LiPo Battery Pack

Thank you very much for your trust in our products. Please read this instruction manual carefully to avoid mistakes in the usage of the product. Because Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries are very powerful they need careful handling and maintenance. So please follow the instructions in this manual carefully because mistakes can destroy the battery in an irreparable way. Robitronic guarantees this product to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for 90 days from the original date of purchase. This limited warranty does not cover defects which are a result of normal wear, misuse or improper maintenance.

Because we are not able to control the correct installation or operation of this product we can't accept any liability for any damages resulting from using this product. Any operation of this product is at your own risk.

By installing or operating this product the user accepts all resulting liability.

WARNING

• IMPORTANT: Do not leave your model unsupervised while a battery is connected. The model could come out of control and can cause damage or fire.

• Do not leave your battery unattended while charging.

• Always use special chargers which are able to handle LiPo batteries.

Do not use chargers for NiCd/NiMH batteries as they would overcharge the battery.

• While charging the battery must be placed on a hard, not flammable mat. Do not cover the battery. Keep flammable materials away from the battery.

• Use when charging a Lipo-bag (R14005).

• Always make sure that the right cell value or the maximum charging voltage/current is set properly. A wrong setting could damage the battery or cause fire.

• Do not go below the discharge cutt-off voltage. Deep discharge below this value will damage the battery permanently.

• Do not open the battery pack or single cells from the pack.

• Please avoid short circuits, reverse polarity and overcharging of the battery.

• The battery is not a toy. Children under 14 years are only allowed to use the battery under adult supervision. Parents are responsible for their children.

• Take care of your battery and mount it in a way inside your model so that a crash cannot deform your battery mechanically. A damaged battery is not usable any more. So please take care of your battery and mount it in a way inside your model so that a crash cannot deform your battery mechanically.

CHARGE

The Robitronic LiPo battery pack can handle a charging current of 1C

(=typical capacity). Always use special chargers which are specially designed for charging LiPo batteries. These chargers work with the constant current / constant voltage (CC-CV) charging method. The battery is first charged with the full current as long as the maximum charging voltage is reached. Then the charger reduces the current as long as the battery is fully charged. The battery is fully charged when the charging current is below about 0,1*C.

LiPo batteries have no memory-effect and a very little self-discharge.

So you can recharge the battery at any time. It is not necessary to discharge the battery before charging it. Please also note that the battery normally do not get very warm while charging.

The maximum charging voltage is 4,2 V per cell. As this pack has 2 cells in series the maximum charging voltage of this pack is 8,4 V. This voltage must not be exceeded.

Use a balancer while charging. The balancer matches the voltages of the single cells inside the pack and so makes sure that each single cell in the pack is not overcharged.

This battery can be used multiple times a day. You only have to make sure that the battery is cooled down to ambient temperature before charging it again.

Following settings are strongly recommended:

• max. charging current: 1C (for example 6A for the LiPo 6000 pack)

• max. charging voltage: 4,2 V per cell

• min. discharge cut-off voltage: 2,8 V per cell

CONNECTORS

The Robitronic LiPo battery pack is already delivered with the right power cables as well as an power plug and an balancer port (if more than 1 cell).

For normal charging and discharging the power cables have to be used. It is not allowed to do this over the balancing port because the width of the cables is much thinner.

The balancing port must only be used with a special designed balancer. Please check the instruction manual of your balancer to avoid reverse polarity before you connect the battery to the balancer.

For normal operation inside the model the balancing port is not used.

Even so it is not allowed to remove it.

If you want to change the power plug you have to do that direct on the cable. Do not open the battery pack and solder direct to the cells.

Furthermore you have to use a high amp reverse polarity protected connection system.

DISCHARGE

You should take care that the battery does not get warmer than 60°C

(140°F) while discharging.

The minimum cut-off voltage of this battery pack is 2,8 V per cell. If the voltage of the pack gets below this value or if the voltage of a single cell gets below 2,8 V the pack or the cell is damaged permanently.

Thus we recommend strongly to use a electronic speed controller with

LiPo function because these speedos protect the battery from deep discharging. Please also stop your model immediately if you notice a loss in power.

Please also make sure to let the battery pack enough time to cool down to ambient temperature before charging it again.

STORAGE

LiPo batteries can be stored over a longer period without problems.

Because of the very low self-discharge the cells will not suffer from that. However you should make sure that the charge state of the battery is around 20% or higher.

If you want to store the battery about half a year or longer you should charge the battery to about 50% of the nominal capacity. Then such a long storage period is also no problem for the battery.

If you store the battery when it is fully discharged the voltage of the cells will fall below the minimum cut-off voltage and the battery gets damaged.

Please also make sure that the battery has some capacity remaining when you use it periodically. If you are not sure simply charge it a little bit. Please store the battery at a dry, cold place.

LIMITED WARRANTY

Robitronic guarantees this product to be free from defects in materials or workmanship. This limited warranty applies only to the already existing material or functional defects from date of purchase. It does not cover defects which are a result of normal wear, misuse or improper maintenance.

Because we are not able to control the correct installation or operation of this product we can't accept any liability for any damages resulting from using this product.

Any operation of this product is at your own risk.

By installing or operating this product the user accepts all resulting liability.

DISPOSAL OF WORN BATTERIES

As a consumer, you are legally bound to return any old or worn batteries to special disposal sites at no additional costs. Batteries contain toxic materials and hence are not suitable for disposal through domestic waste. Please make sure to inform yourself about the guidelines on disposing worn or old batteries in your community and help protecting the environment. Thank you!

LiPo Akkupack

Vielen Dank für Ihr Vertrauen in die Produkte von Robitronic. Bitte lesen Sie diese Gebrauchsanweisung sorgfältig durch, um Fehler in der Handhabung zu vermeiden. Lithium Polymer (LiPo) Akkus sind sehr leistungsfähig und brauchen sorgfältige Behandlung und Pflege.

Beachten Sie daher die Angaben in dieser Gebrauchsanweisung genau, da Fehler in der Handhabung zur Zerstörung des Akkus führen würden.

WARNHINWEISE

• WICHTIG: Lassen Sie Ihr Modell niemals unbeaufsichtigt, solange ein Akku angesteckt ist. Das Modell könnte ausser Kontrolle geraten und Schäden bzw. Feuer am Modell oder an seiner Umgebung verursachen.

• Laden Sie den Akku immer nur unter Aufsicht.

• Verwenden Sie zum Laden des Akkus ausschließlich spezielle

Ladegeräte, die für diesen Akkutyp geeignet sind. Laden Sie den Akku niemals mit einem NiCd/NiMH Ladegerät.

• Während der Ladung muss sich der Akku auf einer festen, nicht brennbaren Unterlage befinden. Der Akku darf nicht abgedeckt werden. Halten Sie brennbare Gegenstände vom Akku fern.

• Verwenden sie beim Laden einen Lipo-Bag (R14005).

•Stellen Sie sicher, dass die richtige Zellenzahl bzw.

Ladeschlussspannung am Ladegerät eingestellt ist. Eine falsche

Einstellung könnte zur Zerstörung des Akkus bzw. zu Feuer führen.

• Überschreiten Sie keinesfalls die Lade- / Entladeströme.

• Unterschreiten Sie niemals die Entladeschlussspannung des Akkus.

Tiefentladung führt zur irreparablen Beschädigung des Akkus.

• Öffnen Sie auf keinen Fall den Akkupack oder einzelne Zellen des

Packs.

• Vermeiden Sie Kurzschluss, Verpolung und Überladung des Akkus.

• Der Akku ist kein Spielzeug und darf von Kindern unter 14 Jahren nur unter Aufsicht benutzt werden. Eltern haften für Ihre Kinder!

• Beschädigungen der Aussenhülle machen den Akku unbrauchbar.

Seien Sie daher im Umgang mit dem Akku vorsichtig und bauen Sie in so in Ihr Modell ein, dass bei einem Crash oder Absturz der Akku mechanisch nicht verformt werden kann.

LADUNG

Der Robitronic LiPo Akku kann mit einem maximalen Ladestrom von

1C (=Nennkapazität) geladen werden. Verwenden Sie nur spezielle

Ladegeräte, die für die Ladung von LiPo Akkus vorgesehen wurden.

Diese arbeiten nach dem Konstantstrom - Konstantspannungsprinzip

(CC-CV). Der Akku wird dabei zuerst mit dem eingestellten Ladestrom geladen, bis die Ladeschlussspannung erreicht ist. Danach regelt das

Ladegerät den Ladestrom zurück, bis der Akku komplett geladen ist.

Dies ist bei einem Strom von ca. 0,1*C erreicht. LiPo Akkus haben keinen Memory Effekt und fast keine Selbstentladung. Sie können den

Akku also jederzeit nachladen und müssen ihn vorher nicht entladen.

Der Akku erwärmt sich bei der Ladung normalerweise fast nicht.

Die Ladeschlussspannung beträgt 4,2 V pro Zelle. Bei einem 2S (2

Zellen in Serie) Pack beträgt die Ladeschlussspannung also 8,4 V.

Diese darf auf keinen Fall überschritten werden.

Verwenden Sie einen Balancer zum Laden. Der Balancer gleicht die

Ladezustände der einzelnen Zellen an und sorgt dadurch dafür, dass die einzelnen Zellen im Pack nicht überladen werden.

Der Akku kann mehrmals am Tag verwendet werden. Er sollte jedoch vor jeder Ladung auf Umgebungstemperatur abgekühlt sein.

Folgende Einstellungen werden dringend empfohlen:

• max. Ladestrom: 1C (z.B.: 6A beim 6000er LiPo Pack)

• max. Ladeschlussspannung: 4,2 V pro Zelle

• min. Entladeschlussspannung: 2,8 V pro Zelle

ANSCHLÜSSE

Der Robitronic LiPo Akku wird fertig mit entsprechendem Power-Kabel und Anschlussstecker, sowie eines Balancer Anschlusses

(ab 2 Zellen) geliefert.

Für die normale Ladung bzw. Entladung muss das Power-Kabel verwendet werden. Dies darf nicht über den Balancer Anschluss erfolgen, da hier der Kabelquerschnitt erheblich geringer ist.

Der Balancer-Anschluss darf nur für den Anschluss an einen geeigneten Balancer verwendet werden. Bitte überprüfen Sie in der

Anleitung des Balancers die richtige Belegung der einzelnen Kabel, bevor Sie den Akku mit dem Balancer verbinden.

Der Balancer-Anschluss wird also im normalen Betrieb im Modell nicht verwendet. Er darf trotzdem auf keinen Fall entfernt werden.

Falls Sie das Stecksystem am Power-Kabel wechseln wollen, müssen

Sie das direkt am Kabel tun. Öffnen Sie auf keinen Fall den Akku und löten direkt an den Zellen.

ENTLADUNG

Es muss darauf geachtet werden, dass sich der Akku bei der

Entladung nicht über 60°C erwärmt.

Die Entladeschlussspannung dieses Akkus liegt bei 2,8 V pro Zelle.

Sinkt die Akkuspannung unter diesen Wert ab bzw. sinkt die Spannung einer einzelnen Zelle unter 2,8 V ab, wird der Akku bzw. die Zelle unwiderruflich beschädigt. Es wird daher dringend geraten, einen elektronischen Fahrtenregler mit LiPo Funktion zu verwenden, der entsprechend früh zurückregelt und den Akku damit schützt. Achten

Sie ausserdem darauf, das Modell sofort zu stoppen, wenn Sie einen massiven Leistungsverlust feststellen.

Lassen Sie den Akku nach der Entladung in Ruhe auskühlen, bevor sie ihn ein weiteres Mal einsetzen.

LAGERUNG

LiPo Akkus können problemlos einige Zeit gelagert werden. Durch die sehr geringe Selbstentladung der Zellen nehmen sie dadurch keinen

Schaden. Es sollte jedoch darauf geachtet werden, dass sich mindestens 20% der Gesamtkapazität im Akku befindet.

Wenn Sie den Akku länger als ein halbes Jahr lagern wollen, sollten

Sie vorher ca. 50% der Gesamtkapazität in den Akku laden. Dann stellt selbst eine so lange Lagerung kein Problem dar.

Wird der Akku im leeren Zustand für längere Zeit gelagert, sinkt die

Zellenspannung unter die Entladeschlussspannung ab und der Akku wird unbrauchbar.

Achten Sie auch bei regelmäßiger Verwendung des Akkus immer darauf, dass sich immer Restkapazität im Akku befindet. Im

Zweifelsfall laden Sie ein wenig Kapazität in den Akku ein.

Lagern Sie den Akku am besten an einem kühlen, trockenen Ort.

Robitronic gewährt die gesetzliche Gewährleistung auf Produktions- und Materialfehler, die beim Zeitpunkt des Kaufs schon vorhanden waren. Die Gewährleistung beinhaltet keine Mängel die Aufgrund von

Abnutzung oder Verschleiß, sowie unsachgemäße Handhabung oder mangelnde Wartung zurückzuführen sind.

Da wir nicht in der Lage sind, eine ordnungsgemäße Verwendung beim Benutzer sicherzustellen, können wir keinerlei Haftung für unmittelbare und mittelbare Schäden aller Art übernehmen. Jeglicher

Gebrauch dieses Produkts erfolgt auf eigene Gefahr.

ENTSORGUNG

Batterien sind Rohstoffe und gehören nicht in den Hausmüll. Ist der

Akku am Ende seiner Lebensdauer, so entsorgen Sie diesen gemäß den geltenden gesetzlichen Vorschriften bei Ihren kommunalen

Sammelstellen. Eine Entsorgung über den Hausmüll ist verboten.
