OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
The Digital Recording Camera Utility Software 1.5 is a software program which is used for
manipulating images on a computer which have been captured using the digital recording
camera.
The following operating environment is required in order to use this software.
• OS: Windows 98 Second Edition (SE)/Windows Me/Windows 2000
• CPU: Pentium CPU, or other CPU with comparable processing speed (233 MHz Pentium II or
higher is recommended)
• Memory: 64 MB or more (128 MB or more recommended)
• Available Hard Disk Space: 100 MB or more (200 MB or more recommended)
• Monitor: 640x480 pixels (1024x768 pixels or higher recommended), 256 color or 16-bit color
display required
• Drive: CD-ROM drive
• Communications ports: USB connector, RS-232C connector (transmission speed 9600 bps or
more)
USB connections are only possible with computers that have a USB port as standard
equipment and which have Windows 98 Se or later pre-installed (correct operation is not
guaranteed if the system has been upgraded from Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 to Windows
98 Se or later).

ABOUT THIS MANUAL
• This manual is designed for users with the following computer skills:
• Knowledge of basic computer operations
• Knowledge of basic mouse operations
• Knowledge of how to open, close, move, minimize and maximize windows
• Knowledge of how to move from a folder to another folder
Detailed information about the operations listed above can be found in the printed or on-line
manuals accompanying the computer or operating system software.
• Sanyo Utility Software (Windows 98 SE/Me/2000): This program is used to transfer still image
(JPEG), data between your computer and camera.
• In this manual, the English versions of the Microsoft® Windows® 98 operating system, the
Microsoft® Windows® Millennium Edition operating system and the Microsoft® Windows®
2000 operating system are all referred to as Windows.

CONNECTIONS
Connecting a USB cable
Connect your USB cable to the camera and to the computer. Stop the camera from recording
while connecting the USB cable.
Once the cable is connected, the camera will appear in Windows Explorer as a removable disk.
The connection will be recognized automatically, so that the removable disk indicator will
disappear from Windows when the cable is disconnected.
Connecting a RS-232C cable
Connect your RS-232C cable to the camera and to the serial connector of the computer.
Run the software and change the camera settings so that the camera and the computer can
communicate with each other.
If communication from the computer stops for approximately 20 seconds, then communication
from the camera will also stop automatically.
To re-open communication with the camera, use the software to momentarily pause the camera
settings, and then re-connect the camera.
Note: Never turn off the computer power while the camera and the computer
are connected.
If you turn off the computer power by mistake, it may not be possible to
halt communication with the camera. If this happens, close the software
and run it again to stop communication with the camera.

INSTALLING THE USB DEVICE DRIVER
Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable, and then use the accessory
Application Software CD-ROM to install the USB device driver.

Insert the CD-ROM disk into the CD-ROM drive.
Turn on the power for the camera, and then connect the camera to the computer
using the USB cable.
Click “Next”.
Select “Search for the best driver for your
device (Recommended)”, and then click
“Next”.
Specify the locations to search.
Select Specify a location:, click Browse...,
and type D:\Driver.
The drive letter D is an example. Use the letter
which corresponds to the CD-ROM drive on
your computer.

Click “Next”.
The dialog box shown appears.
Click Finish.
After a short time the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears again.
Install the SANYO Digital Camera Controller (the accessory Application Software).
Click “Next”.
Select “Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)”, and then click
“Next”.
10 Specify the locations to search.
Select Specify a location:, click Browse..., and type D:\Driver.
The drive letter D is an example. Use the letter which corresponds to the CD-ROM drive on
your computer.
11 Click “Next”, and then click “Finish”.
This completes the installation of the USB driver.

Use the accessory Application Software (CD-ROM) to install the software.

Turn on the power for the computer.
Once Windows has loaded, continue to the next step.
Insert the CD-ROM disk into the CD-ROM drive.
Click “Start” and then click “Run”.
Type “D:\Setup.exe”.
Replace D with the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive.
Click “OK”.
After a short while, the installation window
appears.
Note: From this point onward, follow the instructions from the installation program which
appear on the screen to complete the installation. The installation program is preset so
that the software can be installed correctly.

Click “Next”.
Select the folder for installing the program.
• The default installation directory (C:\Program
Files\SanyoDRCUtility 1.5) appears in the
Destination Folder box. There is usually no
need to change this. (The C drive letter is an
example. It will be replaced by the drive letter
for your computer’s hard disk.)
• If you would like to change the Destination
Folder, click Browse.... The Choose Folder
dialog box appears. Type the path for the
Destination Folder in the Path box.
• If you click Browse... by mistake, click Cancel
in the Choose Folder dialog box.
Check the details which appear on the screen, and then click “Next”.
Follow the instructions which appear on
the screen.
Installation will then start. If the installation
proceeds normally, the dialog box shown
appears. Click Yes. A shortcut will then be
created on the desktop. If you do not want a
shortcut to be created, click No.
After installation is finished, restart your
computer.

Removing the Software
To remove the software from your computer, click Start, point to Programs, point to
SanyoDRCUtility 1.5 and click Uninstall.

Click “Yes” in the uninstall confirmation
window.
The uninstall window appears.
When the uninstallation has finished, click
“OK”.

MAIN UTILITY SOFTWARE FUNCTIONS
The main functions of the utility are given below. Read the detailed sections for further
explanations of whichever procedure you would like to use.

the software runs for the first time after
installation, and also each time that you run the
software yourself.
The software can display the images which are
recorded and stored inside the computer. The

RUNNING AND CLOSING THE SOFTWARE
This section explains how to run and close the software.

Running the software
Click “Start”, point to “Programs”, point to
“SanyoDRCUtility 1.5” and click “Sanyo
DRC Utility”.
If you created a shortcut during the installation
process, you can simply double-click the Sanyo
DRC Utility icon on the desktop.

Entering the password
You need to enter a password in order to run the software. When the software is started,
the Software Password dialog box appears. This is the password which is needed in order to
run the software. Make sure that you do not forget the password.
If you do not want to set a password, click OK without typing in anything.

Type the password in the “New password”
box.
Type the password. The password can be up to
eight characters long, and must consist of
numbers.

Type the same password that you typed in
the “New password” box in the
“Verification” box, and then click “OK”.
The password is then checked.
When you click “OK”, the main window
appears.

If a password has been set, the Software Password dialog box appears each time you run the
software. Type in the password that has been set. If no password has been set, click OK without
typing in anything.

B Toolbar and Status Bar displays
The Tool Bar and Status Bar commands are located in the View menu on the menu bar. They
can be used to turn the toolbar and status bar displays on and off.

C Cascade display and Tile display
The Cascade and Tile commands are located in the Window menu on the menu bar. The
windows inside the working area can be arranged in one of these two ways. Select either
Cascade or Tile depending on which method suits you best.

The software can be used to display and download images that have been stored on the hard
disk inside the camera.

Click Open Camera Window.
You can also click Open Camera Window in
the File menu.
The Camera Window appears.
In the folder selection area, select the folder in the camera drive that contains the
image data that you would like to display.
The contents of the selected folder appear in the item selection area.

contains a “Split” command. You can use
the “Split” command to change the way

The software can display the images which are stored inside the camera in several ways. In
addition, if you double-click on a thumbnail image (or after selecting an image, click Open Image
Window in the File menu), the Image Window appears. (See page 27)

A thumbnail image and the file details for the
recorded images appear.
The default setting is for Large Thumbnails display.

Arranging thumbnails
The software lets you change the display order for the thumbnails. You can sort the thumbnails
according to properties such as name and recording date.

Set the sorting order to ascending or descending if required.
On the View menu, point to Arrange Thumbnails and click Downward Order to sort in

Note:
• For folder A , 5 minutes’ worth of image data (900 files) starting from 15:35 on 13
March 2001 are stored in this folder. Refer to the Instruction Manual for the camera for
details on the folder recording structure.

• the first image in the folder was recorded during summer time, “S” appears immediately
after the date, and if it was recorded during standard time, “R” appears instead.

D Downloading the image data
The software can be used to download image data from the camera to the computer.

Click the image to be downloaded.
The image is selected.
• You can use the SHIFT key and the CTRL key
to select more than one thumbnail at once.
• You can click Select All to select all thumbnails
which appear in the window. To unselect all
selected thumbnail, click Select All once more.
• To download a whole folder, select the folder
to be downloaded and then click Download.
Click “Download”.
The Select Folder dialog box appears.
Select the destination folder and then click
“OK”.
All of the selected image files will be
downloaded to the destination folder.
• Drives and folders can be opened by
double-clicking them.
• To cancel the download while it is in
progress, click Cancel.
• If you would like to create a new folder to
use as the destination folder, click New
Folder. The New Folder dialog box appears.
Type the folder name and then click OK. The
new folder is then created.
• If you click Set Filename, the Set Filename dialog box appears. You can then add a file
identifier before or after the filename if you wish. Up to five characters can be added as
the file identifier.
• If you click Stop during a download, no more images will be downloaded from that point
onward.

E Deleting image data
The software lets you delete image folder containing data inside the camera.

Click the folder to be deleted.
This selects the folder.
Note: The folder that can be deleted will vary
depending on the recording method used.
Only the folder described below can be
deleted. Other types of folder cannot be
deleted.
• Deletable alarm recording folder
PRE1, POST1, PRE2 and POST2 folder. If you select a PRE1 folder and delete it, all image files
inside that folder will be deleted.
• Deletable suspicion recording folder
5-minute interval folders. Folder which appear in the second level of the file hierarchy (folder
recorded at 5-minute intervals) in the folder selection area can be deleted.
• Deletable archive recording folder
Folders which appear in the folder selection area can be deleted.

Select Delete Folder in the Camera menu.
The Password Delete dialog box appears.
Type the password delete that has been
set for the camera into the Password box,
and then click OK.
A confirmation dialog box appears. Click OK to
delete the selected folder.
• Refer to the instruction manual for the digital
recording camera for details on using a
password delete.
• The password delete can also be changed
using the computer. (See page 39)

REFRESHING IMAGE DATA
If the loading of image data has been canceled before it had finished, such as during a
download, you can reload the image data by refreshing it. Thumbnail display when reading of
data has been canceled.
Click Reload.
The contents of the folder which is currently open
are updated, and the refreshed image data appears
in the item selection area.

The software can be used to display, save and print images which have been selected from the
Camera Window and Folder Window.
A Image Window
The following operations can be carried out from the Image Window.
• Enlarging and reducing the selected image
• Saving the selected image
• Printing the selected image
• Adjusting brightness and contrast
• Viewing images as a slide show

B Opening the Image Window
Double-click on an image file in the Camera
Window or Folder Window to display that
image.
• The Image Window opens and the selected
image file appears in the window.
• You can open more than one image window at
once.
Note: More than one Image Window can be open at the same time.
C Enlarging and reducing displayed images
The software lets you enlarge and reduce displayed images. The file size of the actual image does
not change, only the display size.
☞ Enlarging and reducing images
Click “Zoom IN” or “Zoom Out”.
• The image display is enlarged or reduced each
time you click the button.
• You can also select Zoom IN or Zoom Out from
the Window menu. The image is enlarged or
reduced.
☞ Returning the image display to its
original size
On the “Window” menu, click “Normal Size”.
The image returns to its original size.

D Saving selected images
The software lets you save images which appear in the Image Window onto the computer’s hard disk.
☞ Opening the Select Folder dialog box
Click “Save”.
You can also click Save in the File menu. The Select
Folder dialog box appears.
☞ Selecting the folder to save the image
Select the folder which the image is to be saved in.
If you would like to create a new folder to save the
image in, click New Folder.
The New Folder dialog box appears. Type the folder
name and then click “OK”.
☞ Saving the file
Click “OK” in the Select Folder dialog box.
The file is then saved.

E Printing selected images
The software lets you print images which appear in the Image Window.

Setting the page size

On the “File” menu, click “Page Setup”.
The Page Setup dialog box appears. Set the
paper size and change any other settings
required.

Click “OK”.
The Page Setup dialog box closes.

Printing

Click “Print”.
You can also click Print from the File menu.
The Print dialog box appears.

Set the printing options such as the
number of copies.
• If required, set the enlargement ratio as a
percentage. If you set the ratio to 100%, the
image will be printed at a size which exactly
fits the size of the paper selected.
• Under Positioning, click Up, Down, Left or
Right to adjust the printing position.
• Select Add Information. The filename and
file details will then be printed also.

Click “OK”.
Printing starts. You can click Cancel to cancel printing if required.

F Adjusting the brightness
You can change the brightness of the whole image using the Brightness slide bar.
☞ Adjusting the brightness
While clicking the Brightness slide bar, drag it
to the left or right.
• When the slide bar is dragged to the left, the
whole image becomes darker.
• When the slide bar is dragged to the right, the
whole image becomes brighter.
G Adjusting the contrast
You can change the contrast of the whole image using the Contrast slide bar.
☞ Adjusting the contrast
While clicking the Contrast slide bar, drag it to
the left or right.
• When the slide bar is dragged to the left, the
contrast becomes weaker.
• When the slide bar is dragged to the right, the
contrast becomes stronger.

H Slide shows
The images in a folder can be displayed in order automatically starting from the
currently-displayed image and continuing to the last image in the folder.
Each image is displayed for one second. If there are no images in the folder, the slide show
display cannot be selected.
☞ Setting the slide interval
Select the interval from the Slide show
drop-down list box.
• Manual ... Slides are advanced manually
• 1 ... Each slide is displayed
• 5 ... Every fifth slide is displayed
• 100 ... Every 100th slide is displayed
☞ Viewing slide shows
f : Displays the First image in the
currently-displayed image’s folder.
d : Starts slide show display in reverse (Previous)
order starting from the currently-displayed
image. If “Manual” has been selected, the
previous image is displayed.
b : Stops the slide show.
c : Starts slide show display in forward (Next)
order starting from the currently-displayed
image. If “Manual” has been selected, the
previous image is displayed.
e : Displays the Last image in the
currently-displayed image’s folder.
Note: Slide shows only display the images in the
selected folder.

CAMERA SETTINGS
The software can be used to make time, system and keyword settings for the camera using the
computer.
A Clock and summer time settings
This sets the internal camera clock. Summer time
can also be set.

Click Camera, point to Camera Setup and
click Clock Setup.
The Clock Setup dialog box appears.
Set the camera time.
☞ Setting the clock (Date/Time)
Select the items to be changed in the Year, Month,
Day and Time check boxes, and then directly type in
the numeric values, or click on the arrows to change
the existing values.
☞ Setting the date display format (Form)
Select the desired display format from the
drop-down list box.
MM/DD/YYYY: Month/Day/Year
DD/MM/YYYY: Day/Month/Year
YYYY/MM/DD: Year/Month/Day

Set the summer time.
☞ Setting summer time (Summer Time/Daylight Set)
When the setting time is reached, the camera time
automatically changes from standard time to
summer time.
When a check box is selected, you can click the
arrows to change the numeric values to set the
starting time (Start) and ending time (End) for
summer time.
Mode . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sets whether summer time is to be used or not.
ON: Summer time is used
OFF: Summer time is not used
Week . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sets the week and day.

Click Camera, point to Camera Setup and
click System Setup.
The System Setup dialog box appears.
Make the settings.
Select or unselect the check boxes to turn the
various settings on or off or to change the
numeric values.
☞ Setting backlight compensation (BLC
Control)
Sets whether backlight compensation is carried
out for the camera or not.
ON: Backlight compensation is carried out
OFF: Backlight compensation is not carried out
☞ Setting caution indicator operation (Caution LED)
You can set whether the caution indicator on the front panel of the camera lights or not
during capturing.
ON: Caution indicator lights
OFF: Caution indicator does not light
☞ Setting the suspicion recording frame rate (Suspicion Framerate)
Sets whether the number of frames that are recorded per second during suspicion recording.
1 FPS: Images are recorded at one frame per second
3 FPS: Images are recorded at three frames per second
☞ Setting suspicion recording looping (Suspicion Loop)
Selects whether the oldest images are deleted and overwritten or not when the suspicion
recording area becomes full.
ON: Oldest images are deleted and overwritten
OFF: Images are not overwritten and a warning is displayed
☞ Flickerless setting (Flicker Less)
Sets whether the camera’s flickerless function is used or not.
ON: Flickerless function is used
OFF: Flickerless function is not used

C Hard disk capacity settings
The software can be used to change the camera’s hard disk capacity.

Click Camera, point to Camera Setup, point
to HDD Setup and click Space Setup.
The Space Setup dialog box appears.
Set the alarm recording capacity.
Suspicion Framerate . . . . Displays the current camera setting for the suspicion recording
frame rate.
Suspicion Shots . . . . . . . . Displays the number of suspicion images to be recorded.
Alarm Time . . . . . . . . . . . . Displays the total capturing time for pre-alarm recording and
post-alarm recording.
Pre Alarm . . . . . . . . . . . . . Lets you change the capacity of the pre-alarm recording area in
units of 5 minutes.
Post Alarm . . . . . . . . . . . . Lets you change the capacity of the post-alarm recording area
in units of 5 minutes.

D Hard disk initialization
The software can be used to set the capacities of the pre-alarm and post-alarm areas on the
camera’s hard disk and to initialize the hard disk.
A password must be entered in order to initialize the hard disk.

Click Camera, point to Camera Setup, point
to HDD Setup and click HDD Initialize.
The HDD Initialize Password dialog box appears.
Type the password and click OK.
If the password you typed matches the
password which has been set for the camera,
the HDD Initialize dialog box appears.
Set the capacities for the pre-alarm and post-alarm recording areas.
Suspicion Framerate . . . . Displays the current camera setting for the suspicion recording
frame rate.
Suspicion Shots . . . . . . . . Displays the number of suspicion images to be recorded.
Alarm Time . . . . . . . . . . . . Displays the total capturing time for pre-alarm recording and
post-alarm recording.

E Key word setting
You can use the software to set camera file IDs, camera IDs and comments.

Click Camera, point to Camera Setup and
click Key Word Setup.
The Key Word Setup dialog box appears.
Set the various keywords.
☞ Entering a file ID (File ID)
A file ID consists of a single character which can
be any one of the following 36 alphanumeric
characters.
The default file ID is “A”.
☞ Entering a camera ID (Camera ID)
A camera ID can consist of up to five characters which can be any of the following 36
alphanumeric characters, 11 symbols or a space.
☞ Entering a Comment (Comment)
A comment can consist of up to two lines, with a maximum of 18 characters per line. It can
contain characters which can be any of the following 36 alphanumeric characters, 11
symbols or a space.

F Image delete password setting
The software lets you set a password to be entered when deleting images from the camera.

Password Delete.
The Set Password Delete dialog box appears.
Type the old password in the password
box, and type the new password in the
New password box.
If you do not wish to enter a password when
deleting images from the camera, leave the
New password box empty and click OK.
Type the same password that you typed in
the “New password” box in the
“Verification” box, and then click “OK”.

G Hard disk initialization password setting
The software lets you set a password to be entered when initializing the camera’s hard disk.

H Camera operating time display
The software lets you display the time that has passed since the camera power was turned on.

The Camera Operating Time appears.

The camera operation time disappears.

CAMERA CONNECTION SETTINGS
The software can be used to set the communication parameters for the camera and computer.

Click Connection Setup.
You can also click Connection Setup from the
Camera menu. The Connection Setup dialog
box appears.
Select the communication port from the
drop-down list box.
Select the communication port which the
camera is connected to. If you select AUTO,
the communication port which the camera is
connected to is selected automatically.
Select the communication speed from the
drop-down list box.
Select a speed which is slower than the current
setting. If there are any problems with
communication, select an even slower speed.
Click “OK”.
Click Cancel to exit without changing the settings. When data is being transferred between
the computer and the camera, the setting parameters appear in the Communication port
and communication speed areas.
