Cornell answers the call for safe, reliable and simplified fire door closing options with its full line of FireGard™ and
Advanced AlarmGard™ fire door closing systems. Unlike conventional, old style fire door operators, all FireGard systems
close fire rated doors without releasing spring tension. Cornell’s systems eliminate potentially dangerous closing
speeds and allow for simplified testing and resetting without mechanically resetting the door. Besides saving time and
money, these unique features help ensure your fire doors are fully functional and ready to protect the safety of building
occupants and property during an emergency.

AlarmGard Motor Operated Systems
These systems close the fire door in response to an alarm signal and are fail-safe by design, safely closing the
door during a prolonged power failure. When the alarm is cleared and/or power is restored, resetting is done
automatically without requiring human interaction. Unlike conventional fire door operators, AlarmGard Motor
Operators do not require an additional mechanical release device to respond to central alarm signals or local
smoke detectors. For doors up to 51’ wide, 36’ high or a maximum 1200 sq. ft.

AlarmGard Tube Motor Operated Systems
For Counter Fire Doors
AlarmGard Tube Motor operators are concealed in the Counter Fire Door’s shaft assembly making them ideal for
openings with tight clearances around the coil area or to neatly conceal the operator and drive components. 115
VAC power required for motor, 24 VDC, 115 VAC or 24 VAC required for control panel. Available for Counter Fire
Doors up to 6’ wide, 10’ high or up to 60 square feet.

Manual AlarmGard Chain and Crank Operated Systems
AlarmGard Chain
These compact designs include a built-in automatic reset release device for connection to a central alarm
system or local detectors - no external release device is required. Units will close automatically upon alarm
or power failure in excess of 10 seconds. Resetting spring tension or re-engaging the operator is not required.
AlarmGard Chain and Crank Operators are available for use on all Counter Fire Doors and Fire Doors up to 34’
wide or 28’ high standard construction. Crank units available to 12’ high.

Integral governing device provides safe closing speed.
Accepts 24V DC, 115V AC or 24V AC power supply.

UL listed, industrial duty gear head operator recommended for units that normally cycle up to 20 times per day.

Retrofit Operators
Specialty UL approval allows Cornell to retrofit AlarmGard and FireGard operators to most
manufacturers’ fire doors while maintaining the door’s listing agency ratings.
Push Up Operation, Specialty Operators
Specialty Operators and Push-Up Operation are available. These conventional systems release
spring tension and require mechanical resetting by a trained door system technician.

Fire Door Closing System Accessories
Battery Backup Devices
Prevents unplanned door closure due to power failures for up to 8 hours. Also functions as a backup DC power
source for local warning devices and detectors during power failures.
UL 325 Compliant Entrapment Protection Devices
Per UL 325-2010, doors without a connected and properly functioning primary entrapment device will only
function by constant pressure close operation. The primary entrapment protection devices below enable
momentary contact to close operation. Tube motors are not currently approved to accept these devices.
Electric Sensing Edge with 2 Wire Wireless Edge Kit: Eliminates the need for a physical travelling electric cord
connection between the bottom bar sensing edge device and the motor operator.
ELR Electric Sensing Edge: 2 wire monitored electric sensing/smoke seal edge. Contact with the edge before
the door fully closes causes the door to immediately stop downward travel and reverse direction to the fully
open position. Provide a retracting safety cord and reel or a self-coiling cable connection to control the circuit.
Photo Eyes: Interruption of the beam before the door fully closes causes the door to immediately stop
downward travel and reverse direction to the fully open position.
Optional Secondary Entrapment Protection Devices: May be used in conjunction with primary entrapment
devices or with constant pressure to close operation.

FireGard Floor Level Test Device
Enables the convenience and safety of testing of the fire door at floor level rather than at the fusible link above the
coil. Designed for surface mounting.
Fail-Safe Release Devices
If conditions require that Fire-Master Motor Operators respond to alarm signals from detection devices such as smoke
detectors, heat sensors and central alarm systems, a fail-safe release device may be incorporated to receive the signal
and activate the door. Onboard or wall mounted, depending on the system configuration, these devices permit doors to
close long before high temperatures melt fusible links.
FireGard AR-D
Note: Cornell’s advanced AlarmGard Fire Door Closing Systems do not require an additional mechanical release device
to respond to alarm signals from detection devices.
Fire Door Annunciators
Optional safety devices that provide a visual and/or audible advanced warning when the door is about to close. Can
be activated upon alarm signal or loss of power when supported by a battery backup device.
Horn Strobe: ADA compliant, 24 VDC warning devices that are powered by a release device power source to provide an advanced fire door closing warning. Activation upon alarm signal and power failure and/or alarm signal
only depending on release device.
Voice Warning Module: An ADA compliant warning device. Provides up to four different voice warning messages
upon activation. Messages are in English and are field selectable.
