Frequently Asked Questions
What is Tea by the Sea? Tea by the Sea was inspired by the Getty Villa's authentically recreated first-century
Roman gardens — and by visitors' fond memories of the beloved Tea Room, which closed in 1997. For
$39 per person (other amenities extra, tax and service charge excluded), one can recreate that experience by being a
guest in our Founder’s Room and enjoying our special twist on a “Mediterranean Tea”. Following the tea, the guests
may join a docent led, culinary-inspired garden tour that begins at 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays.
How much does Tea by the Sea cost? Tea by the Sea costs $39.00 per person, plus sales tax and service charge.
What does the per person cost for Tea by the Sea include? The Tea by the Sea menu will vary by season and as
the Herb Garden at the Getty Villa changes, so will the menu. Menu items include tea, baked goods such as scones,
muffins and tea breads, salads, tea sandwiches, domestic cheeses with dried and fresh fruits, as well as desserts.
What does the per person cost for Tea by the Sea not include? The per-person cost does not include additional
beverages (i.e. assorted sodas, coffee, decaf coffee, wine, beer, juices, milk) nor does it include service charge or tax.
It also does not include parking, which is $15.00.
Please tell me more about the tour. The culinary-inspired garden tour begins at 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 2:30
p.m. on Saturdays. The tour was specially designed by our Getty Villa Education Department to highlight the wonderful
things grown at the Getty Villa Herb Garden and the different ways they may have been used in ancient cuisine and
everyday life.
