Equipment Needed

 PC : one free serial port

 a serial communication optical cable software

 Stables AC/DC voltage sources Fluke 5500 or equivalent

 DC voltages : 30, 300 and 3000mVDC ±10% whose values known better than 0.05%

 AC voltages : 30V 50 Hz ±10% whose values known better than 0.1%

 the operator will be asked to enter , in dialog boxes the values of these voltages .

Resistors/shunts:

 They will have to be large enough not to vary significantly during calibration : see the needed wattages below . Use low drift resistors.

 these values need to be known exactly but can be ± 10% from the nominal values

The CA6240 can work using two different modes :

 the "User" mode is the normal mode with the display showing measurement values.

 the "Production" (or "factory") mode is the one used in factory or calibration lab to adjust the instrument.

When in Production mode, the instrument display shows "Prod CAL" flashing.

Install the software to the PC

It will be installed in a directory CA6240-V10

The program's toolbar includes two buttons allowing to switch an instrument from a mode to the other one.

To do a calibration, it is necessary to use the "Pr" named one to switch your instrument to the "Production" mode .

Setting the serial port communication number

From Explore/CA6240 select the service CA6240_V10.INI file

 Set the line "5" parameter ( "5" located before "|" symbol ) to the number you want ( assuming 1 to 9 only

) .

E.g; to set the port 3 :

 Close the file and from the Start>Programs/CA6240/Service CA6240_V10.INI launch the calibration program.

Before Calibration:

The instrument has to be at the reference temperature: 23º C ± 3 C for at least 2 Hours

Avoid to calibrate it just after a battery charge ( which increases the inside temperature significantly)

After a battery charge, you can open the case to stabilize the temperature faster.

Do not calibrate when charging.

Following the calibration steps is a step to verify:

- the battery internal resistance

- the battery temperature

- the internal 10A shunt temperature

These last tests are only indicative and can be void if. It can be an indication of a defective battery or defective temperature sensor.

Serial Number :

---------------

When you recalibrate an instrument, the serial number has to be kept without any modification; don’t execute

the last step called "Serial Number - Switch to User Mode" by using the dedicated button and quit the program.

In case of a board failure you may have to reset a serial number.

That can be done only if all the previous steps were corrects.

After the step "Serial Number - Switch to User Mode".

At the end of this step, automatically :

- the instrument is softly rebooted

- the Instrument Identification's window appears

to verify :

- serial number

- calibration date

- etc ......

- the Instrument is switched back to the "User" mode .

Note :

The instrument always starts in "User" mode.

To calibrate it, you have to switch it to the "Production" mode. (from the software menu)

After calibration, the PC will switch it automatically back to the "User" mode to be able to use it normally.

 Use the two right buttons on the toolbar to enter the values, use decimal point "." but not comma ","

 Take care with the unities to use when entering these values

 (µ or 0.1µ for resistances and µV or mV for voltages : that will be written in the dialog boxes ) .

 During the calibration, if an incorrect coefficient is detected, the software will switch to manual calibration

(if automatic selected before) and the screen "Coefficients" is displayed.

 The operator can then stop and exit or redo the same test: to do so, click on the "Calibration/Control" screen and then click on the "Go" button.

 At completion of the test, the number of a correct step or coefficient becomes green colored and red if the test has failed.

 The "?" button allows the instrument's identification ( serial number, firmware version , coefficients , .... ) : so it can be used to check the serial communication .

 To uninstall this program, run again the "SetUp.exe" of the CD.

Quick Start :

 Using the CD , install the program .

 Set the Serial Port Communication Number in the configuration "Service_CA6240_V10.INI" file (1 to 9 for

COM1 to COM9 ).

 Connect the instrument to the PC using an optical serial link ( DB9 or USB ).

 Start the "Service_CA6240_V10.exe" program using the navigator or "Start" button.

 Switch your instrument from the "User" mode to the "Production" mode, using the toolbar's "Pr" button.

 Check the right communication PC/Instrument using the "?" button (Instrument Identification).

 Start the calibration by clicking the "Go" button.

Repair and Calibration

To ensure that your instrument meets factory specifications, we recommend that it be submitted to our factory

Service Center at one-year intervals for recalibration, or as required by other standards or internal procedures.

For instrument repair and calibration:

You must contact our Service Center for a Customer Service Authorization number (CSA#). This will ensure that when your instrument arrives, it will be tracked and processed promptly. Please write the CSA# on the outside of the shipping container. If the instrument is returned for calibration, we need to know if you want a standard calibration, or a calibration traceable to N.I.S.T. (includes calibration certificate plus recorded calibration data).

The Model 6240 is warranted to the owner for a period of one year from the date of original purchase against defects in manufacture. This limited warranty is given by AEMC

Instruments, not by the distributor from whom it was purchased. This warranty is void if the unit has been tampered with, abused or if the defect is related to service not performed by AEMC

For full and detailed warranty coverage, please read the Warranty Coverage Information, which is attached to the

Warranty Registration Card (if enclosed) or is available at www.aemc.com. Please keep the Warranty Coverage

If a malfunction occurs within the one-year period, you may return the instrument to us for repair, provided we have your warranty registration information on file or a proof of purchase. AEMC
