HE Floor Control Unit
It is a regulation and distribution unit for low temperature heating and/or
cooling systems and mixed systems with two temperature levels (radiator / fan coils + radiant panels).
The mixing system with thermostatic head for fixed-point control (heating only), or with an electric servomotor for temperature control (heating
and/or cooling), reacts to any change in flow or heat emission and keeps
the temperature of the fluid of the radiant panel system constant.
The unit comes complete with an electronic circulator and must be combined with a metal box, supplied separately, for correct wall installation.
Finally, it should be completed with the installation of a thermostatic head
with a remote sensor (for fixed-point operation in heating mode only), or
an electric servomotor (floating, 3-points, or modulating 0-10 Vdc) combined with a temperature controller for heating and/or cooling.

Operation
The mixing system with fixed-point regulation and thermostatic control
head (for heating only) or with temperature control and electric servo-
motor (for heating and/or cooling) reacts to any change in flow or heat
emission and keeps the temperature of the fluid of the underfloor system
constant.

Using the mixing system, the temperature of the supply water of the
underfloor heating system (low temperature mixed water) is regulated
at a fixed point, by means of the application on the mixing valve of a
thermostatic head with a remote temperature sensor, or by means of a
temperature control unit, through the application on the mixing valve of
an electric servomotor.
In the case of fixed-point control, the temperature sensor with capillary
tubing 9 inserted in the valve box detects the temperature of the fluid
downstream of the circulator, keeping it at the value set on the knob of

the head (from 20 to 65 °C).
In the case of temperature control, the temperature probe inserted in the
valve box detects the temperature of the fluid upstream of the circulator,
keeping it constant at the value calculated by the temperature control unit,
by means of the activation of the electric servomotor.
By acting on the calibration and by-pass valve 7, it is possible to adjust
the by-pass flow of the underfloor heating system, thus ensuring that the
ΔT of the original design is reached.

The shut-off and balancing lockshield  allows to adjust the return
flow to the boiler, and therefore the input High Temperature flow to the
mixing unit.

If the input High Temperature flow is too high, such as to cause the oscillation of the mixing valve with peaks of high temperature in the mixed
circuit, you can intervene by partially closing the lockshield.
Use
The units equipped with high temperature connections, require a circulator
upstream (usually, that of the heat generator).
The low temperature units can operate with zero head, connected to an
open manifold (hydraulic separator) or to a storage tank (puffer).
Advantages
HE Floor Control Unit is the ideal solution for mixed systems (radiant panels + radiators/fancoils) both in centralized systems (in combination with
a metering module installed upstream); in this case, the benefits of the
centralized system combine perfectly with the comfort of a temperature
control system managed independently in each consumption.
The units, once installed in the metal boxes with a thickness of only
11 cm, only require the hydraulic connections to the heat generator and
the electrical connections, drastically reducing the time required and
possible installation errors.
Safe: each unit is tested under pressure and packed in a suitable cardboard box for transport on site.
Accurate: the operating principle of the mixing allows to obtain an accurate balancing of the low temperature system, observing the design data.
Convertible: fixed-point units can be transformed into temperature control units by replacing the thermostatic head with an electric servomotor.
Complete: all components, accessories and technical solutions adopted
contribute to create a system that facilitates the testing, regulation,
balancing and maintenance phases of the plant.

Efficient: the hydraulic principle adopted by modern boilers blends with
modern condensing boilers; the return fluid from the mixing unit to the
boiler corresponds to the return temperature of the underfloor system
(25-30 °C).
Reliable: the mixing system, unlike the injection system, ensures stable
operating conditions to the circulator, regardless of the thermal load
required by the system.
Warning
In accordance with UNI EN 1264-4, there must be a safety device (thermostat) that blocks the supply of the low temperature zone over certain
limits.
This function is integrated in the accessories of the Electrical box with
safety thermostat and 6T base unit.

Tip = Flow temperature of the underfloor system = 40°C
Tc = temperature of water from boiler = 70°C
ΔTip = temperature difference of original design of underfloor system
= 5°C
Tr = return temperature of underfloor heating system = Tip –ΔTip =
40 – 5 = 35°C
Qip = flow of underfloor heating system = (P[W] x 0.86) / (ΔTip) =
(6000 x 0.86) / 5 = 1032 l/h
Δp valv = pressure drop of regulation valve
From the pressure drop diagram of the mixing unit, a flow rate of 1032 l/h
corresponds to 6 different curves corresponding to the different settings
of the by-pass (ref.  introduction photo): the lower the opening of the
by-pass the lower the reaction times of the mixing valves with respect to
the temperature variations and the faster the required Flow temperature
is reached; on the other hand, the opening of the by-pass reduces the
drops increasing the flow of the system and reducing, at the same time,
the oscillations of the Flow temperature due to the opening-closing of the
various zones in which the heating system is divided.
By setting the by-pass to position 1, a flow rate of 1032 l/h corresponds
to a pressure drop Δp valv = 80 mbar (0.08 bar).
Assumed that Δp pav = pressure drop of underfloor heating system =
0.25 bar adjust the power of the Wilo Yonos PARA circulator so as to
ensure a flow rate of 1032 l/h (1.03 m3/h) and a head H = Δp valv + Δp
pav = 0.08 + 0.25 = 0.33 bar (≅ 3.3 m CA).
