Service on VIBROTEST 60
Constant reliability and ease of servicing have been important targets for development of
VIBROTEST 60 (VT-60).
By comprehensive safety routines, already implemented in the standard firmware, a high
operatingsafety has been attained.
In order to keep an acceptable level of the gained functionality and operating safety of the unit on
a long-term basis, the service concept provides an easy and economic handling for our customers
in case of service demands.
1.1
Overview of Service Tasks
Update
Required measures, to implement technical changes into an existing unit/version ("... to bring the
unit up to date")
Upgrade
Required measures, to extend the existing functionality by additional functions.
Repair
Because of the compact construction of VT-60, repairs will be done only by exchanging of
defective parts.
Testing and Adjustment
A complete testing as well as adjustment of VT-60 is done by the use of the "Test- and
Adjustment Kit VT-60" and the "Test- and Adjustment Card VT-60".
Performance-Test
Functionality proof according to standard requirements.

Intended und improper Use

Only with a valid calibration the TAK VT-60 may be used for calibration of a VT-60. The
proper connection of the cable must be ensured.
The sealed potentiometers may not be adjusted. Otherwise a readjustment would be
necessary.
Information in the service manual must be complied with.
Only the connection cables supplied with may be connected to the TAK-VT60 and VT60. Improper connection may cause damage to the device.
No signals may be fed via the connecting cable (CH1, CH2, and REF) and the control
port (Centronics). This can cause damage to the device.

System behaviour during break-down
The safety concept of VT-60 provides visualization of possible errors caused by the instrument
itself as a text in the display. Furthermore, all system errors determined will be stored in the error
message report, including error code, date and time as well as a code sequence.
The error report can be selected in the following menu:
VIBROTEST 60 \ SYSTEM SETUP \ SERVICE \ ERROR MESSAGES
The error code is an important advice on the cause of error, thus it is required for the error
diagnosis.

Reboot VIBROTEST 60

Reboot VIBROTEST 60
Disturbances not being determined by the safety program may affect a "break-down (software
error)". To continue operation, the instrument must be started again.
Reboot means restart of all important parameters, all setups and measurements stored until the
time the error occurred will be retained. Stored reports will remain.
Reboot (Reset) of VT-60:
Remove the VT-60 instrument from the charger; remove housing cover and battery set from the
charger unit. After 10 seconds, insert the battery set again into the charger unit, put on the housing
cover and switch the unit on.
After successful restart the VIBROTEST 60 menu will be displayed.
In case the restart is not successful and the instrument does not behave as described above,
please contact the hotline of Brüel & Kjær Vibro GmbH.

Testing and Adjustment
4.1
Concept
The complete testing and adjustment of VT-60 is conducted by using the test control unit
especially developed for VT-60
Test- and Adjustment Kit VT-60 (TAK VT-60)
and the necessary test software
Test- and Adjustment Card VT-60 (TAC VT-60).
Test- and Adjustment Kit VT-60 (TAK VT-60):
The "Test- and Adjustment Kit VT-60" is a test control unit, which is to be connected to the VT-60
in question. It provides the test signals during the test procedure.
Attention:
The precision of the Test- and Adjustment Kit VT-60 influences the precision of the tested VT-60
directly. Therefore, the test control unit TAK VT-60 has to be adjusted by Brüel & Kjær Vibro
GmbH every 12 months. The adjustment shall in no case be done by non-expertise personnel.
Test- and Adjustment Card VT-60 (TAC VT-60):
The "Test- and Adjustment Card VT-60" is a PC-Card providing the test program for VT-60.
Attention:
The battery of this PC-Card has to be exchanged at certain intervals according to the supplier's
instruction.

4.2
Basic Test Procedure
Insert the Test- and Adjustment Card VT-60 directly into the PC-Card drive of the test instrument.
Prepare the instrument as required and switch it on. The instrument realises the special Test- and
Adjustment Card and loads the test program into the memory (SRAM). After successful booting a
message will be displayed. Continue testing and adjustment according to the instructions given in
the display.
After successful testing and adjustment, the results will be stored in the FLASH EPROM, selected
data will be entered into the menu ADJUSTMENT INFO and the date for the next testing and
adjustment will be stored in the INFO menu.
In case of an error during testing and adjustment the test program stops right away, and the error
will be displayed.
After successful testing and adjustment of the VT-60 instrument, the firmware must be loaded
once again with an Update-Card.

Switch the VIBROTEST 60 off and connect it to the Test- and Adjustment Kit VT-60
according to figure 1.

Insert the Test- and Adjustment Card VT-60 into the PC-Card drive.

In order to have the VT-60 booted by the Test- and Adjustment Card VT-60, put the
jumper onto the bridge W301 of printed board VVT600C.

Assure voltage supply of the instrument (currently by an external charger 6 V DC / 3A on
connector X902 of printed board VVT600C).

functions and offers multiple applications. Future developments of measuring functions can be
easily integrated.
The functions of VIBROTEST 60 can be extended any time by

Update
In order to keep the gained functionality of a VT-60 updated on a long-term basis, any changes
occurring from time to time have to be integrated into hard- and firmware afterwards.
Technical modifications of the firmware shall be done via Update-PC-Card, and changes in
hardware, if necessary, shall be done according to an update instruction.
The Update-PC-Card provides the latest firmware; the update instruction includes the details
for modifying the hardware.
With a firmware update of the instrument, i.e. complete exchanging of firmware in the flash
memory of the instrument, two update procedures are possible:

The TAK-VT60 must be operated within the specified
supply voltages. The correct position of the code switch
must be ensured before switching on. The TAK-VT60 is
only designed for AC-operation.

Changing fuse and start-up may be made only by
authorized personnel. The opening of the TAK-VT60 is

position of the code switch must be ensured before
switching on.

Cleaning
Before cleaning the TAK-VT60 has to be disconnected
from supply voltage. The cleaning can be carried out
with a damp cloth. Don’t treat the device surface with
abrasives cleaners, acid- or chlorine-containing cleaning
products.
Maintenance:
The opening of the TAK-VT60 is not allowed. The
annual calibration interval must be observed.

Security Advice
Before connecting power to the TAK VT-60 (Test and Adjustment Kit), termination of
voltage code switch be checked. Incorrect supply voltage may damage the TAK VT60 beyond repair or will not ensure the function.
Unauthorized opening of the device is not allowed
In case of wrong connection of Tuchel at TAK VT-60 (REF, CH1 and CH2) in any
way, no controlled test or calibration sequence can take place.
