www.sylvania.com/LED HF²Chain Colormix INSTALLATION GUIDE This installation guide outlines step-bystep instructions to proper mechanical and electrical installation of HF²Chain Colormix modules and accompanying power supplies and controls. This document should never be considered a substitute for any provision of a regulation or state and/or local code. Installation by a qualified electrician recommended Disconnect before use WARNING: ONLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL SHOULD PERFORM INSTALLATION TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK OR COMPONENT DAMAGE, DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE PERFORMING INSTALLATION OF THE POWER SUPPLIES, MODULES, AND/OR RGB CONTROLLERS. Failure to install the power supplies and/or LED modules in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC), all applicable Federal, State, and local electric codes as well as the specific Underwriters Laboratories (UL) safety standards for the installation, location and application may cause serious personal injury, death, property damage and/or product malfunction. These instructions are guidelines for installation of SYLVANIA LED modules and power supplies. Installation requirements may vary depending on the application. Licensed electricians should provide all installation services for connection for both primary and secondary (input/output) of the power supplies. Identification and Warnings of Safety Hazards In accordance with ANSI Z535.4-2002 the following system of identifying the severity of the hazards associated with the products is used: “DANGER”: Imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. “WARNING”: Potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. “CAUTION”: Potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury or property damage. Also used to alert against unsafe practices. IGNORING A HAZARD WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY. WARNING: Disconnect all existing electrical connections to the power lines and secure the input power cables for safety. WARNING: Do not install if materials are missing or damaged. WARNING: The module cannot be cut or spliced at any point. Cutting the module will result in loss of function and voids the warranty. If necessery, mark and/or predrill the mounting holes into the installation surface Remove any metallic debris, degrease and clean the surface. The module must be mounted to a clean, flat metal surface. Apply thermal grease on the back of the LED board to facilitate heat sinking. Mount the LED board flat, directly on the metal surface using four # 8 size screws, appropriate for the installation surface, and plastic washers or rivets (Ref. Figure 2). If necessery, mark and/or predrill the mounting holes into the installation surface. Use two # 8 size screws, appropriate for the material instelled onto, to securely mount each LED board to the surface (Ref. Figure 3). Note: The brightness and uniformity of the backlit surface can be controlled and fine tuned by adjusting the spacing between LED boards and the number of boards per unit area. CAUTION: Distance between boards can be varied by folding the interconnecting wires and securing them using wire ties. Do not cut the interconnecting wires! FIGURE 4: HF²Chain Colormix can NOT be cut 3 2.0 ELECTRIAL INSTRUCTIONS 2.1 General Instructions: OPTOTRONIC power supplies and control interfaces, and any electrical components should be installed in compliance with all applicable electrical code requirements.
