Introduction
The Model 714-001 Speaker Amplifier Enclosure is constructed of cold-rolled steel, durable enough for
even the toughest industrial environments. This amplifier enclosure provides an undedicated terminal
strip for optional connections.
This installation information provides instructions on both the placement and mounting of amplifier
enclosures. Also included are preventive maintenance steps to extend the life of your Page/Party®
equipment, and troubleshooting procedures to help with station adjustment and checkout. Finally, a list
of replacement parts is provided should you need to perform repairs on the Model 714-001 Amplifier
Enclosure.
Installation
GENERAL INFORMATION
When installing a new system, or an add-on station, consult the system layout diagrams.
Refer to Figure 2 for wiring details. Follow the wire colors carefully - the colors noted in the figure
correspond directly to GAI-Tronics 60029 or 60038 Series Cable. The Model 714-001 Enclosure allows
termination of the 16-conductor (60029) cable for linking multi-party handset stations. The wires must
be spade-lugged and connected carefully to the terminal block. An improper termination may result in
diminished station performance.
MOUNTING
There are four .312 inch diameter mounting holes in the four corners of the enclosure (refer to Figure 1).
When mounting the enclosure, use caution to avoid damaging the terminal blocks inside. The suggested
mounting height for all station enclosures is 54 inches (137 cm) to the center of the enclosure.

Figure 1. Mounting Details
Drill or punch the hole(s) for conduit entrance. The holes should be located along the bottom of the
enclosure to help prevent water and moisture from entering. Install the conduit to the enclosure. Feed
the wiring through the conduit and into the enclosure.
Figure 2 shows the wiring details of the 714-001. Note the wiring on TB3 is used only for applications
with special equipment. If your system does not have any such special equipment, disregard that section
of the wiring details.
If the speaker amplifier’s associated speaker(s) is near a handset station, feedback may occur during
paging. To avoid this feedback, refer to Figure 2, which shows how to mute the local speaker during
paging. Model 714-001 is shipped from the factory un-muted, with the legged purple wire on Terminal
8.
After muting changes are made, unpack the station amplifier and install it following the instructions
packed with the unit.

Maintenance
Basic preventive maintenance should be performed regularly on all GAI-Tronics stations. Our Field
Service Department can formulate a service contract to suit specific preventive maintenance needs.
U
CAUTION U
Remove power from the enclosure before performing any maintenance.
In addition, the following procedures can be used to keep your Page/Party® system running.
1. Remove power from the enclosure.
2. Remove the amplifier from the enclosure.
3. Visually check the interior of the enclosure for signs of liquid contamination, i.e., condensation,
process liquid, etc.
4. Ensure that all gaskets and hardware are in place. All gaskets on the amplifier’s front panel should
be in place before mounting the amplifier in the enclosure. Failure to install the gaskets (which also
act as spacers) can damage connectors and cause system faults. Restore power to the unit.

In certain circumstances, it may be necessary to re-terminate some or all of the enclosures in a system.
When this is done, wires should be stripped back to clean copper, have new lugs applied, and be
reconnected to each terminal.
In some cases, contaminants from the plant atmosphere enter the enclosure. Often, a solvent contact
cleaner is not strong enough to wash the buildup away. If this occurs, try the following steps:
1. Disconnect power from the enclosure.
2. Disconnect all wires from the terminal strip inside the box.
3. Spray the interior of the enclosure with a heavy-duty, surfactant-type, water-based industrial cleaner.
Heavy concentrations of contaminants may be scrubbed with a scrub pad or a soft brush.
4. Rinse the interior of the box with a water spray, and blow out any excess water using compressed air.
5. Apply a coating of water-displacement solution followed by contact cleaner and compressed air.
6. Re-lug all terminations. Wires should be striped back to clean copper before re-lugging.
7. Reinstall the amplifier. Reapply the power.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The following suggestions are provided to aid a technician in troubleshooting.
Problem
Solution
Feedback during page of nearby
handset station.
Use the muting feature in the amplifier enclosure at the terminal
blocks.
Crosstalk
One or more system cable pairs may be improperly terminated.
Visually inspect the system cable for accidental crossing of
cable pairs or grounds.
