Goals and Objectives
The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for both developing and maintaining consistent
messages and communication that supports the mission of the Food Bank for Westchester creating visibility
and promotion for events and existing operations and in ways that enhance potential for organizational growth.
Required Education/ Experience

A minimum of a 4 year college degree (BA) preferably in communications or a related discipline.
Three to five years of experience in a related position preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
A demonstrated interest in social issues.
Strategic planning skills and experience developing PR and integrated marketing campaigns with
strategies and tactics connected to tangible metrics and outcomes.
A track record of results in project management using strong writing and creativity.
Success in performing effectively in a fast paced work environment.
Required Knowledge/Skills

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with a track record of excellence in writing and
editing marketing and other organizational communications materials.
Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to gain proficiency in donor
database.
The ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
Extremely organized detail oriented and able to manage multiple stakeholders both internally and
externally.
Ability to act in an entrepreneurial fashion taking initiative, being responsive to new opportunities and
create value in the face of obstacles and act collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
Essential Functions
The Marketing and Communications Manager has the primary duty of developing and implementing
communications strategies that promote the organization’s mission and key messages to generate publicity,
visibility and attract and retain supporters.
This primary duty includes the following essential functions:

Develop marketing communications strategy and associated timeline.
a. Manage Food Bank communications and outreach calendar.

Oversee and coordinate outcomes as staff contact with external public relations company to
promote all events and programs for the Food Bank including press releases, slide shows,
photography and other materials.
Create and edit copy for communications that includes newsletters, press releases, event materials
and other items that represent the Food Bank.
Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts.
Manage all social media sites including website, Facebook and Twitter.
Work with Food Bank operations and field staff to identify content for use in communications
including social media.
Work collaboratively with Development team to maintain effective “e-commerce” functions of
website.
Manage and implement a style guide for brand consistency throughout the Food Bank.
a. Act as traffic manager for annual report and event materials to ensure consistency with Food
Bank style and message.
b. Create and ensure consistency of all Food Bank materials including templates used by all
departments.
Manage all related outside vendors including printers, designers and mail houses.
Build and maintain an up to date photo library including taking photographs.
Oversee content and production of all event information on social media and in print including
invitations, save the date information, event programs, artwork and event scripts.

Ability to research, read, review, enter and retrieve information from computer, hard copies and desk
top publishing systems.
Prolonged standing, walking and bending in addition to sitting in front of a computer
Regular communications in person, writing and by telephone and the ability create correspondence and
to give speeches and presentations to groups.
Ability to travel independently in the day time and evening throughout the Food Bank service area and
to related vendors for marketing and communications.
Ability to lift, carry, and set - up a variety of promotional materials including electronics, materials in
boxes, and table top screens.
Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Ability to pack, unpack and put away a variety of materials.
