General Safety Instructions
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
READ CAREFULLY AND KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
Read this manual thoroughly before first use, even if you are familiar with this
type of product. The safety precautions enclosed herein reduce the risk of fire,
electric shock and injury when correctly adhered to. Keep the manual in a safe
place for future reference, along with the completed warranty card, purchase
receipt and carton. If applicable, pass these instructions on to the next owner of
the appliance.
Always follow basic safety precautions and accident prevention measures when
using an electrical appliance, including the following:
Electrical safety and cord handling
• Voltage: Make sure your outlet voltage and circuit frequency correspond
to the voltage stated on the appliance rating label and your outlet socket is
properly earthed. If this is not the case, do not use the appliance.
• Connection: Insert the plug properly into a mains socket with an earthing
contact. Make sure the socket is within easy reach so the plug can easily be
removed if necessary. To avoid an electrical circuit overload do not use a high
wattage appliance on the same circuit with the appliance.
• Protect from moisture: To protect against electric shock, do not immerse
the cord, plug or the detachable temperature regulator in water or other
liquid. Do not expose the electrical connections to water. Do not touch the
plug or temperature regulator with wet or damp hands, or use the appliance
on a wet floor. Do not expose the appliance to high humidity or rain.
• Do not use near water: Do not use the appliance where it could fall into
water. Should it fall into water while it is plugged in, immediately turn off the
power at the outlet and remove the plug. Do not reach into the water to
retrieve it. Before reuse, make sure to have the appliance inspected by a
qualified technician.
• Power cord: The power supply cord should be run in such a way that there
will be no risk of anyone pulling it inadvertently or tripping over it. Do not kink
or damage the power cord. Do not let it hang over sharp edges or touch hot
surfaces. Do not carry or pull the appliance by the cord.
• Extension cord: We strongly recommend not to use this appliance with
an extension cord. If you must use an extension lead, make sure it is in
perfect condition and contains an earth wire with a minimum capacity of
10A. Arrange the extended cord so that unintentional touching or drawing is
impossible.

Getting Started
Before you start
• Unpack: This product has been packaged to protect it against transportation
damage. Unpack the appliance and keep the original packaging carton and
materials in a safe place. It will help prevent any damage if the product needs
to be transported in the future, and you can use it to store the appliance when
it is not in use. In the event the carton is to be disposed of, please recycle all
packaging materials where possible.
Plastic wrapping can be a suffocation hazard for babies and young children,
so ensure all packaging materials are out of their reach and disposed of safely.
• Inspect: Unwind the cord of the temperature regulator to its full length and
inspect it for damage. Do not use the appliance if any part has been damaged
or is not working properly. In case of damage, contact our after sales support
line for advice on examination, repair or return of the damaged product.
• Read: Make sure you have read and understood all instructions and warnings in
this manual. Refer to the Product Overview, opposite, to familiarise yourself with
the product and its parts (see page 10 for a detailed illustration of all parts).
• Wash and dry: To remove any dust from transport, wash the grill plate, drip
tray and grill hood, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Make sure all parts are
completely dry. This applies especially to the appliance socket.
CAUTION: Never immerse the temperature controller in water!
• Assemble: Detailed assembly illustrations follow on the next few pages.
• Set up: Place the Electric Barbeque on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface,
leaving enough space around the appliance for air circulation. Insert the
temperature regulator into the appliance socket and the plug into an
appropriate wall outlet.
• Heat: After assembly and before first use, heat the Electric Barbeque on the
maximum heat setting for about 3–5 minutes with the hood closed and without
any food on it to burn off any residues left from the manufacturing process.
This may produce some fumes or odour and can be disregarded safely. It is
entirely harmless. Leave the unit powered on for a few minutes until all odour
and/or smoke has dissipated. Ensure there is adequate ventilation.
• Condition: Before using the Electric Barbeque for the first time, we
recommend you condition the non-stick coated grill surface for long-term
protection. To do this, brush or spray a small amount of cooking oil onto the
heated plate with a paper towel and wipe off any excess. CAUTION: Hot!
• Ready! Your new Electric Barbeque is now ready for use. If you do not want to
grill food at this stage, turn the heat off, disconnect the temperature regulator
and let the appliance cool.

Tips for grilling
•Grilled meat will become more tender if you marinate it before cooking.
Marinades generally include some oil (to moisten), vinegar or wine (to
tenderise) and seasonings (to flavour).
•Always use tongs or some form of heat-resistant scoop to turn the grilled food
over. Using a fork to turn the food will dry it out and damage the non-stick
coating.
•Only turn meat and fish once during grilling. You do not need to turn it more
than once, and too much turning dries food out.
•Never cook meat for too long. Fast cooking cuts of beef, lamb, even pork are
more juicy and tender when they are still a little pink inside.
•If cooked food sticks to the grill plate, rub the plate with a piece of kitchen
paper soaked in oil from time to time.

Frequently Asked Questions
• Why is the temperature indicator lamp sometimes on and sometimes off
while I’m using the barbeque?
When the temperature of the grill plate drops below the set level, the
thermostat will switch on the heating element and the temperature indicator
lamp will come on. It will stay illuminated until the plate has reached the set
temperature again.
• Do the grill surfaces have to be oiled, and if so, what oil should I use?
The grill plate is non-stick coated to prevent food sticking to it. It is not
necessary to oil the plate for every use, as long as you have 'conditioned' the
plate before first use (see page 9). Steaks, chops and similar food then only
need to be brushed with a little oil before grilling.
• Can I use steel wool or a metal brush for cleaning the barbeque?
No. Do not use steel wool, any abrasive pads or detergents, or metal cleaning
utensils as these can damage the non-stick coating of the grill plate. Use a
plastic spatula to scrape off excess fat and food particles baked onto the grill
plate, then use a nylon scrubbing pad to remove stubborn stains.
• Do I have to close the metal hood when grilling meat?
No. You can barbeque food with the hood open. However, closing the hood
will enable convection cooking and accelerate the cooking time for roasts. And
when the barbeque is not being used, the closed hood will keep it clean and
protected.
• Can I use the barbeque indoors?
Yes. The grill can be used with or without the stand. However, when using it
on the benchtop, take particular care with the lid so the appliance does not tip
over.
• Do I have to disassemble the barbeque during storage?
No. When you are not going to use your barbeque for a long time, we
recommend covering it with a large plastic bag to protect it from dust and dirt.
Store it, with the temperature regulator disconnected, in a dry place, out of
children's reach. Make sure the grill is clean and dry before storing.

Cleaning the appliance
WARNING!
•Before cleaning, moving or storing the appliance, and when it is not in use,
always disconnect the temperature regulator.
•To avoid accidental burns, allow the grill plate to cool before cleaning.
•Never immerse the grill in water or other liquids for cleaning.
•Take the detachable temperature regulator (13) out of the appliance socket and
unplug it from the power supply.
•Drip tray: Allow the accumulated liquid in the drip tray (4) to cool before
removing the tray from under the grill. Wash and dry the drip tray after each use.
• Easy clean-up: The grill plate is non-stick coated for easy clean-up.
•Grill plate: Use a plastic (or other nonmetallic) spatula to scrape off any excess
fat and food particles left on the grill plate (3). Then use a warm, soapy sponge
to wipe the plate clean. Rinse the sponge and wipe again to remove any soapy
residue. To remove stubborn build-up, use a nylon or nonmetallic scrubbing pad.
CAUTION: Do not use steel wool pads, metal brushes or abrasive cleaners to
avoid damaging the non-stick coating.
•Base: Wipe the base of the appliance (5) with a damp cloth. Fat splashes can
be removed with a mild detergent.
Storage
If you are not going to use the appliance for a long time, we recommend covering
it with a large plastic bag to protect it from dust and dirt. Store it in a dry place,
out of children's reach. Make sure the grill is clean and dry before storing.
For compact storage of the Electric Barbeque in the original carton, disassemble
the appliance using the assembly instructions for guidance.

Recipes (Cont.)
Aussie Beef Burgers
Ingredients
500g lean beef mince
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp sweet paprika
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
¼ cup beer
Vegetable oil for frying
150g bacon rashers
1 small tin sliced beetroot
1 pineapple, peeled and thinly sliced
2 Spanish onions, finely sliced
Pinch of salt
1 loaf of freshly baked bread of your choice (or 4 burger buns)
2 ripe tomatoes
Shredded lettuce
100mL barbecue sauce
Method
•In a bowl, combine the beef mince, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt and
pepper. Mix well and add the beer until it is absorbed. Form the mixture into
burger patties and brush lightly with a little oil.
•Preheat the barbeque on heat setting 4 and lightly oil the grill plate.
•Place the burger patties on the heated grill plate and cook for about
10 minutes, turning halfway through the cooking time.
•While the patties are cooking, start grilling the bacon rashers, pineapple slices
and onion rings, turning repeatedly.
•Slice the tomatoes and cut the bread into thick slices.
•Remove the patties, pineapple, bacon and onions from the grill, and toast the
bread (buns) on the grill plate.
•Place a pattie on a toasted bread slice (bun), follow with bacon, onions,
pineapple, beetroot, tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Add a little barbecue
sauce and top with the other piece of toasted bread (bun).
