2.9 Sicherheitstechnische Hinweise
Schädigung des Auges durch Laserstrahlung!
-

variieren. Die folgenden Bedingungen können den Messbereich beeinflussen:
Einfluss
Erweiterung des
Messbereiches
Abnahme des Messbereiches
Zielbeschaffenheit
helle, reflektierende
Oberflächen wie z.B. die
Zieltafel, siehe Kapitel 10
Zubehör auf Seite 68, nur
für LLB-500.
matte und dunkle Oberflächen,
grüne und blaue Oberflächen
Partikel in der Luft
Saubere Umgebungsluft
Staub, Nebel, starker Regenfall,
starker Schneefall
Sonnenschein
Dunkelheit

- Sehr helle Umgebungsbedingungen, starkes Hitzeflimmern
Werten abweichen:
● 20°C Umgebungstemperatur
● 60% Luftfeuchtigkeit
● 953 mbar Luftdruck
Diese Effekte sind beschrieben in:

5.2 Analog – Schnittstelle
Die Analog-Schnittstelle des LLB ist als Stromquelle (0…20mA oder 4…20mA)
ausgelegt. Es können Lasten bis maximal 500  getrieben werden. Die Genauigkeit
des analogen Ausgangs beträgt beim LLB-65 = ±0,2% und beim LLB-500 = ±0,1% auf
den Messbereich.

uMax = max. Unsicherheit
M = Messbereich
ConfMaxDist = programmierte Distanz für den max. Ausgangsstrom
ConfMinDist = programmierte Distanz für den min. Ausgangsstrom
T = Teiler: LLB-65 = 500

Beispiel:
Parameter beinhaltet (Temperaturdrift, Sensorgenauigkeit, Linearität, Zielfarbe etc.).

(DO 1 und DO 2).

Parameter
Leitungstyp A
Wellenwiderstand in 
Betriebskapazität (pF/m)
Schleifenwiderstand (/km)
Aderndurchmesser (mm)
Aderquerschnitt (mm²)

(Slave)
gliedert
sich
in
die
Parametrierungs-,
Konfigurierungsund
Datentransferphase.

E/A Adressen eingetragen werden müssen. Die Kennungen sind in der Gerätestammdatei
hinterlegt.

2.9 Safety information's
Eye injury from laser radiation!
-
The measuring system functions with a red light laser Class 2. In the
case of Class 2 laser devices, the eye is not endangered if the exposure
to the laser radiation is very brief (up to 0.25 s) and accidental. For this
reason, devices of this class can be used without additional protective
measures, provided the application does not require one to look into the
laser beam deliberately for longer periods, i.e. 0.25 s, or to look
repeatedly into the laser beam or the reflected laser beam.
The existence of the blinking reflex for the protection of the eyes may
not be assumed. Therefore eyes should be closed consciously, or
the head should be turned away immediately!
-
The measuring system must be installed in such a way that the
exposure of persons to the laser beam can only occur accidentally.
-
The laser beam must only extend as far as is necessary for the range
measurement. The beam must be limited at the end of the useful range
by a target area in such a way as to minimize the danger from direct or
diffuse reflection.
-
The area outside the operating range where the unshielded laser beam
falls should be limited as far as possible and should remain out of
bounds, particularly in the area above and below eye level.
-
Heed the laser safety regulations according to DIN EN 60825-1 in their
most current version.
-
Observe the legal and local regulations applicable to the operation of
laser units.

Introduction
3.4 Prevention of erroneous measurements
3.4.1 Rough surfaces
On a rough surface (e.g. coarse plaster), measure against the center of the illuminated
area. To avoid measuring to the bottom of gaps in the surface use a target plate, see
10 Accessories on page 138 or board.
3.4.2 Transparent surfaces
To avoid measuring errors, do not measure against transparent surfaces such as
colorless liquids (such as water) or (dust-free) glass. In case of unfamiliar materials
and liquids, always carry out a trial measurement.
Erroneous measurements can occur when aiming through panes of glass,
or if there are several objects in the line of sight.
3.4.3 Wet, smooth, or high-gloss surfaces
1
2
Aiming at an “acute” angle deflects the laser beam. The LLB may receive a signal
that is too weak or it may measure the distance targeted by the deflected laser
beam.
If aiming at a right angle, the LLB may receive a signal that is too strong.
3.4.4 Inclined, round surfaces
Measurement is possible as long as there is enough target surface area for the laser
spot.
3.4.5 Multiple reflections
Erroneous measurements can occur in the case if the laser beam is reflected from
other objects than the target. Avoid any reflecting object along the measurement path.

4 Technical data
4.1 Measuring accuracy
The measuring accuracy corresponds to the ISO-recommendation ISO/R 1938-1971
with a statistical confidence level of 95.4% (i.e. ± twice the standard deviation ơ, refer
to diagram on the right). The typical measuring accuracy relates to average conditions
for measuring. It is ± 1.5 mm for the LLB65-00100 and ± 3 mm for theLLB65-00101,
as well as ± 1 mm for the LLB500-00100 and ± 3 mm for the LLB500-00101, valid in
the tracking mode.
The maximum measuring error relates to unfavorable conditions such as:
-
Highly reflective surfaces (e.g. reflector tapes)
-
Operation at the limits of the permitted temperature range, adaptation to
ambient temperature canceled
-
Very bright ambient conditions, strong heat shimmer
and can be up to ± 2 mm for LLB65-00100 and LLB500-00100, as well as ± 5 mm for
LLB65-00101 and LLB500-00101.
The LLB does not compensate changes of atmospheric environment. These changes
can influence the accuracy if measuring long distances (> 150 m with LLB-500) under
conditions very different from
●

●
20°C,
60% relative humidity
and 953 mbar air pressure.
The influences of the atmospheric environment are described in

5 Interface information’s
5.1 PROFIBUS-DP interface
PROFIBUS is a continuous, open, digital communication system with a broad range of
applications, particularly in manufacturing and process automation. PROFIBUS is
suitable for fast, time-sensitive and complex communication tasks.
PROFIBUS communication is based on the international standards IEC 61158 and
IEC 61784. The application and engineering aspects are defined in the PROFIBUS
User Organization guidelines. These serve to fulfill the user requirements for a
manufacturer independent and open system where the communication between
devices from different manufacturers is guaranteed without modification of the
devices.
The Installation Guideline for PROFIBUS-DP/FMS (order no.: 2.111, describes the
installation and wiring recommendations for RS 485 transmission) and further
information on PROFIBUS is available from the PROFIBUS User Organization:

5.1.1 DP Communication protocol
The laser measuring devices support the DP communication protocol, which is
designed for fast data exchange on the field level. The basic functionality is defined by
the performance level V0. This includes cyclic data exchange, as well as the station,
module and channel-specific diagnosis.

5.2 Analog interface
The analog output of the LLB is a current source (0…20 mA or 4…20 mA). It is
capable of driving loads up to 500 The analog output at LLB-65 has an accuracy of
± 0.2% full scale and at LLB-500 an accuracy of ± 0.1% full scale.

R = Range
ConfMaxDist = Distance programmed for the max. output current
ConfMinDist = Distance programmed for the min. output current
D = Divisor: LLB-65 = 500

Example:
The configured measurement range is 0…20 m and the actual measured distance is
14 m. This results in a measurement uncertainty of ±0.2 m (1 % of 20 m), which
includes all parameters (temperature drift, sensor accuracy, linearity, target color etc.).
The uncertainty decreases, if the ambient temperature is stable.

6.1 Mounting
Three M4 threaded holes in the bottom of the LLB make it easy to mount the
device.
6.2 Alignment of the laser beam
Alignment of the laser beam is often difficult when the target is far away, as the laser
spot is not visible. An optional telescopic viewfinder is available which simplifies
alignment significantly. Please refer to chapter 10 Accessories on page 138 for a
description of the viewfinder.

6.3.1 Wiring of Digital Input DI1
The Digital Output DO1 can be configured as a Digital Input (DI1). This is useful for
triggering measurements by means of an external switch or push button.
Low level: UDI1 < 2 V DC
High level: UDI1 > 13 V DC and UDI1 < 30 V DC
Using the Digital Input DI1 disables the Digital Output DO1.
Configuration see chapter “Digital Input / Output 1” on page 120.
For safety reasons, always use a resistor to protect the connection terminal.

6.3.2 Wiring of the Digital Outputs DO1, DO2, DOE
The LLB contains two digital outputs for level monitoring (DO 1 and DO 2) and one
digital output for error signalization (DO E). These outputs are open drain outputs as
shown in Figure 3 and can drive up to 200 mA. Maximum switching voltage is
30 V DC. In the ON state, the FET transistor is electro conductive.

6.4 PROFIBUS-DP interface
6.4.1 RS485 Data transmission technology
All devices are connected in a bus structure (line). Up to 32 subscribers (master or
slaves) can be connected together in a segment.
The bus is terminated with an active bus termination at the beginning and end of each
segment. For stable operation, it must be ensured that both bus terminations are
always supplied with voltage. The bus termination can be switched on about a screw
plug in the upper part of the laser housing.
Repeaters (signal amplifiers) have to be used with more than 32 subscribers or to
expand the network scope in order to connect the various bus segments.
All cables used must conform with the PROFIBUS specification for the following
copper data wire parameters:

is automatically recognized by the laser. It is selected for all devices on the bus at the
time of commissioning the system.

A shielded data cable must be used to achieve high electromagnetic interference
stability. The shielding should be connected with low resistance to protective ground
using large shield clips at both ends. It is also important that the data line is routed
separate from current carrying cables if at all possible. At data speed 1.5 Mbit/s,
drop lines should be avoided under all circumstances.
About the connector plugs in the upper part of the laser housing the inward and
outward data cables can be connected separately. This avoids drop lines.
The PROFIBUS guidelines and other applicable standards and guidelines are
to be observed to insure safe and stable operation!
In particular, the applicable EMC directive and the shielding and grounding
guidelines must be observed!

7.1 Device Master File (GSD)
In order to achieve a simple plug-and-play configuration for PROFIBUS, the
characteristic communication features for PROFIBUS devices were defined in the
form of an electronic device datasheet (device master file, GSD file).
The defined file format allows the projection system to easily read the device master
data of the PROFIBUS measuring system and automatically take it into account when
configuring the bus system.
The GSD file is a component of the measuring system and has the file
name"TR010D65.gse" (English). The measuring system also includes two bitmap
files with the names "TR0D65N.bmp" and "TR0D65S.bmp", which show the
measuring system in normal operation as well as with a fault.
The files are on the Software/Support CD:

7.2 ID number
Every PROFIBUS slave and every Class 1 master must have an ID number. It is
required so that a master can identify the type of the connected device without
significant protocol overhead. The master compares the ID numbers of the devices
connected with the ID numbers of the projection data specified in the projection tool.
The transfer of utility data only starts once the correct device types have been
connected with the correct station addresses on the bus. This achieves a high level of
security against projection errors.
The measuring system has the ID number 0D65 (hex).

7.3 Starting up on the PROFIBUS
Before the measuring system can be accepted for "Data_Exchange", the master must
firstly initialize the measuring system at start-up. The resulting data exchange between
the master and the measuring system (slave) is divided into the parameterization,
configuration and data transfer phases.
It is checked whether the projected nominal configuration agrees with the actual
device configuration. The device type, the format and length information as well as the
number of inputs and outputs must agree in this check. The user is therefore reliably
protected against parameterization errors.
If the check was successful, it is switched over into the DDLM_Data_Exchange mode.
In this mode, the measuring system e.g. sends its actual position, and the preset
adjustment function can be performed.

8 Parameterization and configuration
Parameterization
Parameterization means providing a PROFIBUS-DP slave with certain information required for
operation prior to commencing the cyclic exchange of process data. The measuring system
requires e.g. data for Resolution, Count direction etc.
Normally the configuration program provides an input mask for the PROFIBUS-DP master with
which the user can enter parameter data or select from a list. The structure of the input mask is
stored in the device master file. The number and type of the parameter to be entered by the user
depends on the choice of nominal configuration.
The configuration described as follows contains configuration and parameter data
coded in their bit and byte positions. This information is e.g. only of significance in
troubleshooting or with bus master systems for which this information has to be
entered manually.
Modern configuration tools provide an equivalent graphic interface for this purpose.
Here the bit and byte positions are automatically managed in the "background". The
configuration example on page 124 illustrates this again.
Configuration
The definition of the I/O length, I/O data type etc. takes place automatically for most bus
masters. This information only has to be entered manually for a few bus masters.
Configuration means that the length and type of process data must be specified and how it is to
be treated. The configuration program normally provides an input list for this purpose, in which
the user has to enter the corresponding identifiers.
As the measuring system supports several possible configurations, the identifier to be entered is
preset dependent on the required nominal configuration, so that only the I/O addresses need to
be entered. The identifiers are stored in the device master file.
The measuring system uses a different number of input and output words on the PROFIBUS
dependent on the required nominal configuration.

8.4 Preset adjustment function
Risk of injury and damage to property by an actual value jump when the
Preset adjustment function is performed!
 The preset adjustment function should only be performed when the
measuring system is at rest, otherwise the resulting actual value jump must
be permitted in the program and application!

In order that the preset adjustment function can be used, the function must be
activated, see chapter “Offset” on page 118!
The measuring system can be adjusted to an arbitrary position value within the
measuring range via the PROFIBUS.
This is achieved by setting the most significant bit 231 of the output data.
The preset adjustment value sent in the data bytes with the rising flank of the bit
"Preset execution" is adopted as the position value.
There is no acknowledgement of the process via the inputs.

8.5.2 Offset value
Specification of an offset value for the position output. The Offset is provided for a
durable shift of the zero point. The entered value refers to the measuring reference,
see "Physical dimensions" on page 91. The displayed value arises from the offsetvalue + current actual position. The transfer of the entered offset-value is performed in
the parameter setting phase. Condition for this is that under the parameter Offset
the selection Offset was carried out, see page 118.
The input occurs with the resolution defined under parameter Resolution, see
page 117.
The Preset function deletes the Offset adjusted before and sets the measuring
system to the given Preset value.

8.5.3 Measuring cycle
With the measuring cycle the sampling rate of the distance measuring is adjusted. The
value 0 adjusts automatically the fastest sampling rate. The measurement can need at
LLB-65 0.15 up to approx. 4 s and at LLB-500 0.04 up to approx. 4 s depends on the
surface condition. The value 0xFF deactivates this function and the laser diode is
switched off. 1 digit corresponds the time of one second. Thus, sampling rates of 1 s
to approx. 4 min. can be adjusted.

Description
Default
Digital Input DI1 = inactive,
Digital Output DO1 = active
The configuration of the output is carried out in
Output:
Digital Output 1 accordance with the parameters Digital Output 1
ON/OFF, page 121.
Output circuit see chap. 6.3.2 on page 95.
Input:
Single
measurement
Digital Input DI1 = active,
Digital Output DO1 = inactive
Input circuit see chap. 6.3.1 on page 95.
With the positive edge at the input a single distance
measurement is executed. For that purpose the
parameter “Measuring cycle” must be adjusted to the
value “255” decimal. The position value will be stored,
until the next triggering is performed.
Input:
Continuous
measurement
Digital Input DI1 = active,
Digital Output DO1 = inactive
Input circuit see chap. 6.3.1 on page 95.
With the positive edge at the input the distance
measurement is executed. The distance measuring is
continued as long as the falling edge of the present signal
level is recognized.
Note:
For that purpose the parameter “Measuring cycle” must
be adjusted to the value “255” decimal. The distance
measuring is performed automatically as fast as possible.

8.5.10 Digital Outputs 1 and 2 ON/OFF
Sets the distance levels at which the digital outputs are switched ON and OFF with a
hysteresis.
The input occurs with the resolution defined under parameter Resolution, see
page 117.
Two different situations are possible:
ON Distance > OFF Distance
The ON switching point of the
hysteresis is larger than the OFF
switching
point.
With
an
increasing distance, the digital
output is switched on (open drain
output is closed) when the
distance
exceeds
the
ON
switching point. With a decreasing
distance, the digital output is
switched off (open drain output is
open) when the distance falls
below the OFF switching point.
ON Distance < OFF Distance
The ON switching point of the
hysteresis is smaller than the
OFF switching point. With a
decreasing distance, the digital
output is switched on (open
drain output is closed) when
the distance falls below the ON
switching point. With an
increasing distance, the digital
output is switched off (open
drain output is open) when the
distance exceeds the OFF
switching point.

Troubleshooting and diagnosis options
9.3 Use of the PROFIBUS diagnosis
In a PROFIBUS system, the PROFIBUS masters provides the so-called host system,
e.g. a PLC-CPU, with process data. If there is no slave on the bus or it is no longer
accessible, or the slave reports a fault itself, the master must notify the host system of
the fault in one form or another. There are several possibilities here, whose evaluation
is solely decided by the application in the host system.
Generally a host system is not stopped by the failure of just one component on the
bus, but must react to the failure in an appropriate way in accordance with the safety
regulations. Normally the master firstly provides the host system with a summary
diagnosis, which the host system reads cyclically from the master, and through which
the user is informed of the state of the individual clients on the bus. If a client is
reported defective in the summary diagnosis, the host can request further data from
the master (slave diagnosis), which then allows a detailed evaluation of the reasons
for the fault. The reports obtained in this way can be generated from the master if the
affected slave fails to respond to the master's polling or they may come directly from
the slave if it reports a fault itself. The generation or reading of a diagnosis report
between the master and slave takes place automatically and does not need to be
programmed by the user.
Besides the standard diagnosis information, the measuring system also provide an
extended diagnosis report according to the profile for encoders from the PROFIBUS
User Organization. Order number: 3.062.

9.3.2.12 Operating hours counter
Extended diagnosis, bytes 28-31
The diagnosis bytes represent an operating hours counter, which is incremented by
one digit every 6 minutes. The measurement unit is therefore 0.1 hours.
If the function is not supported, the operating hours counter is set to the maximum
value FFFFFFFF (hex).
The encoders count the operating hours. In order to keep the bus load low, a
diagnosis telegram with the latest counter reading is sent, but only after each
parameterization or if a error has to be reported, however not if everything is working
correctly and only the counter has changed. The state of the last parameterization is
therefore always shown in the online diagnosis.
9.3.2.13 Offset value
Extended diagnosis, bytes 32-35
The diagnosis bytes show the offset value to the absolute position of the scan, which
is calculated when carrying out the preset function or offset.
9.3.2.14 Manufacturer's offset value
Extended diagnosis, bytes 36-39
The diagnosis bytes show an additional offset value to the absolute position of the
scan, which is calculated when carrying out the preset function or offset.
9.3.2.15 Number of steps per revolution
Extended diagnosis, bytes 40-43
Not relevant for linear measuring systems, fixed to 0x00 00 00 00.
9.3.2.16 Total measuring range
Extended diagnosis, bytes 44-47
The diagnosis bytes show the projected measurement length in steps.
9.3.2.17 Serial number
Extended diagnosis, bytes 48-57
The diagnosis bytes show the serial number of the encoder. If this function is not
supported, asterisks ********** (hex code 0x2A) are displayed.

9.3.2.18 Manufacturer's diagnoses
The measuring system does not support further manufacturer's diagnoses.
Important information
According to the PNO encoder profile, an encoder must set the bits 'Ext.diag'
(extended diagnostic information available) and 'Stat.diag' (static error) in the event
of an internal error being detected in the station status. This means that, in case of
error, the encoder stops providing position data and is removed from the process
image by the PROFIBUS master until the error is no more present. The encoder is
included automatically into the process image as soon as the error was eliminated.
At present only the alarm "Position error" and the warning “Perm. Temperature
exceeded” is supported in the profile.
Further warnings aren't available and will be set to the default values prescribed by
the profile.
