Mixed Double Rink Knock Out - Rules
01. The competition shall be known as the “Bowls Wiltshire Mixed Double Rink” and shall
be open to all Clubs affiliated to Bowls Wiltshire. The winning Club will hold the trophy
for one year. Matches to be played under Bowls England Laws of the Game, under the
management of a Bowls Wiltshire Competition Committee (made up of the Bowls
Wiltshire Competition Co-ordinator, the Bowls Wiltshire Chair Person and the Bowls
Wiltshire Administrator) whose decision on any matter will be final.
02. The annual entrance fee shall be determined by Bowls Wiltshire. Entry to the
competition must be requested and paid for on or before the 28th February.
03. Each Club (includes the Wiltshire Junior Squad) may enter one or more teams
comprising of two mixed rinks of 2 ladies and 2 men per rink, changes of personnel
being permitted from round to round as desired. Players may not represent more than
one club, or play for more than one team in one season. All players must be fully paid
up members of a Bowls Wiltshire Club by the 1 st May each year.
04. One four shall play at home and the other upon the green of their opponents, both
games being played at the same time on the same day. Should it not be possible to play
at one venue due to inclement weather, then the match at the other venue should
proceed and the result and circumstances reported to the Bowls Wiltshire Competition
Committee, who shall, in conjunction with the two clubs involved, decide if the match
should be replayed at the same time on the same day, or if the result at one venue
should stand and the outstanding match be played on a mutually agreed date.
05. The draw, which shall be “Open” will be made by the Bowls Wiltshire Competition
Committee. The final will be played on the Bowls Wiltshire Finals weekend.
06. In the draw, the club drawn first will be known as the “Challenger” who will be
responsible for all match arrangements. The Challenger must offer their opponent within
48 hours of receipt of the draw at least three dates for play, one of which must be a
Saturday or Sunday. The time for commencing a match shall be mutually agreed but no
team shall be compelled to accept a time earlier than 6.00pm Monday to Friday or
9.30am on a Saturday or Sundays, nor later than 6.30pm on any day. However, when a
draw is issued in advance of the commencement of the Competition, the Challenger
does not need to offer dates until 21 days before the closing date of that round, after
which the aforesaid conditions will apply. The Opponent team shall, within 48hours of
receipt of the challenge, reply and accept one of the dates offered.
If a challenge has not made within the specific period, the opponent shall become the
challenger and make all match arrangements including the offering of dates and choice
of venue. Men and Ladies National Competition dates, County Match dates (including
Johns Trophy & Middleton Cup), County Competitions and Double Rink dates shall not
be offered unless neither club has any players in these competitions. When the date is
agreed it should be advised to the Competition Controller.
07. If a team fails to appear and be ready to play within 30 minutes after the agreed time for
the tie, the opponent may claim a ‘walkover’.
08. Matches must be played by the closing date for each round, except in exceptional
circumstances and only with the permission of the Bowls Wiltshire Competition
09. A draw is to be made from all available rinks.
10. The match shall consist of 21 ends with each player playing with 2 woods and the result
of the game decided on the scores of both fours. An extra end must be played on the
green of the challengers only and the shots of this to count only in the case of a tie on
the game proper. A toss of a coin will be used to determine which team has the choice
of playing the first or second wood in the extra end.
11. It is both teams’ responsibility to ensure that there is a result of a game before the
closing date in each round. In the event of inclement weather that rules out further play
on the day the following shall apply: If 15 ends or more have been completed the result will stand unless the match is
tied then the cards should be initialled after the last completed end and the match
rearranged and resumed from that point and played to its conclusion. A
substitute may be used only if one of the original players is not available on the
new date and only with the permission of the Bowls Wiltshire Competition
If 7 ends or less have been completed then the match will be rearranged and
If more than 7 ends but less than15 have been completed, then the cards should
be initialled after the last completed end and the match rearranged and resumed
from that point and played to its conclusion. A substitute may be used only if one
of the original players is not available on the new date and only with the
permission of the Bowls Wiltshire Competition Committee.
All matches shall still be played before the closing date unless a match cannot be
either played on the agreed date or the match has to be terminated due to
inclement weather and time does not allow for the match to be re-scheduled
before the closing date. Permission must be granted by the Bowls Wiltshire
Competition Committee for the match to be played after the closing date.
12. Fixed groundsheets are acceptable for this Competition; however portable/moveable
groundsheets are prohibited.
13. The result must be phoned to the Competition Controller within 24 hours of the
conclusion of the match by the winning team. The winning team to hold the signed
cards. Should there be an issue the Controller will request sight of the cards.
14. Any claims to default by the challenger or opponent must be forwarded to the
Competition Co-ordinator of Bowls Wiltshire within 24 hours after such a default occurs.
