INSTRUCTIONS-PARTS LIST 306–914 Rev. B Supersedes Rev. A, dated March 1966 This manual contains important warnings and information. READ AND KEEP FOR REFERENCE. INSTRUCTIONS 207–221 Pressure Relief Kit For use with 1:1, 5:1, & 9:1 ratio stubby pumps, to provide system component protection against fluid pressures over 900 psi (63 bar) caused by thermal expansion. 6. Connect the hoses and return the pump to service, according to the instructions in your separate pump manual. Pressure Relief Procedure WARNING To reduce the risk of serious injury when you are installing this kit in an existing system, always follow the Pressure Relief Procedure below. 1. Shut off the air to the pump. Close the bleed-type master air valve. 2. Hold a metal part of the dispense valve firmly to the side of a grounded metal waste container, and trigger the valve to relieve pressure. 3. If you suspect that the dispense valve, nozzle, or hose is clogged, or that pressure has not been fully relieved after following the steps above, very slowly loosen the coupler or hose end coupling and relieve pressure gradually, then loosen completely. Now clear the clog. 1. Relieve the pressure (see above). 2. Remove the fluid hose. Unscrew the pump outlet fitting. 3. Refer to the parts drawing on page 2. Screw the tee (5) into the pump fluid outlet. 4. Install the relief valve (1) with the arrow pointing as shown. Install the nipple (2) and hose (6). NOTE: In systems where the pump is mounted in the bung hole of drum, step 5 may be skipped. The hose may be inserted in the vent hole to return fluid to the drum. 5. Screw the hose adapter (4), if used, onto the pump intake valve. Install the nipple (3) in the adapter (4) and connect the hose (6) to the nipple. GRACO INC. NOTE: Regulate the pump output pressure to no more than 800 psi (56 bar). If you don’t have an air regulator and the existing air supply will produce more than 800 psi (56 bar) fluid pressure, you must install a regulator at the pump air inlet. If the pump runs continuously when the dispensing valves are closed, the relief valve may be faulty or held open by dirt. To check or clean the relief valve, stop the pump, relieve pressure, and proceed as follows: 1. Disconnect the fluid return hose (6) from the hose adapter (4) and cap the nipple (3) in the hose adapter with a 3/8 npt pipe cap. Refer to the parts drawing on page 2. 2. Check to see if fluid comes from the end of the return hose. If not, check the pump and supply lines. If the valve is leaking, stop the pump, relieve pressure, and unscrew the relief valve (1) from the tee (5). 3. To clean the relief valve (1), put it in a vise, insert a 1/8 in. (3 mm) diameter rod or other suitable tool into the inlet port, depress the spring, and blow air through the valve. 4. Reinstall the relief valve (1) and start the pump. If the valve still leaks, replace it with a new one. NOTE: Do not attempt to disassemble the pressure relief valve (1), as this will disturb the pressure setting. If the valve cannot be cleaned as described, replace it with a new one. 5. Reassemble all parts and return the pump to service, according to the instructions in your separate pump manual. P.O.
