NFPA 1901-2009

The National Fire Protection Association "Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus", 2009 edition, is hereby adopted and made a part of these specifications, the same as if it were written out in full detail, with the exception of the section dealing with "Equipment Recommended for Various Types of

Apparatus". Bidders shall provide the equipment requested herein and the buyer shall supply the rest before the apparatus is put into service. It is the intent of the purchaser to purchase an apparatus that meets 100% of the minimum standards defined and outlined in NFPA 1901-2009 edition. There are to be no exceptions to this requirement.

PREREQUISITE BIDDING REQUIREMENTS

Any manufacturer submitting a proposal or bid, to these specifications, shall meet the following conditions:

The manufacturer of the apparatus herein specified, shall be wholly owned (100%) and managed by a Company, Corporation, and/or Parent Company that is wholly based and permanently resides in the United States of America.

The Company, Corporation, and/or Parent Company, and all assets belonging to such, shall be wholly owned and managed (100%) by the entities specified above.

Any proposal, bid, or response to these specifications by any foreign based, owned, or managed (in part or in whole) Company, Corporation, and/or Parent Company shall be cause for immediate rejection.

Any proposal, bid, or response to these specifications by any Company, Corporation, and/or Parent Company, that is owned, operated, managed, or held in contract, in part or wholly by a partnership or other agreement, shall be cause for immediate rejection.

Exceptions to these conditions will not be allowed under any circumstances.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION

The contractor shall supply, at the time of delivery, at least one (1) copy of the following documents:

1. The manufacturers record of apparatus construction details, including the following information:

Owners name and address

Apparatus manufacturer, model, and serial number

Chassis make, model, and serial number

GAWR of front and rear axles

Front tire size and total rated capacity in pounds or kilograms

Rear tire size and total rated capacity in pounds or kilograms

Chassis weight distribution in pounds with water and manufacturer mounted equipment

(front and rear)

Engine make, model, serial number, rated horsepower and related speed, and governed speed

Type of fuel and fuel tank capacity

Electrical system voltage and alternator output in amps

Battery make, model, and capacity in cold cranking amps (CCA)

Chassis transmission make, model, and serial number; and if so equipped, chassis

transmission PTO(s) make, model, and gear ratio

If applicable, the pump make, model, rated capacity in gallons or liters per minute, and serial number

Pump transmission make, model, serial number, and gear ratio, if unit is equipped with a pump

If applicable, the auxiliary pump make, model, rated capacity in gallons or liters per minute, and serial number

Water tank certified capacity in gallons or liters

On aerial apparatus, the device type, rated vertical height in feet or meters, rated horizontal reach in feet or meters, and rated capacity in pounds or kilograms

Paint manufacturer and paint number(s)

Company name and signature of responsible company representative

2. Certification of slip resistance of all stepping, standing, and walking surfaces

3. If the apparatus has a fire pump, a copy of the following shall be provided: pump manufacturers certification of suction capability, apparatus manufacturers approval for stationary pumping applications, engine manufacturers certified brake horsepower curve showing the maximum governed speed, pump manufacturers certification of the hydrostatic test, and the certification of inspection and test for the fire pump

4. If the apparatus has an aerial device, the certification of inspection and test for the aerial device, and all the technical information required for inspections to comply with NFPA 1914, Standard for Testing

5. If the apparatus has a fixed line voltage power source, the certification of the test for the fixed power source

6. If the apparatus is equipped with an air system, test results of the air quality, the SCBA fill station, and the air system installation

7. Weight documents from a certified scale showing actual loading on the front axle, rear axle(s), and overall fire apparatus (with the water tank full but without personnel, equipment, and hose)

8. Written load analysis and results of the electrical system performance tests

9. When the apparatus is equipped with a water tank, the certification of water tank capacity

OPERATION AND SERVICE DOCUMENTATION

The contractor shall supply, at time of delivery, at least two (2) sets of complete operation and service documentation covering the completed apparatus as delivered and accepted. The documentation shall address at least the inspection, service, and operations of the fire apparatus and all major components thereof. The contractor shall also provide documentation of the following items for the entire apparatus and each major operating system or major component of the apparatus:

Manufacturers name and address

Country of manufacturer

Source of service and technical information

Parts and replacement information

Descriptions, specifications, and ratings of the chassis, pump, and aerial device

Wiring diagrams for low voltage and line voltage systems to include the following information: representations of circuit logic for all electrical components and wiring, circuit identification,

connector pin identification, zone location of electrical components, safety interlocks, alternatorbattery power distribution circuits, and input/output assignment sheets or equivalent circuit logic

 implemented in multiplexing systems charts

Operating instructions for the chassis, any major components such as a pump or aerial device,

 and any auxiliary systems

Precautions related to multiple configurations of aerial devices, if applicable

Instructions regarding the frequency and procedure for recommended maintenance

Overall apparatus operating instructions considerations

Limitations of use procedures

Recommended service procedures guide

Apparatus body, chassis, and other component manufacturers warranties

Special data required by this standard

Copies of required manufacturer test data or reports, manufacturer certifications, and independent third-party certifications of test results

A material safety data sheet (MSDS) for any fluid that is specified for use on the apparatus

The contractor shall deliver with the apparatus all manufacturers operations and service documents supplied with components and equipment that are installed or supplied by the contractor.

STATEMENT OF EXCEPTIONS

The proposed apparatus as described in this specification document and all related material with the bid package shall meet or exceed all applicable sections for the category of apparatus as defined by NFPA

1901, unless specifically noted within this specification or other official documents associated with this bid.

Should any area, section or portion of the apparatus not meet the intent and applicable requirements, a clearly defined listing or explanation of what and why compliance was not achieved shall be provided to the purchaser at the time of delivery.

INTENT OF SPECIFICATIONS

It is the intent of these specifications to cover the furnishing and delivery to the purchaser of a complete apparatus equipped as herein specified. With a view to obtaining the best results and the most acceptable apparatus for service in the fire department, these specifications cover the general requirements as to the type of construction, together with certain details as to finish, equipment, and appliances with which the successful bidder must conform. Minor details of construction and materials where not otherwise specified are left to the discretion of the contractor, who shall be solely responsible for the design and construction of all features.

Bids shall only be considered from companies that have an established reputation in the field of fire apparatus construction and have been in business for a minimum of 50 years.

Each bidder shall furnish satisfactory evidence of his ability to construct the apparatus specified, and shall state the location of the factory where the apparatus is to be built. The bidder shall also show that they are in a position to render prompt service and furnish replacement parts for said apparatus.

CONTRACTOR'S SPECIFICATIONS

Each bid shall be accompanied by a set of "Contractor's Specifications" consisting of a detailed description of the apparatus and equipment proposed and to which the apparatus furnished under contract must conform.

These specifications shall indicate size, type, model, and make of all component parts and equipment.

TIMELY PROPOSALS

It is the bidder's responsibility to see that their proposals arrive on time. Late proposals, facsimiles, emails, telegram, or telephone bids shall not be considered.

DRAWINGS

All bid drawings shall be stamped PRELIMINARY DRAFT.

A total of six (6) "C" size (18" x 24") drawings and one (1) 11" x 17" drawing shall be supplied

All drawings shall be drawn and printed in a 3/8 to 1 scale

Compartment door opening dimensions shall be shown on table on the drawing which shall refer to each compartment number, such as L1, R1, T1

Drawings shall be five (5) views. (left, right, front, rear, top) with the exception of chassis that are not always available as AutoCAD drawings

Rear plumbing, such as 2-1/2" discharges, rear steamers, and direct tank fills, shall be shown

Ladders shall be labeled with a letter designation referring to the table for an explanation of the ladder type

PURCHASER'S OBLIGATIONS

The purchaser reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids on such basis as the purchaser deems to be in its best interest. All bidders shall be advised that the purchaser is not bound in any manner to automatically accept the lowest bid. The purchaser shall only be obligated to purchase the lowest bid that meets these detailed specifications as closely as possible.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

It is required that the bidder shall meet all State and Federal safety standards and laws that are in effect on the date of the bid for the item(s) that are being specified and the particular use for which they are meant.

ACQUAINTANCE WITH SPECIFICATIONS

It is the responsibility of the bidder to review all of the bidding requirements. Failure of a bidder to be acquainted with this information shall not relieve them from any obligations of the bid requirements.

QUALITY AND WORKMANSHIP

The design of the apparatus shall embody the latest approved automotive engineering practices.

Experimental designs and methods shall not be acceptable.

The workmanship shall be of the highest quality in its respective field. Special consideration shall be given to the following points: accessibility of the various units that require periodic maintenance, ease of operation (including both pumping and driving), and symmetrical proportions.

GENERAL CONSTRUCTION

The complete apparatus, assemblies, subassemblies, component parts, and so on, shall be designed and constructed with due consideration to the nature and distribution of the load to be sustained and to the general character of the service to which the apparatus is to be subjected when placed in service.

All parts of the apparatus shall be strong enough to withstand the general service under full load. The apparatus shall be so designed that the various parts are readily accessible for lubrication, inspection, adjustment and repair.

The apparatus shall be designed and constructed, and the equipment so mounted, with due consideration to distribution of the load between the front and rear axles, and side to side loading that all specified equipment, including a full complement of specified ground ladders, full water tank, loose equipment, and firefighters; shall be carried without overloading or damaging the apparatus as per

requirements defined in NFPA 1901.

The main apparatus body structure shall have an approximate width of 100" in order to maximize the enclosed compartment space of the apparatus. The 100" wide measurement represents the main body structure measured from the bottom, outermost rear corners of the apparatus body structure.

Components affixed or fastened to the apparatus will increase the body width proportionately.

LIABILITY

The bidder, if their bid is accepted, shall defend any and all suits and assume all liability for the use of any patented process, device or article forming a part of the apparatus or any appliance furnished under the contract.

WARRANTY

A copy of the warranties for the chassis, pump, body, paint, and water tank shall be furnished with each bidder's proposal.

BID FORMS / SPECIFICATIONS

All bid forms shall be submitted on the attached bid form. The bid form and/or these specifications shall be filled out by checking either the "YES" or "NO" column for each and every section/paragraph. Failure to use this form and/or these specifications shall be cause for immediate rejection of any bid.

EXCEPTION TO SPECIFICATIONS

The following chassis, pump, and body specifications shall be strictly adhered to. Exceptions shall be allowed if they are equal to or superior to that specified (as judged by the customer), and provided they are listed and fully explained on a separate page entitled "EXCEPTIONS TO SPECIFICATIONS".

Exception lists shall refer to the specification page number. Each check in the "NO" column shall be listed and fully explained. Where no check is made in a particular paragraph with either "YES" or "NO", it shall be assumed the bidder is taking exception to that paragraph. If a paragraph contains an empty column, where the bidder neglected to check the proper "YES" or "NO" column, it is assumed the bidder is not conforming to the requirements of this paragraph. If no explanation is given in the "EXCEPTIONS

TO SPECIFICATIONS" document, the bid is subject to immediate rejection.

PROPOSALS TAKING TOTAL EXCEPTION TO THESE SPECIFICATIONS WILL BE IMMEDIATELY

REJECTED.

The buyer is aware that all bidders shall have to take some exceptions therefore; BIDDERS THAT

TAKE NO EXCEPTIONS shall BE REQUIRED TO MEET EVERY PARAGRAPH TO THE FULLEST

EXTENT SHOULD THEIR BID BE ACCEPTED. It is the intent of the purchaser to receive bids that do not require telephone calls or other communications to ascertain what a bidder is intending to supply.

Upon delivery, the apparatus shall be inspected against THESE specifications and not those supplied by the bidder with their proposal. Deviations shall not be acceptable unless they were noted as exceptions at the time of bid and the apparatus shall be rejected until said deviations are corrected to the satisfaction of the buyer.

Decisions regarding equal to or better than, shall be the sole responsibility of the recipient of the bids rather than those companies submitting bids. All deviations, regardless of significance must be explained in the "EXCEPTIONS TO SPECIFICATIONS" section of the bid.

When exceptions are not taken but inconsistencies are noted in the submitted detailed specifications,

the bid may be subject to rejection.

ROADABILITY

The apparatus, when fully equipped and loaded, shall be capable of the following performance while on dry paved roads that are in good condition:

From a standing start, the apparatus shall be able to attain a speed of 35 mph (55 kmph) within

25 seconds on a level road.

The apparatus shall be able to attain a minimum top speed of 50 mph (80 kmph) on a level road.

The apparatus shall be able to maintain a speed of at least 20 mph (30 kmph) on any grade up to and including 6 percent.

The maximum top speed of the apparatus shall not exceed the tire manufacturer's maximum speed rating for the tires installed on the apparatus.

FAILURE TO MEET TESTS

In the event the apparatus fails to meet the test requirements of these specifications on the first trials, second trials may be made at the option of the bidder within 30 days of the date of the first trials.

Such trials shall be final and conclusive and failure to comply with these requirements shall be cause for rejection. Failure to comply with changes as required to conform to any clause of the specifications within 30 days after notice is given to the bidder of such changes, shall be cause for rejection of the apparatus.

Permission to keep or store the apparatus in any building owned or occupied by the Department during the specified period, with the permission of the bidder, shall not constitute acceptance. No Exceptions

PROPOSAL SEQUENCE

Bid specifications shall be submitted in the same sequence as these specifications for ease of checking compliance. There shall be no exceptions allowed to this requirement. The apparatus committee intends to be thorough during the evaluation of bids process. In order to maximize efficiency and minimize the time it takes to thoroughly evaluate all received bids this requirement must be strictly adhered to.

AWARD OF CONTRACT

All bids submitted shall be good for a minimum of 30 days during which time bid securities submitted with the proposals shall be held by the purchaser. Criteria for the award shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

After the evaluation and award process is complete, all bidders shall be notified of the results and securities shall be returned.

OVERALL HEIGHT

The actual overall height of the vehicle shall be approximately 126" from the ground. This measurement shall be taken with the tires properly inflated with the apparatus in the unloaded condition. The actual measurement shall be taken at the highest point of the apparatus.

OVERALL LENGTH

The actual overall length of the vehicle shall be approximately 371".

WHEELBASE

The actual wheelbase of the vehicle shall be approximately 181".

ANGLE OF APPROACH

The actual angle of approach of the vehicle shall be approximately 10 degrees.

ANGLE OF A DEPARTURE

The actual angle of departure of the vehicle shall be approximately 12 degrees.

VEHICLE TOP SPEED

The apparatus Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is over 26,000 lbs. The vehicle’s top speed shall be 68 mph.

MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT ALLOWANCE

The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) or Gross

Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the chassis shall be adequate to carry the weight of the unequipped apparatus with the water tank and other tanks full, specified hose load, unequipped personnel weight, ground ladders, and miscellaneous equipment allowance of 2,000 pounds.

MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT

Miscellaneous equipment, as defined by NFPA 1901, sections 5.8.2 and 5.8.3, shall be the responsibility of the customer. The apparatus shall be designed and manufactured in such a manner as to provide ample enclosed space for which to store such equipment.

OWNER'S MANUALS

There shall be an owner's manual containing the construction, operation, and service documentation provided on a USB Drive. There shall be one (1) copy of the USB provided with the apparatus.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SCHEMATIC

A complete electrical schematic for the apparatus shall be provided. This schematic shall be specifically

prepared for this individual unit rather than a generic schematic designed to accommodate all apparatus.

FINAL INSPECTION

The customer and/or dealer representative will inspect the final apparatus prior to it leaving the apparatus body manufacturer’s facility. This will allow any changes that may be required, to be done so in a timely and inexpensive manner. After leaving the facility, all repairs or alterations will be performed by either the Dealer or an OEM approved service center.

INSPECTION CERTIFICATE - NFPA 1901 COMPLIANCE

A third party inspection certificate for the apparatus shall be furnished upon delivery. The purpose of this

NFPA 1901 compliance inspection shall be to serve as proof to the customer that all applicable standards have been met or exceeded by the responsible manufacturer.

The following objectives shall be achieved as a result (this listing shall not be construed as being all inclusive):

Ensure that understanding of all parties respective responsibilities have been addressed by the actual referencing of NFPA 1901 and the amendments in these specifications and the purchase contract and documentation.

Ensure that only structural materials complying with appropriate standards and codes are used for construction.

Ensure that applicable standards of design and manufacturing have been met or exceeded.

Ensure that safety factors have been met or exceeded where required.

Ensure that applicable standards for testing and inspection have been met or exceeded by personnel with the appropriate qualifications, experience, and certifications.

Ensure that where applicable components, equipment, and loose equipment carry the appropriate characteristics, classifications, and/or certifications.

Ensure that in general and as a whole, all applicable requirements set forth in NFPA 1901, and those codes, standards, and specifications referenced by said parties are met, exceeded, and/or addressed.

INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY PUMP CERTIFICATION

The fire pump shall be tested and certified by Underwriter's Laboratories, a nationally recognized independent third party testing company. Tests shall be conducted so that the pump performs as listed below:

100% of rated capacity at 150 pounds net pressure

70% of rated capacity at 200 pounds net pressure

50% of rated capacity at 250 pounds net pressure

100% of rated capacity at 165 pounds net pressure

The entire pump, both suction and discharge passages, shall be hydrostatically tested to a pressure of

600 PSI. The pump shall be fully tested at the pump manufacturer’s factory to the performance spots as outlined by NFPA 1901. The pump shall be free from objectionable pulsation and vibration.

PUMP CERTIFICATION

The pump shall be certified in U.S. gallons per minute (GPM).

FOAM PROPORTIONING SYSTEM TESTING

The foam proportioning system shall be tested and certified after final installation as per NFPA 1901.

12 VOLT SYSTEMS TEST

After completion of the unit, the 12 volt electrical system shall undergo a battery of tests as listed in

NFPA 1901. These tests shall include, but not be limited to:

Reserve test

Alternator performance test at idle

Low voltage alarm test

Alternator performance test at full load

Certification of the results shall be supplied with the apparatus at the time of delivery.

TILT TABLE TESTING

The apparatus shall be tested to verify the stability to 26.5 degrees in both directions. The apparatus shall be tested while loaded with fuel, fire fighting agents, hose, ladders, weight of 250 lbs. per seat, and also weight that is equivalent to the miscellaneous equipment that shall be carried. The weight added to the apparatus for testing purposes shall be distributed approximately to the in-service use, yet not to exceed the manufacturer's compartment ratings.

VEHICLE STABILITY

The apparatus shall comply with the requirements of NFPA 1901 as it applies to vehicle stability. The particular apparatus as described in the specification provided within the bid package shall be classified into one of the following categories:

The apparatus shall go through actual tilt table testing. This shall be determined by the apparatus manufacturer.

The apparatus shall be equipped with a rollover stability control system as defined in section

4.13.1.2 of NFPA 1901.

The apparatus shall be deemed a similar apparatus and meeting the intent of section 4.13.1.1.2 of NFPA 1901.

TEN (10) YEAR WARRANTY BODY STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

The body shall be free of structural or design failure or workmanship for a period of ten (10) years or

100,000 miles starting thirty (30) days after the original invoice date.

THREE (3) YEAR PAINT LIMITED WARRANTY

The apparatus body and pump house shall be free of blistering, peeling and any other adhesion defect caused by defective manufacturing methods or paint material selection for exterior surfaces for a prorated period of three (3) years starting thirty (30) days after the original invoice date.

Paint on the undercarriage, body interior (Line-X® coating included) or aerial structure related paint, if applicable, is covered only under the Standard One (1) Year Limited Warranty.

TEN (10) YEAR CORROSION LIMITED WARRANTY

The body exterior paint shall be warranted against corrosion perforation for a prorated period of ten (10)

years starting thirty (30) days after the original invoice date.

TEN (10) YEAR STAINLESS STEEL PLUMBING LIMITED WARRANTY

The stainless steel plumbing and piping shall be free from corrosion perforation for a period of ten (10) years starting thirty (30) days after the original invoice date.

PUMP WARRANTY

The fire pump shall be warranted by Waterous for a period of five (5) years from the date of delivery to the fire department or five and one-half (5-1/2) years from the shipment date by Waterous, whichever period shall be first to expire.

WATER TANK WARRANTY

The tank shall be complete with a lifetime warranty. The tank manufacturer shall mark the tank and furnish notice that indicates proof of warranty.

TWENTY (20) YEAR GALVANIZED SUBFRAME WARRANTY

The galvanized subframe shall be free of structural or design failure or workmanship for a period of twenty (20) years starting thirty (30) days after the original invoice date.

ONE (1) YEAR BASIC LIMITED PARTS & LABOR WARRANTY - OEM FABRICATED PARTS

OEM fabricated parts shall be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year starting thirty (30) days after the original invoice date.

NINETY (90) DAY BASIC LIMITED PARTS & LABOR WARRANTY - OEM PURCHASED PARTS

OEM installed purchased parts shall be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period of ninety (90) days starting thirty (30) days after the original invoice date.

SMEAL PROPRIETARY PREMIUM CHASSIS

The chassis shall be a Smeal Proprietary Premium Chassis.

AIR INLET

The air inlet shall be supplied and installed by the chassis manufacturer.

MUD FLAPS

In addition to the chassis supplied front mud flaps, there shall be two (2) mud flaps provided rearward of the rear axles on the apparatus. The mud flaps shall be a minimum of 3/8" thick to prevent "sailing."

BATTERY CHARGER

A Pro Charging System Professional Series model PS3, three bank battery charger shall be installed and wired to the shoreline receptacle and the chassis batteries. The battery charger shall be a 120 volt,

45 amp (15 amps per bank), automatic battery charger. The charger shall be a fully automatic waterproof system. Each bank of the charging system shall be capable of producing a charge to bring the batteries back to full charge. The unit shall turn off when the battery is at full charge and turn on automatically if the battery voltage drops. There shall be a charge indicator display provided on the

charger. The unit shall have as standard a three year warranty.

CHASSIS SUPPLIED EJECT

The charger eject shall be supplied and installed by the chassis manufacturer.

REMOTE CHARGE INDICATOR

A bar graph shall be provided in a remote location to show what the status of the charge on the batteries.

Shop Note: The charger display shall be in the lower portion of the mid glass window on the driver's side of the chassis.

CHASSIS SUPPLIED SWITCH PANEL

The switch panel shall be supplied and installed by the chassis manufacturer.

HAZARD WARNING CIRCUIT

There shall be a hazard warning circuit tied to the circuit for the "open door" warning light in the chassis to alert the driver of an unsafe condition for moving the apparatus. The light shall be illuminated automatically when the parking brake is not fully engaged and any of the following conditions exist:

1. Any equipment compartment door that is not closed (excluding compartments with 4 ft³ (0.1 m³ ) or less of volume; or have an opening of 144 in2 (92,000 mm2) or less; or doors that do extend sideways beyond the mirrors or up above the top of the fire apparatus).

2. Any ladder or equipment rack that is not in the stowed position.

3. Any device or component that is permanently attached to the apparatus that is open, extended, or deployed in a manner that is likely to cause damage to the apparatus that has been specified as being tied to the hazard warning circuit.

There shall be a warning placard near the warning light that reads "DO NOT Move Apparatus When

Light Is On."

HELMET BRACKETS, TALON, ON SCENE

The apparatus manufacturer shall supply six (6) helmet brackets in the chassis cab.

The brackets shall meet the 9G requirements of NFPA 1901. The On Scene Talon brackets shall be aluminum and stainless steel and will securely fasten to virtually any flat surface. The brackets will have adjustable brim points in order to allow them to be adjusted for various helmet sizes.

CHASSIS SUPPLIED FRONT BUMPER

The front bumper shall be chassis supplied and installed.

CENTER FRONT BUMPER STORAGE WELL

There shall be a storage well in the center of the extended front bumper. The storage well shall be located between the chassis frame rails. The floor shall be covered with Dri-Dek.

STORAGE WELL COVER WITH NOTCH

There shall be an aluminum tread plate cover installed on the storage well. The cover shall be notched to allow for the stored hose to be pre-connected.

INSTALL CHASSIS SUPPLIED AIRHORNS

The chassis supplied air horns shall be installed by the apparatus manufacturer.

The two (2) components shall be recess mounted in the front bumper, one (1) in the left inboard side and one (1) in the right inboard side.

ELECTRONIC SIREN

There shall be one (1) Whelen model 295HFSA7, 100/200 watt selectable dual output electronic siren mounted in the cab. The siren shall have a flush mounted control head and a remote amplifier. Full features of the siren shall include air horn, wail, yelp, piercer, and a removable microphone.

The component shall be mounted in the chassis cab dash board.

CAST PRODUCTS SPEAKER

There shall be one (1) Cast Products 100 watt speaker provided.

The component shall be recess mounted in the center of the front bumper.

PAC TRAC

There shall be two (2) PAC TRAC tool mounting sections installed on the interior back wall of the chassis cab. There shall be one (1) on each side of the center forward facing seats. Each PAC TRAC section shall be constructed of 7/8" thick, 6063-T5 extruded aluminum.

MIDSHIP MOUNT FIRE PUMP

The fire pump shall be a Waterous CXVC20C 1250 U.S. GPM (4732 LPM) single-stage midship mount pump.

PUMP TRANSMISSION

The pump shall have a Waterous model C20 series transmission. The housing of the transmission shall be constructed of high strength, three piece, horizontally split aluminum. The drive line shafts shall be made from alloy steel forgings, hardened and ground to a size 2.350 inch 46 tooth involute spline. The drive and driven sprockets shall be made of steel and shall be hardened and have ground bores. The drive chain shall be a Morse HV™ high strength involute form chain. Bearings shall be deep groove, anti friction ball bearings and shall give support and proper alignment to the impeller shaft assembly.

Bearings shall be oil splash lubricated, completely separated from the water being pumped, and protected by a V-ring and oil seal. An internal lubrication system shall deliver lubricant directly to the drive chain. This unique design eliminates the need for an external lubrication pump and auxiliary cooling. The pump and transmission shall be easily separable. A two-piece shaft shall be splined allowing for individual repair of either the pump or transmission, to keep down time to a minimum. All drive line components shall have a torque rating equal to or greater than the final net engine torque.

SINGLE STAGE FIRE PUMP

The pump shall be a single stage centrifugal class "A" rated fire pump, designed specifically for the fire

service.

The pump shall be rated at 1250 gallons per minute.

PUMP BODY

The pump body shall be cast as two (2) horizontally split pieces. The body shall be made of high tensile, close-grained gray iron with a minimum tensile strength of 40,000 PSI.

FIRE PUMP MOUNTING

The fire pump shall be mounted within the apparatus body.

The pump shall be frame mounted; therefore minimizing the likelihood of the pump casing cracking should the apparatus be involved in a collision.

Shop Note: FIRE PUMP MOUNTING WILL BE SIMILAR TO VIEW ROYAL SO# 4124.

PAINT PUMP GRAY/PAINT STEAMER AND INLET VALVES PRIMARY BODY COLOR

The pump body shall be painted with PPG polyurethane enamel paint. The paint color shall be a neutral gray. The pump enclosure shall be painted the same color as the apparatus body.

The steamer and partially recessed inlet valves shall be painted with a PPG polyurethane enamel paint.

The paint color shall be the same as the apparatus body.

ALLOY ANODE

There shall be one (1) OEM supplied alloy anode provided with the fire pump. The anode shall aid in preventing galvanic corrosion within the water pump and shall be easily replaceable. The anodes shall be installed as follows:

The anode shall be provided in the intake manifold of the fire pump.

IMPELLERS

The pump impellers shall be bronze, specifically designed for the fire service and accurately balanced for vibration free running. The stripping edges shall be located on opposite sides of the impellers to reduce shaft deflection.

The impeller shaft shall be stainless steel, accurately ground to size and supported at each end by oil or grease lubricated anti-friction ball bearings for rigid, precise support. The bearings used on the impeller shaft shall be automotive type bearings, easily cross-referenced and readily available at normal parts or bearing stores.

WATEROUS IMPELLER WEAR RINGS

The pump shall be equipped with replaceable bronze wear rings for increased pump life and minimum maintenance cost. The wear rings shall be designed to fit into a groove in the face of the impeller hubs forming a labyrinth that, as the clearance increases with age, directs water from the discharge side in several directions eventually exiting outward, away from the eye of the impeller hub.

MECHANICAL SEALS

The pump shall be equipped with self-adjusting, maintenance free mechanical shaft seals that shall not require manual adjustment. These seals shall be designed in a manner such that they shall remain functional enough to permit continued use of the pump in the unlikely event of a seal failure.

AIR OPERATED PUMP SHIFT

The pump shift actuating mechanism shall be air operated from a valve in the cab identified as "PUMP

SHIFT". Full instructions for shifting the pump shall be inscribed on the valve plate.

There shall be two (2) green pump system shift indicator lights in the chassis cab. The first light shall become energized when the pump has completed its shift into pump gear and shall be labeled "Pump

Engaged". The second light shall become energized when the chassis parking brake has been set and when the pump and the chassis transmissions have been shifted completely into the correct gears for pumping, this light shall be labeled "OK to Pump".

There shall be one (1) green pump system shift indicator light located on the operator's panel. This light shall only become engaged when the chassis parking brake has been set and when the pump and the chassis transmissions have been completely shifted into the correct gears. The light shall be located adjacent to the throttle control and shall be labeled "Warning: Do Not Open Throttle Unless Light Is On".

MANUAL OVERRIDE PUMP SHIFT

A manual override system shall be supplied for the pump shift should a problem develop in the chassis air brake system. Controls for the override shall be located at the lower right hand corner of the left side pump panel. Full instructions shall be inscribed on a plate near the pump shift controls.

PRIMING PUMP

There shall be a Waterous, model VPO/VPOS priming pump included with the pump. The priming pump shall be an electrically driven rotary vane pump mounted firmly within the pump area. The pump shall be controlled from the pump operator's panel. An indicator light on the pump panel shall show when the primer motor is engaged. The pump shall be capable of creating suction and discharging water from a lift of 10 feet through 20 feet of suction hose of the appropriate size, in not more than 30 seconds starting with the pump dry. It shall be capable of developing a vacuum of 22 inches at an altitude of up to 1000 feet.

WATEROUS VACUUM ACTIVATED PRIMING (VAP) VALVE

There shall be a Waterous model VAP vacuum activated priming valve supplied with the pump. The valve shall open automatically when the priming system is activated. The valve shall be installed on the pump or mounted remotely.

PRESSURE GOVERNOR

The apparatus shall be equipped with a Class1 "Total Pressure Governor Plus" (TPG+) model 119650 that is connected to the Engine Control Module (ECM) mounted on the engine. The "TPG+" will operate as a pressure sensor (regulating) governor (PSG) utilizing the engine’s J1939 data for optimal resolution and response when supported by the engine manufacturer. The "TPG+" shall function as a Master

Pump Discharge and Intake Gauge.

The TPG+ shall utilize control algorithms that minimize pressure spikes during low or erratic water

supply situations. The "TPG+" shall be backwards compatible to any engine that supplies J1939 RPM,

Temperature and Oil Pressure information providing the ability to maintain a consistent fleet fire-fighting capability and reduce operator cross training and confusion.

The "TPG+" shall have the ability to use either a 300 PSI or a 600 PSI discharge pressure transducer and a 300 PSI intake pressure transducer. PSG system diagnostics shall be built in and accessible by technicians. Programmable presets for RPM and Pressure settings shall be easily configurable. The straightforward menu structure shall allow the "TPG+" configuration to match existing apparatus operation as closely as possible.

The "TPG+" shall also include indication of engine RPM, system voltage, engine oil pressure and engine/transmission temperature with audible alarm output for all. The "TPG+" uses the J1939 data bus for engine information, requiring no additional sensors to be installed. The TPG+ shall monitor and display pump and engine hours. The "TPG+" shall use J1939 broadcast warnings for the alarm.

INTAKE RELIEF VALVE

There shall be an Elkhart Brass intake relief valve installed on the suction side of the pump. The valve shall be the preset type, adjustable from 75 to 250 PSI, and shall be designed to prevent vibration from altering the setting. The relief outlet shall be directed below the pump with the discharge terminating in a

2-1/2" male NST connection. The discharge shall be away from the pump operator and labeled "Do Not

Cap".

MASTER DRAIN VALVE

A Trident manifold drain valve assembly shall be supplied. This drain shall provide the capability to drain the entire pump by turning a single control. The valve assembly shall consist of a stainless steel plate and shaft in a bronze body with multiple ports. The drain valve control shall be mounted on the left side pump panel and labeled "Master Drain".

WATEROUS OVERHEAT PROTECTION MANAGER WITH INDICATOR LIGHTS

There shall be a Waterous Overheat Protection Manager (OPM), installed on the pump. The relief valve shall automatically relieve water from the pump when the temperature of the pump water exceeds

140°F. In addition, a warning light on the pump panel shall be triggered by a thermal switch when the water in the pump reaches 180°F. The warning light acts as an additional protection device if the temperature inside the pump keeps rising although the valve is open. The valve shall automatically reset after activation.

WATEROUS PUMP LUBRICATION SYSTEM

An internal lubrication system shall deliver lubricant directly to the drive chain. This unique design shall eliminate the need for an external lubrication pump and auxiliary cooling. Oil shall be supplied with the lubrication system.

PUMP COOLER LINE

There shall be a 1/2" pump cooler line installed from the discharge side of the pump to the water tank.

The line shall be used to cool the pump during long periods of pumping when water is not being

discharged. The pump cooler shall be controlled with a quarter-turn ball valve on operators panel, and shall be clearly labeled "Pump Cooler".

PUMP COOLER CHECK VALVE

There shall be a check valve installed in the pump cooler line to prevent tank water from back flowing into the pump when it is not in use.

FOAM SYSTEM

There shall be a FoamPro 2001 single foam system installed on the apparatus. The system shall be an electronic, fully automatic, variable speed, direct injection, and discharge side foam proportioning system. The system shall be capable of handling Class A foam concentrates and most Class B foam concentrates. The foam proportioning operation shall be based on direct measurement of water flows, and remain consistent within the specified flows and pressures. The system shall be capable of delivering accuracy to within 3% of calibrated settings over the advertised operation range when installed according to factory standards. The system shall be equipped with a digital electronic control display, suitable for installation on the pump panel. Incorporated within the control display shall be a microprocessor that receives input from the system flow meter, while also monitoring foam concentrate pump output, comparing values to ensure that the operator preset proportional amount of foam concentrate is injected into the discharge side of the fire pump.

Paddlewheel type flow meter shall be installed in the discharges specified to be foam capable.

The digital computer control display shall enable the pump operator to perform the following control and operation functions for the foam proportioning system:

Provide push-button control of foam proportioning rates from 0.1% to 9.9% in 0.1% increments.

Show current flow-per-minute of water.

Show total volume of water discharged during and after foam operations are completed.

Show total amount of foam concentrate consumed.

Simulate flow rates for manual operation.

Perform setup and diagnostic functions for the computer control microprocessor.

Flash a "low concentrate" warning when the foam concentrate tank(s) run(s) low.

Flash a "no concentrate" warning and shut the foam concentrate pump off, preventing damage to the pump, should the foam tank(s) empty.

A 12 volt electric motor driven positive displacement foam concentrate pump, rated up to 2.6 GPM (9.84

L/min), with operating pressures up to 400 PSI (27.6 BAR), shall be installed in a suitable compartment near the apparatus pump house. A pump motor electronic driver (mounted to the base of the pump) shall receive signals from the computer control display, and power the 1/2 horsepower electric motor.

The electric motor is directly coupled to the concentrate pump in a variable speed duty cycle to ensure that the correct proportion of concentrate preset by the pump operator is injected into the water stream.

System capacity shall be as follows:

An installation and operation manual shall be provided for the unit, along with a one (1) year limited warranty. A system-schematic placard and a system-rating placard shall be supplied and installed in accordance with NFPA standards.

Class "A" foam shall be utilized.

CUSTOM PLUMBING MANIFOLD

The plumbing manifold shall be a custom design that includes the inlet side manifold and the discharge side manifold. Galvanized Victaulic couplings shall be used wherever possible for ease of maintenance and superior corrosion protection.

The inlet side of the plumbing manifold shall utilize schedule 10, 304 grade stainless steel tubing and preformed elbows for inlets that are larger than 3”. Side auxiliary inlets that are 3” or smaller shall utilize schedule 40, 304 grade stainless steel tubing and preformed elbows. The inlet manifold shall thread into the pump auxiliary inlet ports and each inlet valve shall thread onto the inlet manifold.

The discharge side of the plumbing manifold shall utilize schedule 10, 304 grade stainless steel tubing and preformed elbows. The discharge manifold shall connect to the pump discharge ports using ½” stainless steel flanges that shall be machined to seat an O-ring to ensure a leak proof seal. Each discharge shall derive from a port on the manifold assembly connected to a discharge valve with 1/2”

304 grade stainless steel flanges. Discharges that terminate in a location other than the pump module

(i.e. rear discharges) shall utilize a combination of high pressure flex hose and schedule 10, 304 grade stainless steel tubing to allow flexibility between the body and the pump module.

4" TANK-TO-PUMP

There shall be a 4" tank-to-pump plumbed with a Class 1 flexible hose from the tank to the suction side of the pump.

An Akron Brass model 8630 3" Swing-Out™ valve shall be provided. The valve shall have an all brass body with flow optimizing stainless steel ball and dual polymer seats. The valve shall be capable of dual directional flow while incorporating a specially designed flow optimizing stainless steel ball. The valve shall not require lubrication of seats or any other internal waterway parts, and must be capable of swinging out of the waterway for maintenance by the removal of six bolts. The valve shall be manufactured and assembled in the United States. The valve shall carry a ten (10) year warranty by the valve manufacturer.

The valve shall be actuated by an KZ Co. CAN-BUS EH-5 electric actuator installed on the valve. The actuator shall connect to the valve using a KZ Co. AG235 Retrofit Kit specifically for Akron Generation II

Valves.

The electric actuated valve shall be controlled through the Class 1 Ultra View Display.

There shall be a check valve between the pump suction and the booster tank valve. The check valve shall eliminate back flow into the water tank when the pump is connected to a pressurized source.

2" TANK FILL

There shall be a 2" tank fill plumbed from the pump to the tank. Installation shall be completed with 2"

Class 1 rubber hose and stainless steel hose couplings.

The electric actuated valve shall be controlled through the Class 1 Ultra View Display.

There shall be a two (2) piece permanent plate installed that includes a verbiage tag and a black color coded bezel. The verbiage tag shall be etched on aluminum and have 3M-468 adhesive applied to the back for assembly into the bezel. The bezel shall be die cast aluminum construction and color coded on all visible surfaces with an automotive grade paint. 3M VHB adhesive shall be applied to the back.

6" LEFT SIDE STEAMER INLET

There shall be a 6" steamer inlet located on the left side of the pump module. The suction fittings shall include a removable die-cast screen to provide cathodic protection for the pump thus reducing corrosion.

A short steamer barrel shall be installed to accommodate an intake valve without exceeding the legal overall body width.

The drain valve shall be connected to the valve with flexible hose that is routed in such a manner as to assure complete drainage to below the apparatus. A matching color coded bezel shall be included.

The verbiage tag shall be etched on aluminum and have 3M-468 adhesive applied to the back for assembly into the bezel. The bezel shall be die cast aluminum construction and color coded on all visible surfaces with an automotive grade paint. 3M VHB adhesive shall be applied to the back.

6" RIGHT SIDE STEAMER INLET

There shall be one (1) South Park model LHC26P14AC, 6" NST long handle steamer cap provided. The cap shall be manufactured from high quality brass that shall be polished to remove manufacturing irregularities with a chrome finish applied to the polished surface.

There shall be a two (2) piece permanent plate installed that includes a verbiage tag and a chrome color coded bezel. The verbiage tag shall be etched on aluminum and have 3M-468 adhesive applied to the back for assembly into the bezel. The bezel shall be die cast aluminum construction and color coded on all visible surfaces with an automotive grade paint. 3M VHB adhesive shall be applied to the back.

2-1/2" LEFT SIDE INLET

There shall be a 2-1/2" gated inlet, with 2-1/2" plumbing, provided on the left side of the pump module.

The inlet shall be located towards the forward side of the pump module and shall be partially recessed behind the panel in order to keep the valve protected from the elements.

An Akron Brass model 8825 2-1/2" Swing-Out™ valve shall be provided. The valve shall have an all brass body with flow optimizing stainless steel ball and dual polymer seats. The valve shall be capable

of dual directional flow while incorporating a self-locking ball feature using an automatic friction lock design and specially designed flow optimizing stainless steel ball. The valve shall not require lubrication of seats or any other internal waterway parts, and must be capable of swinging out of the waterway for maintenance by the removal of six bolts. The valve shall carry a ten (10) year warranty by the valve manufacturer.

The valve shall be actuated by an Akron Brass model TSC manual actuator installed directly on the valve. The handle shall allow the valve to be controlled directly at the valve.

There shall be a Trident Emergency Products 3/4" quarter-turn drain valve included. There shall be a chrome plated rectangular handle provided on the drain valve to facilitate use with a gloved hand. The drain valve shall be located just above the running board and below the pump panel to reduce clutter in the pump panel area. The drain valve shall be connected to the valve with flexible hose that is routed in such a manner as to assure complete drainage to below the apparatus. A matching color coded bezel shall be included.

The intake shall terminate FNST thread.

There shall be one (1) South Park model HPC3008AC, 2 1/2" NST plug with chain provided. The plug shall be manufactured from high quality brass that shall be polished to remove manufacturing irregularities with a chrome finish applied to the polished surface.

There shall be a two (2) piece permanent plate installed that includes a verbiage tag and a black color coded bezel. The verbiage tag shall be etched on aluminum and have 3M-468 adhesive applied to the back for assembly into the bezel. The bezel shall be die cast aluminum construction and color coded on all visible surfaces with an automotive grade paint. 3M VHB adhesive shall be applied to the back.

2-1/2" LEFT SIDE DISCHARGE

There shall be a 2-1/2" discharge, with 2-1/2" plumbing, located on the left side of the pump module.

The valve shall be capable of dual directional flow while incorporating a specially designed flow optimizing stainless steel ball. The valve shall be manufactured and assembled in the United States. The valve shall carry a ten (10) year warranty by the valve manufacturer.

The valve shall be actuated by an KZ Co. CAN-BUS EH-5 electric actuator installed on the valve. The actuator shall connect to the valve using a KZ Co. AG235 Retrofit Kit specifically for Akron Generation II

Valves.

The electric actuated valve shall be controlled through the Class 1 Ultra View Display. The display shall show pressure as well as valve position indication. The pressure display shall be programmed to either

Bar, PSI, or kPa.

There shall be a Trident Emergency Products 3/4" quarter-turn drain valve included. There shall be a chrome plated rectangular handle provided on the drain valve to facilitate use with a gloved hand. The discharge shall have Class1 model 34AD automatic drains installed in the low routed areas below the 1/4 turn manual drain. The automatic drains shall open whenever pressure in the line drops below 6 psi.

The riser for the deck gun shall terminate with a 3" Victaulic coupling.

TFT RC3 ELECTRIC EXTEND-A-GUN - XGA38VL-RL

A Task Force Tips electric Extend-A-Gun model XGA38VL-RL shall be supplied. The Extend-A-Gun shall allow for a 18" extension of the waterway for the monitor by the push of a button to raise or lower the non-rotating pipe into a locked position. The extension shall have a 3" waterway, a hard coat anodized finish, and built in sensors for connection to the open door alarm.

TASK FORCE TIPS TYPHOON MONITOR

There shall be one (1) Task Force Tips Typhoon, model Y5-E61A, remote controlled electrically operated monitor with 3" NPT inlet provided on the apparatus. The monitor shall be capable of flows up to 1500 gpm with a maximum operating pressure of 200 psi. The monitor shall include a factory installed control panel mounted to the monitor for controlling horizontal rotation, elevation, nozzle pattern, and programmable park and oscillate. Knobs shall be installed so the monitor may be manually operated in the event of power failure. The monitor shall include field changeable stops for horizontal travel at 45, 90 and 135 degrees either side of a center position. Horizontal travel without stops shall be 225 degrees left and right. The main waterway shall be constructed of hard coat anodized aluminum.

MONITOR CONTROL

The monitor shall be programmed and controlled from the Class 1 Ultra View Display.

DECK GUN MANUFACTURER COLOR

The deck gun shall be remain the same painted color that it was when it left the manufacturer.

There shall be one (1) Task Force Tips, model M-ERP1500-NN, automatic master stream electric nozzle with 3-1/2" NH thread swivel base provided. The nozzle shall be capable of producing an excellent stream at any volume from 300 gpm to 1500 gpm. The nozzle shall feature an electric pressure adjustment knob, which allows the operating pressure to be adjusted to tactile detent settings between 70 and 120 psi. The nozzle shall include rubber bumper incorporate TFT "power fog" teeth for fully-filled, finger-free fog pattern. The nozzle shall be lightweight hard coat anodized aluminum for maximum resistance to corrosion and wear.

WATER TANK

The apparatus shall be equipped with a United Plastic Fabricating 700 U.S. gallon rectangular water tank. Certification of the tank capacity shall be recorded on the manufacturer's record of construction and shall be provided to the purchaser upon delivery of the apparatus.

WATER TANK MOUNTING

The water tank cradle shall be an integral part of the body sub-frame. Please reference the sub-frame section for complete water tank mounting information.

WATER TANK DRAIN

There shall be a 1-1/2" drain valve provided under the sump of the water tank. The valve shall include a locking lever to prevent accidental draining of the water tank.

4" WATER TANK SLEEVES

The United Plastic Fabricating water tank shall contain the appropriate number of 4" tank sleeves for plumbing to the rear of the apparatus.

WATER TANK FILL TOWER

The tank shall have a combination vent and manual fill tower marked "Water Fill." The fill tower shall be constructed of 1/2" PT2E™ polypropylene and shall be a minimum dimension of 8" x 8" at the outer perimeter. The tower shall be located in the left front corner of the tank. The tower shall have a 1/4" thick removable polypropylene screen and a PT2E™ polypropylene hinged-type cover. The fill tower shall be blue in color.

4" WATER TANK OVERFLOW

The tank shall be equipped with a minimum of a 4" schedule 40 polypropylene overflow/air vent pipe.

The pipe shall be installed in the fill tower and extend through the tank and dump to the rear of the rear axle.

WATER TANK LEVEL GAUGE

There shall be one (1) water tank gauge level programmed into the Class 1 Ultra View Display.

FOAM CELL

There shall be one (1) United Plastic Fabricating 20 U.S. gallon foam cell incorporated into the water tank. There shall be one (1) pressure/vacuum vent installed on the foam tank. There shall be one (1) drain hose connected to the foam cell. The drain shall have a 1/4 turn valve installed inside the pump module and it shall drain below the frame rail of the chassis. The fill tower on the foam cell shall be green in color.

Class "A" foam shall be utilized.

FOAM TANK LEVEL GAUGE

There shall be one (1) foam tank gauge level programmed into the Class 1 Ultra View Display.

ALUMINUM INTEGRATED PUMP MODULE CONSTRUCTION

The integrated pump module shall be fabricated from 3/16" smooth aluminum sheet. The integrated

pump module shall be constructed with holding fixtures to ensure proper dimensioning.

INTEGRATED PUMP MODULE

The pump module shall be integrated to the body.

TREAD PLATE DUNNAGE COMPARTMENT

There shall be a dunnage compartment located above the forward portion of the body. The dunnage compartment floor shall be constructed of tread plate.

PUMP MODULE LIGHTS

There shall be two (2) Truck-Lite model 9185-40003 incandescent lights installed in the pump module.

The lights shall be activated by an automatic switch in the right side pump module access door and shall be located in a manner that will provide maximum lighting.

REMOTE-MOUNTED CONTROL AND INSTRUMENT PANEL

The apparatus shall be equipped with a moveable remote-mounted pump panel. The panel shall be fabricated of 14-gauge aluminum and have a lightweight wrinkle paint finish that shall be black in color. The panel shall be 12 inches wide and 14 inches high, with a depth of 4 inches. There shall be two (2) carrying handles mounted on the remote panel for ease when relocating panel, one (1) on the right side of the panel and one (1) on the bottom. This provides a dual-axis adjustment vantage point.

The remote pump panel shall include:

- Class 1 UltraView™ 700 Display (UV700)

- Pressure Governor

The UV700 and pressure governor will be stacked on the remote-mounted pump panel, with the governor being located above the UV700.

The UV700 is a 7 inch, full color LCD display, with (14) buttons and touch screen capability with (2) J1939 CAN Bus connections and one (1) NTSC/PAL video inputs at each remote-mounting location. It shall be bonded for direct sunlight viewing, sealed to IP67 and mounted in the flush position.

The UV700’s switches shall be set to act as momentary, maintained or three-way switches without any physical hardware change. All switches and or indicators may be configured as touch screen inputs into the ES-Key™ system. The (14) buttons are blue LED backlit. Upon power-up, the display offers the user the ability to select one of four common scenarios

(that can be custom configured based on departmental needs). If the user wishes not to use a pre-configured scenario screen, they can choose to access either of the two main valve screens by touching a screen link.

The Ultra View Display shall be programmed for operations that include but are not limited to:

- Pump operation information

- Discharge and intake valve operation

- Control of the electric monitor

- Water tank and foam tank levels

- Additional components utilizing CAN-BUS controller when available

The remote-mounted panel shall be plugged into the ES-Key electrical system on the forward wall of L1 or the rear wall of

STATIONARY LEFT SIDE PUMP PANEL

The stationary left side pump panel shall have items that include but are not limited to:

- Test Ports

- Warning Labels

- Data Plates

- Additional external controller required

The stationary left side pump panel shall be coated the same as the body compartment interior.

SIDE DISCHARGE AND INTAKE PANELS

There shall be a panel on each side of the apparatus where the discharges and intakes are located at the front of the integrated pump module.

The side discharge/intake panels shall be coated with black S-Coat™ for maximum resistance to abrasion and to minimize glare. The material shall be capable of withstanding the effects of extreme temperatures and weather.

Shop Note: The lower forward portion of the L1 compartment can be used for the drain valve controls.

Shop Note: The pump controls will be located on the forward wall of the L1 compartment.

Shop Note: The Ultra View screen and the Presure Governor will be stacked one above the other, horizontally.

Shop Note: Upon power up, the Ultra View screen will always need to revert back to the warning label screen.

PUMP PANEL LIGHTS

The enclosed pump panels shall be adequately lit by the lights integral to the rollup doors.

PRESSURE AND VACUUM TEST PORT

There shall be a Class1 model 121384 pressure and vacuum test port provided on the pump panel.

ENGINE COOLER CONTROL VALVE

There shall be a Class1 model 38BV engine cooling control valve provided on the pump panel.

PUMP COOLER CONTROL VALVE

There shall be a Class1 model 38BV pump cooling control valve provided on the pump panel.

DISCHARGE TRIM PLATES

Each gated discharge shall have a chrome plated die cast zinc trim plate around the discharge valve and fitting. The trim plate shall be easily removable without the need to disturb the valve.

A treadbrite running board shall be integrated into the pull-out platform on the side of the pump module.

PULL OUT PLATFORMS

There shall be two (2) Innovative Industries pull out platforms provided that can support a maximum of

500 pounds. The top surface of the platforms shall be constructed of aluminum serrated bar grating for ease of maintenance and to provide a slip resistant surface for the operator. The platforms shall lock in both the retracted and the extended position. The pull out platforms shall be wired to the door-ajar circuit.

The pull out platforms' roller assembly shall have a powder coat finish for added corrosion protection.

The two (2) pull out platforms shall be located one (1) on the left side of the pump house, and one (1) on the right side of the pump house.

SPEEDLAY CONFIGURATION

There shall be two (2) 1-1/2" speedlay pre-connects located ahead of the enclosed pump panel. Class1 high pressure flex hose with stainless steel couplings shall be used in the plumbing.

A Trident 90º swivel elbow to keep the hose from kinking when pulled from either side of the apparatus.

The swivel for each speedlay shall be located outboard for ease of making connections while changing hose.

Each pre-connected speedlay shall be equipped with one (1) removable aluminum tray to aid in loading the hose. The trays shall have an abraded finish.

There shall be a heavy-duty 22 oz. hypalon vinyl coated nylon end flap/cover located on the preconnected speedlays opposite of the pump operator's panel. The top and bottom of the end covers shall be connected using footman loop and J-Hooks with an adjustable buckle.

The color of the vinyl restraint shall be black.

Stainless steel rollers shall be provided at each end of the crosslay hose bed to facilitate deployment of hose. Vertical rollers shall be installed on each side of the hose bed opening, and a horizontal roller shall be installed under the opening.

The floor of the crosslay shall be slotted sufficiently for drainage.

The 1-1/2" crosslay pre-connect shall have a capacity of 200' of 1-3/4" double jacket fire hose.

The crosslay pre-connect shall be capable of holding the hose in a double stack.

The 1-1/2" crosslay pre-connect shall have a capacity of 200' of 1-3/4" double jacket fire hose.

The crosslay pre-connect shall be capable of holding the hose in a double stack.

The interior of the crosslay hose bed shall have a maintenance free abraded finish.

FRONT PUMP ACCESS PANEL

There shall be a tread plate access panel provided on the front of the pump compartment. The panel shall be of the single pan design and shall be positively secured in the closed position utilizing bolts. An aluminum sill protector shall be installed on the bottom of the door opening to protect the paint from chipping and scratching. This area shall be accessible when the cab is tilted.

PUMP ACCESS PANELS

There shall be two (2) access panels provided for the pump module. There will be one (1) bolt on panel located inside the transverse area of L1/R1, on the forward wall, and one (1) vertically hinged panel located on the right side in the forward portion of R1. Both panels shall be Line-X® to match the compartment.

Shop Note: The right side access to the pump is included with the pump panel verbiage.

The following brackets shall be supplied and used to mount the Class 1 Ultra display and pressure governor combo that can be located in either the L1 compartment. or the R3 compartment.

The air horns shall be able to be activated through the Class 1 Ultra View Display.

TRANSVERSE STORAGE COMPARTMENT

There shall be a transverse storage compartment located above the the speedlays. The compartment shall be adequately lit by two (2) 9" On-Scene Night Axe LED lighs. The lights shall be located in the upper portion of the compartment, one (1) on each side.

The compartment shall be accessible from both the left and right sides of the apparatus. Each door enclosing the compartment shall be painted smooth aluminum and shall positively latch using "D" ring latches. The doors shall also be connected to the door-open warning circuit.

Shop Note: The inside of the transverse storage in the pump house will be constructed to accommodate two (2) backboards, and some storage for pike poles that will be determined by engineering. The doors for each side of the compartment will have inner pans welded to them to increase the strength in case something would make contact with the inside.

ALUMINUM BODY CONSTRUCTION

The apparatus body shall be fabricated from 3/16", smooth aluminum sheet. The total outside width of the apparatus body shall not exceed 100 inches (2.54 meters). The width measurement of the sidewalls shall be made from the outside wall of the two opposite sides of the body.

The complete apparatus body shall be fabricated utilizing the break and bend techniques in order to form a strong, yet flexible, uni-body structure. The body shall be constructed with holding fixtures to ensure proper dimensioning. Each apparatus body is specific in design in order to meet the unique requirements of the purchasing fire department.

The main body compartments on each side, as well as the rear center compartment if applicable, shall contain a sweep out floor design. Each compartment shall be made to the most practical dimensions in order to provide maximum storage capacity for the fire department's equipment. The door opening threshold shall be positioned lower than the compartment floor permitting easy cleaning of the compartments.

Continuous, solid welded seams shall be located at the upper front and upper rear corners of the apparatus body. The flooring of all lower, main body compartmentation shall also have solid weld seams. All door jams, on both the top and the bottom, shall be solid welded as well. Each main door jam shall consist of a double jam design, this is comparable to a double struck frame design, which provides superior strength and durability. All double door jams are to be welded together utilizing the plug weld technique. All remaining compartment walls shall be stitch welded.

The compartment floors, specifically L1 and R1, shall have a minimum of two (2) 1" x 2" rectangular tubes welded to the entire width of the compartment floor. The two (2) rear side compartments as well as the rear center compartment, if applicable, shall be welded to the rear deck support structure. This rear deck support structure is specially designed for the galvanized apparatus body substructure. A minimum of two (2) squares tubes, which are 1/4" x 3" x 3", shall run the entire width of the body from sidewall to sidewall. Each lower, rear compartment shall be adequately stitch welded to the cross tubes providing strength and durability to the entire apparatus body.

The body design shall include a "false wall" design in the lower portion of each lower, rear compartment.

This "false wall" is required in order to allow for easy accessibility to the rear electrical components found in the rear taillight cluster area.

On the upper area of the apparatus body, directly above the side compartment door openings, a header is to be fabricated from smooth, aluminum sheet. This area shall be free from any body seams and shall be painted the same color as the apparatus body. The height of the header may vary depending on the following factors: apparatus design, lettering requirements, scene lights and warning light requirements as well as various other options. A "J" channel shall be incorporated into the body design in order to provide a rain gutter to further assist in preventing excessive moisture from getting into the compartments.

ULTRA STAINLESS™ STEEL FASTENERS

Ultra Stainless™ steel fasteners shall be provided for all exposed and unpainted fasteners throughout the body in locations such as overlays, pump panels, and other numerous hardware mounting locations.

The special ingredient in Ultra Stainless™ is Marutex®, which adds 2% molybdenum (moly) to 410 stainless. Moly is the significant component of 316 stainless that provides extra corrosion resistance.

The moly is now added to 410 self drilling screws to produce Ultra Stainless™. This combination provides for unprecedented corrosion resistance combined with hardness for drilling.

GS-36 BODY SUB FRAME

To assure proper body alignment and clearance, the body sub frame shall be constructed in a jig and fitted directly on the chassis. The sub frame shall be constructed of 36,000 PSI galvanized steel.

The chassis frame rails shall be fitted with fiber reinforced rubber to isolate the body frame members

from direct contact with chassis frame rails.

The main body sub frame shall be constructed from steel tubing. The sub frame shall run the full length of the body and shall be spaced the same width as the chassis frame rails. The main sub frame shall also be the integral support for the water tank. Vertical drop tubes shall be welded to the sub frame.

From these vertical drop tubes shall extend cross members constructed of steel angle. These cross members shall extend out to support the compartments. Cross members shall be located at the front and rear of the body and in front and rear of the wheel well opening.

The compartment area behind the rear axle shall be supported by a drop frame fabricated of steel tube and steel angles. The rear drop frame shall be constructed using vertical drop tubes, welded to the main sub frame. All drop frame structures shall be welded directly to the body sub frame to allow the body to be a completely separate structure from the chassis.

After fabrication the sub frame shall be hot dip galvanized for maximum protection against corrosion.

BODY MOUNTING

The body sub frame shall be fastened to the chassis frame with a minimum of six (6) spring loaded body mounts. Each mount shall be configured using a two-piece bracket. The two (2) brackets shall be fabricated of steel plates. The plates shall be painted to prevent any corrosion. Each mounting assembly shall utilizing two (2) plated bolts and two (2) heavy duty springs. The assembly design shall allow the body and sub frame to act as one (1) component, separate from the chassis. As the chassis frame twists under driving conditions, the spring mounting system shall limit any stress from being transferred into the body. The spring loaded body mounts shall also prevent frame side rail or body damage caused by unevenly distributed stress and strains due to load and chassis movement.

Body mountings that do not allow relief from chassis movement shall not be acceptable.

TANK MOUNTING

The water tank shall rest on the sub frame cross members which are spaced as required by the tank manufacturer.

The tank shall be isolated from the cross members through the use of hard rubber strips with a minimum

Rockwell hardness of 60 durometer. Additionally, the tank shall be supported around the entire perimeter and captured front and rear as well as side to side to prevent the tank from shifting during vehicle operations.

Although the tank shall be designed on a free floating suspension principle, it shall be required that the tank have adequate hold down restrains to minimize movement during vehicle operations.

The tank shall be completely removable without disturbing or dismantling the apparatus structure.

EXHAUST HEAT DEFLECTOR SHIELD

There shall be a 5" heat deflector shield installed over the exhaust to aid in dissipating the heat to prevent exhaust heat from adversely affecting anything stored in the body.

LEFT SIDE BODY CONFIGURATION

COMPARTMENT L1

There shall be a full height compartment located ahead of the rear wheels on the left side of the

Each slat shall be equipped with nylon end shoes to assure operation without the need of constant lubrication. The rollup door shall have a satin finish.

The ROM rollup door shall be supplied with a full width lift bar and finger pull handle integrated into the bottom rail for easy one hand operation.

The compartment shall have two (2), 42" ROM V4 LED compartment lights installed. Each light shall feature solid state construction and be waterproof to IPX7 rating. Each V4 LED light shall offer 250 lumens per foot of lighting.

There shall be four (4) galvanneal strut channels, two (2) per side, installed in the full depth, full height compartment.

Shop Note: The strut channels in the L1 compartment will be located rearward of the vertical partition.

There shall be one (1) permanent vertical partition installed in the full height compartment. The partition shall match the compartment interior.

Shop Note: The partition will be placed at the forward edge of the opening of the transverse area and will be full height of the compartment.

There shall be one (1), aluminum adjustable shelf installed on the apparatus in the full depth compartment. The shelf shall be constructed of 3/16" aluminum sheet with 2" lips. The shelf shall have an abraded finish, and shall be designed in such a manner that will allow liquids to readily drain when spilled.

Shop Note: This shelf will be installed in the area rearward of the vertical partition. The shelf will have the standard upward bent lips on the sides on the outboard edges. The inboard edge of the shelf will be bent downwards so that if placed level with the floor of the transverse area, it will form a flatter surface.

There shall be one (1), roll out equipment tray installed on the floor of the compartment. The tray shall be equipped with an Austin Hardware drawer slide. The roller assembly shall have a rated capacity of

3/16" aluminum sheet with 3" lips to prevent items from being shifted during transportation. The tray shall be equipped with the Austin Hardware front drawer release system which allows for one handed latch closed position release. The tray shall have an abraded finish and shall be equipped with a locking slide in order to hold the tray in either a fully extended or closed position.

There shall be three (3) applications in the compartment that shall utilize Turtle Tile Plastics interlocking squares. Each square shall be made from polyvinyl chloride that is flame and chemical resistant. For maximum slip resistance and drainage, each square shall have a grid surface design.

REAR BODY CONFIGURATION

Shop Note: There will be room left for the addition of tripods on the rear in the future.

COMPARTMENT T1

There shall be a full height compartment located at the rear of the apparatus body. This compartment shall be designated as T1 within these specifications and any ensuing paperwork or drawings after contract execution.

- Door Opening 35.00" wide x 35.00" high

- Usable Depth 18.00"

There shall be one (1) ROM rollup door installed on the compartment face. The door shall be a shutter type with 34 millimeter slats that roll onto a spool at the top of the compartment. Each slat shall be equipped with nylon end shoes to assure operation without the need of constant lubrication. The rollup door shall have a satin finish.

The ROM rollup door shall be supplied with a full width lift bar and finger pull handle integrated into the bottom rail for easy one hand operation.

The compartment shall have one (1), 24" ROM V4 LED compartment light installed. The light shall feature solid state construction and be waterproof to IPX7 rating. The V4 LED light shall offer 250 lumens per foot of lighting.

There shall be four (4) galvanneal strut channels, two (2) per side, installed in the full depth compartment.

There shall be one (1), aluminum adjustable shelf installed on the apparatus in the full depth compartment. The shelf shall be constructed of 3/16" aluminum sheet with 2" lips. The shelf shall have an abraded finish, and shall be designed in such a manner that will allow liquids to readily drain when spilled.

There shall be two (2) applications in the compartment that shall utilize Turtle Tile Plastics interlocking squares. Each square shall be made from polyvinyl chloride that is flame and chemical resistant. For maximum slip resistance and drainage, each square shall have a grid surface design.

COMPARTMENT AIR RELEASE

Each compartment shall be vented to help remove trapped air when closing a compartment door. The vent shall be a rubber gasket in the area of the outboard corners of the compartment. Wiring may also be run through these areas.

COMPARTMENT DRAIN HOLES

Each body compartment shall be equipped with drain holes to allow standing water to exit to underneath the apparatus.

LEFT HATCH COMPARTMENTS

There shall be a hatch compartment located on top of the left side compartments. The compartment shall be constructed as an integral part of the apparatus body.

- Door Opening 18" wide x 68" long

- Usable Depth 16"

There shall be two (2) independent tread plate doors covering the compartment.

Each compartment door handle shall be non locking stainless steel recessed "D" ring type handle.

There shall be a safety latch with striker plate included with each door handle assembly.

Lighting shall be provided by two (2) 36 inch LED On Scene Night Axe lights. The lighting shall be enclosed within a tough waterproof Lexan tube enclosure. Night Axe lights shall offer 74 lumens per 18 inches of light and an adjustable beam angle. The lights shall activate when the door is opened.

WALKWAYS AND OVERLAYS

All exterior surfaces designated by the manufacturer as stepping, standing, or walking areas shall be overlaid with 3003 H22 Bright Tread Plate to provide a slip resistant surface, even when the surface is wet. All interior surfaces designated by the manufacturer as stepping, standing, or walking areas shall be slip resistant when the surface is dry. The degree of slip resistance shall be in compliance with the intent of NFPA 1901.

Horizontal walkways shall have .080" aluminum tread plate overlays installed and vertical surfaces shall have .125” aluminum overlays. Overlays shall be installed that are totally insulated from the apparatus with nylon shoulder washers that extend into holes in the body. Stainless steel cap nuts shall be employed where bolt ends may damage equipment or cause injury. After the apparatus is painted and the overlays are reinstalled, they shall be additionally sealed at the edges with a caulking compound.

The exterior top tread plate overlay shall be mounted flush with the outer edges of the apparatus body.

STEPPING SURFACES

Smeal Pumper Demo # 4272

All steps shall have a surface area of at least 35 square inches and shall be able to withstand a load of at least 500 pounds. Steps shall be provided at any area that personnel may need to climb and shall be adequately lighted.

REAR DECK WITH BAR GRATE INSERT

A modular bolt-on deck shall be installed on the rear of the apparatus to form a step area. The rear deck shall be constructed of anti-slip bright tread plate. There shall be a Bar Grate insert fabricated into the step area of the rear deck. The recessed rear deck shall be installed between the left and right side body, below the rear compartments. The rear deck shall be installed with sufficient support to form a sturdy, non-deflecting step area for personnel.

REAR TREAD PLATE OVERLAYS

There shall be aluminum tread plate overlays installed on the inside facing sides of the left and right recessed area on the rear of the apparatus. Overlays shall be totally insulated from the apparatus with nylon shoulder washers that extend into the hole that is drilled into the body. Stainless steel cap nuts shall be employed where bolts may damage equipment or cause injury. After painting and final construction overlays shall be additionally sealed at the edges with a caulking compound.

There shall be a Zico access ladder installed on the rear of the body. It shall be a model RL-15-2-5.

Shop Note: There will also be two (2) folding steps on the inboard face of the recessed right side of the rear.

REAR WHEEL WELLS

The fenders shall be integral with the body sides and compartments with a seamless appearance. The fenders shall be fitted with bolt-in removable full circular inner liners in the wheel well area for ease of cleaning and maintenance. There shall be sufficient clearance provided in the wheel well to allow the use of tire chains when the apparatus fully loaded.

STAINLESS STEEL REAR FENDERETTES

Two (2) stainless steel fenderettes shall be installed at the outboard edge of the rear wheel well area, one on each side. The fenderettes shall be bolted to the apparatus body using nylon washers to space them slightly away from the body to reduce build-up of road grime. The fenderettes shall be constructed of stainless steel that has been polished to a high quality finish.

LEFT SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL POSITION - WL1

There shall be a speedy dry dispenser installed in the rear wheel well area. The compartment shall be a triangle design. The dispenser shall be able to slide out for use. The dispenser shall have a open top for refilling and dispense through the bottom. The dispenser shall be fabricated from aluminum.

The compartment door, hinges and frame shall all be constructed out of stainless steel material. The door shall have a rubber gasket in order to create a 100% seal to protect the interior of the compartment. The door shall be painted job color.

LEFT SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL POSITION - WL3

There shall be a two (2) air bottle compartment with fuel fill installed in the rear wheel well area. The

100% seal to protect the interior of the compartment. The storage compartment shall be a rotational, molded component that is assembled to the door and frame. This assembly process shall prevent the air bottle from making contact with the stainless steel frame while loading and unloading the air bottle.

The door shall have a painted stainless steel finish.

FUEL FILL

The fuel fill pocket shall be located in the left rear triangular shaped SCBA air bottle compartment. The interior of the compartment will be divided into two (2) individual storage areas to accommodate two (2) air bottles and the lower corner shall house the fuel fill.

RIGHT SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL POSITION - WR1

There shall be a three (3) air bottle compartment installed in the rear wheel well area. The compartment shall be a triangle design. The compartment door, hinges and frame shall all be constructed out of stainless steel material. The door shall have a rubber gasket in order to create a 100% seal to protect the interior of the compartment. The storage compartment shall be a rotational, molded component that is assembled to the door and frame. This assembly process shall prevent the air bottle from making contact with the stainless steel frame while loading and unloading the air bottle. The door shall be painted job color.

RIGHT SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL POSITION - WR3

There shall be a three (3) air bottle compartment installed in the rear wheel well area. The compartment shall be a triangle design. The compartment door, hinges and frame shall all be constructed out of stainless steel material. The door shall have a rubber gasket in order to create a 100% seal to protect the interior of the compartment. The storage compartment shall be a rotational, molded component that is assembled to the door and frame. This assembly process shall prevent the air bottle from making contact with the stainless steel frame while loading and unloading the air bottle. The door shall be painted job color.

BODY RUB RAILS

Rub rails shall be installed beneath the compartment doors to protect them from damage should the body be brushed or rubbed against another object. The rub rails shall be 3/16” aluminum channel, 2-1/2” x 1”. The rub rails shall be highly polished and then bright dip anodized.

The rub rails shall be installed on the body utilizing non-corrosive nylon spacers and secured with stainless steel bolts. The outside edge of the rub rails shall be even with the fenderettes and bolt-on steps to prevent snagging.

REAR TOW HOOK

One (1) rear tow hook shall be installed directly below the rear of the chassis frame rails. The tow hook shall be capable of a 15,000 lb. straight pull rating.

HOSE BED

The hose bed shall be located above the water tank and have a minimum capacity of 30 cubic feet in accordance with the latest NFPA regulations. The inside of the hose bed shall be smooth aluminum.

The hose bed shall exit at the rear of the apparatus through a single access opening. The opening shall

be free of obstructions that might interfere with the deployment and loading of hose.

The floor of the hose bed compartment shall be constructed of Dura-Dek fiber reinforced plastic material. The flooring shall be fabricated of "T" beam pultrusions in parallel connected with cross slats that are first mechanically bonded and then epoxied, forming a large sheet. The top portion of each "T" cross section shall measure 1-1/4" wide and 3/16" thick with beaded ends. The vertical portion shall be

3/8" thick, beading out at the bottom to a thickness of 1/2" and tall enough to result in an overall height of 1". The "T" sections shall be spaced 3/4" apart to allow for drainage and ventilation.

Each "T" beam shall be constructed utilizing a core of 250,000 continuous glass fiber strands that are high in resistance to tension, compression and bending. An outer sheath consisting of a continuous strand mat to prevent lineal splitting and slipping shall surround the core. The sheath shall also serve to draw the protective resin to the bar surface. Both reinforcements shall be pulled through an isophthalic polyester resin, treated with antimony trioxide for fire resistance, to form a solid length.

The flooring shall then be protected with a polyurethane coating to screen out ultraviolet rays. This bright white coating shall be baked on and shall provide a pleasing contrast when installed in the apparatus.

The hose bed shall be contain the following hose load:

There shall be a heavy-duty 22 oz. hypalon vinyl coated nylon restraint located on the end of the hose bed. The top of the restraint shall be connected to the tread plate hose bed cover through a C-Rail channel. The bottom of the restraint shall be connected using footman loop and J-Hooks with an adjustable buckle.

The color of the vinyl restraint shall be red.

The interior of the hose bed shall be painted the primary body color.

POWER OPERATED HOSE BED DOORS

The hose bed storage area shall be covered with two (2) hinged aluminum doors. The doors shall be hinged on the outside edges, utilizing full length stainless steel piano hinges. The doors shall lift up and out towards the outside of the body. The doors shall be fabricated with 1/8" aluminum inner panel for superior strength. The outside sheet shall be constructed of anti-slip tread plate.

The hose bed doors shall be power operated utilizing a self-contained hydraulic system. The pressure of the hydraulic system shall be factory set to a pressure that will smoothly power the cover doors upward and downward. The system is designed to keep the doors firmly open when reloading hose as well as to hold the cover doors firmly down in the travel position. Mechanical locks are not required in order to avoid possible injury from accidental closing of cover doors.

Hydraulic cylinders, located in front of the hose bed storage area shall be utilized to open and close the cover doors. The hydraulic system shall be powered by a Monarch Hydraulics power unit. The system shall only allow one door at a time to move. The cylinders, when the doors are in the closed position, shall lower into a secluded compartment that is separate from the stored hose to ensure unobstructed hose deployment operations. The cylinder pins attached to the doors shall be designed to be removable with the doors in the closed position without having to climb inside the hose storage area.

Self-contained switches shall be utilized to raise and lower the cover doors independently. The switches shall be located at the rear of the apparatus in a convenient location allowing the operator to view the hose bed cover doors while operating the mechanism from ground level. The switches shall be the momentary type of switch that requires the operator to hold the switch until the desired movement of the

cover doors is achieved.

The power unit shall be interlocked with the parking brake and shall be operable only when the parkbrake is applied. The doors shall be connected to the open door warning system. An audible alarm shall be located towards the front of the hose bed area designed to warn occupants of the hose bed area that door movement is occurring.

HOSE BED COVER LIGHTING

Four (4), Whelen model 20C0CDCR 5mm 4" round clear LED lights shall be recessed in the inside the hose bed cover doors. The lights shall be activated when the doors is opened.

HOSE BED DIVIDER

There shall be one (1) hose bed divider installed in the hose bed. The divider shall be fabricated from

1/4" smooth aluminum plate and an aluminum extrusion. The divider shall have an abraded finish and mounted on hot-dipped galvanized slide rails at the front and rear of the hose bed. Where no obstruction such as a fill tower is present, the slide rails shall allow full movement of the divider along the width of the hose bed. The hose bed divider shall have an oval shaped hand hold slot to assist in moving the divider. This shall provide the capability for variable hose load configurations and capacities.

Shop Note: HOSE BED CAPACITY The hose bed shall have 90 cubic feet of capacity for hose storage.

HOSE BED LAYOUT The hose bed shall have the following layout (from driver's side to officer's side):

1000' of 5" double jacket hose Divider 600' of 2-1/2" double jacket hose

GROUND LADDER STORAGE

The ground ladders shall be stored on the hydraulic equipment rack with brackets that provide a quick method of removing and reloading the ladders. A quick release shall allow personnel to loosen and unhook the retaining strap in order to remove the ladders; a ratchet style mechanism shall securely and easily fasten the ladders back into place. The bracket shall allow a sectional ladder to still be clamped into position when the roof ladder has been removed.

HYDRAULIC EQUIPMENT RACK

There shall be a hydraulic equipment rack above the high compartments on the right side of the apparatus. The equipment rack shall be operated hydraulically, lowering equipment firmly to shoulder height for easy removal and reloading. The equipment rack shall be painted the same color as the apparatus and shall have space available for two (2) pike poles to be stored directly on the ladder rack.

The control switch shall be located on the right side of the body to allow viewing the equipment rack when operating. The control shall be wired to the parking brake and shall only be operable when the parking brake is applied.

The ladder rack shall be modular in design and built in a "T" shape, pivoting on a 20 inch wide arm. The module shall be located between the high side compartments. There shall be no guide arms or stabilizer arms located on the ends of the rack. The right side compartments shall be accessible when the equipment rack is in either the up or down position.

When in the up position, the lifting mechanism shall be fully retracted into the apparatus body and shall be flush with the side of the apparatus. Pilot operated check valves shall be installed in the hydraulic

system to lock the rack in the stored position by maintaining pressure on the hydraulic cylinder.

There shall be a master shut off switch and a flashing indicator light on the chassis dash to warn the driver when the equipment rack is in the down position or in motion when the chassis parking brake is disengaged. The warning light shall be operative regardless of the position of the master switch.

Reflective striping shall be applied to the ladder rack assembly in a manner that will readily indicate a hazard or obstruction to personnel. In addition to the reflective striping, Whelen TIR3 series LED lights shall be affixed to the front and rear of the equipment rack. These lights shall automatically become energized any time the ladder rack is not fully bedded.

There shall be a shield/enclosure installed on the hydraulic ladder rack. The shield shall protect the lifting mechanism of the ladder rack when in the up and stored position. The cover shall extend from the front of the body to the rearward edge of the body compartments. This enclosure shall enclose the ladders and give the appearnce of recessing the ladders into the body. The shield shall be painted the primary body color.

The following ground ladders shall be supplied with the apparatus:

One (1), Alco-Lite model FL-10 folding aluminum ladder with bracket shall be provided. The ladder shall be equipped with heavy cast aluminum swivel safety shoes and carrying handles. The closed dimensions of the ladder shall be 11' 5" long x 5.25" wide. The bracket shall be a high tensile aluminum alloy spring loaded bracket that will hold the ladder in place when the vehicle is in motion. The ladder shall include a heat sensor label to warn if the ladder has been exposed to excessive heat.

One (1), Alco-Lite model PRL-14, 14' aluminum roof ladder shall be provided. The ladder shall be equipped with high strength steel rotating roof hooks with reinforcing brace and steel butt spurs and rounded aluminum top caps for increased durability. The ladder shall include a heat sensor label to warn if the ladder has been exposed to excessive heat.

One (1), Alco-Lite model PEL-24, 24' two section aluminum ladder shall be provided. The ladder shall be equipped with steel butt spurs and rounded aluminum top caps for increased durability, and an oversized 2 1/4" pulley for ease of operation. The ladder shall include a heat sensor label to warn if the ladder has been exposed to excessive heat.

PIKE POLE STORAGE

There shall be three (3) aluminum tubes for the storage of pike poles.

The pike poles shall be stored on the right side hydraulic equipment rack.

The following pike poles shall be supplied with the apparatus:

HARD SUCTION HOSE STORAGE

There shall be one (1) hard suction enclosed hose tray located inside the body, with the capacity to store one (1) section of hard suction hose. Access to the hard suction hose shall be from the rear of the apparatus through a hinged painted aluminum door.

The suction hose storage shall be enclosed behind the right roll up doors.

TOOL STORAGE

There shall be one (1) enclosed tool storage compartment located inside the body. Access to the

storage shall be from the rear of the apparatus through a hinged painted aluminum door.

Shop Note: This storage will be sized similar to the hard suction storage on the right rear, but the floor of the storage will not drop below the the upper door openings of the L2 and L3 compartments. The depth of this compartment will extend to the forward bulkhead of the L2 compartment, or about 10' deep (See

Jeff Wegner for questions). The door will be hinged, painted, and covered in chevron to match the right rear hard suction door.

The suction hose storage shall be enclosed behind the left roll up doors.

WHEEL CHOCKS

There shall be one (1) pair of Cast Products model TMC1008-4 wheel chocks provided with the apparatus. The wheel chocks shall be mounted in Cast Products model TMC 1010 mounting brackets.

The wheel chocks shall be stored in locations that are easily accessible under the front of the body on the left side of the apparatus.

HANDRAILS

All handrails, unless otherwise stated, shall be constructed of knurled aluminum of not less than 1-1/4" in diameter. All railing shields and brackets shall be chrome plated, and shall be bolted to the body with stainless steel bolts. The lower bracket on all vertical handrails shall have a drain hole drilled in it at the lowest point.

The following handrails shall be provided on the apparatus:

There shall be a vertical handrail installed at the left rear of the apparatus.

There shall be a vertical handrail installed on the right rear of the apparatus.

There shall be a horizontal handrail installed above the rear compartment below the hose bed.

FUEL TANK GAUGE ACCESS PANEL

There shall be a removable panel provided in the rear compartment to allow for access to the fuel tank gauge without removing the fuel tank.

LICENSE PLATE BRACKET

There shall be a license plate bracket mounted on the rear of the apparatus. A clear LED light shall be incorporated into the bracket.

Shop Note: License plate bracket will be on the right rear lower area inboard of the tail lights.

QL-12 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Wiring harnesses shall be the automotive type, engineered specifically for the builder's apparatus, and shall meet the following criteria. Under no circumstances shall diodes, resistors, or fusible links be located within the wiring harness. All such components shall be located in an easy to access wiring junction box or the main circuit breaker area. All wiring shall meet white book, baseline advanced design

transit coach specification and Society of Automotive Engineers recommended practices. It shall be stranded copper wire core with cross linked polyethylene insulation complying with SAE specification

J1128. Each wire shall be hot stamp function coded every three inches starting one inch from the end and continuing throughout the entire harness. In addition to function coding, each wire shall be number, color, and gauge coded.

Wire harnesses shall be wrapped with a high abrasion and chemical resistant thermoplastic polyester elastomer coated polyester yarn for braiding constructions of electrical wiring systems. The braid yarn shall have a minimum tensile strength of 15 lbs. before breaking and have a maximum of 20% elongation before breaking. Temperature properties for the yarn shall range from a minimum 280°F

(138°C) service temperature to a maximum -112°F (-80°C) brittleness temperature with a cold flex tolerance of at least -49°F (-45°C).

Harnesses shall be modular in design; a main harness system subdivided into several smaller subharnesses. The harness subsections shall be connected using Deutsch branded, heavy duty, environmentally sealed, connectors with silicone seals and a rear insertion/removal contact system. For isolation of electrical "zones" the harness subsections shall consist of a main harness, a pump harness with a separate pump gauge panel harness, a left body harness with a separate left compartment harness, a right body harness with a separate right compartment harness, and a rear body harness with two separate rear compartment harnesses.

The main harness and three body harnesses shall interconnect at a central, easy to reach location and their connectors shall not be obstructed by other harnesses or fuel/air lines. In addition, the main and body harness connectors shall be color coded for ease of identification with their respective colors noted on the accompanying electrical diagrams.

Where connectors are not provided by the electrical component manufacturer, all 12 volt lights and other electrical components (excluding rocker and toggle switches) shall connect to the harnesses using

Deutsch brand connectors; butt connectors are considered unacceptable.

All Deutsch connectors shall meet the following criteria:

1. All connectors shall have a minimum IP67 rating.

2. Temperature range from -67°F (-55°C) to 257°F (125°C) continuous at rated current.

3. Only solid contacts will be used. Stamped and formed contacts are unacceptable.

4. All contacts shall be soldered unless a crimping tool or machine is used that gives an even and precise pressure for the terminal being used.

5. All contacts shall be pull-tested to insure their integrity.

CLASS 1 ESKEY ELECTRICAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The apparatus shall be equipped with a Class 1 Eskey Electrical System. There are several key benefits to multiplexing, one is to reduce the number of connections in a vehicles electrical system, because of this it is important to limit the amount of modules that control certain functions of the vehicle.

Outputs:

The outputs shall perform all the following items without added modules to perform any of the tasks:

Load Shedding: The System shall have the capability to Load Shed with 8 levels any output.

This means you can specify which outputs (barring NFPA restrictions) you would like Load

Shed. Level 1 12.9v, Level 2 12.5V, Level 3 - 12.1V, Level 4 - 11.7V, Level 5 11.3V, Level 6

10.9V, Level 7 10.5, Level 8 10.1. Unlike conventional load shedding devices you can assign a level to any or all outputs. No add-on modules shall be acceptable; the module with the outputs

 must perform this function.

Load Sequencing: The System shall be able to sequence from 0 8 levels any output. With 0 being no delay and 1 being a 1 second delay, 2 being a 2 second delay and so on. Sequencing reduces the amount of voltage spikes and drops on your vehicle, and can help limit damage to your charging system. No add-on modules shall be acceptable; the module with the outputs must perform this function.

Output Device: The System shall have solid-state output devices. Each solid-state output shall be a MOS-FET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor - Field Effect Transistors); MOS-FETs are solidstate devices with no moving parts to wear out. A typical relay when loaded to spec has a life of

100,000 cycles. The life of a FET is more than 100 times that of a relay. No add-on modules shall be acceptable; the module with the outputs must perform this function.

Flashing Outputs: The System shall be able to flash any output in either A or B phase, and logic is used to shut down needed outputs in park, or any one of several combined interlocks. The flash rate can be selected at either 80, or 160 FPM. This means any light can be specified with a multiplex truck with no need to add flashers. Flashing outputs can also be used to warn of problems. No add-on modules shall be acceptable; the module with the outputs must perform this function.

PWM: The modules shall have the ability to PWM at some outputs so that a Headlight PWM module is not needed. No add-on modules shall be acceptable; the module with the outputs must perform this function.

Diagnostics: An output shall be able to detect either a short or open circuit.

Inputs:

1. The inputs shall have the ability to switch by a ground or battery signal.

2. The inputs shall be filtered for noise suppression via hardware and software so that RF or dirty power will not trick an input into changing its status.

System Reliability:

The Multiplex system shall be able to perform in extreme temperature conditions, from -40° to +85° C (-

40° to +185° F.) The system shall be sealed against the environment, moisture, humidity, salt or fluids such as diesel fuel, motor oil or brake fluid. The enclosures shall be rugged to withstand being mounted in various locations or compartments around the vehicle. The modules shall be protected from over voltage and reverse polarity.

WEATHERPROOF DOOR SWITCHES

Due the harsh environment and susceptibility to moisture on the fire ground, the fire apparatus compartment doors shall utilize weatherproof switches. Two different types of switches shall be used.

Weatherproof proximity switches shall be utilized where space permits. In tight locations, mechanical weatherproof switches shall be used.

No Exceptions.

The switches shall be used for activation of the compartment lights and to provide a signal to the door open circuit in the cab.

ELECTRICAL TERMINALS

All electrical terminals that are not grounded shall have a protective covers or be in an enclosure.

TAIL LIGHTS

There shall be a M6 series LED tail light assembly installed on each side of the rear of the apparatus.

Each assembly shall include one (1) red LED stop/tail light model number M6BTT, one (1) amber LED model M6T turn light with arrow and one (1) clear LED backup light model M6BUW. The lights shall be

mounted in a chrome plated four dual light composite housing, two each side at the rear. The remaining slot in the housing shall be filled with a warning light specified in the warning light section.

MIDSHIP TURN SIGNALS

There shall be two (2) Truck-Lite model 21 LED midship auxiliary/turn signal lights installed. One (1) light shall be located in the rub rail on each side of the body.

BODY GROUND LIGHTING

There shall be four (4) Grote White 4" round, LED lights model 61E41 installed beneath the apparatus in areas where personnel may be expected to climb on and off of the apparatus. The lights shall illuminate the ground within 30" of the apparatus to provide visibility of any obstructions or hazards. These areas shall include, but shall not be limited to, side running boards and the rear step area.

There shall be four (4) aluminum ground light brackets provided to position each ground light so as to illuminate the ground within 30" of the apparatus.

CLEARANCE LIGHTS

Grote model 65282 red LED clearance lights shall be installed in the rear tailboard as necessary to be in full compliance with applicable ICC and DOT codes and regulations. Clearance reflectors shall be placed on the apparatus to be in full compliance with applicable ICC and DOT codes and regulations.

REAR WORK LIGHT SWITCH

A switch shall be incorporated into the Class 1 (8) swtich bank at the rear of the body. The switch shall be wired to the backup lights to provide additional work lighting. The rear work light circuit shall be deactivated when the park brake is disengaged. In addition to the lights being activated by the above switch, the lights shall also come on when the transmission is placed in reverse.

RECEIVER TUBE FOR PORTABLE WINCH

There shall be two (2) square receiver tubes provided for use with a portable winch. There shall also be an electrical connection provided near the receiver tubes for use with the portable winch.

The receivers shall be located one each side of the apparatus.

The receivers shall have a straight pull rating of 9,000#.

THREE-CAMERA SYSTEM

There shall be three (3) ASA Audiovox cameras programmed into the Class 1 Ultra View Display. There shall be one (1) camera mounted on the left pump panel, one (1) camera mounted on the right pump panel, and one (1) camera mounted on the rear of the apparatus. The cameras shall be programmed in a way on the Class 1 Ultra View Display to allow simaltaneous viewing of all three (3) cameras at once.

Shop Note: Mike Hansen will provide the part numbers and costs associated with ordering the external video multiplexer needed to switch thru the camera views.

GENERATOR

There shall be a Smart Power HR-15, model 2600015, 15,000 watt hydraulic generator installed on the

apparatus. The generator is designed specifically for mounting on top of the vehicle, at the customerspecified location, but can also be easily separated into its three major components (tray, cooler/fan assembly, and reservoir) for mounting in custom applications.

The generator system shall come with a standard 5 year/1,000 hour fully transferable warranty from the generator manufacturer.

The unit shall come equipped with: generator tray assembly (which includes the generator, hydraulic motor, cooler, fan, electronics package, 10 micron spin-on fluid filter and reservoir), axial piston hydraulic pump with pressure compensated control, and Command and Control Center (CCC) display with all required wiring harnesses. The CCC shall be an interactive operator control center, equipped with smart touch solid state buttons, with displays for voltage, frequency, amperage, hour meter, service reminders, operator warnings, system faults and diagnostics. Standard electronics package shall include smart start engagement to reduce mechanical stress, precise voltage and frequency control, cold start system, automatic load and temperature compensation, integrated diagnostics system, and other automated control features to protect system, vehicle and operator.

The generator tray assembly shall be delivered with the cooler/fan assembly mounted such that the hot air is exhausted straight up, through an NFPA approved walking grate.

The body of the generator tray assembly (including reservoir) shall be 34.5'' long x 19'' wide x 22'' high, weighing approximately 490 pounds. The hydraulic pump shall be driven by a chassis transmission mounted power take off (PTO).

Testing

The generator shall be tested in accordance with NFPA 1901.

Shop Note: DO NOT ORDER COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTER GENERATOR DISPLAY WITH

GENERATOR. GENERATOR DISPLAY SHALL BE THROUGH CLASS 1 ULTRA VIEW SCREEN.

There shall be one (1) remote start for the hydraulic generator located in the chassis cab and one (1) remote start shall be located on the pump panel.

GENERATOR PTO CONNECTION

The hydraulic pump for the generator shall be connected to the chassis transmission through a "Hot

Shift", electrically engaged power-takeoff system. The control to engage and disengage the powertakeoff system shall be installed in the chassis cab.

The PTO shall be capable of being operated while in "Drive". This option shall allow for onboard

120/240 volt lights to be operated while driving down the road.

GENERATOR DISPLAY

There shall be a Command and Control Center provided with the generator. The digital meter display shall constantly monitor and display voltage, frequency, current, and system run time. The display shall be capable of displaying total accumulated run time hours when the MODE button is pressed. This information shall be stored in a non-erasable memory.

The Smart Power generator shall be located above the pump module.

16 CIRCUIT NON-GFI LOAD CENTER

There shall be a 120/240 volt load center incorporated into the 120/240 volt wiring system. The load center shall include adequate circuit breakers to protect the loads specified on the apparatus. The entire

120/240 volt electrical system shall be installed in strict compliance with NFPA 1901. This shall include all testing, labeling, wiring methodology, and dimensional requirements. Certification of compliance shall accompany the apparatus at the time of delivery. All 120/240 volt A.C. Wiring shall be done in accordance with NFPA 1901 as well as nationally accepted electrical codes.

BRANCH CIRCUIT OVERCURRENT PROTECTION

Over current protection devices shall be provided for circuits in accordance with NFPA 1901. The load center shall be equipped with a non-GFI two pole main breaker when the six or more individual branch circuits are present. Over current protection devices shall be marked with labels to identify the function of the circuit they protect.

The load center shall be located on the rear bulkhead of the L1 compartment.

Shop Note: The load center will be located on the back wall of the L1 compartment. It will be placed up high and in the forward portion.

There shall be one (1) splash guard/drip pan installed inside the compartment. The aluminum drip pan shall catch drops of water that accumulate on the shutter and drip into the shutter compartment when the door is being rolled up. The plastic splash guard shall act to keep water from being splashed throughout the interior of the compartment while the door is being rolled up. The pan shall also serve to protect the shutter from damage due to impact from behind or below.

UPPER ZONE A

There shall be one (1) Whelen Engineering Freedom, model FN72QLED, 72" LED lightbar installed on the chassis cab roof. The lightbar shall be equipped with two (2) forward facing linear red LED, two (2) forward facing linear white LED, two (2) corner forward facing red LED, and two (2) side facing linear red LED lights.

The light bar shall be equipped with clear lenses. All clear LED lights in the light bar shall be deactivated in the Blocking Right of Way mode.

UPPER ZONE C

There shall be two (2) Whelen, model M9RC, M9 Series Super-LED® lights with chrome flanges installed. Each light shall have red LEDs and a clear lens.

UPPER ZONE B

There shall be one (1) Whelen, model M6RC, M6 Series Super-LED® light with a chrome Flange installed. The light shall have red LEDs and a clear lens.

Shop Note: The upper zone B and D warning lights will be the same height from the ground on each side of body in the headers.

UPPER ZONE D

There shall be one (1) Whelen, model M6RC, M6 Series Super-LED® light with a chrome Flange installed. The light shall have red LEDs and a clear lens.

Shop Note: The upper zone B and D warning lights will be the same height from the ground on each side of body in the headers.

LOWER ZONE A

The warning lights shall be supplied and installed by the chassis manufacturer.

LOWER ZONE B

There shall be one (1) Whelen, model M6RC, M6 Series Super-LED® light with a chrome Flange installed. The light shall have red LEDs and a clear lens.

LOWER ZONE C

There shall be two (2) Whelen, model M6RC, M6 Series Super-LED® lights with chrome flanges

installed. Each light shall have red LEDs and a clear lens.

LOWER ZONE D

There shall be one (1) Whelen, model M6RC, M6 Series Super-LED® light with a chrome Flange installed. The light shall have red LEDs and a clear lens.

TRAFFIC ADVISOR™

There shall be one (1) Whelen model TAM65 LED Traffic Advisor™ installed on the apparatus. The traffic directional light shall contain six (6) high intensity LED lamps, with a red center third brake light, in a black low profile flat style housing.

The traffic directional light shall be recess mounted in the rear of the body.

There shall be a Whelen, model TACTRL1A traffic advisor control head provided with the Traffic

Advisor™. The control head shall be housed in a rugged extruded aluminum case and shall offer eight programmable sequence flash patterns.

LIGHT TOWER

There shall be one (1) Command Light Knight Light KL465 all electric floodlight tower mounted on the apparatus. The unit shall not require tapping into vehicle braking system to be operated, eliminating the chance for vehicle brake problems. Hydraulic or pneumatic type floodlights not be acceptable alternatives to the all electric light tower specified.

The light tower shall be capable of overhanging the side of the vehicle to provide maximum illumination and a warming area adjacent to the vehicle. The light tower shall have six (6) weatherproof 650 watt,

120 volt quartz halogen lights. The light tower shall have slip-rings for full 360 rotation. Further the tower shall be capable of rotating either direction from a stowed position, no exceptions. The tower base shall have a light the illuminates the envelope of motion during any movements of the light tower mast. The light tower shall have a full extension of 87-1/2" from mounted position and extend from nest position to full upright in 15 seconds. The overall size of nested light tower shall be approximately 24" wide x 47" long x 13" high, and weight approximately 145 lbs. The light tower shall be all aluminum construction, with stainless steel shafts and bronze bushings for long life and low maintenance.

The 120 volt light shall be controlled with a circuit breaker.

LIGHT TOWER CONTROL

The light tower shall be controlled with a hand-held umbilical line remote control. The storage station for the remote control unit shall be equipped with a button to activate the "Auto-Park" automatic nesting feature. The controls on the remote box shall be:

1. Three (3) switches, one (1) for each light bank.

2. One (1) light bank rotation switch.

3. One (1) switch for elevating lower stage.

4. One (1) switch for elevating upper stage.

5. One (1) indicator light to indicate when light bank is out of roof nest position.

6. One (1) indicator light to indicate when light bank is rotated to proper nest position.

7. One (1) on/off switch for the top mounted strobe. (For optional strobe)

A back-light option shall be supplied with the light tower. This option allows you to rotate the lower set of

lampheads 180° to illuminate the other side of the scene.

A green strobe light shall be supplied with the light tower mounted at the highest position. A switch shall be provided on hand held control head for strobe light.

The light tower shall be located above the pump module of the apparatus. The controls for the light tower shall be located inside compartment L1.

LED SURFACE MOUNT 12 VOLT LIGHT

There shall be one (1) Fire Research Spectra LED Scene Light model SPA260-Q15 surface mount light installed on the apparatus. The light shall be mounted with four (4) screws to a flat surface. It shall be no more than 5-7/8" high by 14-1/2" wide and have a profile of less than 1-3/4" beyond the mounting surface. Wiring shall extend from a weatherproof strain relief at the rear of the lamphead.

The lamphead shall have sixty (60) ultra-bright white LEDs, 56 for flood lighting and 4 to provide a spot light beam pattern. It shall operate at 12/24 volts DC, draw 13/6.5 amps, and generate 15,000 lumens of light. The lamphead shall have a unique lens that directs flood lighting onto the work area and focuses the spot light beam into the distance. The lamphead shall be powder coated. The LED scene light shall be for fire service use.

The 12 volt front scene light shall be controlled by one (1) switch located in the chassis cab and one (1) located at the pump panel. Each switch shall have an indicator that shall illuminate when the switch is in the “ON” position. The light shall be controlled by one (1) switch at each location. Each switch shall be labeled "LEFT SCENE."

The 12 volt scene light shall be located on the left side of the apparatus body.

12 VOLT SCENE LIGHTS

There shall be two (2) Whelen, model M9LZC, Super-LED® Gradient Scene lights installed on the apparatus. Each lights shall be complete with chrome flanges.

The 12 volt rear scene light shall be controlled by one (1) switch located in the chassis cab and one (1) switch located at the pump panel. Each switch shall have an indicator that shall illuminate when the switch is in the “ON” position. The light shall be controlled by one (1) switch at each location. The switch shall be labeled "REAR SCENE."

In addition to each switch located in the cab and at the pump panel, the 12 volt rear scene light shall be activated by the rear work light switch and when the apparatus is placed in reverse.

The 12 volt scene light shall be located on the rear of the apparatus body.

The 12 volt scene light shall be located on the right side of the apparatus body.

ELECTRIC CORD REEL

There shall be a Hannay, model ECR1626-12-19-6, 120 volt electric rewind cord reel installed on the apparatus. A push button labeled REEL REWIND shall be installed for 12 volt rewinding of the cord reel.

Rollers shall be supplied to prevent damage to the electrical cable if pulled in any direction.

The cord reel shall be equipped with 200' of yellow STW Seoprene 10/3 wire installed with a cable stop to prevent damage to cable fittings.

JUNCTION BOX

There shall be an Akron Brass Extenda-Lite, model EJBX, back lighted electrical junction box equipped with four (4) electrical receptacles, two (2) per side. Each receptacle shall be equipped with a spring loaded snap cover. The cord reel shall be prewired to the cast aluminum junction box to supply power to the four (4) receptacles. An extension cord shall be connected to the junction box through a heavy-duty water resistant strain relief and flexible extender. Each side of the junction box shall be fitted with polypropylene faceplates, which are backlighted, so that plug orientation to the receptacles is quick and easy to align.

The junction box shall be equipped with an Akron Brass model CS cord stop.

A tread plate mounting bracket shall be included.

There shall be two (2) NEMA 5-20R, 120 volt, duplex, 3-wire, straight blade (household type) receptacles installed in the junction box. Each receptacle shall have a 20 ampere rating.

There shall be two (2) NEMA L5-20R, 120 volt, single, 3-wire, twistlock receptacles installed in the junction box. Each receptacle shall have a 20 ampere rating.

The reel shall be located in the L3 compartment.

RECEPTACLE

There shall be one (1) NEMA L5-20R, 120 volt, single, 3-wire, twistlock receptacle installed on the apparatus. The receptacle shall have a 20 ampere rating and include a spring-loaded weather resistant cover if mounted in an exterior location.

The receptacle shall be located on the left lower rear face of the body.

RECEPTACLE

There shall be one (1) NEMA L5-20R, 120 volt, single, 3-wire, twistlock receptacle installed on the

The receptacle shall be located on the right lower rear face of the body.

There shall be one (1) NEMA L6-30R, 240 volt, single, 3-wire, twistlock receptacle installed on the apparatus. The receptacle shall have a 30 ampere rating and include a spring loaded weather resistant cover if mounted in an exterior location.

The receptacle shall be located in the L3 compartment.

RECEPTACLE

There shall be one (1) NEMA L6-30R, 240 volt, single, 3-wire, twistlock receptacle installed on the apparatus. The receptacle shall have a 30 ampere rating and include a spring loaded weather resistant cover if mounted in an exterior location.

The receptacle shall be located in the R3 compartment.

4-POSITION SWITCH PANELS

There shall be two (2) 4-Position Class 1 1Touch Switch Panels. One (1) panel shall be located on the left side of the body, and one (1) panel shall be located on the right side of the body. The switches shall be covered with swtich caps with colors to be provided at pre-construction.

8-POSITION SWITCH PANEL

There shall be a 8-Position Class 1 1Touch Switch Panel located at the rear of the body. The switches shall be covered with swtich caps with colors to be provided at pre-construction.

Shop Note: The items that will be tied into these switches will be the rear scene lights, the right side scene lights, the left side scene lights, the air horn button, and the generator activation. The rest will be decided later or will be left blank.

BODY PAINT PREPARATION

After the body and components have been fabricated and assembled they then shall be disassembled

prior to painting so when the apparatus is completed there shall be finish paint beneath the removable components. The apparatus body and components shall be metal finished as follows to provide a superior substrate for painting.

All aluminum sections of the body shall undergo a thorough cleaning process starting with a phosphoric acid solution to begin the etching process followed by a complete rinse. The next step shall consist of a chemical conversion coating applied to seal the metal substrate and become part of the aluminum surface for greater film adhesion.

After the cleaning process, the body and its components shall be primed with a High Solids primer and the seams be caulked.

All bright metal fittings, if unavailable in stainless steel or polished aluminum, shall be heavily chrome plated. Iron fittings shall be copper under plated prior to chrome plating.

PAINT PROCESS

The paint process shall follow the strict standards as set forth by PPG Fleet Finish Guidelines.

The body shall go through a three-stage paint process: primer coat, base coat (color), and clear coat. In the first stage of the paint process the body shall be coated with PPG F3980 Low VOC / High Solids primer to achieve a total thickness of 2-4 mills. In the second stage of the paint process the body shall be painted with PPG FBCH Delfleet™ High Solids Polyurethane Base Coat. A minimum of two to three coats of paint shall be applied to achieve hiding. In the final stage of the paint process the body shall be painted with PPG DCU-2002 Clear Coat. A minimum of two to three coats shall be applied to achieve a total dry film thickness of 2-3 mills.

As part of the curing process the painted body shall go through a Force Dry / Bake Cycle process. The painted components shall be baked at 185 degrees for 3 hours to achieve a complete coating cure on the finished product.

HAND POLISHED

After the Force Dry / Bake Cycle and ample cool down time, the coated surface shall be sanded using

3M 1000, 1200, and or 1500 grit sandpaper to remove surface defects. In the final step, the surface shall be buffed with 3M super-duty compound to add extra shine to coated surface. No more than .5 mil of clear shall be removed in this process.

BODY COLOR

The body shall be painted with PPG High Solids Polyurethane Base Coat. The single tone body shall be painted (RED) PPG# FBCH-71096-ALT (X2).

UNDERCOATING

The apparatus shall undergo a two (2) step undercoating process. The first step shall be a rubberized polyurethane base compound that is applied after the body has been primed. The materials used incorporate unused paint products to reduce the amount of waste released into the environment. This coat shall be applied to all hidden pockets and surfaces that shall not be visible after completion.

As a final step, the entire underside of the body shall be coated with a bituminous based automotive type undercoating when the apparatus is completed. During this application, special care shall be taken to avoid spraying the product on air lines, cables, or other items that would cause normal maintenance

to be hindered.

COMPARTMENT COATING

The interior of the body compartment shall be coated with gray Line-X®. thermoplastic polyurethane coating. The coating shall be durable enough to withstand every day abuse of equipment removal and shifting.

LINE-X® THERMOPLASTIC COATING

In designated areas, Line-X® XS-350, a two component spray-in-place thermoplastic polyurethane system shall be used for maximum protection of the body and equipment. Line-X® XS-350 is a 100% high performance aromatic solids pure polyuria elastomeric membrane. The coating shall be a fast cure, textured surface, multi-purpose material designed for commercial and industrial applications. It shall exhibit excellent adhesion to the body and serve as a protective, abrasion resistant liner where applied.

The coating shall exhibit the following minimum typical physical properties:

1. Tensile strength - 3,432 PSI (ASTM D-412)

2. Elongation - 162% (ASTM D-412)

3. Tear Strength - 783 PLI (ASTM D-624)

4. Shore D Hardness - 60 +/-1 (ASTM D-2240)

TOUCH UP PAINT

One (1) two ounce bottle of acrylic enamel touch-up paint or two (2) touch up paint pens, if color is available, shall be supplied.

CORROSION PREVENTION

One (1) 3.75 ounce tube of Electrolysis Corrosion Kontrol (ECK) shall be provided to use whenever additional items are mounted to the apparatus.

ECK protects aluminum and stainless steel against electrolytic reaction, isolates dissimilar metals and gives bedding protection for hardware and fasteners. ECK contains anti-seizing lubricant for threads.

ECK is dielectric and perfect for use with electrical connectors.

NFPA COMPLIANT REFLECTIVE STRIPING

Reflective striping shall be applied to the exterior of the apparatus in a manner consistent with NFPA

1901. It shall consist of a 4", and a 2" wide stripe low across the front of the chassis and along the sides up to the first compartment on each side where it shall transition to a point in the upper compartments where it then shall run level to the back edge of the body. There shall be a 1" gap provided between each of the stripes.

There shall be a reflective "Z" located in the reflective striping on each side of the apparatus where the stripe transitions from low to high.

There shall also be a stripe on the mid poriton of the cab, just below the paint break.

REFLECTIVE STRIPE TERMINATION

The NFPA reflective stripe located on the side of the apparatus shall wrap partially around the front of the chassis cab and angle towards the headlights.

There shall also be reflective striping provided on the front face of the bumper.

The color of the main reflective striping on the apparatus shall be black.

RUB RAIL REFLECTIVE STRIPING

There shall be 2" reflective striping installed in the rub rail channel. The reflective striping shall be diamond grade quality material for increased visibility. The reflective shall be silver in color.

CAB DOOR REFLECTIVE STRIPING

A minimm of 96 sq. in. of reflective chevron striping shall be applied to the interior of each cab door. The color of the striping shall match the rear of the apparatus.

CHEVRON REFLECTIVE STRIPING ON REAR

In addition to the custom striping pattern supplied on the apparatus, there shall be additional reflective striping applied to the entire rear of the unit. The reflective striping shall cover at least 50% of the rear facing vertical surface per NFPA 1901. The striping shall consist of alternating reflective stripes. Each stripe shall be a minimum of 6" in width and shall be applied to the apparatus at 45° angle.

The chevron pattern shall include the any other painted storage compartment doors. The T1

Compartment shall be excluded from the chevron pattern.

CHEVRON REFLECTIVE STRIPING, RED/FLUORESCENT YELLOW-GREEN

The chevron striping shall consist of 3M part numbers 1172 EC, red and 3983, fluorescent yellow-green.

Only 3M Diamond Grade™ VIP Reflective Striping shall be used. 3M Diamond Grade™ VIP Reflective

Striping is a wide angle prismatic lens reflective sheeting designed for the production of durable traffic control signs and delineators that are exposed vertically in service. This sheeting is designed to provide higher sign brightness than sheetings that use glass bead lenses. It is intended to also provide high sign brightness in the legibility distance where other sheetings do not.

GOLD LEAF LETTERING

There shall be sixty (60) 22KT gold leaf letters provided and installed on the apparatus. The letters shall be approximately 3" tall with black outline and shadow.

CUSTOM CHASSIS

It is the intent of the technical specifications contained herein to ensure the custom cab and chassis specified shall be engineered, designed, and manufactured exclusively for heavy-duty continuous use in extreme environments and rigorous adverse conditions.

Each custom cab and chassis shall be manufactured in strict compliance with all applicable requirements as set forth in the current edition of the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) pamphlet 1901 with maximum safety as the key focus throughout the design and development phase of each fire and rescue chassis.

CHASSIS WHEELBASE

The chassis wheelbase shall be 220 inches.

CHASSIS FRAME RAILS - TRIPLE

The chassis frame rails shall be constructed of 110,000-PSI minimum yield steel that has been formed into a "C" channel shape with dimension of 10.50" x 3.50" x .375 inches.

Two inner frame liner of 110,000-Pound minimum yield with dimension of 9.69" x 3.13" x .313" and 9.0" x 2.81" x .313" shall be added to provide addition strength and reduce deflection. The second rail shall run from centerline of front axle to rear of the mainframe rail. The second rail liner shall be mitered at 45 degrees at the front axle. The third rail shall extend from the rear of the front "rear" spring hanger to the front of the forward rear spring hanger.

The resulting frame system shall have a minimum section modulus of 40.09 cubic inches with a resisting bending moment of 4,406,900-inch pounds per rail.

The frame rails shall be powder coated in order to insure superior paint adhesion. Frame cutouts for the engine shall be made with a plasma torch in order to minimize the heat-affected zone caused by the cut.

All frame-mounted components shall be secured with grade eight bolts with hardened washers and distorted thread locknuts. Flanged head bolts with nylon locking nuts, or huck bolts shall not be acceptable.

FRAME RAIL PAINT

The frame and running gear shall be painted gloss enamel black. The running gear shall consist of the axles, drivelines, air tanks, steering gear, frame mounted brackets, drag link, and fuel tank.

The air system piping and electrical harnesses shall not be installed until after the paint has cured. This shall insure complete coverage behind those items as well as that air piping and wiring harnesses are not.

PAINTED TOW HOOKS

Two (2) painted tow hooks shall be mounted to the bottom of the front bumper frame extension rails. The tow hooks shall be attached with Grade 8 bolts.

FRONT BUMPER

There shall be a 12” high, two rib front bumper constructed of highly polished, 10 gauge stainless steel.

The bumper shall be a full wrap around type extending across the entire width of the cab. The return portion of the wrap around shall make up the majority of the bumper extension, measuring up to 24” in length.

FRONT BUMPER EXTENSION

There shall be a twenty four inch (24”) frame extension provided. The extension shall be made from heavy-duty steel in both C-channel and tubular shapes. The frame rail extension material shall measure 7” high x 3.5” wide x .375” wall thickness.

Extension shall be bolted to the chassis frame rails through reinforcement plates, backed by the engine mounting crossmember. Fasteners utilized shall be Grade 8 bolts.

GRAVELSHIELD

A gravelshield constructed of 1/8" (.125") embossed aluminum tread plate shall be installed above the frame extension between the bumper and the front face of the cab.

CENTER BUMPER COMPARTMENT

There shall be a compartment provided in the front bumper gravelshield, centered between the frame rails fabricated of 1/8" (.125) smooth aluminum plate with drain holes to promote airflow.

CENTER FRONT BUMPER COMPARTMENT COVER

The center bumper compartment shall have a raised hinged aluminum tread plate cover to secure the contents. The cover shall be secured in the closed position with a stainless steel latch.

PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR HORN

There shall be one-(1) 24" long Grover air horn installed in compliance with NFPA thru the front bumper, passenger's side, outboard of the frame rail. The air horn shall be plumbed to the chassis, air supply system thru an air protection valve, and manufactured from spun brass material with an easily separated die cast sounding unit for serviceability.

DRIVER'S SIDE AIR HORN

There shall be one-(1) 24" long Grover air horn installed in compliance with NFPA thru the front bumper, driver's side, ouboard of the frame rail. The air horn shall be plumbed to the chassis, air supply system thru an air protection valve, and manufactured from spun brass material with an easily separated die cast sounding unit for serviceability.

LANYARD AIR HORN CONTOL

There shall be one-(1) Lanyard air horn control installed in the cab between the driver and the officer. The

Lanyard shall be wired thru the chassis air brake system.

AIR HORN WIRING

The air horns shall be active in both the "Scene" and "Response Mode".

HORN/AIR HORN SELECTOR SWITCH

A driver controlled horn/air horn selector switch shall be installed in the cab and operate either air horn(s) or chassis electric horn through the horn ring button.

DRIVER'S SIDE SPEAKER

There shall be one-(1) speaker shall be installed thru the front face of the bumper, driver's side, outboard.

The speaker shall be a Federal, Model ES-100, 100-watts with "EF" grille wired to the electronic siren.

FRONT AXLE

The front axle shall be a Meritor MFS-20 with 23,000-pound capacity equipped with oil seals and transparent cover for oil level inspection.

STEERING SYSTEM

The steering system shall be a package certified by TRW for the application. All components after the steering column to the drag link shall be manufactured by TRW.

The steering system shall use a TAS-65 steering gear with an RCS-55 slave gear, which has the capacity to static steer the chassis loaded to 22,500 pounds with 425-size tires. The use of two-(2) equal size gears or a single gear with an assist cylinder shall not be acceptable.

FRONT SUSPENSION

The front suspension shall be semi-elliptical spring type, with minimum of 11 leaves (5 x .558 thick and 6 x .499" thick) 23,000 pounds capacity. The leaves shall be a minimum of 4" wide x 54" long (flat), with grease fittings for lubrication installed in the spring pins. Axle stops with energy absorbing jounce bumpers shall be supplied on the spring top pad. Double acting Koni shock absorbers shall be provided on the front suspension.

FRONT BRAKES

The front axle shall be equipped with EX-225 air operated disc brakes and ventilated rotors.

CRAMP ANGLE

The cramp angle of the front axle shall be 41 degrees.

FRONT TIRES

The front tires shall be Goodyear 425/65-R22.5 Load Range "L" G-296 MSA all-weather treads with a capacity of 23,000 pounds.

FRONT WHEELS

The front axle wheels shall be Alcoa Polished Aluminum for 425 tires with a rating of 23,000-pounds.

FRONT WHEEL TRIM

The front axle wheels shall be trimmed with stainless steel hub and lug nut covers. The axle’s hub covers shall be equipped with holes for oil level viewing.

FRONT MUD FLAPS

The front axle mud flaps shall be constructed from hard black rubber and installed behind the front axle.

REAR AXLE

The rear axle shall be a Meritor RS-30-185 with a 33,000-pound service rating. The axle shall be equipped with oil seals.

REAR SUSPENSION

The rear axle suspension shall be rated up to 33,000 pounds capacity. The main spring pack shall have thirteen (13) leaves with a four (4) leaf auxiliary pack. The suspension shall be a torque leaf, variable rate, self-leveling slipper type.

REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL

The Meritor RS series rear axle shall have a standard differential.

VEHICLE TOP SPEED

The rear axle shall be geared for a top speed of 60-62 MPH at governed engine speed.

REAR BRAKES

The rear axle shall be equipped with 16-1/2" x 8-5/8" S-Cam air operated brakes with automatic slack adjusters.

REAR TIRES

The rear tires shall be Goodyear 315/80R22.5 L/20 Ply- G670RV all-weather treads with a rated capacity of 33,000 pounds.

REAR WHEELS

The rear wheels shall be Alcoa Polished aluminum, 9.00" X 22.5"10-bolt, hub-piloted type. The outside wheels shall be polished on the outer surface. The ground rating shall be a minimum of 33,000 pounds.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM

Each tire installed on the apparatus shall be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring device. The device shall consist of a valve stem cap to with an LED tire alert to indicate tire pressure conditions. The LED shall flash when the tire drops 8 psi below the factory setting .

REAR WHEEL TRIM

The rear axle wheels shall be trimmed with stainless steel "Lincoln Hat" hub and lug nut covers.

HOSE AND HARNESS ROUTING

Battery cables, hydraulic hoses and air lines shall be routed through the vertical face of the chassis frame rails using bulkhead connectors. The use of grommets through frame rails, as well as running hoses or cables under, over or ahead of the chassis frame rails to achieve positive connections shall not be acceptable.

For ease of maintenance, the wiring harnesses, hydraulic hoses and air hoses shall be divided down each frame rail. The hydraulic and air hoses shall be run, primarily, down the inside of the right side frame rail, while the electrical harnesses shall be run, primarily, down the left side frame rail. Harnesses and hoses shall be mounted using rubber coated, stainless steel holders and, where necessary, heat resistant zip loom.

AIR BRAKE SYSTEM

The air brake system shall meet the requirements of FMVSS-121. The system shall consist of three-(3) reservoirs with a total capacity of 5100 cubic inches. The system shall be of dual circuit and quick build up design powered by an engine mounted gear driven air compressor. The system shall be protected by a heated air dryer with heated automatic moisture ejector on the wet tank and quarter turn brass drain valves on the other tanks.

The system shall be plumbed using color-coded nylon airlines with brass push-lock fittings.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES W/ATC & ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

The apparatus shall have a Wabco ABS-based Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which offers another level of vehicle control. This automatic braking management system reduces the possibility of a side rollover and assists in the directional stability of apparatus. Upon reaching critical lateral acceleration thresholds, the system intervenes to regulate the vehicles deceleration and braking functions. Reducing the engine’s RPM by overriding the foot throttle input and applying the engine retarder (if equipped) to slow the apparatus giving the driver added control and maneuverability. The ESC shall also apply braking power to selective wheel of the front and rear axles to assist in stabilizing the apparatus to its intended direction. This selective braking application and reduction of speed and torque reduces the possibility of spinouts and side rollovers even in adverse conditions.

The system includes a Wabco 4-channel Anti-Lock Braking System shall be installed which includes four-(4) wheel sensors and four-(4) modulators to control and compensate braking force at each wheel.

This system shall monitor all wheel ends regardless of suspension type, and which axle it sees braking forces first.

An ABS warning light shall be installed on the driver's dash that remains illuminated until the vehicle is moving at least four-(4) miles per hour. An ABS test switch shall be installed in the "Diagnostic

Information Panel" that when pressed, sends the system into diagnostic mode causing the ABS light to blink (I/O) indicating a flash code. A listing of flash code definitions is listed in the Wabco Owner's

Manual.

Automatic Traction Control (ATC) shall be installed to sense wheel slip, apply air pressure to brakes, and reduce engine torque to provide improved traction. An ATC indicator light shall illuminate when the system is active.

A mud and snow switch shall be provided. When the switch is in the "ON" position, it shall allow momentary wheel slip to obtain traction under extreme mud and snow conditions.

The system also includes a Steering Angle Sensor (SAS), which informs the system of the degree in which the steering is turned to one side or the other. Along with the SAS, an ESC module is mounted mid frame at the rear of the chassis cab to detect roll, pitch, and yaw angles and computes which wheel(s) brake(s) shall be acted upon.

DEDICATED AIR HORN RESERVOIR

One (1) 1700 cubic inch additional reservoir shall be connected to the chassis air system to provide an air supply for the chassis air horns. This reservoir shall include a pressure protection valve on the inlet side to allow full use of this tank without draining air from the chassis air system.

AIR DRYER

The air system shall include a Wabco System Saver 1200 air dryer with integral 12-volt heated moisture ejector. The air dryer shall have a spin on desiccant cartridge and incorporate an integral turbo cutoff valve. The turbo cutoff allows the air dryer to purge water and contaminants without any loss of turbo boost or engine horsepower.

ENGINE

The vehicle shall be equipped with a Cummins ISL 450 turbocharged diesel engine. Standard features include an electronic governor, electronically controlled unit injectors, Farr air cleaner, a 12-volt starter

Delco 39 MT, and an 18.7 CFM compressor. The oil filter shall be a full flow and bypass design.

This engine conforms to the US 2013 EPA regulations for heavy-duty diesel engines.

ENGINE COMPRESSION BRAKE

The engine shall come equipped with a Jacobs “C-Brake” compression brake controlled by an off/low/high switch located in the cab. The compression brake shall interface with the anti-lock brake controller to prevent engine brake operation during adverse braking conditions.

A pump shift, interlock circuit shall be provided to prevent the engine brake from activating during pumping operation.

The engine brake shall be programmed to default to 2nd gear with an aggressive downshift.

Engine High Idle Speed: 1250 RPM

ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM

The engine cooling system shall have the capacity to cool the engine according to the engine manufacture’s requirements.

RADIATOR

The engine radiator shall be of a bolted design and have a minimum core area of 1400 square inches. The top and bottom tanks shall be stamped 16-gauge steel. The tanks shall be attached to the header assemblies with a minimum of fifty-(50), 5/16" bolts. The spacing between fasteners shall not exceed

2.00 inches in order to minimize the possibility of leaks.

The header plates shall be made of 16-gauge brass while the tubes shall be .0068-inch thick brass and

.076 by .625 inches in size. The tubes shall have a smooth bore with welded seems which allows for cleaning of the radiator.

The radiator shall contain three rows of tubes with a minimum of 87 tubes per row for a total of not less than 261 tubes. The tubes shall be arranged in an inline profile across the core. Louvered serpentine fins constructed of copper with a density not greater than 16 fins per inch shall be used in the construction of the radiator.

The radiator tubes shall be attached to the header plates with a dual bonding process. The coolant side connection shall be welded, while the air side shall be soldered.

The top tank shall include an integral de-aeration tank, which removes air from the engine water. A low coolant warning shall be incorporated to alert the driver.

The bottom tank of the radiator shall incorporate an oil to water plate-type cooler for the transmission.

The cooler is designed to cause a turbulent flow of the transmission oil through the core to force heat transfer. The cooler shall be sufficient to cool Allison Transmission without output retarders.

A high efficiency fan shall be direct driven by the engine and surrounded by a fan shroud. The sweep of the fan shall not exceed the width of the radiator core.

CHARGE AIR COOLER

The charge air cooler shall be constructed of aluminum with cast, aluminum side tanks. The cooler shall have a frontal core area of not less than 888 square inches.

The exterior fins shall be louvered serpentine design constructed of .006-inch thick aluminum and have a density no greater than seven-(7) fins per inch. The internal fins shall be designed to create air turbulence in order to increase heat transfer efficiency.

The charge air cooler shall be mounted directly ahead of the radiator and to the radiator headers. Rubber isolators shall be used at the mounting points to reduce transmission of vibrations.

The piping between the charge air cooler and engine shall use four-(4) ply silicone woven Nomex hoses with stainless steel bands. The bands are used to maintain the shape of the hose during changing turbo boost pressures. The hoses shall be attached with stainless steel constant tension hose clamps.

COOLING SYSTEM FAN

The engine cooling system shall incorporate a thermostatically controlled fan clutch. When the fan clutch is disengaged, the vehicle shall have improved vehicle performance, cab heating in cold climates, and fuel economy, while eliminating the potential dangers associated with a fan going from non-rotating to rotating as found with other style fan clutches.

The fan shall automatically lock-up when the vehicle is placed in pumping mode.

A shroud and recirculation shields system shall be used to ensure that once air has passed through the radiator, the same air is not drawn through again.

COOLANT SYSTEM FILTER

A pre-charged, spin-on filter, with corrosion inhibitors shall be installed in the cooling system. Shut off valves shall also be supplied.

RADIATOR COOLANT - LONG LIFE

The coolant system shall contain a mixture to keep the coolant from freezing to a temperature of -34 degrees F.

The coolant supplied shall be Long Life Coolant compatible with the engine manufacturer's requirement.

SILICONE COOLANT HOSES

The chassis shall be equipped with silicone hoses for the radiator and heater circuits.

HOSE CLAMPS

Constant tension hose clamps shall be provided for all coolant and heater hoses of 1/4" diameter and greater.

AUXILIARY ENGINE COOLER

The cooling system shall have a tube and bundle engine cooler mounted in the upper radiator water pipe.

Water from the fire pump shall be circulated through 1/2" tubing to the cooler. A valve located on the pump panel shall control the cooling circuit.

ALTERNATOR

The alternator shall be 320 amps Leece Neville model 178-131-100. The alternator shall be engine driven via a poly-groove power belt and tensioned by a threaded rod. The alternator shall meet all current applicable NFPA 1901 Edition requirements for performance.

BATTERY SYSTEM

The battery system shall be a single system consisting of six-(6) Group 31, 12-volt DC, heavy-duty, high cycle automotive batteries. The battery bank shall have a group rating of 3750 cold cranking amperes

(CCA) and a reserve of 1,080 minutes at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

All battery wiring shall be "GXL" battery cable capable of handling 125% of the actual load. It shall be run through a heat resistant flexible nylon "HTZL" loom rated at a minimum of 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

All cable connections shall be machine crimped and soldered.

STAINLESS STEEL BATTERY BOXES

The chassis batteries shall be mounted in welded and bolted stainless steel battery box. The battery holddowns shall be made of structural, stainless steel angle. Painted carbon steel battery boxes shall not be acceptable.

STAINLESS STEEL BATTERY BOX COVERS

Each battery box shall include a stainless steel cover which protects the top of the batteries from road spray. Each cover shall include flush latches which shall keep the cover secure as well as a handle for convenience when opening.

BATTERY JUMPER STUDS

One (1) set of battery jumper studs, with plastic color-coded covers shall be mounted on the left front side of the battery box.

A tag shall be provided for positive/negative terminals.

BATTERY JUMPER STUD TEMINATION POIN - STEP WELL

The battery jumper studs shall terminate at the front step well area driver's side.

MASTER BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH

The chassis batteries shall be wired in parallel to a single 12-volt electrical system, controlled through a heavy-duty, Guest brand rotary type, master disconnect switch. The master disconnect switch shall be located within easy access of the driver upon entering or exiting the cab. All electrical circuits shall be disconnected when the switch is in the "OFF" position.

AIR COMPRESSOR

A Kussmaul (auto air) model 091-9B1, 120 v 60 HZ compressor shall be installed in the chassis. The compressor is activated by a pressure switch when chassis air brake system drops below 70 PSI. The system switches off when the pressure of the air brake system reaches 90 PSI. The compressor shall be permanently wired to the 120-volt electrical receptacle located on the chassis.

20 AMP SUPER AUTO-EJECT

There shall be provided one-(1) super auto-eject type receptacle model 091-55-20. A solenoid wired to the vehicle starter is energized when the engine is started. This instantaneously drives the plug from the receptacle. The receptacle shall be provided with a weatherproof cover. The cover shall be spring loaded to close, preventing water from entering when the shoreline is not connected. The super auto eject receptacle shall be mounted in a location specified by the department and is designed to accept a 120V

AC from a shoreline plug.

The UL maximum allowable amperage draw on receptacles is generally 80% of their listed rating, for example, the 20-amp receptacle should not carry more than 16-amp continuous load. When adding the different amperage draws of the components being installed on the chassis, be sure to figure in whether the components shall draw a continuous load or intermittent load.

The Air Eject cover shall be a Kussmaul 091-55YW, yellow in color.

SHORE POWER INLET PLATE

A shore-power "Inlet Plate" shall be permanently affixed at or near the power inlet.

TRANSMISSION

The chassis shall be equipped with an Allison 3000 EVS automatic transmission. It shall have 4th gear operating controls and programmed for Fire Apparatus vocation. An electronic oil level indicator shall be provided as well as a diagnostic reader port connection. The transmission shall be geared to provide oneto-one ratio in fourth gear for fire pump applications. This dedicated "lockup" circuit is provided for pump operation. The transmission fifth gear shall be an overdrive ratio, permitting the vehicle to reach its top speed at the governed engine speed.

The transmission shall be equipped with an automatic neutral feature. Applying the parking brake shall command the transmission to neutral, regardless of drive range requested on the shift selector which shall require re-selecting the drive range to shift out of neutral.

The transmission shall be equipped with dual PTO ports with engine speed capabilities. The transmission shall be cooled by the radiator-mounted heat exchanger. The transmission fluid shall meet Allison specification TES-289.

TRANSMISSION PUSH BUTTON SHIFTER

The transmission shall be controlled by an Allison push button shifter internally illuminated for night operation. The shifter shall be mounted on the dash to the right of the steering column. The transmission shall be capable of four-(4) speed operation with overdrive. When activated the "Mode" switch shall provide the five-(5) speed overdrive condition.

DRIVELINES

The chassis shall be equipped with Neapco 1710 series driveshaft with full round yokes and universal joints. The driveshaft tubing shall be a minimum of 4.00" diameter with .134" wall thickness. The drivelines shall be balanced at a minimum of 3000 RPM.

TEMPORARY JACKSHAFT

A temporary jackshaft driveline shall be installedto accommodate the mid-ship split shaft pump as specified.

FUEL TANK

The chassis shall be equipped with a 50-gallon rear mounted fuel tank. The tank shall be constructed of

12-gauge steel with stainless steel mounting straps and rubber isolators secured to the bottom flange of the chassis framerails. The tank shall be baffled to prevent sloshing, vented, and have a drain plug installed on the bottom. A 240-33 ohm fuel-sending unit shall be provided and broadcast across the SAE

J1939 data link.

The tank shall be certified to meet FMCSR 393.65 and 393.67.

FUEL LINES

The fuel lines shall be wire braid reinforced fuel grade hose. They shall have reusable fittings and be routed along the inside of the frame rails. Fuel lines shall be protected against chaffing by nonconductive, frame mounted standoff fasteners and, where necessary, with heavy-duty plastic zip loom.

FUEL FILTER

The Cummins engine shall be supplied with a fuel water separator with a bottom drain valve.

FUEL/WATER SEPARATOR

A Racor model B32001 fuel water separator shall be installed in place of the standard Cummins fuel filter. A water-sensing probe along with a dash-mounted warning light and audible alarm shall be supplied.

UREA STORAGE TANK

There shall be a 5-gallon urea tank located under the extended portion on the cab. A urea level gauge shall be provided in the cab on the main instrument panel.

There shall be a DEF fuel fill assembly mounted in the left crew cab extension. The fill assembly shall be equipped with a brushed stainless steel door and fuel fill cap with retention ring. The assembly shall be properly labeled "DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID ONLY".

EXHAUST SYSTEM

The apparatus shall contain a particulate filter and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) device downstream of the engine's turbo. This filter and SCR device are required to maintain US 2010 EPA

Emissions. This filter and SCR device replaces the conventional style filter. The location has been engineered, tested, and set to allow for proper regeneration. Therefore, this filter cannot be removed, altered, or relocated.

An indicator light panel for this system shall be located in the cab informing the driver of the systems status. At times a forced regeneration may be required, which would be indicated by a combination of illuminating and/or flashing lights depending on the engine model.

A momentary switch labeled "Regen" shall be located within reach of the driver's seated position. The regeneration switch initiates the forced regeneration. A momentary DPF inhibit switch prevents the vehicle from having the ability to regenerate. Once the inhibit feature has been activated the ignition switch must be cycled off/on to return the vehicle to normal regen. All vehicles equipped with pumping applications shall allow for passive regeneration whenever the system requires and the engine is at its proper parameters unless inhibited by the DPF inhibit switch. In no way shall this feature affect the RPM of the engine being controlled by the pump operator.

The engine exhaust system shall be horizontal in design using stainless steel tubing mounted under the frame rail right side extending forward of the rear wheels.

CUSTOM CAB

The cab shall be an engine forward, extended medium four-door, (flat roof) full tilt cab. The cab shall be an "Open Interior" roll cage design requiring no inner walls or vertical interior supports. The cabs seating capacity for emergency personnel shall be six.

All storage areas inside the cab shall fully comply with NFPA 1901 restraint requirements of 9G’s.

CRASH TEST

The cab shall exceed the strict and detailed requirements of the Economic Commission for Europe

Structural Standard, ECE-29R. The test shall consist of an impact load test and a vertical load test to the cab.

The cab shall have a frontal impact tests via pendulum, with an impact load in excess of 127% of the

ECE-29R Standard. The estimated speed of the 3736-lb (1698-kg) pendulum shall be a minimum of 18.2 mph. The cab doors shall be closed during the impact test but be able to open after impact. There shall be no passenger intrusions or any structural component failures. The cab shall meet or exceed all criteria of this portion of the test.

In conjunction with the frontal impact test, a vertical load test shall be implemented to the cab. The cab roof shall be loaded with a minimum of 65,979 lbs. (29.53 metric tons). There shall be no failure to the cab structure or mountings, any passenger compartment intrusion or degradation of occupant survival space, or any other structural failure. The cab shall meet or exceed all criteria of this portion of the test.

A complete photographic, video, data, and dimensional record of these tests shall be available and placed on record for customer evaluations.

CAB MATERIALS

The cab shall be constructed entirely of aluminum alloy extrusions and 3/16" (.188) thick, 5052-H32 alloy, marine grade aluminum sheets. The corner posts, door slam posts, roof rails and doorframes shall be made of custom extrusions designed specifically for this cab with slots for inserting the skin. The rear wall and roof shall be reinforced with a grid of rectangular extrusions, which are welded to the overall cab extrusion framework. The front corner caps shall consist of castings designed specifically for this cab with relief areas cast in place for attachment of roof skin and intersecting structural extrusions.

Overlapping formed corner caps are not acceptable.

DOUBLE WALL CAB FACE

The cab front shall be of double wall construction resulting in a sealed firewall. The inner and outer shall both be formed from 3/16" thick, 5052 H32 alloy aluminum with structural aluminum reinforcements.

This design provides for increased structural integrity, crew safety, and reduced road noise in the passenger area. The outer wall is used for mounting forward lighting, grill and windshield wipers. The inner portion shall be treated with a heavy black undercoating material for corrosion prevention.

SEALED ENGINE TUNNEL

The engine tunnel shall be a structural part of the passenger cab, constructed from welded 3/16” aluminum plate and reinforced with aluminum extrusions. The rear of the engine tunnel shall be no less than 57” inches from the rear wall of the cab, allowing maximum legroom for forward facing passenger.

After welding, the seams shall be completely sealed with silicone caulking.

Engine enclosures that are not an integral part of the cab structure are not acceptable.

The interior of the engine tunnel shall be insulated with 1” thick foil backed insulating foam, attached with stud and button method. A cross-section analysis of the insulation shall reveal a 1/8” thick barrier material for additional noise and heat insulation.

CAB FLOORS

Cab floors shall be constructed from an aluminum extruded frame and 3/16” thick aluminum plate. Floor mats and insulation are detailed later in this specification.

The forward cab floor shall be as large as possible for both the driver and officer. Floorboards shall extend in width from the side of the engine tunnel, all the way to the cab door inner panel. They shall extend forward from the seat riser to the inner portion of the double wall cab face. The officer shall have approximately 28” of foot room.

The entire rear floor of the cab, to reduce trip and fall hazards, shall be a single plane. In applications requiring the use of a top-mounted PTO, a raised area in the floor may be required.

For maximum crew comfort and eliminate leg fatigue during emergency responses, the floor beneath the rear facing jump seats shall be large enough for a seated firefighter to rest both feet side-by-side. Cab floor designs that are wide enough for only one foot shall not be accepted.

CAB CORROSION PROTECTION

S450 Demo Chassis

A corrosion preventative material shall be applied during cab construction. A ten-(10) year warranty against corrosion perforation shall be provided for the cab.

WHEEL WELL LINERS

Full wheel well liners shall be installed beneath the cab to protect the bottom of the cab from road splash.

The liners shall be constructed of aluminum and be full width.

The wheel well liners shall be attached with threaded fasteners and be easily removable for service.

FENDERETTES

Bright polished stainless steel fenderettes shall be installed at the wheel well openings. A rubber gasket shall be installed between the fenderette and cab to eliminate contact of dissimilar metals.

WINDSHIELD

The windshield shall have approximately 4100 square inches of unobstructed viewing area. It shall be a two-(2) piece design with tinted automotive safety glass, with a wraparound design. A .030-inch thick vinyl layer shall separate the laminated glass.

All other cab glass shall have standard automotive tint.

INTERMITTENT WINDSHIELD WIPERS

Two electric "Pantograph" style windshield wipers shall be installed on the front face of the cab. The motors shall operate through a 72-degree sweep and include 24-inch blades to give superior wiper coverage. A washer reservoir of not less than 70 ounces shall be mounted a latched door recessed in the officer's step.

A switch located on the turn signal control arm shall operate the intermittent wipers.

EXTERIOR GRAB HANDLES

Stainless steel handrails with a knurled, slip-resistant finish shall be positioned behind each cab door.

Grab rails shall be minimum 24” in length. Molded rubber gasket shall be mounted between the grab handles and the cab in order to prevent corrosion due to dissimilar metals being in contract.

EXTREME DUTY CAB INTERIOR

Cab floors shall be covered with a pebble grain rubber matting with barrier type insulation. Edges of the insulation shall be trimmed with extruded aluminum angle for a pleasing appearance.

An insulated covering shall be fitted over the engine tunnel. Made from the same material as the cab floor insulation, this covering shall insulate the cab from engine heat and noise. A Cast Products aluminum door on top of the engine tunnel shall provide access for fluid checks.

S450 Demo Chassis

The back side of the engine cover, as well as a 2” to 3” return on the top side and be of sufficient strength to allow for 9G resistant mounting of any optional hand lights, entry tools, or other fire rescue equipment specified by the customer.

The cab shall have a custom built, smooth aluminum plate dashboard, overhead console, glove box, instrumentation panel and switch panel. The front overhead shall include room for the three sun visors and the door open indicator light.

The front door posts shall be trimmed with styled aluminum covers that conceal any wiring, as well as including a mounting area for rubberized grab handles. The center windshield post shall be covered "S-

Coat" finish.

Prior to installing the headliner and rear wall panel, minimum R-7 insulation, shall be installed between the interlocking extrusions.

These covers serve to finish the interior, cover wiring harnesses and insulate the interior from sound and heat.

SUN VISORS

The cab shall be equipped with a minimum of three (3) sun visors. The visors shall be installed on the overhead panel and provide approximately 90 per cent coverage across the width of the cab. The visors shall be approximately 26 inches wide and six (6) inches tall.

GLOVE BOX

The glove box shall be an integral part of the welded aluminum dashboard assembly and located on the officer side of the cab. The storage area of the glove box shall bolt in place for easy service access. The door shall be drop down style and constructed from brushed stainless steel with a recessed latch. The area above the glove box shall be flat for a work surface or optional MDT mounting.

CAB STEPS

All cab steps shall be of a stationary, fixed design that use no moving parts and requires no periodic maintenance other than cleaning.

There shall be an open-grip, bright finish step at each cab door opening. The area under the step shall be enclosed to prevent road dirt from entering the cab. There shall be provisions made at the front of the step for easily flushing out any dirt accumulation.

At each door, opening there shall also be an intermediate cab step. Intermediate steps shall be full width of the doorstep area and constructed from embossed aluminum tread plate.

CAB STEP HEIGHTS

The distance from level ground to the first cab step shall be 19-21 inches (24” with Independent Front

Suspension), without using swing-down style or under-cab “stirrup” auxiliary steps.

The distance from first cab step to intermediate step shall be approximately 12.5 inches front and rear.

The distance from intermediate step to cab floor shall be approximately 9.5 inches in the front and 12 inches in the rear.

CAB DOORS

All cab doors shall be full length, designed to cover the step well area. Each cab door shall be flush type with a minimum opening of 85 degrees.

The front doors shall be approximately 40" inches wide by 78.5" inches tall. The doors shall have a twopiece window, one operational and one fixed. The combined viewing area shall be no less than 662 square inches.

The rear doors shall be approximately 34" inches wide by 78.5" inches tall. The doors shall have a twopiece window, one operational and one fixed. The combined viewing area shall be no less than 661 square inches. There crew area windows shall have automotive tint applied.

The doors shall include a bulb style rubber seal around the perimeter of each door frame ensuring a weather tight fit.

The cab entry doors shall be equipped with exterior pull handles, suitable for use while wearing firefighter gloves. The handles shall be made of aluminum with a chrome plated finish.

The interior exit door handles shall be flush paddle type, which are incorporated into the upper door panel.

All cab entry doors shall include locks which are keyed alike. The door locks shall be designed to prevent accidental lockout.

Dovetail catch assemblies shall be installed in the doorjamb. The dovetail catch shall be V-shaped providing a positive catch and release system.

DOOR HINGES - CONCEALED

Each cab door shall be attached to the cab with two concealed automotive style hinges with restraining strap.

CAB DOOR LOCKS - MANUAL

There shall be individual manual twist type door locks at each door handle. In accordance with FMVSS

206, all exterior door locks shall be keyed alike.

WINDOW REGULATORS

All cab door windows shall be electrically operated. The driver's door shall contain four-(4) switches to control the operation at each door. All remaining doors shall contain one-(1) heavy-duty switch to control the window operation at that door.

LEFT SIDE FIXED CAB WINDOW

A window of not less than 16-1/2" wide by 25-1/2" high shall be installed in the left sidewall of the cab between the front and rear door. The glass shall be tempered and retained with one-piece triple locking rubber lacing dark tint.

RIGHT SIDE FIXED CAB WINDOW

A window of not less than 16-1/2" wide by 25-1/2" high shall be installed in the right sidewall of the cab between the front and rear door. The glass shall be tempered and retained with one-piece triple locking rubber lacing dark tint.

CAB TILT LOCK

The cab shall be supported at four points. At the front, there shall be two center bonded bronze bushings.

At the rear, there shall be two hydraulic locking latches.

The cab shall tilt 45 degrees by means of a pair of hydraulic cylinders driven by the electric pump. The tilt system geometry shall be designed in such a way that the maximum hydraulic pressure in the system does not exceed one-half the pressure rating of the cylinders or pump when the cab is empty. This allows the Fire Department to leave some equipment in the cab when maintenance is required (although this equipment must be secured).

Once the cab is fully tilted, a safety latch shall automatically engage and act as a positive lock. The lock is released by a pull cable. The hydraulic cylinders shall be equipped with velocity fuses to prevent the cab from falling, should the hydraulic system fail.

The front of the cab pivots and rides on the center bonded bushings by means of lubricated pivot pins that retain the cab yoke in the bushings. The bushings allow limited movement of the cab, and isolate the cab from noise and vibration.

The rear mounts consist of a pair of hydraulic cab latches mounted on rubber cushioned mounting brackets. Latches release when the pressure in the tilt system exceeds 500 PSI.

Warning lights shall illuminate at the center warning cluster on the dash, and near the cab tilt control whenever the cab is not fully latched in the down position.

An ignition interlock system shall be installed for cab tilt operation. Cab tilt operation requires the master battery switch to be in the on position with the parking brake applied.

CAB TILT PUMP W/MANUAL BACKUP

An electric over hydraulic cab lifting pump shall be provided to tilt the cab for engine and transmission service. The pump shall be operated by a remotely wired control box with coiled cord, weather resistant plug, and receptacle. An interlock shall be provided preventing the cab from inadvertently rising until the transmission is placed in the neutral position and the parking brake is set.

Warning lights provided at the center warning cluster on the dash, and near the cab tilt control shall illuminate whenever the cab is not fully latched in the down position.

In the event of electrical failure, a hydraulic manual backup shall be provided to tilt the cab.

TWO TONE CAB PAINT FINISH

The custom cab shall be a two-tone finish painted color. The paint color shall be furnished by the customer. The break in the color shall be at the bottom of the chassis window, unless otherwise specified by the department.

All cab exterior components including doors and glass, shall be removed. The complete cab exterior shall be thoroughly sanded, solvent cleaned and finished with high luster polyurethane paint before mounting of body to assure full coverage of paint to all surfaces.

UPPER PAINT COLOR/CODE

The upper chassis paint color/code shall be white PPG FBCH 2185.

LOWER PAINT COLORCODE

The lower chassis paint color/code shall be red PPG FBCH 71096.

CAB PAINT BREAK LINE STRIPE

A 1/2" wide Spun Gold paint pin stripe with black shade shall be added to the cab, two tone paint scheme.

This stripe shall be applied at the break line.

FRONT GRILLE

The front grille assembly shall have a minimum of 430 square inches of open area. The center of the grille shall have an area for a custom logo. The center top portion of the grille shall be raised and will be personalized that reads SMEAL.

SIDE INTAKE GRILLES W/EMBER SEPARATOR

Bright stainless steel grilles shall be installed approximately 70" above ground level one-(1) each side cab between the front and rear cab doors. The grilles shall have a minimum open area of not less than 119 square inches serving as an air intake and warm air dispersant system.

An Ember Separator shall be installed between the stainless steel grill and the air filter system allowing fresh air to pass through to the engine while preventing particles of .039 inches (1.0 mm) or larger from entering the system in accordance with the latest version of NFPA easily accessible through the exterior stainless steel grille.

HEATED/REMOTE CAB MIRRORS

S450 Demo Chassis

Two side-mounted Velvac model 713760 rear view mirrors shall be installed with an 8" X 16" mirror head and a separate 6" x 6-1/2" parabolic mirror. The mirror head shall be heated and remotely adjustable by the driver. The mirrors shall be aerodynamically designed to reduce wind buffeting and resultant vibration. The housings shall be polished stainless steel.

The mirrors support tubes shall be stainless steel, with breakaway mounting brackets.

REAR CAB STEP WELL TRIM

The rear cab door stepping surfaces shall be trimmed with aluminum tread plate. There shall be tread plate covers that provide access to the chassis battery system.

TREAD PLATE BACK OF CAB

The entire back wall of the cab shall be covered with 1/8" (.125") thick aluminum tread plate. The tread plate shall be coated with a rust inhibitor and fastened to the cab with stainless steel fasteners. A bead of caulking shall be applied to the perimeter of the tread plate.

INTERIOR CAB FINISH – BLACK

The interior of the cab shall be painted with a black “S-Coat”. The cab metal finish shall be covered with a coat of adhesion promoting primer.

“S-Coat” is a 100% solids, state-of-the art, VOC-free, plural-component, pure polyuria elastomeric membrane. This seamless system exhibits extraordinary performance characteristics. F-Shield is based on amine-terminated polyether resins, amine chain extenders and MDI pre-polymers. This membrane achieves an extremely tough, flexible, chemical and abuse resistant finish. F-Shield shall be used in specified areas for maximum protection.

The headliner (front and rear) and rear wall (if applicable) shall be covered with heavy-duty black vinyl.

FLOOR MATS/ENGINE TUNNEL COVERING - BLACK

The floor mats and engine tunnel shall be covered with black pebble grain vinyl with 1/4" (.250") foam backing. The edges of the floor mats shall be trimmed with bright aluminum angle.

INTERIOR REAR WALL ALUMINUM PANAL

The entire interior rear wall of the cab shall be covered with 1/8" (.125") smooth aluminum plate coated with “S-Coat”.

INTERIOR CAB GRAB HANDLES

Two-(2) interior grab handles installed in the cab on the "A" posts, one (1) each side. The grab handles shall be constructed of rubberized steel.

Four-(4) interior grab handles installed in the cab on the upper door panel, one (1) each door. The grab handles shall be chrome dog bone style.

There shall be one-(1) interior grab handle installed on the inside of each rear cab door. The handles shall extend horizontally with width of the window just above the window sill. The grab handles shall be constructed of bright stainless steel.

UPPER DOOR PANELS

There shall be four-(4) interior upper front and rear door panels installed covered with “S-Coat” extending from the window down to the lower kick plate. The color of the panels shall match the interior of the cab unless otherwise specified.

REFLECTIVE DOOR STRIPING

There shall be 96 square inches of a single color reflective material installed on the inside lower panel of each cab door.

INSTRUMENTATION

For easy viewing, gauges shall be black faced with white lettering and adjustable intensity, red LED backlighting. In order to reduce replacement and maintenance costs, the gauges provided shall be separate from one another and not in a cluster or arrangement. The gauges shall meet SAE J-1939 protocol to eliminate redundant sending units. Gauges must be fully sealed to 6 psi. Gauges shall have an operating

temperature range of -40F to 185F. The gauge crystal shall be polycarbonate, anti-fog, and anti-scratch coated. The panels shall be divided into groups of instruments that make identification sensible and easy to view.

The ignition panel shall include the ignition switch, engine start, instrument lamp dimmer switch, transmission pushbutton shift pad and front air conditioning and/or heating switches and remote heated mirror controls (if applicable).

An anti-lock braking system (ABS) test switch and parking brake control valve shall be located to the right of the steering column.

SERVICE ACCESS

The driver's instrumentation area shall be made of textured black non-glare panels affixed to the aluminum dash. There shall be a single gauge panel, secured with a bottom hinge and four (4) quarterturn fasteners. Access to the gauge clusters shall be accomplished simply by releasing the latches and pulling the panel outward. Other gauge access designs are not acceptable.

S450 Demo Chassis

The chassis electrical panel shall be located in the center of the aluminum dash, between the switch panel and the windshield. There shall be a lift up cover, with two (2) recessed lift-and-turn latches for quick access to the panel. The underside of the panel shall have a pre-printed diagram that clearly depicts the function of each circuit breaker and relay. The vehicle load manager shall be located in this panel. The opening to the electrical shall measure approximately 19” wide near the switch panel and 37” wide toward the windshield.

Electronic diagnostic connections for the engine, transmission, and ABS brakes shall be located in the lower-left panel on the cab dash.

DRIVER’S INFORMATION DISPLAY

There will /shall be a 10.8" x 2.44" display panel on the driver’s gauge cluster that will illuminate various caution and warning indicator lamps. This display also contains a 340 x 90 monochrome LCD for display of specific and user selectable data. The display unit reads data from the J1939-11 powertrain communications network. Display will be capable of but not limited to the following features:

Auto Self-Test

Viewing the state of each digital or analog input to the unit

Viewing the state of each output

Allows users ability to set service reminders by distance or hours of operation

Allows users ability to set data screens in various formats i.e. bar graph / text

Viewable active and stored powertrain ECU fault data.

Diagnostics screen allows user to select and view a specific source such as engine / transmission

Display is selectable between English and metric readings.

Messages and Icons will pop up in display when a condition exists such as:

Transmission oil life, filter or other service needed as reported by the Allison Transmission ECU

Engine conditions: Low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, low coolant level, water in fuel, check / stop engine, regeneration needed, high exhaust temp

Indicator lights may also accompany pop up messages:

CHASSIS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The chassis shall be equipped with a Weldon V-Mux multiplexed electrical system. The multiplex system shall consist of all solid-state components contained inside sealed aluminum extrusions and/or weatherproof Deutsch enclosures referred to as nodes. Each extruded node shall consist of (24) output channels and (19) input channels. Each extruded node is to have a set of diagnostic LED indicators. The system shall also incorporate, as needed, miniature nodes. The mini nodes shall have (12) digital outputs and (5) inputs. Each mini node must have a set of diagnostic multiple switch signals to be available to the electronics system. All inputs and outputs shall be configured into a scalable electrical harness utilizing

Deutsch connectors. The nodes shall not have special mounting requirements.

The system, at a minimum, shall be capable of performing the following functions:

The multiplex system shall be field reprogrammed and re-configurable by an authorized service center.

This complete system shall eliminates the need for the following separate components or devices: load manager, load sequencer, warning lamp flasher, headlamp flasher, door open notification system, interlock modules, separate volt meter, ammeter and temperature monitor.

As programmed electrical system reports shall be generated by the multiplex system designer software and furnished in the apparatus manuals. A master circuit list of electrical circuits that the apparatus builder installs shall be furnished in the delivery manuals.

MAIN CENTER DASH

The main center dash area shall include three (3) removable panel’s located one (1) to the right of the driver position, one (1) in the center of the dash and one (1) to the left of the officer position. The center panel shall be within comfortable reach of both the driver and officer. The panel shall be constructed of

5052-H32 Marine Grade, 1/8 inch thick aluminum plate.

The left dash panel shall include the cab mirror heat switch, cab mirror remote control switch, the instrument lamp dimmer control shall be provided and the Vista display screen.

The center dash panel shall include the transmission shifter, ignition switch and starter switch. A rocker switch with a legend installed directly above shall be provided for any position without a switch and legend designated by a specific option. The non-specified switches shall be two-position, black switches with an indicator light. All switch legends shall have backlighting provided. The center portion shall be used for electronic siren mounting.

The right dash panel shall be blank.

VISTA IV COLOR DISPLAY – DRIVER’S SIDE

The chassis shall be equipped with a full color graphical display that offers many enhanced features for display, control, and diagnostics of the multiplex system. The Vista IV incorporates seven switches with custom legends and has a wide temperature operating range. The Vista IV shall control most all required switches including automatic climate control for front air conditioner equipped chassis. The climate control panel shall also include switching to enable or disable the rear under seat air conditioner / heater unit if so equipped.

VEHICLE DATA RECORDER

The chassis shall have a Weldon Vehicle Data Recorder (VDR) system installed. The system shall be designed to meet NFPA 1901. The following information shall be recorded:

Each portion of the data shall be recorded at the specified intervals and stored for the specified length of time to meet NFPA 1901 guidelines and shall be retrievable by connecting a laptop computer to the VDR system.

SEAT BELT WARNING SYSTEM

A Weldon seat belt warning system, integrated with the Vehicle Data Recorder system, shall be installed for each seat within the cab. The system shall provide visual warning indicator in the Vista display and control screens, and indicator light in the instrument panel, and an audible alarm.

The warning system shall activate when any seat is occupied with a minimum of 60 pounds, the corresponding seat belt remains unfastened, and the park brake is released. The warning system shall also activate when any seat is occupied, the corresponding seat belt was fastened in an incorrect sequence, and the park brake is released. Once activated, the visual indicators and audible alarm shall remain active until all occupied seats have the seat belts fastened.

STEERING COLUMN

The steering column shall be a Douglas Autotec tilt and telescope. A lever mounted on the side of the column shall control the tilt and telescope features. A Signal-Stat (self-canceling) turn signal switch shall be mounted to the column. The steering shaft from the column to the meter box shall have a rubber boot to cover the shaft slip and a second rubber boot to seal the passage hole in the floor.

The steering wheel shall be 18 inches in diameter.

The Signal-Stat turn signal switch shall include the following functions:

Left and right turn signals

High beam dimmer control

Hazard warning switch

Two speed with intermittent windshield wiper control

Windshield washer control

HEATING/AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

The climate control system shall use three-(3) heater-air conditioner units.

S450 Demo Chassis

The front circuits shall use two-(2) heater-air conditioning units, mounted under the dash on the driver's side and under the officer's side. These units are each rated at 14,700 BTU heating and 19,200 BTU cooling. The units shall blow up toward the windshield through adjustable vents in the dash. Additionally, there shall be two-(2) adjustable vents each side to direct air at the lower portion of the driver and officer seating areas. Two switches, including low/med/high and heat/off/ ac, shall control the front system.

A blend air switch shall be installed to operate both the front heating and cooling systems. This provides hot and dry air for defogging purposes.

The rear circuit shall use one large heater-air conditioner unit with a rating of 34,150 BTU cooling and

36,000 BTU heating. It shall be mounted under the forward facing rear seats. Ducting shall run up the rear wall to adjustable vents (minimum of six) running along the center of the ceiling toward the front of the cab. Two-(2) switches including high/med/low and heat/off/AC shall control the unit.

Both heaters shall be plumbed with a shut off valve at the engine.

The air conditioning system shall be powered through two (2) engine driven 9.5 cubic inch compressors.

Two (2) roof top condensers, each rated at 38,700 Btu, shall be provided.

The entire roof and back wall shall be heavily insulated with 1" foam to enhance the cooling system.

SEAT MATERIAL

The seats shall be covered with Durawear material.

SEAT COLOR

The cab seats shall be gray in color.

SEAT BACK LOGO

The seat backs shall include the "Smeal Fire Apparatus Co." logo. The logo shall be centered on the standard headrest of the seat back and on the left side of a split headrest.

DRIVER'S SEAT

The driver's seat shall be a Bostrom Model Sierra high-back with air ride suspension. The seat shall have

4-way adjustability by the driver in accordance with SAE J1517. The seat shall be equipped with an integrated 3-point seat belt with an automatic retractor. The belt shall be red in color to meet current

NFPA requirements.

OFFICER'S SEAT

The officer's seat shall be a Bostrom Tanker 450 SCBA ABTS (All Belts to Seats). Seat back shall include a spring-loaded flip-up headrest. The seat shall be equipped with an integrated 3-point shoulder harness with lap belt and an automatic retractor built into the seat assembly. The belt shall be red in color to meet current NFPA requirements.

There shall be a SecureAll auto lock SCBA holder provided with the seat. The SCBA holder shall have an integrated one-touch release handle located centered below the seat cushion. The SecureAll system meets

NFPA 1901 standards and requirements of EN 1846-2.

DRIVER'S SIDE REAR FACING CREW SEAT

POWER AND GROUND STUDS

The electrical distribution panel shall include two (2) power studs. The studs shall be size #10 and each of the power studs shall be circuit protected with a fuse of the specified amperage. One (1) power stud shall be capable of carrying up to a 40 amp battery direct load and one (1) power stud shall be capable of carrying up to a 20 amp ignition switched load. The two (2) power studs shall share one (1) #10 ground stud.

ELECTRONIC SIREN

Two sirens in one, the MAGNUMhas two separate modes of operation, each offering its own distinct tones. It incorporates the use of two isolated amplifiers in one box, each operating one 100 watt speaker, for a total of 200 watts of output. Perfect for dash or panel mounting with use of the telephone type connection made between the amp box and control head. LED speaker diagnostics allow quick troubleshooting. Rotary switch selectable operating modes are Wail, Yelp, Hands Free, Phaser, Manual,

Alert, and Radio. Push buttons operate Manual and Air Horn. Operating tones are Wail, Yelp, Air Horn,

Phaser, Manual, and Two-Tone. Positive or negative switching for AUX and Park Kill inputs. The

SS741MG MAGNUM is protected against speaker shorts with a self-resetting circuit and a high & low voltage shutdown feature. This unit also features jumpers for option selections, public address override, and separate volume controls for the radio repeat and public address functions. Includes an attached noise canceling PA microphone and is backlit for easy night time readability.

BACK-UP ALARM

There shall be one-(1) electronic back-up alarm installed at the rear of the apparatus. The alarm shall be wired to the transmissions output signal and is automatically activated when the transmission is shifted into reverse.

CAB DOME LIGHTS

Four-(4) combination clear/red LED dome lights with one-(1) piece bezels shall be installed in the cabs headliner. The push on / push off switches for the clear and red dome lights are integrally mounted in the dome lights lens.

The white LED lights shall be activated when any cab door is in the open position automatically switching off all red lights currently on and reactivated when the door is closed.

The light housing shall match the interior color.

DOOR AJAR LIGHT

A Whelen model TIR3 door ajar light shall be located on the cab's ceiling. This light shall be a selfcontained flashing light that activates when any of the apparatus doors are open. The lens color shall be red.

S450 Demo Chassis

An audible alarm shall be installed in conjunction with the door-ajar warning light system. The panel only operates when the ignition switch is in the “On” position and the parking brake released.

STEP WELL LIGHTS

Four (4) step well lights shall be supplied. The lights shall be white LEDs, one in each cab step well. All step well lights shall be illuminated when any door is opened.

CAB MAP LIGHT

One-(1) Gooseneck map light shall be installed on the right side vertical surface of the main dash structure operated by a rheostat mounted on the lights base.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE LIGHTS

Two-(2) white 4" incandescent round lights shall be mounted under the cab. The lights shall automatically activate when the cab is tilted.

STANDARD FRONT LIGHTING

The headlamps, turn signals, front warning, and intersection lights shall be located within chrome warning light modules.

HEADLIGHTS

Four-(4) halogen rectangular headlights shall be installed in the warning light modules, two-(2) each side.

The headlights shall be mounted in the lower positions of the module.

DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS W/ALTERNATING HEADLIGHT FLASHER

The apparatus shall be equipped with Daytime Running Lights. This feature shall control 80% of the low beam headlamp illumination. The Daytime Running lights shall operate only when the ignition switch is in the "On" position and the parking brake is released. The headlight circuitry shall override the Daytime

Running Lamp feature when the headlight switch is in the "On" position. The vehicle identification lamps shall not illuminate in the Daytime Running Lamp mode.

A solid state-alternating flasher shall be installed on the high beam side of the headlamps. A rocker switch located in the cab shall control the module. If high beam lights are required, activating the headlight dimmer switch shall automatically over-ride the flasher when the headlight switch is in the "On" position.

TURN SIGNALS

Whelen model 600 amber LED turn signal lamps shall be installed directly above the low beam headlights in the warning light modules.

CAB MARKER LIGHTS

S450 Demo Chassis

The sides of the cab shall include two (2) Whelen 40A02ZAR LED round side marker lights which shall mounted, one (1) each side centered on the sides of the headlight modules.

DOT LIGHTS

There shall be five-(5) LED marker lights installed on the cabs roof located as high as practical and spaced per DOT guidelines.

INBOARD LOWER FRONT WARNING LIGHTS

There shall be two-(2) Whelen model 60R02FRR red LED light heads installed inboard of the turn signal in the warning light modules. The lights shall be red with red lens.

SIDE WARNING LIGHTS

There shall be two-(2) Whelen model 400 series red LED light heads installed, one-(1) each side of the headlight modules, lower section (facing outward).

FRONT BUMPER WARNING LIGHTS

There shall be two-(2) Whelen model 60R02FRR red Super LED light heads installed one-(1) each side of the front bumper. The lights shall be red with red lens.

CAB GROUND LIGHTS

There shall be one-(1) 4" round clear waterproof light mounted under each cab door illuminating the area below providing a safe entrance and exit for cab occupants. All cab ground lights shall automatically activate when any cab door is opened and by a switch located on the dash.

CAB SCENE LIGHTS

There shall be a pair of Whelen Model 6SC0ENZR 8-32 degree scene lights provided, one-(1) each side of the cab. Each scene light shall have a linear designed Super LED light head with a two screw mounting assembly and chrome plated trim ring flange.

The lights shall be controlled by individual scene light switches located in the cab labeled LEFT SCENE and RIGHT SCENE.

CAB/CHASSIS PARTS & LABOR WARRANTY

The manufacturer shall provide a limited parts and labor warranty to the purchaser of the custom built cab and chassis for a period of twenty-four (24) months, or the first 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The warranty period shall commence on the date the vehicle is delivered to the end user.

CAB STRUCTURAL WARRANTY

S450 Demo Chassis

The cab structure shall be warranted for a period of ten (10) years or one hundred thousand (100,000) miles which ever may occur first. The warranty period shall commence on the date the vehicle is delivered to the end user.

CAB PAINT WARRANTY

The cab and chassis shall be covered by a limited manufacturer paint warranty which shall be in effect for ten (10) years from the first owner’s date of purchase or in service or the first 100,000 actual miles, whichever occurs first.The warranty period shall commence on the date the vehicle is delivered to the end user.

FRAME RAIL WARRANTY

The chassis frame and crossmembers shall be provided with a lifetime material and workmanship limited warranty to the original purchaser. The warranty shall cover the chassis frame and crossmembers as being free from defects in material and workmanship that would arise under normal use and service.

Proposals offering warranties for frames not including cross members shall not be considered.

MERITOR AXLE WARRANTY

FRONT AXLE

The front axle shall be warranted by Meritor for two (2) years with unlimited miles under the general service application.

REAR AXLE

The rear axle shall be warranted by Meritor for two (2) years with unlimited miles under the general service application.

ENGINE WARRANTY

The Cummins engine shall be warranted for a period of five (5) years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

TRANSMISSION WARRANTY

The Allison EVS series transmission shall be warranted for a period of five (5) years with unlimited mileage. Parts and labor shall be included in the warranty.

CHASSIS OPERATION MANUAL

There shall be two (2) digital copies of the chassis operation manual provided with the chassis. The digital data shall include a parts list specific to the chassis model.

ENGINE SERVICE MANUALS

S450 Demo Chassis

There shall be two (2) printed hard copy sets of Cummins engine service reference manuals which shall be provided with the chassis.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION OPERATION MANUALS

There shall be two (2) printed hard copy sets of the engine operation manual and two (2) printed hard copy sets of the transmission operation manual specific to the model ordered included with the chassis.

TRANSMISSION SERVICE MANUALS

There shall be two (2) printed hard copy sets of Allison EVS transmission service manuals included with the chassis.

CAB/CHASSIS AS BUILT WIRING DIAGRAMS

There will be a complete digital set of "AS BUILT" electrical schematics provided at the time of delivery.

These schematics will have each circuit properly numbered and in color.

The schematic will show each connector in the circuitry and the position in which each circuit enters, exits, or terminates. The schematic will be drawn in such a manner as to allow individual circuitry to be followed throughout the apparatus.

These schematics will not have the circuitry condensed into a single line or sets of lines. Multiple sheets will be acceptable so long as each of the harnesses is properly identified to the connecting sheet and harness. There will be a border around the paper(s), which contain alpha and numeric characters for indexing coordinate reference. There will be an indexing or part reference document for quick location of items shown on the schematics.
