Foreword...
It seems hard to believe that just over 50 years ago (May 1964) the very first Monarch
water softener was sold. Times have changed considerably in these 50 years, 32 of which
have been in the food service industry, where we have gone from an East Anglian based
company, to arguably one of, if not the largest water treatment companies in the UK.
Monarch sold their very first scale prevention filter to Brasilia coffee systems and the Stills
company in 1982. In fact we are confident that we were the very first company in the UK to
offer bespoke filters systems to cover specific applications for the protection against both
bad tastes/odours and hard water scale.
Unique products, excellent range and exceptional service—the key ingredients…
Our fully trained team of service engineers ensure peace of mind for all our customers.
Monarch Water prides itself on its level of service throughout the hard water regions of
England. In fact we currently provide support to tens of thousands of sites including,
schools, retirement homes, restaurants, hospitals, blue chip companies as well as your
local café, hotel etc.
On-going protection is vital to maintain efficient equipment. We offer a nationwide after sales
service for water softeners, reverse osmosis units, as well as the tried and tested CFU’s.
We are the chosen supplier and service provider for some of the country’s leading pub and
restaurant chains.
Monarch staff is proficient with the ProNett system which is currently used on a number of
contracts we hold. ProNett is the chosen system for more and more leading organisations
and facility management companies. This allows central control on maintenance and new
installations, on a multi-site, multi-regional, property to property basis.
At any one time, key staff at Monarch can offer over 250 years’ experience at both service
and sales level, to provide efficient and knowledgeable support to their customers.
But at the end of the day, whilst service is vital to all aspects of the industry, the best service
is the need for none at all!
Monarch offers arguably the most reliable range of automatic softeners and reverse osmosis
units available.
This together with minimum warranties of 5 years parts and 1 years labour on all cabinet
based softeners, helps make us the UK’s leading softener and RO supplier.
Additional products like the revolutionary Scaleout systems, small enough for a coffee/
vending machine, but with models large enough for a hospital, helps cement our place as
not only the leading supplier, but the one with the most foresight too!

5 interesting facts about hard water…
A property using only 600 litres a day in a hard water area of only
300ppm will use water containing 70kg (154lb) of scale in a year.
Hard water costs the UK in excess of £1 Billion every year.
Hard water is responsible for over 70% of equipment failure in the food
service industry!
Approx. 60% of the UK suffers from the effects of hard water.
Hard water begins its life soft!

Water Solutions for Food Services and Restaurants
He is deep in
thought as he
has just asked
for a CFU
to protect
his combi
steam oven.
He has just told the owner that by installing a
Scaleout on the supply to the hot water boiler, it
would remove existing scale and stop new scale
forming, giving the kitchen a plentiful supply of
hot water!
This lady had a drink in the bar after
work and didn’t like the cloudy and
bad tasting ice, so recommended a
Never Scaling Resin Filter for crystal
clear ice and chlorine removal too.
Although he has only just joined the
company he knows that a POSIEDON
reverse osmosis unit would protect
the ware washing equipment and give
gleaming glasses every time!
She is very happy
with the CS10 on
the dishwasher.
The bar manageress has just told him about the
S517. They couldn’t believe it would protect the
coffee machine against scale for 2 years before it
needs changing!
The head of entertainment just told the head
chef that either a QTT or Mini Scaleout filter
on the vending machine next to the meeting
room, would stop scale and make the vends
taste better too.
Chef has read about the Monarch Advance and knows that it
removes all bad tastes and odours from the water so all their
cooking would then taste better than the restaurant next door!

del’acqua SP100
Point of use for vending, hot beverage,
coffee, tea, ice & drinks
mini Scaleout systems with auto shut off head
The SP100 mini Scaleout system is the perfect
solution to overcome hard water scale in any low
water use application up to 100 litres per day.
The SP100 is arguably the most effective filter
system available to prevent hard scale up to 600ppm.
It is important to understand that the SP100 is a
non‑dosing system!
The SP100 adds nothing to the water to prevent scale
neither does it take anything way. It retains all the
minerals but stops them coming together as scale!
One key mineral retained is magnesium, regarded as
a significant flavour carrier in the coffee industry to
ensure vends of the highest quality.
Over 5,000 sites throughout the UK currently enjoy a
scale free system, compliments of Scaleout!
With up to 12 months between cartridge change
(as determined by site conditions), the SP100 will
cover any application.

Never Scaling Resin Filters
The Monarch Never Scaling Resin Filters uses arguably the world’s most efficient and reliable media to effectively
combine scale reduction and pH stability in one compact disposable unit.
It is specifically aimed at hot drinks vending, coffee machines and ice applications. They offer scale prevention with pH
stability, while also significantly reducing chlorine and bad tastes, to give the very best water for all to enjoy.
The HC (high capacity) units use the QC123 head as currently used on the CFU’s. Whilst the slim line models use the
on/off valve connected to the side of the unit. This gives fast and efficient unit change for both the operator and the store,
as down time is lost time when it comes to keeping the customer happy!
Compare the cost of the Never Scaling Resin Filters and vend for vend, they give arguably the lowest cost of any
comparable system.
Combines limescale protection and pH stability for
corrosion control
Improves water quality, tastes and odours too
Contains silverised carbon for bacterial control—HC
Incorporates 0.5 micron carbon block for final
polishing of product water prior to use—slim lines
Can be used in series for high use sites
Low initial and low running costs
Minimal pressure loss by using internal high flow
distribution systems
Small footprint
Optimises coffee roasting quality
Retains magnesium a key flavour carrier
Ensures clear hard ice
Minimises machine down time and keeps machines
working at their maximum efficiency

For Catering Equipment
Protecting your
catering equipment
Quality food is nearly always determined by
use of clean, high quality water.
Food preparation methods, such as
steaming, rely upon the quality of the water
supplying the machine.
Using hard water, equipment such as Combi
Steam Ovens, Pasta Cookers, Boilers and
Bratt Pans, will suffer from a build-up of
lime scale which attacks elements, oven
chambers and sensors and will eventually
lead to failure, resulting in expensive
breakdowns and unwanted machine
downtime. With a machine descale costing
£100’s, a simple addition of a Monarch
CFU would remove the calcium that causes
limescale and improve the taste and
appearance of your food too!
For Beverage Equipment
Great tasting cuppas
A Monarch CFU will ensure you get the most from your coffee machine. Not only will the drinks taste fresher, but the
machine be protected from the harmful effects of calcium (lime-scale), hot drinks will taste fresher ensuring maximum
coffee flavour for the perfect cup.
A CFU will protect the equipment from calcium to help avoid serious malfunction of boilers, steam wands and dispense
heads etc.—thus saving from the unnecessary expense of machine maintenance and repair bills. All our (V) models
incorporate an internal blender to optimise the taste and quality of the drinks on offer.
Why should you choose a Calcium Filter Unit from Monarch Water?
Monarch is the UK’s leading manufacturer of water softeners and filters for both domestic and food service applications.
They have reached this position through a firm commitment to efficient reliable equipment, with the highest level of after
sales service. As part of their continuous improvement programme, they welcome all types of feedback from customers
to ensure they continue to provide the very best equipment and service available.

Did you know?
Every UK gallon has 4.546 litres, but a US gallon only has 3.785 litres.
1psi water pressure is generated by approx. 2' in height (feet head). Therefore a water tank 30' above
the ground, generates 15psi, and 15psi is approx. 1 bar in water pressure.
1 degree Clark (water hardness measurement) is approx. 14.3ppm (parts per million); and ppm and
mg/l (milligrams per litre) are the same measurement.
In every litre there is 1,000 millilitres (ml), which is the same as 0.22 UK gallons, which is actually
1.76 pints.
In every cubic metre of water there is 1,000 litres, and 1,000 litres is equal to 220 gallons.

How a water softener works
A water softener works by passing the incoming hard water through a sealed container called
a resin vessel, which contains literally thousands of little ion exchange resin beads.
These beads attract and retain any hardness in the water i.e. scale and scum, that causes so
much damage to your system.
When these beads become saturated with hardness, they need cleaning and regenerating for
continued use. This is done by rinsing them with a weak solution of brine (salt and water).
The brine together with the previously collected hardness is then automatically flushed down
the drain. This process takes place automatically as determined by the softener, with all that
has to be done is ensure the softener is kept full of tablet salt.
In conclusion therefore, salt does not soften the water. The resin cleans/softens the water
and when required the brine cleans the resin. During the cleaning of the resin, the previously
collected scale and scum is discharged automatically down the drain together with the brine.
At no time does the brine enter the water supply.

Duplex Softeners
Light industrial & commercial
Monarch duplex softeners have two softening vessels sharing the
same salt tank. These two vessels are controlled by their own control
valve each with its own built-in water meter. One vessel supplies soft
water whilst the other remains on standby. When the required amount
of soft water has been reached, this vessel begins an automatic
regeneration with soft water then supplied from the previous standby
unit. This role is then reversed when the next regeneration is due to
ensure a continuous supply of soft water
at all times.
With our duplex softeners using a wet brine system, the regenerations
can be more frequent ensuring an even greater output of soft water
than from a smaller softener, should it ever be required.
