For convenience, comfort and safety, our thermostats
feature Grohe TurboStat® technology. We’ve increased
the sensitivity of the thermo element and restructured the
internal waterways. As a result, our new thermostats react

Monobloc basin mixers
are available in two styles:
one-hand mixer – where
water flow and temperature
are operated together by
one lever; and dual lever –
hot and cold water are
controlled independently.
Three-hole basin mixer
This set-up comprises two
faucets and a central spout
and is sometimes known
as a two-hand centro set.
They can be either deckor wall-mounted.
Pillar faucets
These tend to be associated
with traditional-style faucets.
The hot and cold water
don’t meet until they reach
the basin.
Bath/shower mixer
Hot and cold water are
mixed in one single unit,
a diverter valve allow the
water to be used for both

Grohe SilkMove® is an interactive

The cartridge is the nerve centre of
every faucet and where the ceramic
discs are located. The lever handle of
the faucet is connected to the discs
by a shaft – Grohe uses solid brass
for strength and durability. As the
discs move over each other, they
either block the water or allow it to
pass through. Therefore the quality
and machining of these parts will
affect the performance of the your
faucet.
Grohe is one of the world’s leading
faucet manufacturers and one of
the few that manufacture their own
cartridges. Our cartridges are
manufactured in a high-tech process
and feature discs made from a
space-proven ceramic alloy. The
polished mirror-like surface of the
discs is then coated with a special
Teflon lubricant for frictionless
operation. And because our faucets
are designed withstand years of use,
we incorporate micro-chambers of
this lubricant within the cartridge –
for a lifetime of maintenancefree

Before you start planning your custom
shower there are a few important
things you should consider to ensure
your new shower will work efficiently
and be a pleasure to use.
How many showers
can I combine?
Grohe's extensive range of products
can all be combined in numerous
ways to make your custom shower. Do
you require one or two handshowers?
How many side jets would you like,
and where do you want to position
them? Perhaps you would prefer one
large overhead shower surrounded by
lots of body jets. The combinations
are endless. Two restrictions are your
water pressure and the maximum flow
rate of the thermostat – your Grohe
advisor will be able to help you add
up the flow rates of each individual
shower piece and check that the total
does not exceed the maximum
capacity of the thermostatic valve.
Which thermostat
should I choose?
You should always use a Grohe
thermostatic valve, for a safe and
comfortable shower. Again, a Grohe
repre-sentative can advise you on the
best model to suit your requirements.
What about the drain?
It may seem obvious, but the more
water your shower produces the larger
the drain required. It could be that
you'll need two drains to cope with
the amount of water that needs to be
carried away.
Will I have enough
hot water?
This is determined by the capacity of
your hot water tank. Check that your
tank is big enough to handle the
amount of hot water you'll need. There
is no point in having a large number
of water outlets if there's nothing but
cold water after a couple of minutes.
Make sure your water heater output is
sufficiently matched to your showering
habits.
How do I control
all the outlets?
Custom showers are generally
designed with separate volume
(on/off) controls for each outlet or
bank of outlets. Typically, one for the
headshower, one for the handshower
and one for the body jets.

For decades the architectural
significance of Haus Heusgen
remained a well-kept secret.
Until recently, when its
current owner, architect Karl
Amendt, revealed the iconic
status of the building.
Built in the 1930s, Haus
Heusgen was designed by
architect Ludwig Mies van
der Rohe for the Huesgen
family of textile industrialists.
Following the death of the
industrialist’s son, Amendt
purchased the house and
decided to give it a complete
overhaul, before opening it
to the public.
“To me, it was very
important to renovate Haus
Heusgen in the sense of
Mies van der Rohe. We
were able to recondition
a lot of the original items;
however, I had to replace
the bathroom fittings,”
explains Amendt. “The Atrio
two-handle mixer from
Grohe fits in perfectly. It
reflects the essential design
elements of Bauhaus
architecture, as if it had
been designed especially
for this ambience.”
