on purchasng your new VTech product. Before usng ths product,
please read Important safety instructions on page of ths manual.
Ths manual has all the feature operatons and troubleshootng
necessary to nstall and operate your new VTech product. Please
revew ths manual thoroughly to ensure proper nstallaton and
operaton of ths nnovatve and feature rch VTech product.
Product introduction
BM2500 s an vdeo and audo montor whch conssts of one
baby unt (BM2500 BU) and one parent unt (BM2500 PU).
The parent unt may be shpped wth protectve stckers coverng
the dsplays. Remove the protectve stcker before use.
Important safety instructions
When usng your equpment, basc safety precautons should always
be followed to reduce the rsk of ire, electrc shock and njury,
ncludng the followng:
1. Follow all warnngs and nstructons marked on the product.
2. Adult setup s requred.
3. Ths product s ntended as an ad. It s not a substtute for
responsble and proper adult supervson and should not be used
as such.
4. Ths product s not ntended for use as a medcal montor.
5. Do not use ths product near water. For example, do not use t next
to a bath tub, wash bowl, ktchen snk, laundry tub or swmmng
pool, or n a wet basement or shower.
6. CAUTION: Use only the battery ndcated n ths manual. There
may be a rsk of exploson f a wrong type of battery s used for the
parent unt. Do not dspose of batteres n a ire.
7. Use only the adapters ncluded wth ths product. Incorrect adapter
polarty or voltage can serously damage the product.

8. The power adapters are ntended to be correctly orented n a
vertcal or loor mount poston. The prongs are not desgned to
hold the plug n place f t s plugged nto a celng, under-the-table
or cabnet outlet.
9. Unplug ths product from the wall outlet before cleanng. Do not
use lqud or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleanng.
10. Unplug the power cords before replacng the battery.
11. Do not cut off the adapters to replace them wth other plugs, as
ths causes a hazardous stuaton.
12. Do not allow anythng to rest on the power cords. Do not nstall ths
product where the cords may be walked on or crmped.
13. Ths product should be operated only from the type of power
source ndcated on the markng label. If you are not sure of the
type of power supply n your home, consult your dealer or local
power company.

14. Do not overload wall outlets or use an extenson cord.
15. Do not place ths product on an unstable table, shelf, stand or
other unstable surfaces.
16. Ths product should not be placed n any area where proper
ventlaton s not provded. Slots and openngs n the back or
bottom of ths product are provded for ventlaton. To protect
them from overheatng, these openngs must not be blocked by
placng the product on a soft surface such as a bed, sofa or rug.
Ths product should never be placed near or over a radator or
heat regster.
17. Never push objects of any knd nto ths product through the slots
because they may touch dangerous voltage ponts or create a
short crcut. Never spll lqud of any knd on the product.
18. To reduce the rsk of electrc shock, do not dsassemble ths
product, but take t to an authorzed servce faclty. Openng or
removng parts of the product other than specied access doors
may expose you to dangerous voltages or other
rsks. Incorrect reassemblng can cause electrc shock when the
product s subsequently used.
19. You should test the sound recepton every tme you turn on the
unts or move one of the components.
20. Perodcally examne all components for damage.
21. Be aware of possble loss of prvacy whle usng publc arwaves.
Conversatons may be pcked up by other nursery montors,
cordless phones, scanners, etc.
22. Chldren should be supervsed to ensure that they do not play wth
the product.
23. The product s not ntended for use by persons (ncludng chldren)
wth reduced physcal, sensory or mental capabltes, or lack
of experence and knowledge, unless they have been gven
supervson or nstructon concernng use of the applance by a
person responsble for ther safety.

Cautions
1. Use and store the product at a temperature between 0oC
and 40oC.
2. Do not expose the product to extreme cold, heat or drect sunlght.
Do not put the product close to a heatng source.
3. The battery pack should not be exposed to excessve heat such
as brght sunshne or ire.
4. Make sure the baby unt and the adapter cord are always out of
reach of the baby, at least 1 metre away from the baby or crb, to
avod a possble strangulaton hazard.
5. Never place the baby unt nsde the baby’s crb or playpen.
6. Never cover the baby unt or parent unt(s) wth anythng such as
a towel or a blanket.
7. Other electronc products may cause nterference wth your
vdeo and audo montor. Try nstallng your vdeo and audo
montor as far away from these electronc devces as possble:
wreless routers, rados, cellular telephones, ntercoms, room
montors, televsons, personal computers, ktchen applances
and cordless telephones.

Baby unit installation
You can power up the baby unt by connectng t to AC power.
Install the baby unt as shown below.
Bundle the power adapter cord neatly wth a twst te.The baby
unt turns on when t s powered up.

Baby unit installation options
The baby unt s ready for tabletop use. Use the provded wall mount f
you want to mount t on a wall. Make sure to test the recepton and the
baby unt poston before completng the wall mountng nstallaton
(see Test your baby monitor before use on page 18).
Tabletop to wall mount installation
Check for recepton strength and camera angle before drllng
the holes.
1. Adjust the baby unt angle.
2. Use a pencl to mark two holes n parallel. Make sure
they are the same dstance apart as the wall mount at the
bottom of the baby unt.

3. Drll two holes n the wall (7/32” drll bt). If you drll the
holes nto a stud, nsert the screws nto the holes. Tghten
the screws untl only 1/4 nch of the screws are exposed.
4. Algn the holes on the wall mount wth the screws on the
wall. Slde the wall mount down untl t locks nto place.

Parent unit battery installation
You can power up the parent unt by connectng t to AC power
or to the rechargeable battery provded. Even f the parent unt
s connected to AC power, we recommend you also nstall the
battery. Ths guarantees contnual operaton n case of a power
outage.
Install the battery as shown below.
1. Slde and lft to open the battery compartment cover.
2. Plug the battery connector securely nto the socket.

compartment, then place down and slde t towards the

The operatng tme for usng the rechargeable battery s
short. If you want to montor your baby for a long tme, we
recommend you connect the parent unt to AC power.
If the parent unt wll not be used for a long tme, dsconnect
and remove the battery to prevent possble leakage.
Use only the battery suppled wth ths product.

Parent unit battery charging
The parent unt turns on after you have nstalled the parent
unt battery or connected the parent unt to AC power (see
pages 5 to 7). The battery con ndcates the battery status
(see the table below). The parent unt battery s fully charged
after 12 hours of contnuous chargng.
When the parent unit is operating in battery mode and the
battery is low, you need to charge the parent unit without
interruption for at least 30 minutes to give the parent unit
enough charge to use for a short time. When operating in low
battery condition, the parent unit displays . The
light
on the parent unit flashes and the parent unit plays short
beeps to alert you.
The following table summarizes the battery charge indicators
and actions to take.

Parent unit overview
1.
Visual sound indicator
Vsual sound ndcator shows the sound level detected
from baby unt. It also shows the volume level durng
speaker volume settng.
Sound level detected from the baby unt s ndependent
from the volume level set at the parent unt.

Green lghts ndcate a moderate
sound level detected from the baby unt; or
Level 1 to Level 3 of the speaker volume settng.

Red lghts ndcate a hgher sound

Camera selection

You can select the screen to vew mages from a
partcular baby unt, or vew all baby unts n Patrol Mode.
Zoom

You can zoom n and out whle vewng mages.
Brightness
•
You can change the brghtness of the screen.
Sensitivity
•
You can change the sound senstvty level of the baby
unt. It montors the baby unt on pckng up any sound
actvtes n your baby’s room.
Sound activation
•
You can turn on or off the sound actvaton feature to
check on your baby whenever there s sound n the
baby room.
Lullaby control
•
You can select from a total of 5 lullabes to play, or
play all lullabes.
Temperture
•
You can set the temperature format of the baby unt.
Pairing
•
The baby unts and parent unt provded are already
pared. You can add or replace baby unts (purchased
separately) to your baby montor system.

Positioning the video and audio monitor
Place the parent unt wthn the operatng range (see below)
of the baby unt. We recommend you place the parent unt
at least 1 metre away from the baby unt to avod audo
feedback. If you stll experence audo feedback, move the
parent unt and the baby unt farther apart.
For better mage qualty, do not place the baby unt too far
away from your baby.
For desktop usage and/or wall mountng the baby unt, you
can refer to page 3 of ths manual.
Operating range
The operatng range of the vdeo and audo montor s up
to 300 metres outdoors or 50 metres ndoors. The actual
operatng range may vary dependng on the envronmental
condtons and other nterferences such as walls, doors and
other obstructons.
Audio settings
The baby unt may not detect sounds when the senstvty
level s set below a certan level. You may need to ncrease
the senstvty level (see page 21).
You may need to turn the speaker volume louder on the
parent unt to hear the sounds transmtted from the baby unt
(see page 19).
It s the caregver’s responsblty to stay close enough to
take care of any eventualty.

Test your video and audio monitor before use
You may test the baby montor before ntal use, and at
regular tmes thereafter.
To test your video and audio monitor:
1. Place the parent unt and the baby unt n the same room to
test the product. Make sure the baby unt s at least 1 metre
away from the parent unt.
2. Press
on the baby unt. The POWER lght turns on.
3. Press and hold
on the baby unt. The POWER lght
turns off.
4. Press and hold

changes the lullaby playback volume.

baby unt, or vew all baby unts.
If you select All to vew the mages, the screen swtches to
vew another baby unt automatcally after some tme. The

Adjust the LCD brightness of the parent unit
You can adjust the brghtness of the parent unt screen from
Level 1 to Level 5. The LCD brghtness s preset to Level 3.

Adjust the sound sensitivity of the baby unit
You can use the parent unt to change the sound senstvty
level of the baby unts from Level 1 to Level 5. The hgher the
sound senstve s set, the more senstve the baby unt s n
detectng sounds for transmttng to the parent unt.
1. Press MENU/SELECT when the parent unt s not n use.

Turn on or off the sound activation
When the parent unt screen s turned off manually, you can
set the screen to be turned on automatcally whenever there
are sounds detected from the baby unts. The parent unt
screen wll turn off automatcally when no sounds are detected
from the baby unts wthn 20 seconds.

You hear a beep when the screen turns on or off due to sound

Lullaby control on the parent unit
There are 5 lullabes to choose from, and the chosen lullaby
plays repeatedly for approxmately 20 mnutes. You can
choose a lullaby to play to comfort your baby.
1. Press MENU/SELECT when the parent unt s not n use.

to play all, or to stop playng lullaby.

If you select

There are 5 lullabes to choose from, and the chosen lullaby
plays repeatedly for approxmately 20 mnutes.

Talk function
You can use the TALK functon of the parent unt to talk and
comfort your baby.
•
Press and hold TALK when the parent unt s vewng
partcular baby unt. Speak towards the mcrophone on the
parent unt. Your voce s broadcast to the baby unt.
• If the speaker volume of the parent unt s set to OFF,
t wll be reset to the default volume after you
press and hold TALK.
• Lullaby playback s paused when the parent unt s talkng
the baby unt. Lullaby playback resumes when the parent
unt inshes usng the TALK feature.
Night vision
The baby unt has nfrared LEDs that allow you to see your
baby clearly at nght or n a dark room. When the baby unt
detects low lght levels, the nfrared LEDs are swtched on
automatcally.
When the nfrared LEDs are on, the mage s n black and whte.
Ths s normal due to external lght sources.
Reset to default
You can reset the settngs to default values.
1. Press and hold MENU/SELECT when the parent unt s not
n use.
2. Contnue to hold MENU/SELECT and press
consecutvely
for three tmes.
3. Release MENU/SELECT and press MENU/SELECT agan
wthn one second.
System settngs are reset to default.

Portable use of parent unit
Slng s not ncluded. You may need to buy a slng for
portable usage.
1. Make sure battery s nstalled and charged. Unplug the
power adaptor.
2. Pnch the end of the slng and nsert t nto the slot on the
top of the parent unt.
3. Insert the one end of the slng nto the other end of the
slng, and fasten t.

Appendix
Parent unit battery
It takes up to 12 hours for the battery pack to be fully charged.
The standby tme vares dependng on the senstvty level you set, your
actual use and the lfespan of the battery.
The battery needs chargng when:
• A new battery pack s nstalled n the parent unt.
• The parent unt beeps four tmes every mnute.
• The battery pack s properly nstalled and no battery con dsplays
on the screen.
• LOW BATTERY and
lashes on the parent unt screen.
• The
lght lashes on the parent unt.
CAUTION:
To reduce the rsk of ire or njury, read and follow these nstructons:
• Use only the battery provded or equvalent. To order a replacement,
contact VTech on 1 300 369 193.
• Do not dspose of the battery pack n a ire. Check wth local waste
management codes for specal dsposal nstructons.
• Do not open or mutlate the battery pack. Released electrolyte s
corrosve and may cause burns or njury to the eyes or skn. The
electrolyte may be toxc f swallowed.
• Exercse care n handlng the battery pack n order not to create a
short crcut wth conductve materals.
• Charge the battery pack provded wth or dentied for use wth
ths product only n accordance wth the nstructons and lmtatons
specied n ths manual.
• Observe proper polarty orentaton between the battery and metallc
contacts.
• To prevent ire or shock hazard, do not expose ths product to water
or any type of mosture.

Troubleshooting
If you have dficulty wth ths product, please try the
suggestons below. For customer servce, contact VTech
on 1 300 369 193.
My video and audio monitor does not work at all.
• Make sure the baby unt and the parent unts are nstalled correctly

• If the battery s completely depleted, t may take up to 30 mnutes
to charge the parent unt before t can be used for a very short tme
(page 8).
• Remove and nstall the battery agan. If that stll does not work, t
may be necessary to purchase a new battery.
• Large obstructons may mpact the recepton. Try to relocate the
baby unt, away from large obstructons such as walls and doors.
• Other electronc products may cause nterference wth your vdeo
and audo montor. Try nstallng your vdeo and audo montor as
far away from these electronc devces as possble: wreless routers,
rados, cellular telephones, ntercoms, room montors, televsons,
personal computers, ktchen applances and cordless telephones.

you press and hold TALK. Make sure the parent unts and the baby
unt are at least 1 metre away from one another.
• You may have set the senstvty level too hgh. You may need to
adjust the senstvty level to a lower level to avod audo feedback
(page 21).
My parent unit plays any sounds from the baby unit and
I think it is too noisy.
• You may have set the senstvty level to the hghest level
(LEVEL 5). If you do so, the baby unt wll transmt any sounds
detected to the parent unts. You may need to adjust the senstvty
level to a lower level (page 21).
• You may need to adjust the speaker volume on the parent unt
(page 19).
My parent unit does not play any sound when there is
noise from the baby unit.

from these types of electronc devces.
The link between the baby unit and the parent unit is

Electrical storms
Electrcal storms can sometmes cause power surges harmful to
electronc equpment. For your own safety, take cauton when usng
electrcal applances durng storms.
Cleaning your video and audio monitor
Your vdeo and audo montor has a durable plastc casng that should
retan ts luster for many years. Clean t only wth a soft cloth slghtly
dampened wth water or mld soap. Do not use excess water or
cleanng solvents of any knd.
Remember that electrcal applances can cause serous njury f used when
you are wet or standng n water. If the baby unt and/or parent unts should
fall nto water, DO NOT RETRIEVE IT UNTIL YOU UNPLUG THE POWER
