TECHXPO GUIDELINES  Event Date: Thursday, April 27, 2017 

Time: 1:30 – 6:00 pm Location: HPER Once judging is complete, a reception will be held for all participants. Who Can Participate?  Any student in any degree area who is involved in a research project (i.e., graduate, undergraduate, senior design) at Montana Tech or at the Highlands College is eligible to participate in Techxpo. Students must have their advisor’s approval before registering. Registration Deadline:  The deadline for students to register for Techxpo is March 2, 2017. Students must register online by visiting www.mtech.edu/techxpo and clicking on Techxpo Registration. Poster or Exhibit (Booth):  Students can register for a poster or an exhibit (booth).  Students who register for a booth will be required to provide the size of the booth needed to accommodate their project.  Students can request various items for their display, including a table, chairs, electricity, etc. A limited amount of AV equipment is available through Techxpo. Therefore, most departments will need to supply their students with any laptops, projectors, and screens. Judging:  Projects will be divided into degree area. Each degree area will be judged separately, and one first‐
place poster winner and one first‐place booth winner will be chosen from each discipline.  When registering, students need to pay careful attention to which degree area they list for their project. For example, if a student is enrolled in General Engineering but is pursuing an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering, they need to decide if they want to be judged in General or Mechanical. Whatever degree area is listed on the registration form is the area in which the student will be judged.  Only those students in attendance will be judged. Judging will take place from 1:45 – 4:30 pm. Students (or at least one representative per team) must be present during judging. Judging will be conducted by a panel of industry professionals. Techxpo Poster Printing:  Poster templates and/or instructions on creating your poster are available through Donna Conrad. Please contact Donna at x4262 or email her at dconrad@mtech.edu.  ALL posters must have grommets for hanging. Please ensure that your poster is also mounted on a science fair board or foam board.  All posters will be printed for free on campus providing that they have a white background (no posters with a colored background will be printed) and meet the size requirements of 36” x 48”.  Posters can be printed by contacting the following individuals: ‐ Donna Conrad (x4262) – for students in the School of Mines and Engineering. These posters need to be generated in Microsoft Publisher. ‐ Kay Eccleston (x4423) – for students in the College of Letters, Sciences & Professional Studies. These posters can be generated in any program but need to be delivered for print as a PDF file. ‐ John Garic (x3714) – for students at the Highlands College. These posters need to be generated in Microsoft Publisher.  Poster printing times must be scheduled in advance with the previously‐listed individuals. The last day to print a poster on either campus will be Thursday, April 20, 2017. If a student misses the printing deadline, they will need to have their poster printed at an off‐campus facility and incur the expense. Event Set‐up:  Set‐up for Techxpo will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 4:30 – 7:00 pm, ONLY! Pizza will be provided to all students during set‐up. No late or day‐of‐event set‐up will be allowed. Prizes:  The event will conclude with the award ceremony. Cash prizes will be given to both the first‐place poster winner and the first‐place booth (exhibit) winner in each degree area. The Best‐in‐Show award will also be a cash prize.
