Description of the system The Fire Damper System (FDS) allows to feed, monitor and test up to 60 fire dampers. Smoke detectors can be connected and monitored, as well. The system is designed to feed only 24 V fire dampers. The system is composed of: - a master unit - up to 56 slave units - power supply for slave units - signal repeater FDS-M FDS-S FDS-P FDS-R MASTER UNIT FDS-M 4 Local Fire Dampers 4 Local Smoke Detectors 10 DAMPERS 10 DAMPERS POWER SUPPLY FDS-P SLAVE UNIT FDS-S 10 DAMPERS POWER SUPPLY FDS-P POWER SUPPLY FDS-P SLAVE UNIT FDS-S SLAVE UNIT FDS-S SLAVE UNIT FDS-S SLAVE UNIT FDS-S SLAVE UNIT FDS-S SIGNAL REPEATER FDS-R FIRE DAMPER SMOKE DETECTOR FIRE DAMPER SMOKE DETECTOR FIRE DAMPER UP TO 60 DAMPERS SMOKE DETECTOR Fig. 1. FDS - Operation diagram The FDS-M Master unit accepts up to 4 fire dampers and 4 smoke detectors, which can be locally connected without any further component required. The FDS-M can also handle up to 60 remotely connected FDS-S slave units (up to 60 local and slave dampers total). Each slave unit provides 1 output and 2 inputs to handle one fire damper and one smoke detector. Power supply to the fire damper is provided by the slave unit, so no extra power supply is required One FDS-P power supply can feed up to 10 fire dampers. One FDS-R signal repeater is required if more than 30 slave dampers are connected, in order to restore the bus signal quality. 3 lin dab | w e s i m p l i fy c o n s t r u c t i o n The FDS-M can optionally manage a simple Smoke evacuation system, controlling 3 spring-return smoke dampers, a variable speed fan and a duct dampers, a variable speed fan and a duct pressure gauge. If activated, no local fire dampers can be connected. The main function of the FDS-S is to continuously check all fire damper position switches and all smoke detectors, and to close fire dampers when one fire dampers closes or one detectors are activated. Fire dampers and smoke detectors can also be grouped into sections, so that if any fire damper in a section closes, or any smoke detector in a section is activated, all fire dampers in that section are closed. Fire alarm signals for external systems can be read (and possibly acknowledged) by the FDS-M. An external alarm signal is sent to be read by external systems (e.g. to stop an AHU). A supervisory BMS system can be connected to the FDS-M through Modbus protocol. 4 l i nda b | we si mpl i f y c onst ru ction 2.
