increasing demand of water resources opposed to its growing
scarcity, it has become essential manage this precious resource in a more responsible
and rationalized way.
Automated Delivery Unit, pride
of our production, are a new irrigation technology with which
it is possible to pursue a more
sustainable management of water.
The DWS (Water Delivery Systems) system, based on the
use of Delivery Unit, saves every year about 25% of water consumption compared to traditional distribution systems.

DELIVERY WATER SYSTEM
The DWS “Delivery Water System” is an automated system for water supply from public irrigation
plants; it is composed of a hydraulic device coupled
with electronic components.
It is composed of:

The Delivery Water System is finalized to streamline the delivery and
the accounting of water supplied by
collective pubblic or private irrigation systems .
This system allows withdrawal of
water from public/private company
Delivery Units, totally independent
among themselves, equipped with
an electronic unit for each end user.

The Delivery Unit is the field hydraulic and electronic device for automatic, selective and controlled water
drawing and distribution from irrigation plant hydrants. The unit may
supply the quantity of water requested by the user and/or allotted to the
same by the management agency,
and it may be programmed by the
electronic card assigned to the user
for water drawing.
The delivery unit is installed directly
on the hydrant Tee.
This operation may be easily carried
out without need of skilled personnel.
1.1 Mechanical hydraulic component
The hydraulic component is constituted by one hydro-valve and one water
meter in a single body of cast iron GG
25, double-flanged UNI 2223, PN 16
and DN 50 – 80 - 100 . The data below are fusion-marked onto the component body:
• Trademark
• The nominal diameter DN.
• Nominal pressure PN16
• Body material.

Each hydro-valve is oventreated with epoxy paint in
order to obtain maximum
anti-rust protection on the
surfaces.
The following elements are housed
in line, within the hydro-valve body:
Volumetric meter with tangential,
magnetic-transmission, dry dial,
reading on six numbered rollers . The
meter is equipped with a dry-contact
pulse emitter for electronic reader.
The clock unit is equipped with a
pressure duct and may be extracted;
Membrane hydro-valve with stainless steel spring and NBR membrane;
Hydraulic control circuit with PN 40
black pipes, fast pressure couplings.
Motorized Ball Valve , three-way,
provided with manual control, low
power absorption and low operating
voltage. Operating pressure 16 bar.
Flow limiting device with interflange modulating ring located downstream of the hydrometer. The body
of the limiting device is in cast iron
treated with epoxy paint. The modulating ring, which works gradually
and progressively, is made of antiageing and wear-proof elastomer for
5, 10 and 20 L/sec flows. The limiting
device is equipped with a diffuser for
pressure recovery and anti-cavitation.
Delivery pipe fittings , made of hotgalvanised steel, with DN 100 lower
flange, PN 16, and DN 80/100 upper
fast semi-spherical coupling.
The system is protected by a shell/box
made of AISI 304 stainless steel with
a thickness of 12 tenths, solidly anchored by means of fixing screws that
cannot be reached from the outside.
The shell/box is equipped with a door
for easy and comfortable inspection
of the components within (manual
control, membrane, hydraulic control
circuit), of water meter an motorized
ball valve. The door is equipped with
a key lock and holes for the application of a seal and with a magnetic antiintrusion sensor.

1.2 Electronic
Component
The electronics part of the Delivery
Unit are made up of a programmable logic circuit based on CMOS logic
micro-controller and it is powered
by non rechargeable lithium battery.
The battery is guaranteed for an average life span of 10 years.
The electronics parts and the lithium
battery are housed in a solid, ABS
box with IP 65 protection level. Furthermore, for additional protection
of the electronic components against
atmospheric agents and possible
manhandling, the circuit is completely encapsulated with epoxy resin.
At the end of its life cycle, the battery
may be easily replaced by unscrewing the screws that fix the protection
cover.
The device will operate effectively
within a temperature range from –10
°C to + 70 °C.

1.3 Safety
Various levels of software safety
have been provided:

supply shut-off and the alarm event is

a Service Card or PC.

configuration levels of the various devices;

1.4 Data Storage
A non-volatile EEPROM memory
is used on electronics devices; this
memory allows to save permanently
until 5800 backlog lines containing
data, times, and information regarding everything that happens on the
Delivery Unit. The data saved on the
EEPROM also include the configuration data necessary for the correct
working of the device, and the operating parameters of each 10 User Cards
that each delivery unit can manage.
The system is equipped with a backup
memory. In case of unwanted changes of data saved on EEPROM memory locations, the system can reset the
initial values by restoring the backup
memory.
If the damage is irreversible, the operating data may still be recovered
from the damaged memory through
the backup memory.
Backup takes place automatically,
every day at 00.00 hours.
1.5 Data exchange
Data may be uploaded and downloaded from the Measurement unit in
three ways:
• By means of an USB interface device for connection to a PC.
• By means of the User Cards ad the
Technical Cards.
• By means of GPRS modem
Electrical coupling between Delivery
Unit and the several cards is guarantee by two sturdy banana plugs.
Via the PC interface or the
GPRS modem is possible
the uploading / downloading
of data within the Delivery
Units:
Acquisition and update of time and
date necessary for correct operation
of the group of delivery;
Acquisition and reset of the working
hours of the delivery Units;
Acquisition of battery voltage;
Acquisition and storage status of the
alarms;
Acquisition, programming and saving of shifts for water withdrawals for
each Delivery Units;
Acquisition and resetting of the
events history.
Resetting / disabling of one or of all
User Cards authorized to withdrawal
on a Delivery Unit.
Update of all working parameters
of each Delivery Unit;

2.1 Technical
characteristics
User card is the portable device that is
assigned to the final user for system
management.
The User Card is a programmable
logic device based on CMOS logic
micro-controller.
The user card is equipped with:
• A non-volatile EEPROM memory capable to storage until 8000 events: all
the historical data memory of Delivery
Unit is saved in the User Cards memory when the devices are connected;
• An alpha-numerical display;
• A membrane keypad with four control touch-keys, simple and easy to
use;
• It can managed until 4 different ID
code to couple with 4 different users
so to activate until 40 different Delivery Units.
User Cars is powered by a non rechargeable lithium battery.
The battery is guaranteed for an average life span of 10 years.
The electronics parts and the lithium
battery are housed in a solid, ABS box
with IP 65 protection level.
The electronics permit automatic
shutoff of the device, when it is disconnected from the Delivery Unit and
it doesn’t work, to avoid useless energy consumption.
At the end of its life cycle, the battery
may be easily replaced by unscrewing
the screws that fix the protection cover.
User Card are connected electrically
to the Delivery Unit with two sturdy
banana plugs.
The electronics parts and the lithium
battery are housed in a solid, ABS
box with IP 65 protection level.
The device will operate effectively

2.2 User Card configuration
User Card may be configurated by authorised operators using:
• A PC with OS Windows;
• The dedicated DWS.exe management software;
• The PC Interface that allows serial
data transmission between the PC
and the User Card.
User Cards are configurated with the
following data:
• User personal data;
• ID codes of the multiuser card to be
associated to the user (up to 4). Each
of the four ID codes is equivalent to an
independent User Card on which it is
possible to enable up to 10 Delivery
Unit, so with a single Multiuser Card is
possible enable up to 40 Delivery Unit.
• IDentification code of the Delivery Unit
for which the card is enabled to water
withdrawal. The User Card may be enabled for a maximum of 10 Delivery Units;
• Water availability in cubic meters
[m3] (basic availability) and in addition
a possible extra amount according to
water availability and pricing policy;
the water amount supplied at each
single water drawing are subtracted
from the total available volume. When
the basic and extra availability has finished the User Card is disabled;
• Maximum volume [m3] and maximum duration [minutes] for each
single irrigation event, both of which
may be personalised by the user with
keypad of User Card within the limits
set by the managing offices;
• Drawing shift and schedule, if the water is not to be supplied “on request”;
• Current date and time;
• Time out for absence of pulses from
water meter; the motorized ball valve
shuts off water supply if there is no
water flow signal;
• For each Delivery Unit enabled, the
parameters implemented may be individual and may differ from one unit
to another.
2.3 User Card Features
By means of the keypad on User Card,
the user may carry out the following
operations:
• Selecting the ID code of Multi-user
Card to be used
• Opening and closing of water flow.
The User Card may be removed from
the Delivery Unit once the water flow
has been activated. In this case, the
water flow stops automatically:
1. If the volume threshold or duration
time programmed by the user or set
by the system manager is reached;
2. If the assigned water supply is finished;
3. If the inspection door is opened;
4. Furthermore, the water flow may

be stopped manually by re-inserting
the user card into the delivery Unit
and pressing the closing key.
• Setting, within the limits pre-set by
the consortium, of water supply volumes/duration times relative to each
irrigation. Furthermore it is possible
set a delay for the begin of water withdrawal.
• Reading of the volume supplied, of
the remaining water availability and
of the water flow [Liter/second] during water withdrawal.
• Display of the water credit available
to the user.
• Display of the shifts.

3.1 Technical characteristics
The Technical Card is the portable
device assigned to the operator of
managing authority.
The Technical Card is enabled to
work on all Delivery Units and allows
maintenance operations and control
operations of Delivery Units.
Technical and constructive characteristics are same of User Card.

The PC Interface allows data exchange between the all the devices
of DWS system and the management
software.
The PC interface allows to update Delivery Units Firmware.
The PC Interface is a device based exclusively on modern discrete components, powered by PC USB port which
is used for exchanged data too.
Without the PC Interface is impossible access and modify the sensible data of Delivery Units, User and
Technical Cards:
• No physical connections that allow
access to field devices, PC or handterminal.
• Software guards and proprietary
data interchange protocol prevent access to not authorized person.

SOFTWARE
DWS management software is
based on Microsoft SQL Server
data management software. As a
result, DWS software have in a single central structure, the SERVER,
all data to manage ( customers database, cadastral data, database of
all devices, water consumption ..)
and gives the possibility to interchange data, through bidirectional
synchronization procedures, as request by other CLIENT users across
a network including the Internet.
Microsoft® SQL Server® database
software provides an ideal database platform for DWS management softare:
• Capacity to collect and store large
amounts of data importable from
other databases and data archives
compatible with SQL Server;
• Highest levels of data reliability
and availability;
• Processing data queries in near
real time;
• Integrated data safety: To be able
to access data from a database, a
user must pass through two stages
of authentication, one at the SQL
Server level and the other at the
database level. These two stages

names and User accounts respectively. A valid login or Windows administrator account is required to

5.1 Characteristics
DWS GPRS system
The remote control system powered with GPRS give the opportunity to receive configurations and
water consumption of individual
Delivery Unit on a central server
allowing to have always and easily
updated the server database.
The remote control of the Delivery
Unit is achieved by coupling its
electronic base part with a GPRS
radio module with independent
batteries.
The GPRS module is connected or
disconnected by electronic base
parts using a simple socket. In this
way it is always possible provide a
Delivery Unit of remote control and
vice versa.
The GPRS module is enclosed and
protected in the same box of the
electronic base part with IP65 protection degree.
GPRS Modem is powered by an independent non rechargeable lithium battery. The battery capacity
combined with working settings of
the GPRS module, guarantee under normal operating conditions
(data download/upload and reports
alarm) an estimated average battery life of 5 years.

SMS to a modem connected to Central Server.

Management of a virtually unlimited number of Delivery Units and
User Cards thanks to a 40 bit identifier code (up to 1012 equipment)ù
Device firmware updating using
the PC Interface: practically is possible modify or add new features
according to the user needs without replacing any hardware part.
DWS software is flexible and
functional in all its parts. It is entirely created from HydroSystems
and it is therefore easily adapted to
any specific user needs.
