Release note – Milestone XProtect® Smart Client 2013
May 21, 2013
It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of:
XProtect Smart Client 2013 – Ultimate control
Designed for Milestone XProtect IP video management software (VMS), XProtect Smart Client is a
powerful, easy-to-use client application for the daily operations of security installations. Its streamlined
interface helps improve usability, making it easy to monitor installations of all sizes, manage security
incidents and access and export video.
Continually setting the standard for usability in IP VMS products, XProtect Smart Client provides an
extremely efficient working environment that can be optimized for different tasks and operator requirements.
Advanced investigation tools combined with an easy-to-navigate video timeline enable fast and accurate
examination of incidents. Advanced export options, including digital signature, enable users to more
efficiently and securely export video evidence.
What’s new in XProtect Smart Client 2013?
XProtect Smart Client 2013 is the latest version of Milestone’s award-winning, easy-to-use client application.
The new version offers a number of feature enhancements making the daily operation more efficient.
Advanced multi-screen handling
• New extended floating window handling turns XProtect Smart Client into a true multi-screen
application enabling security operators to efficiently work with several floating windows across
multiple screens
• Operators can fully control all floating windows and select any camera in any window for joystick
control, using the overlay buttons or other camera-related actions
• The floating windows can either be operated in synchronized mode where the individual windows
are synchronized with the main XProtect Smart Client window, or independently with separate
control per window. When used in independent mode, each window will have its own time navigation
where the ability to directly export from a floating window simplifies the investigation process when
many cameras need to be considered.
• Local hotspots make it possible to define a hotspot per window, which helps the operator to focus on
the most important cameras when monitoring many cameras across multiple windows
• Support for Microsoft Windows 7 gestures makes it easy to work with multiple windows and snap
individual floating windows to half or full screens with a simple drag or keyboard controls
Interactive camera view handling
• To better support operators dealing with specific incidents or temporary surveillance tasks, XProtect
Smart Client allows the operator to instantly add (replace, if no idle view positions exist) cameras to
a camera view, or rearrange cameras in view with a simple drag-and-drop
• A restore function makes it easy to revert back to the original view layout after a temporary
rearrangement of a view, such as tracking an incident

The flexible camera swap possibility is also available in setup mode where cameras can be easily
arranged and optimized before the view is saved
Operators can produce instant visual documentation of a camera though a snapshot function that
can be used to save a camera image to a file, or send it directly to a printer.
Enhanced map navigation
• A new single click function allows operators to open all cameras (maximum 25 cameras) on a map in
a floating window cameras, enabling the operator to faster gain overview of an incident
Extended PTZ control
• Possibility for operators to use PTZ control and digital zoom in carousel views
