Introduction

The use of a wireless transmission installation will avoid long inconvenient cable runs. The user is no Ionger dependent on a fixed microphone and can move freely.

The radio microphone installation consists of a microport transmitter and a microport receiver.

The transmitter can be equipped with different microphones.

The microport installation has been tested and licenced by the German

Central Telecommunication Board

(FTZ) and by equivalent institutions of other countries.

However, the purchaser of this equipment is responsible for obtaining the licence to operate it from the appropriate authorities.

In the

Federal Republic of Germany the attached form can be used for the application.

The basic model of :he transmitter

SK 1008-3 is designed for the three frequencies 36.7, 37.1 and 37.9 MHz.

In the region of the Federal Republic of. Germany these frequencies are intended for private use. Other customers or foreign customers have the possibility to obtain the transmitter with three optional frequencies in the range from 30 to 45 MHz. The difference between the highest and deepest frequency should not exeed 1.2 MHz. The transmitter can be powered by an ordinary 9-V-battery or from a rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium-accumulator. The accumulator can be charged through the charging contacts at the bottom of the transmitter in conjunction with the charging unit

SZL

1008.

The plug-in microphone MD 1008, MD

4008 or MKE 4008 can be combined with a transmitter

SK

1008-3 to a unit which has nearly the same size as an usual microphone.

This unit may be either hand-held for commentary applications or used as a lavalier microphone by means of its cord.

For an inconspicuous wearing of the transmitter under the clothing microphones are available which can be connected to the transmitter through the microphone socket. The transmitter will be supplied with a flexible antenna and with a suspension unit.

Einsetzen der Batterie

Zum Einsetzen der 9-V-Batterie

(IEC

6 F 22, z. B. Daimon Nr. 333, Pertrix

Inserting the Battery

To insert the 9-V-battery (IEC 6 F 22, e. g. Eveready No. 216, Daimon No.

333, Pertrix No. 438, Deac Type Tr 7/8 nickel-cadmium accumulator or equivalent) it is first necessary to disconnect the plug-in microphone from the transmitter.

Whilst the locking knobs at the transmitter housing are pressed

(Fig. 1), the microphone can be removed. The battery compartment may be opened by pushing back the corrugated part (Fig. 2) on the battery cover. To insert the battery it is essential to ensure that its negative terminal engages the large recess on the end face of the battery compartment

(Fig. 3). Proper battery contact will be obtained only when correct polarity is observed.

Then the cover must be closed and the microphone can be fitted.

Fig.2

4

Bild 3

Fig.3

Connecting the Antenna

The supplied flexible antenna must be screwed to the thread at the bottom of the transmitter (Fig. 4). It is important for good radiation of the high frequency signal to have this antenna stretched vertically.

The transmitter and hence the antenna should be mounted as high as possible when microphones are employed which are connected to the transmitter via cable.

Mikrofone

Microphones

The plug-in microphones MD 1008, MD

4008 (Fig. 5) have been developped especially for use with the transmitter

SK 1008. The plug-in microphone

MD 1008 with omnidirectional characteristic is preferable whenever it is essential to obtain minimum sensitivity to vibration and where

especially during interviews

several persons speak into the microphone from different directions.

However, where there is a high ambient noise level, reverberation or the possibility of acoustical feedback it is recommended to use a plug-in microphone with directional characteristic.

For this application the two models MD 4008 and MKE 4008 are available. The MD 4008 is a dynamic plug-in microphone with super-cardioid directional characteristic.

The

MKE

4008, a condenser microphone in electret technique, has a cardioid directional characteristic.

In comparison to the dynamic plug-in microphones the

MKE 4008 has an extended frequency range which results in an improved reproduction of the deep frequencies below 300 Hz. The microphone is very insensitive to handling noise. It will be powered from the transmitter battery.

MD 1008

MD 4008

MKE 4008

The three plug-in microphones are interchangeable against one another.

With the locking knobs G) at the transmitter (Fig. 6) depressed the microphones can be pulled off. They form an organic unit in conjunction with the

SK 1008 although they are easily detachable. The combination can be used as a hand-held microphone or as a lavalier microphone.

If it is worn as a lavalier microphone aspace will be kept between the transmitter and the clothing by means of a special suspension to minimize the transmission of rubbing noise. The spacer (Fig. 6) is fitted to the transmitter by inserting the tappets of the holder @ into the holes at the side of the transmitter housing @)and then turning the spacer upwards. After hanging the cord round the neck it must be put into the hole <D at the spacer.

Where consealment of the transmitter is desired the dynamic microphones

MD 214-1 and MD 405-T as weil as the condenser lapel microphone MKH 124 can be used, connected to the microphone socket of the transmitter via a short cable. The MD 214-1 is a lavalier microphone with omnidirectional characteristic.

The capsule of the micro-

I

phone is spring-mounted to the outer case which makes the microphone very insensitive to rubbing noise.

The shaped frequency response compensates the attenuation of high frequencies caused by the wearing against the chest.

The MD 405-T has a cardioid directional characteristic and can be fixed at the clothing by me ans of a clip. The MKH 124 is a sm all condenser microphone with RF-circuitry.

The frequency range covers 40 to 20 000 Hz.

As apressure transducer and on account of its light diaphragm this microphone is insensitive to handling noise.

Further it is possible to connect dynamic microphones with the cable

DA 1 NY or Sennheiser RF-condenser microphones with the cable KAM 1-5 to the microphone socket of the transmitter.

Inbetriebnahme

Operation

The slide switch on the lower end of the transmitter is used to switch the unit on or off. When the transmitter is on, a red mark is visible.

The channel switch @ (Fig. 6) can be set to the required channel by means of a small screwdriver (channel I 36.7 MHz, channel 1137.1 MHz, channel III 37.9 MHz).

Further it is necessary to adjust the sensitivity control @ marked 1 . . . 7 to suit the loudness of the sound being picked up and the distance of the microphone from the mouth.

At medium speech volume and with a microphone spacing of about 20 cm the control should be set at approximately "4".

If the microphone spacing is increased or if loudness is reduced it will be necessary to advance the control accordingly.

On the other hand loud speech or a reduction in microphone distance requires a lower setting.

To facilitate precise matching of the system in studio operation it should be mentioned that correct adjustment of the sensitivity control is obtained when the audio output of the receiver EM

1008 supplies 1.55 V (+ 6 dB) at modulation peaks.

If the receiver EM 1010 is used the modulation can be checked by means of the built-in instrument.
