Connecting the Sony HDR-­‐FX7 to Dragon Stop Motion 03/15/11
SETTING UP DRAGON 1. Open a new or existing project in Dragon. The camera should be OFF. Check to see that legacy Quicktime connectivity for video devices is enabled by selecting the Dragon Stop Motion menu, then Preferences. 2. Inside the Preferences menu navigate to the Advanced and make sure Legacy capture devices is checked on. If not, check it and restart Dragon. CONNECTING THE CAMERA 3. Turn on the camera. The camera may automatically connect to dragon. If the camera is now connected skip to step 5. 4. Check to make sure that capture setting in dragon match the standard HD size and frame rate on the camera. Adjust your video source to Blackmagic HD 1080i 59.94. To adjust your video source navigate to the menu at the top of the screen and select Capture>Video Source> Blackmagic HD 1080i 59.94. If needed hit command (apple key) + R to refresh the video source. 5. Make sure you are capturing at the highest quality possible. Select the Capture menu>Camera Preferences. The Camera Settings window will open. Under the Camera button make sure Compression is set to > Highest Quality. OPTIMIZING CAMERA SETTINGS 6. Set the camera to manual focus by pressing the focus button (figure A). The LCD monitor should display . Turn the focus ring to adjust the focus (figure D). 7. Set the AGC (Auto Gain Control Limit) to 0. Press the MENU button and use the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial to navigate to the CAMERA SET menu. Inside the CAMERA SET menu navigate down to AGC LIMIT and select 0dB. Make sure gain (dB) is set to automatic. Toggle the gain button (figure B) until a small A appears next to the gain setting on the LDC screen . 8. Set EXPOSURE/IRIS to IRIS. Using the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial navigate to EXPOSURE/IRIS and select it by pressing the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial. A new menu will open. Navigate to DIAL ASSIGN and select it. Yet another menu will appear. Navigate to and select IRIS. Exit the menu. Make sure the EXPOSURE/IRIS is set to manual. Toggle the EXPOSURE/IRIS button (figure H) until there is not an A next the F-­‐stop on the LCD screen .
