Tridonic production site Dornbirn enters the age of LED
Control gear for the technology of the future is now being manufactured in Dornbirn
Dornbirn, 13 November 2012 – Tridonic has started up the production of LED
control gear also in Dornbirn. The sophisticated and efficient
manufacturing technology at the factory in the Färbergasse is now also
being employed to make products for the technology of the future LED.
The products manufactured are known as converters. They are already in
production at other Tridonic sites. These ensure that LED luminaires are
powered with the correct voltage. LEDs are seen as the technology which will
increasingly replace conventional light sources such as fluorescent lamps in the
coming years. These semiconductor light sources need considerably less energy
than conventional lamps. They are operated by electronic ballasts which are
already successfully produced in Dornbirn. Tridonic has made a name for itself
with these products in the lighting industry and supplies to luminaire
manufacturers around the globe.
The market for LED luminaires is growing rapidly and creating a corresponding
demand for the appropriate converters on the part of manufacturers. The first
series production of these electronic devices is now running in the Färbergasse.
Tridonic customers fit these devices directly into the luminaire. They represent
the heart of the lighting installation and ensure its energy-efficient operation.
Future plans for Tridonic’s Dornbirn plant include the production of LED modules
as a further move into the age of LED. These are printed circuit boards equipped
with LEDs which are installed in the luminaire as light source. The first series of
tests is currently ongoing at the Färbergasse site.
At the same time, Tridonic is focusing continuous effort on ensuring the
competiveness of the brand’s production operations. A new testing unit is
currently being started up which can be used to perform all final inspection tests
for virtually every product type made. Products to be tested can be placed on
carrier plates at high speed as no tools are required. Once the respective
software has been loaded, the testing tools can identify the product and carry out
the appropriate tests. This means significantly shorter cycle times and lower
tooling costs. The time required for changing over the testing tools is also very
short. This concept has been developed in-house by Tridonic specialists. Already
last year the entire production area and with it the production process was
optimised. In addition, a new ventilation system has been installed, resulting in a
further improvement in working conditions.
