Allen-Bradley 1794 VHSC Very High Speed Counter Module User Manual

Below you will find brief information for Very High Speed Counter Module 1794 VHSC. This module performs high-speed counting for industrial applications. The module is an intelligent I/O module that interfaces signals with any Allen-Bradley programmable controller that has ControlNet capability. Once configured, the 1794 VHSC can operate without flexbus power, but requires customer power for the module, inputs, and outputs. It has two counters that can be configured for 3 encoder modes (X1, X2, X4), counter mode, period/rate mode, continuous/rate mode, rate measurement, and pulse width modulation (PWM). The module also has four outputs that are isolated in pairs and can be tied to any or all counter windows. Each output has a user-selectable on-off value and can be tied back to an input for cascading. The 1794 VHSC provides totalization in period/rate, continuous/rate, and rate measurement modes.

Frequently asked questions

The 1794 VHSC module can operate in several modes, including counter mode, encoder mode (X1, X2, X4), period/rate mode, continuous/rate mode, rate measurement mode, and pulse width modulation (PWM).

The gate/reset input allows you to control the counting operation of the module. When active, it can trigger different store count modes, such as store/continue, store/wait/resume, store-reset/wait/start, and store-reset/start.

You can assign any of the four outputs to any of the counter windows by setting the appropriate bits in the configuration block.

The frequency limitation for the 1794 VHSC in period/rate or continuous/rate mode is 200Hz X the scaler value.

To enable outputs, set the appropriate bits in word 1 of the data table. Once enabled, you can force outputs on or off by setting specific bits in word 1.

The preset value defines a reference point for the counter, from which it begins counting up or down. The rollover value sets the maximum count before the counter resets to zero and starts counting again.
