Winter Break Closing
December 2017
All residence halls will close for winter break on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 8:00
PM. All residents must vacate the residence halls by this time and no exceptions can be
made. Residents are expected to vacate the halls 24 hours after their last exam or by
the closing date, whichever comes first. The residence halls will re-open for the spring
at 12:00 PM on Sunday, January 21, 2018.
Please remember that Residential Education & Housing must approve all residents
who wish to leave housing during any point in the academic year. If you are moving
out and it has not been confirmed by our office, please contact us immediately.
Students moving out of their fall assignment for any reason will need to follow
the instructions that will be sent via e-mail in the coming days.
Students with a new room assignment for the spring semester will be able to
move in when the halls open on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 12:00 PM. However,
please do not leave any items in your fall assignment as they will be discarded to prepare the room for a new resident.
Unplug all electrical appliances. Place all unplugged cords on top of the appliance.
All refrigerators should be emptied, defrosted, cleaned and unplugged at least two
days prior to leaving. *Refrigerators in Townhouses and Apartments do not need
to be unplugged but should be cleaned, all perishables removed, and temperature
set at the lowest setting. Please be advised that staff will be unplugging any refrigerators left plugged in for all other locations.
Do not forget to take all valuables
such as passports, computers,
jewelry, money, medication, etc.
home with you. No one will be
allowed to enter the residence halls
during the break. Students who
return to the residential facilities
without approval may be referred
to Student Conduct for trespassing.

Close and lock all windows. All blinds should be left open unless you live in a
ground floor room. Please close the blinds if you live on the ground floor.
Remove all trash from your room and dispose of it properly in the trash room(s)
and/or dumpster. Remember to recycle!
Remove all holiday decorations.
Turn off all of your lights and lock the door to your room.
If you have pets, please take them home. Residential Education staff will not be
responsible for the care of any pets left behind.
All medications and valuables such as jewelry, laptops, money, etc. should be taken
Sign out via the closing checklist on your door.
Please check with your student staff member for any
specific closing expectations within your community.
