulse devices (e.g. photocell).

For the LA5 you need 6 pieces Alkaline Batteries, C-Type (Baby), 1.5 V

Low Batteries:

If the battery level is low the LED (2) will start to blink (red blinking light) and at the same time you will hear a beep. The low level warning is activated if the battery voltage is below 6.3

VDC.

To change the batteries open the four screws on the top of the cover. Please insert the batteries with the right polarity as shown on the sketch in the battery compartment.

3 Function

The LA5 has different functions. The function you can select with the rotation switch (3).

3.1 Position 0 – off

If the rotation switch (3) is on this position 0 – off, than the LA5 is switched off. If you do not use the LA5 put it on this position, otherwise the battery will be empty when needed next time.

3.2 Position 1 - headphone

If the rotation switch (3) is on position 1- headset, it will allow you to talk through the headset.

The timing function is not activated.

3.3 Position 2 - photocell

If the rotation switch (3) is on position 2 – photocell, it will allow you to talk through the headset. The timing function is now activated. If you want to switch the impulse function of the trigger device (e.g. photocell) off, than press the internal push button (10) or a external push button connected to banana plug (9).

3.4 Position 3 – photocell with push button

If the rotation switch (3) is on position 3 – photocell with push button, it will allow you to talk through the headset. The timing function is now only activated if you press the push button. If you want to switch the impulse function of the trigger device (e.g. photocell) on, than press the internal push button (10) or a external push button connected to banana plug (9).

4 Headset

It is possible to connect a headset from ALGE. The speech amplifier is built into the LA5. If you have on the other side of the cable connected to “line” (8) a timing device with a headset, than you can communicate. The impulse transmission and the speech transmission is on the same cable.

5 Impulse Connectors

At the LA5 you can connect different impulse devices. To connect impulse devices we have a DIN-connector (5) and two banana connectors (6 + 7).

The most common will be an ALGE photocell. If using an ALGE photocell you can use the

DIN-connector and supply the photocell direct from the LA5.
