WHY MASS FLOW?
In most processes it is mass, not volume, which is the
critical variable. Volumetric flow measurements are
less reliable than mass flow measurements because
changes in gas temperature and pressure will change
the density of a fixed volume of gas. In the control
process, additional errors can be propagated by back
pressure changes in the process.
Unlike rotameters, turbine meters and other
volumetric flow devices, thermal mass flow meters
and controllers are relatively immune to changes in inlet
temperature and pressure. Because these instruments
directly measure molecular flow, they provide the most
reliable, repeatable and accurate method for delivering
material from a supply volume to a process at a desired
rate.

Viscosity-Compensated Plastic Flow Meters Model VKP
Technical Details
The KOBOLD plastic flow meters model VKP operate on a
special suspended float principle with cylindrical measuring
tube and spring-loaded float with orifice. The float in model
VKP-3... has slots moulded on the outside, which protect
the instrument from soiling by depositing dirt particles. The
danger of the float jamming is thus considerably reduced and
soiled liquids with a particle size up to 400 µm can be
measured without difficulty. In model VKP-2... a sharp-edged
orifice in the float renders the instrument less sensitive to
changes in viscosity.

Description
Technical Details
The flow meters of model SVK are remarkable for their
simplicity and versatility. The flow rates of oil, water and
liquids similar to water can thus be quickly measured and
monitored. The SVK instruments operate on a very simple
principle and are easy to mount. The medium flows through
an annular opening created by the cylinder bore and the
cone, and produces a pressure difference that forces the
piston against a calibrated spring. The stroke of the piston is
directly proportional to the flow rate.

P110 series pressure transmitter has been designed as
an advanced device for measuring pressure of gases
and liquids in industrial applications. It is extremely
versatile and suitable for measuring static pressure. The
built-in ceramic measuring cell is highly corrosion
resistant, stable and has an excellent price / performance
ratio. Thanks to their high natural frequency and the
rugged construction, the P110 transmitter withstands
high shock and vibration. The transmitters are available
as absolute and relative pressure types with either 2-wire
current or 3-wire voltage output. The pressure to be
measured acts without transmitting liquid fill on a stable,
corrosion resistant ceramic measuring cell. Piezoresistive
resistors are attached to the cell and connected in a
Wheatstone bridge configuration. The output signal of
this bridge is converted into a standardized current or
voltage output signal.

Specifications:
Case: Modern V-shape design with parts molded of GE Valox®
polyester, in black textured finish. Heavy glass protected front firmly
secured by spring action.
Stem: Tapered bulb chambers are made of precision ground aluminum. The tapered chamber forms a metal contact with matching
taper in the sockets assuring maximum speed of response to
temperature changes. Graphite is used as a conducting media
between bulb chamber and glass tube.
Locking Device: Adjustable case locknut and angle adjusting screw
work independently to provide full 360° positioning of thermometer
case and stem.
Tube & Capillary: Mercury filled-magnifying lens “Red Reading”
tube (Spirit Filled option available). Precision made to guarantee
accuracy within 1% of scale range. Silicone shock mounting for
lasting durability. When Mercury is not desired, alcohol-based spirit
fill is available
Scale: 9" scale with white coated aluminum and permanently baked
bold black markings.
Applications: REOTEMP “All Angle” Industrial Thermometers are
used in pipelines of all types, commercial building application
(heating & cooling), process piping, tanks, boilers, etc.

The meter’s accuracy is affected by disturbances such as pumps,
elbows, tees, valves, etc., in the flow stream. Install the meter in a
straight run of pipe as far as possible from any disturbances. The
distance required for accuracy will depend on the type of disturbance.

The meter is designed to withstand outdoor conditions. A cool, dry location, where the unit can be easily serviced is recommended.
The meter can be mounted on horizontal or vertical runs of pipe. Mounting at the vertical (twelve o'clock) position on horizontal pipe is
recommended. Mounting anywhere around the diameter of vertical pipe is acceptable, however, the pipe must be completely full of water
at all times. Back pressure is essential on downward flows. See the minimum straight length of pipe requirement chart above.
The meter can accurately measure flow from either direction.

Measuring accuracy requires a fully developed turbulent flow profile. Pulsating, swirling and other disruptions in the flow stream will effect
accuracy. Flow conditions with a Reynolds Number greater than 4000 will result in a fully developed turbulent flow. A Reynolds Number less

The Rate-Master® flowmeter line of direct reading precision flowmeters incorporates
many unique user features at moderate cost. These low cost flowmeters are ideal for
general use.
Easy to read design — The direct reading scales eliminate troublesome conversions. The
scales are brushed aluminum, coated with epoxy and the graduations are on both sides of
the indicating tube. Special integral flow guides stabilize the float throughout the range
to keep it from hunting or wandering in the bore. The float is highly visible against a white
background.
Construction assures accuracy — All Rate-Master® flowmeter bodies are injection
molded of tough, clear, shatter-proof polycarbonate plastic around a precision tapered pin.
The result is accurate and repeatable readings. The single piece plastic body is mounted to
a stainless steel back bone into which pipe thread inserts are welded to absorb piping
torque. Precision metering valves of brass or stainless steel (specify BV or SSV on order)
are available as an optional extra and permit precise flow adjustments. For vacuum
applications, Model RMA units are available with top mounted valves (specify TMV). The
small Series RMA models are accurate within ±4% of full scale reading; Series RMB within
±3%; large Series RMC within ±2%.

Installation is simple — The Rate-Master® Flowmeter can be neatly panel mounted to
keep flow tube centers in the same plane as the panel surface or surface mounted on the
panel by means of tapped holes in the backbone. When through-panel mounted, the bezel
automatically positions the instrument at the correct depth in the panel cutout. Surface
mounted units can also be held in place by the piping. All mounting hardware plus
installation and operating instructions are included.
Easy-to-Interchange bodies — Within a given Series Rate-Master® flowmeter bodies
can be instantly interchanged. Simply “unplug” the body from backbone and replace it with
another. “O” rings provide a tight seal on inlet and outlet. Piping remains undisturbed.
Interchangeability is useful where different scale ranges are sometimes required at the
same location in the laboratory or plant.
Cleaning is easy — To release the plastic flowmeter body from the stainless steel
backbone, just remove four screws. Pipe thread flow connections remain undisturbed.
Remove the slide cover and the plug ball stop, clean the flow tube with soap and water and
reassemble. It’s that simple.

Select the Dwyer Magnehelic® gage for high accuracy — guaranteed
within 2% of full scale — and for the wide choice of 81 models available to suit
your needs precisely. Using Dwyer's simple, frictionless Magnehelic® movement, it quickly indicates low air or non-corrosive gas pressures — either positive, negative (vacuum) or differential. The design resists shock, vibration
and over-pressures. No manometer fluid to evaporate, freeze or cause toxic
or leveling problems. It's inexpensive, too.
The Magnehelic® is the industry standard to measure fan and blower
pressures, filter resistance, air velocity, furnace draft, pressure drop across
orifice plates, liquid levels with bubbler systems and pressures in fluid amplifier or fluidic systems. It also checks gas-air ratio controls and automatic
valves, and monitors blood and respiratory pressures in medical care equipment.

calibrated in the same position in which they are used. These characteristics make
Magnehelic® gages ideal for both stationary and portable applications. A 49⁄16˝ hole
is required for flush panel mounting. Complete mounting and connection fittings
plus instructions are furnished with each instrument.
VENT VALVES
In applications where pressure is continuous and the Magnehelic® gage is connected by metal or plastic tubing which
cannot be easily removed, we suggest using Dwyer A-310A
vent valves to connect gage. Pressure can then be removed
to check or re-zero the gage.
HIGH AND MEDIUM PRESSURE MODELS
Installation is similar to standard gages except that a 413⁄16˝ hole
is needed for flush mounting. The medium pressure construction is rated for internal pressures up to 35 psig and the high
pressure up to 80 psig. Available for all models. Because of
larger case, the medium pressure and high pressure models
will not fit in a portable case size. Installation of the A-321 safety relief valve on standard Magnehelic® gages often provides
adequate protection against infrequent overpressure.

Adjustable Signal Flag

LED Setpoint Indicator
Bright red LED on right of scale shows when setpoint is
reached. Field adjustable from gage face, unit operates
on 12-24 VDC. Requires MP or HP style cover and
bezel.
Portable Units
Combine carrying case with any Magnehelic® gage of standard range, except high pressure connection. Includes 9
ft. (2.7 m) of 3⁄16˝ I.D. rubber tubing, standhang bracket and

Clear plastic face is highly resistant to
breakage. Provides undistorted viewing of
pointer and scale.
Blowout plug of silicone rubber protects
against overpressure on 15 psig rated
models. Opens at approximately 25 psig.
Precision litho-printed scale is accurate
and easy to read.
Die cast aluminum case is precision made
and iridite-dipped to withstand 168 hour salt
spray corrosion test. Exterior finished in
baked dark gray hammerloid. One case size
is used for all standard pressure options, and
for both surface and flush mounting.
Red tipped pointer of heat treated aluminum
tubing is easy to see. It is rigidly mounted on
the helix shaft.
Pointer stops of molded rubber prevent pointer
over-travel without damage.
Silicone rubber diaphragm with integrally
molded O-ring is supported by front and rear
plates. It is locked and sealed in position with
a sealing plate and retaining ring. Diaphragm
motion is restricted to prevent damage due to
overpressures.
“Wishbone” assembly provides mounting for
helix, helix bearings and pointer shaft.
Jeweled bearings are shock-resistant mounted;
provide virtually friction-free motion for helix.
Motion damped with high viscosity silicone
fluid.
Calibrated range spring is flat spring steel.
Small amplitude of motion assures
consistency and long life. It reacts to pressure
on diaphragm. Live length adjustable for
calibration.
Zero adjustment screw is conveniently
located in the plastic cover, and is accessible
without removing cover. O-ring seal provides
pressure tightness.
Samarium Cobalt magnet mounted at one
end of range spring rotates helix without mechanical linkages.
STOCKED MODELS
Helix is precision made from an alloy of high magnetic permeability. Mounted in jeweled
bearings, it turns freely, following the magnetic field to move the pointer across the scale.
