1. General
This document describes the overview of “System Description Blu-ray Disc Rewritable Format Part3:
Audio Visual Basic Specifications Version 4.0” (hereafter BD-RE Part3 V4.0) by referring to “System
Description Blu-ray Disc Rewritable Format Part3: Audio Visual Basic Specifications V2.1” (hereafter
BD-RE Part3 V2.1).
2. Difference from BD-RE Part3 V2.1 (BDAV)
While BD-RE Part3 V2.1 is designed as a recording application format for a BD-RE or BD-R disc with
25GB or 50GB capacity, BD-RE Part3 V4.0 is designed for a newly introduced BD-RE or BD-R disc
with 100GB (triple layer) or 128GB (quadruple layer) capacity.
From technical viewpoint, BD-RE Part3 V4.0 is almost same as BD-RE Part3 V2.1, but extended to
realize longer recording time on the BD-RE/R disc with 100GB or 128GB capacity.
Note: The overview of BDAV logical format is described in White Paper of BD-RE Part3 V2.1.
