General
SCREAMIN’ EAGLE COMPRESSION RELEASE KIT
Installation
This kit is designed for installation on all twin cam Screamin
Eagle cylinder heads having 10:1 compression or greater.
NOTE
A service manual for your motorcycle is available at your
Harley-Davidson dealership.
Installation of this kit is divided into 3 steps:
— Removal of cylinder heads
— Machining of cylinder heads
— Assembly of cylinder heads
Cylinder Head Removal
1WARNING
1.
A SERVICE MANUAL IS NEEDED TO REMOVE ORIGINAL PARTS AND INSTALL THIS KIT. The rider's safety
depends upon the correct installation of this kit. If the
procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not
have the correct tools, have your Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this
kit could result in death or serious injury.
Refer to engine section of corresponding service
manual for cylinder head removal procedures.
Machining of Cylinder Head

See Figure 1. Starting with the front cylinder head, mark
a point which is .89 inches forward of the rear head bolt
mounting hole and .32 inches inward from a line joining
the centers of the head bolt holes.
3.
Mark this point with a center punch at least .050” deep.
4.
Mark a similar point on the rear head except this point
will be .89” rear ward of the front head bolt mounting
hole and .32” inward.
5.
Fixture cylinder head so it sits at a 15˚ angle with the
spark plug hole side up.
6.
Drill a .090” (3/32) hole through the center punched hole
until it breaks through into cumbustion chamber.
7.
With head still fixtured at 15˚, spot face a .75” dia pad.
Go only deep enough to clean up.
8.
Drill a .355” to .360” diameter (23/64 or “T” letter drill)
hole .75” deep and tap a M10x1 thread .63” deep.
Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive
under certain conditions. Do not smoke or allow open
flame or sparks anywhere in the area when draining or
servicing the fuel system. Drain gasoline into approved
gasoline container only. Inadequate safety precautions
could result in death or serious injury.
9.
Completely clean and remove all chips around
machined hole.

Assembly of Cylinder Heads
1WARNING
To protect against shock and accidental start-up of vehicle, disconnect the battery cables, negative cable first,
before proceeding. Inadequate safety precautions could
result in death or serious injury.
1WARNING
Always disconnect the negative battery cable first. If the
positive battery cable should contact ground with the
negative cable installed, the resulting sparks may cause
a battery explosion which could result in death or serious injury.

10. Install compression releases and torque to 12-18 ft-lbs
(16-24 Nm).
11. Refer to engine section of corresponding service
manual for cylinder head installation procedures.
Operation
Press both compression releases prior to starting engine.
Cylinder pressure will reset the compression release once
engine starts.
